A1: I survey my students at the beginning of the year to find out who does not have internet access. I only have 4 this year who say they don’t even though I teach at a school that is 100% free lunch. #4thchat#digcit
A1: Most of my students do not have access to digital content at home. Some have access via tablets or phones, but others don't have wifi even with those devices. We provide opportunities for at home blended learning but not requirements. #4thChat
Interesting quote from this site on the first element: Digital Access: "Digital exclusion makes it difficult to grow as a society increasingly using these tools." #4thchat We are certainly using these tools like never before!
Q2: The second element of #digcit is digital commerce. Do you teach any lessons about buying and selling online to your Ss? Please share. #4thchat#digcit
A2: I do not usually discuss digital commerce with my 4th graders but would be interested to see what others do. It might be interesting with SS economics lessons. #4thChat
A2: I don’t teach any specific lessons about this element of #digcit, but we do talk about it. Students have also seen me buy a book on Amazon that we used in class. #4thchat#digcit
#4thChat I did have a student who would type stories in Google Docs all summer and share them with me via email. It was pretty special that she thought of me! <3
It becomes a dance...it's hard if they don't have access and even if they do sometimes they can't get to the assignment for one reason or another... #4thchat
A2: We definitely have a serious chat about bullying others and that once you submit something online it's out there FOREVER! (even if you think it's deleted) #4thchat
A2: I don't think I ever used to teach about buying or selling on line. It might have come up in randome conversations. I think now more than ever, it would be appropriate - who hasn't heard of Amazon?? I've even heard students say - I got that on Amazon. #4thchat
Tie that into a little Financial Literacy and you've got yourself a nice unit! #4thchat I think it's certainly reasonable to explore it! May put this on my To Do list for Teachers.
A3: From the first day of school my students use @Edmodo, which they think is Facebook for kids. We do lots of lessons about how to properly chat and respond on it. #4thchat#digcit
Haven't heard of AVID... New Science Curriculum - do you have a new next or is it based on some other? #4thchat Just curious - love to hear how other districts/states work.
A3: We use Google Classroom and create Google Sites to communicate with each other before letting my SS tweet about their day and learning on our class twitter page, @EJE4th#4thChat

A3: Very similar - this is a topic of conversation that happens all year long, starting at the beginning of school. (Now I get to help other teachers do this with their classes!). Important for students to properly comment/respond online in @edmodo or Google Classroom. #4thchat

That's a nice feature - will have to check Google Classroom. I think it's an all or nothing type deal for that. Either they all can comment or none. #4thchat
Yes - doesn't have to be all big, bad scary....but about respect and general conduct. Good reminder about the opportunities as well (although I bet they could rattle off many!). #4thchat
Using tools such as @Seesaw we have provided the opportunity for 2 way communication on social media. This year thinking about having Parent evening. Important to think about how best to do this with community/parents. #4thchat

A4: Will be sharing this with teachers: From @CommonSense Turn Students into Fact Finding Web Detectives: https://t.co/dDjiib4Udz#4thchat (I'm going to say that some things that come my way - make me really have to double check.
A6 #4thchat I feel strongly about copyright my husband is a photographer. We discuss this also w/blogs. What pictures can you use and why? Who does it hurt? Well, me and my family actually!!
I'm here as a parent (not a teacher). But agreed -- we're in it together! I think it'd be cool to recruit a few enthusiastic parents -- every school has a few of them -- to help promote what the school posts and to share school stuff themselves using a mutual hashtag. #4thChat
A6: This is such a tricky topic and complicated. However, we need to start early teaching Ss about authenticity & giving credit where credit is due! #4thchat I have used Common Sense Media lessons for these topics too!
A8: Our students are online about 2 hours everyday at school. I know over the last few years I have added more online time in my classroom to help differentiate lessons and provide extra help for struggling students. #4thchat#digcit
Thank you for joining in tonight! You know I think we could do a better job at promoting the 2 way like this. Many teachers share via Twitter/FB and parents hit the like. Teaching about this makes real sense! Thanks for sharing your ideas. #4thchat
A9: Our school district uses @clever for our SSO. We have discussions about the importance of protecting your password, not saving your signing info on a shared computer etc. #4thchat#digcit
Sure. "Liking" is a start! Ideally it become a conversation. (And thanks... I'll be peeking in again to catch some wisdom as we navigate 4th grade!) #4thChat
Heads up about next week’s #4thchat - Since it is Labor Day there will not be a moderated chat, but all are welcome to hang out and chat with each other next Monday. Enjoy your long weekend.
There are so many websites out there that offer "FREE" photos too. Our district puts the filter on Google so image search results in "Free to Use/Share/Modify" - not that it's perfect but a good start. #4thchat
