The Breakfast Club – #BFC530 – is a 15 minute, 1 question Twitter chat every weekday. We chat in 4 timezones Mon-Fri – 5:30am Eastern, Central, Mountain, and Pacific Times. The mission of BFC is to empower participants to make a difference in education by engaging in consistent reflective practice in a supportive community that inspires and challenges one another.
When I first got on twitter I did a lot of EDU chats. #bfc530 is the only one I stuck with because we seem to be committed to each others growth. That's why im here. to get and give support.
The #BFC530 school would have collaboration at the core of everything. Students would engage in cooperative, team-based PBL. Teachers would have adequate time to observe each other and plan integrated learning activities together.
I definitely would want to have empathy in there. And I would want the school to respect the child in that fitting the child to the schedule and not the schedule to the child leads to problems. #bfc530
Core values of a school ... what is in the best interest of the students. It is a simple thought but if every decision was made by asking”how does this better the kid” school would be so much better. #bfc530
We were working on our personal ‘sentences’ in class last night - what we’d like people to say about us - I think it fits mine perfectly with today’s question - mine was, “She brings joy, self-belief, and independence.” I think what’s what we’re about here too #BFC530
This is the root of so many problems in MS. The schedule runs all the programming. I’d like to see a MS where this truly is not the case but I won’t hold my breath. #bfc530

This is true for us. We share spaces with our MS and the day and spaces for a 7 year old should definitely be different from those of a 14 year old! #bfc530

Like most thing Bridget, it really matters who the players are. I was just commenting on what it feels like from my point of view. My kids Ts might feel same, but it's doesn't seem that way to me...And it's their bad for not better communicating.

I love our teams - parents would have no idea how much we talk about every kid as we go through our various discussions. We aren’t perfect, but we’re pretty good at noticing issues and capturing concerns. Sure, some might fly under the radar, but there’s 4 of us, 120 of them.
And my biggest issue is that the kids are stuck on the teams for three years. My daughter has no chance of being with the friends she had since kindergarten for three years! And in middle school when you need your friends the most...

Middle schools are sometimes the least innovative places. We tend use the wrong tools for the jobs that need doing due to resources, lack of vision, etc. #bfc530

Definitely early to rise. I heard somewhere that the majority of successful CEOs go to bed early and wake up really early. I wake up early, I need to get down the going to bed part. #bfc530
Make a difference in a students life everyday. We all have power in our actions. Sometimes it’s the smallest positive comment or action that stays with a student for a lifetime. #bfc530
In middle schools it seems we are so eager to et the kids to "grow up" and in that process we kill the love of learning. ... actually I see it happening at a younger and younger age. SAD #BFC530
