I hope others feel the same way about exploring Twitter for some PLN support.

Q2 What is something new/different that you are going to do/try this year in your curriculum or the way you teach?
-
A1: I would Iike to give more attention to my strugglers who just need a little more. 1:1 lets me do this. Love my kids.
-
A2: This year I am looking to implement coding that goes beyond "hour of code".
-
My 7th graders respond marvelously to it, and in my son's school, kids in 1st grade helped design learning.
-
-
A2 Not school or class related... Working on myself. Working on not being concerned about reactions. Just keep moving.
-
-
-
-
While I cant hav 'em design learning,I can give them at least 10mins to share their own stuff/passions :)
-
-
-
A2: Looking to implement VR/AR blended with digital storytelling.
-
A2 I want to work on appreciating the NOW, not stuck in the past or worried
-
I think, since Ive been w/some of the Ss for 3 yrs,I want to see 'em off knowing they can handle more demanding Schl work
-
Elena in SF, CA jumping in a little late!
-
A2 I'm trying to design a way to have kids start out by looking at how brains and thus different ways of learning work.
-
YES!!! Are you doing anything with mindfulness in the classroom?
-
-
Exactly. The more student voice and choice you can legitimately give, the better off they are.
-
A2: try to be more resilient when others make it difficult. Choose happy. Choose joy. Choose to stand up even if alone.
-
Love this stuff!!! Are you doing anything with Universal Design for Learning?
-
THe difficulty vs prev. yrs tho,is that most of prev. Ss r now in other 5th grade classes,so hav to build relationships agn
-
A1: Working on helping parents, teacher, and students see the potential that every child possesses.
-
Sounds like I should check it out. Not something I've used so far.
-
THe difficulty vs prev. yrs tho,is that most prev.Ss now in other 5th grade classes,so hav to build relationships agn
-
HI DOROTHY! Yes!! I plan on doing special things with parents this yr. I'd love to do a book gp.
-
A2: This year I hope to extend our kindness & community practices out of the classroom: charity work, gardening...
-
It can happen. My school starts with 7th grade; I start completely from scratch each year.
-
Elena...is that a wedding pic I see?!?!?!
-
WOW! Talk about building new relationships...
-
Yeah, which is good, forced me to not get complacent, as well, other Ss get to see how Real we get now... lol
-
Yeah, had majority of same Ss for 3rd/4th grade, as well as vol. w/ same T.Shout out
-
Speaking of resilience--let's talk about taking care of the caretaker with Q3...
-
Q3: What is something new/different that you are going to do/try this year with respect to taking care of yourself?

-
-
Many congratulations are in order!!!
-
Yeah well standing up to a system is not always what you want to do. It is what I will do.
-
A3 more sleep, exercise, and outdoor appreciation
-
A3 Overcoming fears. Cancer never leaves my mind. I wonder if it will return or affect someone else I care about.
-
Sounds like a good plan to me!
-
Yes, it is a difficult thing to overcome. You are supported by your friends here at
-
A3 I'm hoping to see more of my @ though....THat would help tremendously
-
Here's something that I always wonder about...Q4
-
Q4:Tell us something special about how you utilize/set-up your classroom space?
-
Also since I forgot my Intro: Thomas Mision, PreService Elem Edu T in Minnesota
-
A3 Always focused on being a better more humble me. Practicing expressions of gratitude.
-
from Sara
Q4:Tell us something special about how you utilize/set-up your classroom space?
-
A3: more regular date nights, write for me more
-
-
a fellow survivor once told me that everything you want or need is on the other side of fear
-
Sounds wonderful and a good plan!!! (Welcome to Patricia!!)
-
A4 Beanbags in a circle to start (read-aloud, discussions, etc.); kids go more or else anywhere for "choice time."
-
Thank you for sharing this for all of us to remember.
-
Thx. Even before I joined I had my Many rode virtual shotgun. The support was amazing.
-
Love it! I had beanbag chairs in my house when I was growing up and LOVED them!!
-
A3: Intensify and clarify-
Kids First!
Let's Teach!
NO EXCUSES!
-
A4: since I am 1:1 my space is different. But I always have playdough on hand. Great ice breaker. Start gentle. Then work.
-
-
A4: We (WCPTSA) are offering grant $ to teacher w best idea for creating space/ room to foster personalized learning!
-
A4: Ask students themselves how the learning space could be set up to best support their learning.
-
Great idea. I'll be interested to see what people come up with.
-
I will try to keep that in mind. Thanks.
-
I TOTALLY think the Ss should be involved with how the space they are in should be utilized.
-
A4: For all the new trs listening, don't be afraid to mix styles: rows with groups, etc. U don't have to keep them the same!
-
A4 I once wrote about how I'd want my own space to be. Would be cozy.
-
It is so important to provide "voice & choice" for Ss.
-
Good advice--for veteran teachers too!! ;)
-
Being let's talk about challenges with the next few questions...
-
Q5: What might be one of your biggest challenges this year?
-
-
from Sara
Q5: What might be one of your biggest challenges this year?
-
A5 How much changes happen at the same time frame/how to deal with it all
-
A4 If I could influence classroom space, I would ask about garden area or houseplants.
-
A5.1 From transferring from Community College to a Uni,where I feel less control over my studies...
-
YES!! I do a lot of putting one foot in front of the other to keep going forward.
-
Wouldn't an empty room be best? Then, let it fill with ever evolving student experiential learning? https://t.co/sblMc8h0IS
-
-
A4: We (WCPTSA) are offering grant $ to teacher w best idea for creating space/ room to foster personalized learning!
-
-
A5 I definitely have intense S.A.D. most every winter. Getting to spring break w/out succumbing to the blues would be great!
-
A5 Being disciplined about my goals and intentions.
-
True, it took me years to learn to honor each child more than status quo or any recent book I read!
-
A5.2 To being assigned to a specific school for my TPrep program instead of choosing one for my self, w/predetrmined time
-
-
A5.3 Which means I'll be unable to volunteer to the fullest for last yr of Elem for many Ss in previous school
-
A5: One of my challenges will be getting my feed to feed!
-
Where are you that SAD strikes b4 break?
-
A5.4 Which also means that predetermined time = unable to work as I did previously.
-
A5.5 in general, so many variables just entered into my equation at the same time period. Dunno what will happen
-
I'm in New England - specifically Western Massachusetts.
-
Assumption and pre-conclusion are first forms exclusion and limitation. Perhaps unavoidable but still produce restriction.
-
Your PLN here at will be here for you!
-
A5 Facing all my challenges.
-
And then once you recognize your challenges...
-
Q6: What do you do to help/support yourself when faced with challenges?
-
You are more north than I. CDNs have SAD often because we are the great white north.
-
A5.6 Oh yeah, T I vol. w/will be having a baby same time as my field exp. starts, need to have Ss transition effectvly
-
When a space stays the same each day or even from period to period, learning opportunities are missed.
-
from Sara
Q6: What do you do to help/support yourself when faced with challenges?
-
Congratulations!!! Yes, the challenges will abound...
-
And I'm sad that I can't be there to help the Ss out or help LongCalSub out as much as I want, but thats part of Trusting Ss
-
A5: Reg stuff: Evaluation year, full class w/ wait list, new math curr., lead 5th gr Tchr this year...
-
-
Yes. How we see and use our space is so instrumental to our learning.
-
A6 Remind myself that I am really doing OK. Not failing. Just needing to improve.
-
A6: have faith and pray that the truth will be heard, that a fair and just outcome will occur.
-
A6 Exercise and sleep are two highly important factors in helping me stay on an even keel. Like most humans, right?!
-
A5: knowing what I don't know
-
I totally understand. It's like"the more you know the more you don't know."
-
A6 Just cry and collapse, is that a good answer? Lol
-
A6: To deal with new challenges I read, I reach out to other professionals & I make connections with parents right away!
-
A6: Departing early to read Tolkien to my 13 year old. Night all!
-
-
I hate February -the shortest month, also the darkest for light. I try to vacation then. Makes winter bearable.
-
Night, Dorothy!! Good to see you here at !
-
-
A6: Make time for exercise. Remind myself why I do what I do. Spend time with my family.
-
Ugh winters... Im in MN, freezes so much. SADdens me. Get it? Lol
-
Actually, depending on how we go about it, that can definitely help. Especially the crying part.
-
All good things to do and remember!!
-
A5: Being mindless - living neither in the past or the future. Being in the Now and Here.
-
A6: depending on the challenge...research, me time, talk it out, just breathe and recalibrate
-
-
-
That surely helps. We visit my dad/stepmom in Sarasota, Florida every March, so there's that.
-
A6 Also, sing the hell out of There's a Million Things I haven't Done! Just You Wait!
-
Nothing wrong with crying. I think It's a good release. It sometimes takes more energy NOT to cry.
-
True, builds up within, draining to keep it in
-
A6 The garden almost always reduces stress.
-
A5: Developing the capacity to enjoy less.
-
-
Enjoy. don't forget to read with expression. 😜
-
A6: think it to the ground, commit to a plan and move forward
-
It always brings on a migraine when I work too hard to keep it in.
-
Goodness - singing, crying, collapsing. You're taking me back to my student teaching!
-
Hey, Brian! Good to see you!
-
Q7: What will you do this year to help support your colleagues?
-
As an introvert w/ low self-confidence, it hits me really hard. Lol. Glad to hear ppl did similar early in career tho
-
from Sara
Q7: What will you do this year to help support your colleagues?
-
Me too! The harder I work in the garden, the better I feel! Tired, but less stressed, absolutely.
-
-
We are all in this together!
-
There's comfort in knowing you're not the only one. Speaking as an introvert w/low self-confidence! ;-)
-
I can see a edgarden chat appearing with the two of you!!
-
Something about sitting quietly in the garden that is very comforting. Soothing. Even weeding has a calming effect.
-
A7 Get to know my new HostT, to show how willing I'll jump in, get involved,by showing the results of 4 yrs of Volunteering!
-
A7: determine if they need an ear, or advice and respond accordingly
-
You will definitely have to keep us posted as to how things roll out this year!
-
A7 Start with being present, listening carefully and attentively and uncritically, asking questions and checking in...
-
A7 My colleague, or my husband in this case, needs support in being connected to community and academe.
-
-
That "uncritically" part is oh so impt.
-
A7: Facilitate collaboration among area edtech leaders using technology to make connections across the county. Virtual PLCs.
-
Q8: What will you do tomorrow as a result of tonight
-
A7 I intend to continue editing his writing and trying to get engagements for him to promote P2P democracy
-
A7: stand up for the voice that needs to be heard but is to able to be heard alone.
-
It surely is. I try to always keep primary focus on kids, with focus on colleague a very very close second.
-
A7: As an admin, I give them the tools and resources they need to be successful then stay back unless they need me.
-
Another great conversation and I am always so grateful to all who participate on
-
Esp. since I have some Criticisms abt my TPrep I'm in,but havent started it yet,so pending. lol
