#akedchat A1: we have some amazing cooks at work and I tried to be up to par at our Christmas potluck, but it was a bit of a color Pinterest fail but tasted good!
This is a tough question! Moving from the high school classroom to the elementary school library was a huge step out of my comfort zone. I don't have a set curriculum now, and I feel like I'm basically trying something new every week.
I did not notice that you are the very hungry caterpillar! How awesome!!!! Can it just be Halloween every day? Lol #akedchat I felt like that when I taught PK :)
A2: Variety of ways is the way to go. We ran a class newspaper that was published every two weeks. Was great to see their opinions, talents and camaraderie through that! #akedchat
A2 I have an executive board that makes and/or assists with decisions in the program. The students vote on their representatives to make sure my opinions don't overwhelm their experience. #akedchat
Q3: When did you really push yourself to create something epic which still focused on the content? If you haven’t done this, what’s holding you back? #KidsDeservIt#akedchat
A2. In the library, I always ask students what books they want in the library. I have a list out they can add to so that when I go book shopping, I have a reference guide. #akedchat

A3 I arranged a pop show that we performed a few weeks ago. It was a medley of 62 songs, about an hour and 15 minutes run time, and I wrote it to feature solos for all of the seniors and principal players. Nothing holds us back! #akedchat
@WhaleySchool don’t forget to add #akedchat to your reply! I loved the literal red carpet that you rolled out after break... way to model for your staff!
A3: This would have to be the opening of our year. I pushed to create a great learning opportunity for staff and hoped this would push them to create EPIC events in their classrooms.
Nope. We didn't stream or tape it. It was a fund raiser for a trip we want to take next year, so we decided to have it only available live. Blacked out to local audiences! :-) #akedchat
A4. I always, always, always say hi and use their name in the hall. If they had a rough day, I forget it by the next time I see them. I ask them what they're reading and what they like about it. #akedchat

A4: Every second, minute, hour, and day is a new day. Don't take harsh things said to you personally; push forward with positivity each day with every student, every staff, everyone! #akedchat
A4 Ask the lots of questions. It doesn't take that many to find a few things in common. Kids especially love being part of inside jokes, if you can find something in common that makes you both laugh. #akedchat
Better late than never! Hello everyone! I have lunch dates with them twice a month in my classroom. There might be a wee bit of a dessert provided too. Because well, you know, #kidsdeserveit#akedchat
I always loved taking some time to either play with them or just listen to whatever they did want to share #akedchat cafeteria or playground were great spots to hang out.
A4: Encourage them to stay after school and work in my classroom with me. Watch them participate in community events such as sports or music events. #akedchat
A2: Provide lots of opportunities to share ideas, writing, and projects in front of the class. Students write and deliver persuasive speeches, our annual year-end project. I also use Flipgrid and weekly journals to encourage student voice. #akedchat
I celebrate Ss w/ hidden sticky notes in desks or around the room, Bitmoji icons in their annoucements page of Google classroom, hugs, I pass out warm fuzzies, or a end of the day recount of positives and how did they make someone feel special that day. #KidsDeservIt#akedchat
A6. I wish that they knew that we have a ton of military kids coming and going all the time...transient population. And, we're one of the largest elementary schools in the Anchorage School District. #akedchat
I wish everyone knew how important our job is & how much we truly put into it to ensure the best education for all learners in our school! And also that Haines Borough School is full of amazingly humble teachers who should share more of what they do with the world! #akedchat
Our school district makes music a priority for ALL students. We offer virtual orchestra and band for students in villages. We also fly out sometimes, and fly them in for a concert with the town kids in spring. No school is too small for music. I love my village kids! #akedchat
Nope. It was only for one night, and people that missed it will have to wait until next year when we do another one a little bigger and better! #akedchat
