Hello ! Cara from Mo. Thanks for the reminder and excited to be here and learn from you
is going to drop some science tonight about tech-you need to be here if you're not
Matt, Reno, high school social studies, tweeting and watching warriors and cavs
Cara and Lori, I literally have tears in my eyes!!!! Thank you for being so amazing!
A1: should be efficient and effective to create environments where students are lead learners
Welcome Matt - you rock for being here tonight!
"We are Fam-i-ly" just wanted to put that song in your head. :)
A1: tech does not replace a skilled teacher or sound pedagogy, but it has potential to enhance instruction.
I LOVE how you mention students being the leaders of their learning. This fact is crucial in the process.
A1- Tech to enhance and help with collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity!
Use technology as a learning tool not a babysitter
A1 Tech's a tool-without a strong pedagogy its no more useful than any other tool-know what you believe https://t.co/NItdvkmILu
Q1: Create a mantra that describes your philosophy on using tech in schools and tweet it out! https://t.co/Ks3gonTjBl
Now, the song is going to be fabulously stuck in my head. :) https://t.co/8NGA6ZHWlf
"We are Fam-i-ly" just wanted to put that song in your head. :)
A1: why wouldn't we use tech when it helps put the whole of human history at a kid's fingertips?
Knew I could count on you to be here & watching some great ball
I like this perspective- I like using tech to create something different and more meaningful for students!
friends - anyone free for a bit? is happening with & https://t.co/oSVL388S20
is going to drop some science tonight about tech-you need to be here if you're not
And giving the kids choice in what tech they are using!-- not cookie cutter!!
Yes- Learning comes first but tech is becoming a non-negotiable that we need to become comfortable with.
THAT is it!!!! Fitting the needs of the individuals students being adaptable in approaches. Brilliant!
we need to get my fellow Baltimore tweep on
I believe tech can enhance kids' learning but the kids are why we're in the building
Agreed and a skill students will need in future. Not fair to them if we don't use it & teach them 2
A1: Tech is a tool that enhances and informs. It helps those to communicate that otherwise struggle with the standard forms
Great point need Ss 2C it expand their world beyond their community & use to help their community https://t.co/94s7zFWl9D
A1: why wouldn't we use tech when it helps put the whole of human history at a kid's fingertips?
Exactly, if we just focus on tech, then we are in the wrong business. We are in the business of KIDS!
Love this, Cara! I am always amazed at how much my students teach me about tech!
I have read the intro and Ch 1 and am already convinced this man is a genius! :)
Kids first-that has to always be the lens we look through
I say the same statement consistently! :)
Q2: When integrating technology, what are 3 steps that you follow to ensure that its used purposefully? https://t.co/WxP4QXScik
We need to end the whole "im not good with tech" argument-get in there and mess around
and let kids mess around! I let them figure out so many things! We don't have to know it all :)
Yes! Being in tune to the rises and falls of our work can help us adapt and be efficient risk-takers.
yes-they can teach us and peers-thats true learning in action https://t.co/TAUnOMPs06
and let kids mess around! I let them figure out so many things! We don't have to know it all :)
A2: 1. What memorable experience are we creating? 2. What role can tech play to extend it? 3. Will the kids enjoy it?
Saying "I'm not good with tech" is like saying "I'm not good with a pencil". takes practice & effort! https://t.co/j6pFMmK66z
We need to end the whole "im not good with tech" argument-get in there and mess around
I literally screamed YES!!!! as I read your tweet! Genius.
so key 2 make it "memorable" if we don't plan for this it won't happen-learning's not a happy accident https://t.co/ujQOxeyU3x
A2: 1. What memorable experience are we creating? 2. What role can tech play to extend it? 3. Will the kids enjoy it?
oh my gosh for sure! They love being the experimenters and experts - - T as guide on the side etc!
Yes-the pencil was High Tech at some point https://t.co/yyrpcAzg84

YES! There is not such a thing as being bad with tech. The fixed mindset is what is really the problem.
A2: 1.I've sufficiently played w/ the tech 2.It does something other things can't 3.Must enhance understanding not be just cool
I need to feel comfortable using the technology be4 I have my Ss use it. That way, everything runs smoothly :-)
Ss use tech to research questions they have when we read books & document/share growth with parents https://t.co/6m3LPt89Bp
YES! My students have gained the best smiles when they know they are capable to lead, too!
A2
1) Know the Why-- Why are we using it?
2) How does this benefit students?
3) Can my students use it in other areas?
"Must enhance understanding" - great point! https://t.co/Jzcp0hbq3H
A2: 1.I've sufficiently played w/ the tech 2.It does something other things can't 3.Must enhance understanding not be just cool
A2: 1. Does it enhance concepts/learning
2. Does it promote creativity
3. Can it be share/exported
(that from )
Agreed. The problem isn't tech. Its unwillingness to change. We asked kids to learn new. We should too! https://t.co/ddsllcCeoV
YES! There is not such a thing as being bad with tech. The fixed mindset is what is really the problem.
oh my gosh Natalie! a big huge MWAH! coming at ya from NV
Preview all websites/apps to make sure they are purposeful and aligned with what we are learning
I know the feeling. I love at least playing around before I show it to Ss as well- because I love learning it too!
Anything by Cat has to be good advice ;)

I am fascinated with ways we can use tech to bridge parent involvement. With so many apps- NOW is the time.
yes-application in other areas is key-if it only works for one application is it useful? https://t.co/FgTxejimY6
A2
1) Know the Why-- Why are we using it?
2) How does this benefit students?
3) Can my students use it in other areas?
The GIF made the Batman girl inside of me smile. :)
that might be the best GIF ever dropped on an ever! what do you think?
The "WHY" is something that is great to lead with tech initiatives and in all areas! Love!
Agree. I have used for 2 years. A-MAZ-ING! So mush positive feedback from parents.
Let's gather CREATIVITY! YES!
YES!!! I agree! So many ways to reach out to parents besides the weekly newsletter!
yes-family engagement is ripe for a tech makeover-how can we use to get more families "in" classrooms https://t.co/fOQTqfhSUO

A2:Make sure it...
1.doesnt just replace a paper pencil activity.
2-is used as assessment (form or sum).
3-is super engaging.
Lori-- I am counting on you for some personal Seesaw PD next year!
A2: 1. How does this benefit the learner? 2. What is the purpose? 3. How can it be "remixed" for different students?
Nobody cares about all that stuff in the newsletter. Ps want to know what their kid is doing.
As always says, the last thing we need is a thousand dollar worksheet.
Q3 (not Q2): Relationships with Ss and the learning ALWAYS come before tech. How do you ensure this?
Lori is the Seesaw queen!
Amen! Not replacement, but enhancement!
I like this remix idea for differentiation! https://t.co/tovjl371F8
A2: 1. How does this benefit the learner? 2. What is the purpose? 3. How can it be "remixed" for different students?
Absolutely! I would love to see the whole building using it.
Q3 know your kids & families-take the time-ask the question & listen with purpose to what they say https://t.co/jiwITUyO2y

Give me a short commercial on Seesaw.
A3- Know your purpose, always focus on student needs, balance grace & accountability w/ students and lots of class meetings :)
A2 I tell them we are learning together, promote tech and growth mindset. let them know you are never to old
Bingo! We are not too old to hang with the youngsters and learn new tools as well.
A3: You can also build relationships through tech! I have a class FB page: I post pics and parents comment and share!
If we know our why (the little or not so little ones in front of us), everything else comes into focus
Ditto. https://t.co/oss2gb5cIi
A3- Know your purpose, always focus on student needs, balance grace & accountability w/ students and lots of class meetings :)
A3 cont. Tech can help build relationships with families who can't always come into school due to work schedules.
A3: Get off the balcony and onto the dance floor in class with students in order to learn alongside them.
Yes, newsletters can be repurposed to be MORE meaningful. I love the idea of video shorts from Ss
That has a great ring to it. I am singing it now.
