Hi #xplap Adam from SC. US History. Favorite Reality TV? I guess I'm a sucker for cooking shows, love @altonbrown and Cut Throat Kitchen was pretty fun.
A1: I like using a sunset timer in some of my challenges... fun way to keep the students guessing when an activity is over... Just google time lapse photography of sunset. Find one that matches your length needed. #XPLAP
A1: I think time constraints can really elevate / motivate students. However, I have found some students have a tough time handling the pressure. #xplap
My most favorite time restraint is time lapse sunset.... so many possibilities and fun to be had with it (totally stole the idea from @mrmatera )#xplap

a1) hmm, I have some activities where they have to build something for a specific task. They have materials that I pick that they don't know about ahead of time. Many lots of characters these days... #xplap
A1: LEGO builds - make your best representation with "basket" items and "pantry" of extra pieces. Players eliminated in round by round challenge. Other Ts, students, or guest judges in with criteria to vote on. #xplap
A1: If Chopped mystery baskets contain the challenge items (right?), I️ like the ed benefit of asking S to be innovative within a figurative (and quite literal 😂) box #XPLAP
A1: Time restraints in games are discouraging IMO. Mystery items in class? Maybe have Ss randomly select 2 terms and try using them in a sentence? any sci Ts here to help? #xplap
A1: I️ would use the items in the basket as a foreshadowing exercise. For example, for To Kill A Mockingbird, you could put in a picture of a dog, a tree, etc. Ss can discuss how those elements might be relevant to plot. Would peak interest #xplap
A1) Not sure who to credit with this idea, but I like the die roll challenge mentioned in the #xplap book. Students in the guild all roll a die and have to describe an idea or concept in that many words.
Getting used to pressure can be tough for Ss. I have found that "training" activities to get ready for and build skills for the big event can help Ss endure better and more resiliently. #XPLAP

sure thing. I don't see everything cause people just reply to the pic and not use the #xplapcamp hashtag. Maybe RT some good A's and remind ppl to comment using it? #xplap
A1 made some group members do the wheelbarrow while others worked on time challenge just to eat up more of the groups time. Students loved the off the wall pressure that was applied to the group. #xplap

a2) you get an extra day to complete your work, but that means your teammates have to be done one day earlier? seems lilke a great way to get Ss mad at each other though. #xplap
a2) I wanted to make a flipped mastery class for my math I used to teach. Ss could work at their own pace to compete the work. Stronger ones could learn more. #xplap

Instead of a leaderboard I use a ranking system similar to a karate belt system. Ss have a content quiz and performance task to "rank up" #xplaphttps://t.co/FeLAAZC8wj
A2 Temptation - putting out some marshmallows and a mystery box, right before lunch. Do they go for the food or the mystery? For their team or selfish #xplap
As a science teacher, I love to have the Ls make models "Chopped" style. Time limits and a secret mystery ingredient that must play an important role in their model. #XPLAP
I️ have heard too of creative writing tasks that ask Ss to look through this character’s trash bag or locker and create a character from the clues there #XPLAP

It was a surprise photo shoot... Came out so nice I thought I'd gove it a try. Can't see it but the jacket has patches... So its bowtie adjacent 😉 #xplap
a3) Scientist helper for various teams. maybe an item to ask Einstein, or Galileo. Maybe a video link if they compete some task (ohhh, so many costume ideas!!) #xplap
But the monkey's paw was guaranteed a bad ending, the user just had to try and foresee how bad it might be. Maybe that would be the fun of it too. They'd be trying to figure out what the "curse" might be. #xplap
A3: for one of my side quests this week my Ls could teach a concept they learned to someone that isn't in our school. Loved watching them teach parents, siblings, and pets. #XPLAP
A3: We have Mechanical Engineers who are Ss who can go around an coach others on their work. ME’s get XP for taking the time to help others & they got to wear a super fun lanyard! #XPLAP
Again I️ love this for engagement but also because of what it asks of the S. Today’s workplace and society asks us to be innovative within confines & to be flexible/responsive to change. Why not practice first in a game? #XPLAP
A3: I have a lumos spell card that allows the user to have me illuminate their way on a challenge they're struggling with. Can only be used 3 times before being exhausted. #xplap
A3: Great question! I have four Ss that have mastered this Multi-Flow app in Math. I thought about putting each of them on a tribe in my Survivor game. They could serve as coaches to help their teammates level up. #xplap
A3: what if a student with a certain badge could be a coach. They would select an adventure party to coach for an assessment… Earn more rewards the high the group total is… Maybe?!?! #XPLAP
A3 to have a mentor pick your project, your skill set, based on your presentation sounds like a great way to "pitch" your ideas #xplap Thanks @UtahFilmCenter Suzi M.
I know how you like to try to include former Ss. Could you have a badge or item that allowed them to have a guest coach, someone from a previous class? Scheduling would have to work out, but maybe even through Google Hangout or something. #xplap
a4) I have a hidden spaceman that students can look for each week. Also could hide easter eggs in the game somehow(either online or in real life). #xplap
A4: In my Survivor game, I've added post-it clues to hidden immunity idols on the back of a couple of random worksheets in a pile. I love watching the students get excited when they realize a clue was stuck to their worksheet! #xplap
A4: I️ did this with Lord of the Flies. Each class had a different colored pig hidden around the school. If the student found the pic, they had access to a video that would help them win immunity in the next vote. #XPLAP
My students are not into the online part as much as I would have hoped... so I want to figure out how to hide things physically in my room...but I don't know how to slowly "leak" the info? #XPLAP
In my Survivor Math game, immunity idols mean they won't be voted out that week. They aren't out for good or anything - they just won't level up (gain 100 points) that week. Most points = Survivor Champion. #xplap

I put cards around the school with the Logo from my game and a QR code telling Ss what to do. I was shocked by the number of Ss who brought it to me without scanning the code. #XPLAP#eggfail

A5: house points (instead of XP) in HP themed classroom. Ss earn house points along the way, and they're super excited to pull potentially out their house in the lead. #xplap
You could have some sort of coded message that can only be deciphered by learning the magic spell through a side quest or challenge. Or they have to earn some sort of auror lens or something. #xplap
I️ traveled to KC attend a spoken word poetry event, made some connections, and discussed having them share brief snippets of instruction/advice directly to our Ss referencing the theme/game directly #XPLAP
could straight up steal the deal or no deal idea. pick a box, some have good things in them (no test) some have bad things (extra homework!!). could get a compromise from the banker everyonce in a while. #xplap
What a fun idea. Or what if the Ss used the chatter pix to say what they think the character would say in a given situation. I am seeing a link of the game with the content! #XPLAP
My Digital game Mystery Box could help with this in your classroom. Check it out… Super flexible and with some cool features too. https://t.co/48wLL7C5rS#XPLAP
This new character believed in different Gods than that accepted in the middle ages. She tests the guilds with a dice roll when she is introduced. #XPLAP

A6 I now have students move on a map. Each location brings benefits to their house… Really have to pull together to decide where to go… Soooo much player choice and interactions. #XPLAP
My instructional aide was reading the minigames in your #xplap book today and found the Mystery Box idea. She immediately went to the office to get envelopes and is setting this up for my Colonization game.
A6: Some of my review games that use a number grid to choose questions are revealed to be worth extra or negative points. Not exactly control, but fun! #xplap
I've wanted to incorporate a travel by map element into my game where houses would literally use string and tacks to chart their travel. I guess this is the kick in the butt to figure out the logistics and do it. #xplap
I saw your vlog where you explained the setup. Now we need to see a sequel where you show how the Ss use it and the different benefits they get. #XPLAP
a7) I think I might get fired if I had the Ss taste the chemicals in my room. But they had to draw from a bucket for their element to create a superhero based on. Also for a weather prediction they have to draw a capital city. #xplap
A7: You could have one student trying to complete a task, they are feed information from two different people, one on their team, one not… They must reason out the clues to complete the task correctly. Look at what is written and do what makes sense. #XPLAP

It's called Colonial Crusaders. The goal for Ss is to claim the most 13 colonies among the five teams. I have two sets of game pieces (strategy and flags) that Ss tape together to help with challenges. Ss work together to earn game pieces and other advantages in the game. #xplap
