#K12ArtChat is an #ArtsEd chat that happens every Thurs 8:30 pm CST founded by #TeamGrundler @ArtGuy76 & @GrundlerArt & share Ss' art on Fridays via #FabArtsFri.
Good evening, #EduAR friends! Tonight is a hashtag collision trifecta! We are joining forces with #K12ArtChat to discuss the power of #JoyfulLeaders! We welcome you to use the 2 chat hashtags, #EduAR and K12ArtChat. If you want to tack on #JoyfulLeaders, that is great too!
Howdy's #eduAR and #K12ArtChat from Barbara, school counselor and author of What's Under Your Cape? Life brings me joy but only when I'm practicing #mindfulness and remembering to unwrap the present. Connections, relationships, friendships, ALL joy-makers!
My EduSistas @nortnik and @Lindsey_Bohler and I had this dream of Connecting for Kids just a little over a year go...and #EduAR was born! We are now one year old and going strong! So excited to collaborate with @Artguy76 and #K12ArtChat tonight.
#K12ArtChat#EduAR this Laura #artsed Admin from Texas and the other half of @Artguy76 our three kids bring me joy with their big hearts, silliness and creativity
I wanted to do #K12ArtChat tonight but I’m just too sleepy! Goodnight everyone... I’ll check in tomorrow. The topic looks like it’ll stir up some good conversation.
I forgot my pic of what brings me joy... these two, my pups, and when kids get the biggest grin on their faces when they achieve something they thought impossible! #K12ArtChat#EduAR#JoyfulLeaders
A1: See our AP behind these flowers? SHE brings the JOY to school every single day. Confident, loving, kind, firm, fair and consistent. She's respectful, trustworthy, real. And funny! She's a kid advocate who lives life BIG! #JoyfulLeaders#K12ArtChat#JoyfulLeaders
A1, this person walks through the door radiating sunshine & positivity. Not the fake joy, but the deep down truly happy personality #eduar#K12ArtChat#JoyfulLeaders

A2 I bring joyful leadership to my school and district by working to connect my colleagues and students to the arts. The arts foster joy and connection. They help us explore, comprehend and communicate what it means to be human. This is my life’s work and I love it. #K12ArtChat
A2, I try not to be the positive light & find the good in the situation. When my people (any age) struggle, I know any simple gesture can turn their day around. It can be a kind word, a hug, or passing out car/bus notes. #eduar#K12ArtChat
A2 Focus on positive and encouragement the best. Have high expectations, but also be real... maybe add a little sarcasm here and there😜! #K12ArtChat#EduAR#JoyfulLeaders
Q3: A leadership position is a difficult one. They have lots of negative forces to overcome. Finding a balance is crucial. How do you continue to stay joyful in a leadership role? #K12ArtChat#EduAR
YES! I have a place that I stand in my school @CentralCabotpK4 where I can see all kids--bus riders and car riders. I can wave, say good morning, hug, and give high 5s! #EduAR#K12ArtChat#JoyfulLeaders

A2: I bring music into the hallways and work to put a song onto their hearts. Life can play in a minor key for today's superheroes; #joyfulleaders have an amazing opportunity to change the dissonance in their lives one note, one hug at a time. #eduAR#K12ArtChat#ukulele
A3: As an admin I know this to be so true some days feel harsh, it's important to keep focus. WHY!? KIDS!!! EDUCATION changes the world! ART changes perspective - remember your WHY! #K12ArtChat#EduAR
I love to collaborate with teachers and share my new love of incorporating technology in my room. I try my best to bring excitment and my love of art to my Ss. #EduAR#K12ArtChat
A2 I try hard for my students to feel comfortable when they are with me in the classroom. Many of my students comment about how they like it because I am always smiling and they tell me that it makes them happy. This makes me happy to know I made them happy. #K12ArtChat#EduAR

A3: Some days it can so difficult to keep your joy, and not lose it to negativity, adversity, or challenges. Going back to our WHY, reflecting on what is going right, and seeking encouragement from #JoyfulLeaders...that is my action plan! #EduAR#K12ArtChat
A3 By enjoying the journey of the work and by being anchored by the work of connecting others to the arts meaningfully. By having patience with the work. I’m in it for the long game. Ups and downs are part of the game-but the game goes on. #K12ArtChat
A2: Through a recognition that no job is too small or too dirty for your 'leadership' role... and really appreciating (and showing appreciation for) everyone who did those jobs before you did. #lobosarted#K12ArtChat
A3- I try to find people who will be realistic without being negative so I can keep perspective. A good upbeat song always helps restore some balance too. #K12ArtChat#eduAR
Q3: I surround myself with positive people. It is amazing what people/students can do when they feel supported and encouraged. We have to provide that balance for kids too! #EduAR
A3: I make it a point to sit at different tables & just let them talk abt different topics. Get to hear what is in their worlds! & Make art along side them. can’t beat it! #K12ArtChat#EduAR
Q2 I love to collaborate with teachers and share my new love of technology in my room. I try my best to share excitment and my love of art with my Ss. #EduAR#K12ArtChat
A3: I keep my focus on my Ss!! Those 18 kids deserve the BEST from me each & every day!! When things get tough, I take a moment to just connect with them! Either we turn on the music & dance, we sit & chat, or we do lunch bunch! It’s about being w/ them! #EduAR#K12ArtChat
A3:The happiest leaders aren't necessarily focused on success or failure but live by a different perspective--and that outlook is helping others achieve extraordinary things. #JoyfulLeaders#EduAR#K12ArtChat
A4: It makes a huge difference when we take the time to know our people. We can then know when someone might need an encouraging word, a pat on the back, a challenge, or just an ear to listen. #JoyfulLeaders#EduAR#K12ArtChat
A3 ....happy hour.... just kidding 🤪 I try to enjoy moments at home to get away from bad days and I love how so many of you said seek the why... #K12ArtChat#EduAR#JoyfulLeaders
A4: By asking through formal or informal survey, by walking through and checking class out, by shaking hands to get an emotional barometer, by expressing gratitude, by targeting morale & lifting spirits, just because, by planning intentional fun! #eduAR#K12ArtChat#JoyfulLeaders
A4: Check in- but it can't happen without TRUST! Open conversations and coaching conversations - you have to have relationships and value them #K12ArtChat#EduAr
#k12artchat a3 I agree- good leaders treat their school like a family- Ss & Ts lives/future - what is best for them- not policies, budgets or micromanaging- stay focused on that
A4: Keep the office door open at all times– or ideally remove the door all together (everyone wanted to hear you sing along with Pandora anyway). Never refuse a lunch invitation, and make sure the invites you put out far exceed the invites you receive. #lobosarted#K12ArtChat
Q1: A joyful leader is someone who shares successes and learns from failures with their staff and students.. makes everyone feel like they belong in the building.. has a positive and infectious attitude #k12artchat#EduAR
Art educators need to be joyful leaders because the arts are perhaps the most important thing we teach. The Arts helps us and students to explore, comprehend and communicate what it means to be human. What could be more important than that? #K12ArtChat
I couldn't agree MORE! We have 47 elementary art teachers and they teacher every single elementary child in the district (24,000) ! What better joyful leaders! #pisdcreatesart#K12ArtChat#EduAR

Q2: I never take myself too seriously. I laugh a lot with my students, especially when I am feeling stressed out. I take a lot of pride in the work my students do and the efforts they put forward and I try to be an example of empathy, humor, and passion always.
#k12artchat#EduAR
Very true. Sometimes people can appear to be naysayers, but may lack the experience of a situation, or sometimes we may lack it! Discourse can be disagreeable and still be professional...and both sides can learn! #K12ArtChat#EduAR#JoyfuLeaders
A5: It's all in the delivery! We have to remember that if we want people to understand our passion we have to be transparent about the why without turning them away because of our delivery! #EduAR

We are so much better together! I don't even have a real office anymore. I have a desk in our conference room that stays covered with papers, my calendar, and books, along with a phone when I can use when I need to make calls. Everything else is in my backpack! #EduAR#K12ArtChat
The arts have 2 b seen as a means to teach comprehension/meaning-making &communication. They have to be seen as a means to foster connections between content & building community. Content has to be used to build culture-Developing culture is what being human is about. #k12artchat

A5, I try to see their side before responding. If I can offer anything to clear up the confusion, I'll comment & try to get it all cleared up. Some times you just have to scroll past it! #eduar#K12ArtChat
You are so right! Imagine if every educator took some time each week to participate in an Ed Twitter Chat...then shared information from it with their colleagues... #EduAR#K12ArtChat#JoyfulLeaders
A3: I find my balance when I take time away from work to focus on myself and my relationships with loved ones (human and animal). I work hard to motivate students that are afraid, unsure, curious, and hopeful.. I focus on successes in my program and look ahead. #K12ArtChat
A6: We do not count down. I don't talk about it. My sweet kiddos don't need me adding to their stress. My kids thrive in my structured classroom environment. Most of them will not have that structure over the summer and that's scary for them! #eduAR#JoyfulLeaders
In reply to
@bethhill2829, @nortnik, @Lindsey_Bohler, @Artguy76
A6: Celebrate the positive that has happened during the year by displaying student work and don't count down the days until the end of the year, sends a bad message
#K12ArtChat
A2: this year I am also flooding the school hallways, cafeteria, library, walls, windows with artwork. If it fits, I sticks. I want the students to show off the program and all their hard work. #K12ArtChat#eduAR

A6, seriously, be there to listen & offer words of encouragement. Brainstorm activities that might be fun & educational for the students. After all, they're tired too. #eduar#K12ArtChat
Such a blessing and an honor to collaborate with #K12ArtChat tonight! The convo is full of #JoyfulLeaders, so make sure you add to your PLN this evening! #EduAR

A5:Clearly listen-ask questions from values & not fear. Reminder to others that our work w/ tchrs & ss is precious, and we are not going to entertain anyone who tries to dump toxic waste on that goals.#JoyfulLeaders#EduAR#K12ArtChat
A3: After two years with my school I have found which teachers enrich my day and personal feelings about teaching.. and which ones I'd rather take a break from sitting with/talking to. I often go back to this article and send it out: https://t.co/QNquVVuiiX#k12artchat#eduAR
Or something equivalent. I don't think everyone should have to fall in love with the same learning platform. But I'd like to see an equal degree of enthusiasm and commitment to that learning. #PLN#EduAr#K12ArtChat

A6 Focus on positive events & keep kids engaged until the end - draw outside, display art, listen to music, chat with the kids at their tables while working, invite kids to your room to eat at lunch & make art, go to student concerts & games #K12ArtChat#eduAR#JoyfulLeaders
A6: This has been a hard semester for me. I'm the mom of a senior. My co-worker saw my emotional struggle this week. A little gift and the sweetest card placed in my chair while I was out at recess helped me rally through the day! #EduAR#CEtribe
We are going to have a lot of fun next week and yes the magic 8 ball will be a part of the chat - what do you predict the future of education will be? #EduAR#K12ArtChat#oklaed#txed#txeduchat
Totally. They make meaning (comprehend) the things they see, view, read and use that understanding to create meaning or create to improve their comprehension of what they experience. This comprehension/creation cycle is how anything gets made. #k12artchat
Q5: I hear people out when they have a differing opinion of the significance of art in schools. Parents, teachers, and students. I listen to their perspective. If all else fails I explain to them that nearly everything they use in a day has art/design involved. Boom. #k12artchat
