A1 W/the technology we have now being global ready means students are able to reach out to others outside their immediate circle or school culture. They can learn about other places and cultures by talking to people in other places. Learning isn't just in the classroom #MTedchat
A1: A global student knows how to participate in a global community and can appreciate diversity and understand various global issues. Learning happens outside of our classrooms and local communities.
#mtedchat
A2 Empathy is at the top of my list Without empathy we will fail to understand what other truly need from us Empathy allows us to understand as much as we can relate to & work together to solve issues #MTedchat
A2: I think we need to cultivate kindness, acceptance, and tolerance to get people to see similarities rather than differences. We need to foster empathy - we are humans in the end and we all have hearts :) #MTedchat
A2: A calm temperament, warm nature, good character, strong constitution, positive mentality.
Ha! "The best all-round person" should be a goal. #MTedchat
A2: We definitely need to foster greater creativity, patience, empathy, independence, courage..Emerging technologies & greater attention to what are considered soft skills require transforming learning experiences. These dispositions can be coached and modeled. #mtedchat
"Global competence education results in a cultural shift --- one that encourages analysis and reflection, communication and action" -Anthony Jackson Q3: In what ways does your current instruction reflect this cultural shift? Any changes you need to make? #MTedchat
A3 My instruction being student focused has the philosophy that all Ss can...they just need experiences It does not matter who you are or what your walk you can do anything Need to be more intentional & purposeful with this #MTedchat
A3: I teach differently b/c I am a connected educator and work hard to make learning about our world relevant to my Ss. I have shifted from being the teacher in the front to the guide on the side who reaches out to those who know more! #MTedchat
A3: I believe my current instruction includes these strategies. I do my best to push thinking, learning new skills, and reflection of the process. #MTedchat

A3 I try to teach students how to problem solve and guide them in their own discovery rather than giving them all the answers. I have my students analyze where they are and reflect on their learning goals. #mtedchat
A3) In the past two years I have reflected on my White Privilege and how I can shift my thinking to be an ally for races and cultures who are systemically undervalued and targets of racism. #MTedchat
"Global competence education results in a cultural shift --- one that encourages analysis and reflection, communication and action" -Anthony Jackson Q3: In what ways does your current instruction reflect this cultural shift? Any changes you need to make? #MTedchat
A3: My current practice as an instructional coach is to support teachers to be reflective in their practice. I model this in my own practice & encourage my Ts to model it for their Ss. If this becomes a value in the classroom, it's a skill Ss learn on a daily basis. #mtedchat
I agree that being a connected educator has helped my shift my mindset of what learning looks like for different cultures and populations that are in my school. #MTedchat
"The growth of mobile technology means that schools must think what they do to produce fully connected, global-ready graduates." -Will Richardson Q4: Along with technology, what 21st century skills so students need to be considered global-ready? #MTedchat
A3: I have made it a point to read literature to my students that showcases diverse cultures, how to stick up for others, and to value and talk about what makes us all unique. #mtedchat
A4 Communication: Life revolves around communication, something technology has in many ways devalued The more Ts work communication into our routine, the more prepared for the future our Ss will be #MTedchat
A3a: If you know me, you are very aware that I’ll always fight for equity for all in edu. The disparity in access to quality instruction, resources, and community/family support for students based on race, socio economic, edu-labels and geo location is undeniably wrong. #mtedchat
"Global competence education results in a cultural shift --- one that encourages analysis and reflection, communication and action" -Anthony Jackson Q3: In what ways does your current instruction reflect this cultural shift? Any changes you need to make? #MTedchat
A4: It's crazy - I know what my Ss need to be global ready today, but in all honesty, I do not know what they will need by the time they are "in the real world" as adults! I am 3D printing in class & 3 years ago, I would have NEVER thought that! #MTedchat
A4: Open-minded, Communicative with others about their learning, reflective in multiple ways, nonjudgmental when interacting with others who are different. #MTedchat

A3b: I feel I use my voice affectively… I know I need to use my research, experience, and network to create more impactful action. Data talks. We need to stop hiding our numbers and what they represent. We need to shine a light on the disparity and fix it. #mtedchat
"Global competence education results in a cultural shift --- one that encourages analysis and reflection, communication and action" -Anthony Jackson Q3: In what ways does your current instruction reflect this cultural shift? Any changes you need to make? #MTedchat
Reflection has changed how I view myself as a teacher. It taught me how to critically think about the decisions I make in my classroom on a daily basis and long term. #MTedchat
THis is my goal in my classroom. FInding children's picture books with culturally and racially diverse characters is challenging. It's getting easier but still a challenge, #MTedchat

A5) I feel that I can keep learning how to effectively use my voice (thanks @cristama ) to ensure that learning is accessible to ALL students. #MTedchat
For me it was my MA program...I was constantly thinking about my experiences as a T and how they affected my view of teaching. Also helped me understand why teaching on a colony was so difficult. #mtedchat
I have to jump off the chat, before I accidentally fall off the treadmill. I am doing more stopping and tweeting than moving anyway #MTedchat (Great convo, @TriSciCurious ❤️ Thank you!!)
A5 I can relate to a lot of this. There are certain situations where I feel very comfortable using my voice (Twitter), but others where I feel like I don't stand up for what I feel is right. #mtedchat

A5: Shifts I need to make- be more intentional while preparing instruction, provide authentic opportunities to learn, think, analyze, and reflect on the learning. #MTedchat
This chat tonight made me remember I want my students to do GridPals through Flipgrid. I think this would be a great way for my Ss to interact with other Ss from a different culture and expand their global knowledge. #mtedchat
A6) As a school we are working on using culturally competent teaching strategies. I am doing a book study with my digital PLN on "Better than Carrots or Sticks." #MTedchat
I'm sure they do.
I got a library card within a week of moving as it is less than .5 miles a way.
Great things always going on that I will now check out. #MTedchat
