It was good! Started out with half a day of PD on a program called Edmentum that we are using for intervention, and then finished with some work in the classroom. #EDL577UM#UMedTech#4thchat
A1: Will be sharing this with my students through @edmodo which is my LMS - A Poem a Day for National Poetry Month - April - Google Docs https://t.co/ipDUakuLS5#4thchat
I think it will be great! It basically starts with a diagnostic test, places TS on their accurate grade level, starts with the bottom 4 standards that they did not score well on and then creates an individualized learning path for them. #EDL577UM#UMedTech#4thchat
A1: I plan on reading lots of different kinds of poems and asking kids for their favorites. I would like them to memorize a poem of their choice! #4thchat
A1: I plan to have my students write their on poem. We are just coming back from spring break so I'm hoping to hear some very interesting poems! :) #EDL577UM#UMedTech#4thchat
My Poetry page https://t.co/Ivk1nPXb4k#PoetryMonth Poem in Your Pocket Day 2018 is on April 26. "Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words." Robert Frost. Have your students create a Diamante or Acrostic Poem. #edchat#4thchat

I used to do this with my students. They were so pleased with themselves when they could recite a poem in front of their peers. Scary but exciting! #4thchat
A1: I think I will see if I can get some teachers to create some poems using some of the google products or have students recite poems in front of a green screen! #4thchat
A2: I love to read short ones a few times a week-especially Shel Silverstein. But also, I make directions or comments rhyme whenever possible-the kids crack up! #4thchat
I rhyme a lot in class also! The kids definitely crack up! They don't think that teachers can be just as goofy as they are! LOL #EDL577UM#UMedTech#4thchat
Absolutely! I'll say, "You get it?" and I'm sure there are a few who truly don't but everyone chimes in with laughter anyways. Good times! #EDL577UM#UMedTech#4thchat
A3: My students learn songs in social studies like This Land is Your Land, God Bless the USA, The Erie Canal song. In ELA we learn the Simile?metaphor song and others by Melissa. #4thchat
How fun is THAT????!!! I bet the kids love it! I remember we created a poetry anthology in Grade 6. I might even have it in my archives somewhere (of course it was run off on a ditto machine!! lol) #4thchat
I will say that is very accurate! :) I love to cut up with my kiddos. Although, sometimes they get out of hand when I do,and I have to get back in serious mode for a minute. LOL #EDL577UM#UMedTech#4thchat
A4: My students write acrostic, bio, haiku, and limericks to name a few. They struggle the most with the limericks, but feel grand when they get one down. #4thchat
A4: Different kinds of poetry but a lot of narrative poetry and free verse as well. I like to have them write about whatever they want so that they can connect with it better. #EDL577UM#UMedTech#4thchat
Just finding out about my new job as Innovative Learning Coach, telling my students and staff I’m leaving, preparing to present at a conference, winning Outstanding Young Educator of the Year at the conference. #4thchat
Okay!!!! You've got all this goin on! Amazing! So excited for you! I love your new title!!!! (We can continue to collaborate!) #4thchat Congrats on OYE award!
A4 I introduce various kinds & we try them out. My goal is 2 get Ss 2 write in 1 kind at least once. Then they can write in their favorite as often as they want. Don't spend time on rhyming poetry because this is the only poetry they think is worth writing. #4thchat
I love free verse poetry. The kids are quite impressed with themselves when I say, "That sounds like poetry," even before we focus more exclusively on poems. #4thchat

A4: We would write the usual: Haiku, Couplets; Ballad Poetry. My favorite though was teaching them to write like Jack Prelutsky. Here's one resource: https://t.co/PaXTNwz29Z#4thchat
I would struggle with free verse sometimes because it often ended up looking like a paragraph - lol But really free verse makes so much sense for grade 4 students. #4thchat

A5: We have a section in our writing binder where they can keep their poems. But we always have a hole punch close by in case they create on a scrap paper in moment of brilliance! We can still include it! #4thchat
This is a close reading our literacy coach, @BLongmeier, did with "My Fight Song." She did a great job getting the kids to dig deeper into the lyrics. #4thchat
A6: My students love creating Google slideshows and then we can tweet them out - one example from last April is Musa C. - My Poem Gallery - Google Slides https://t.co/GPZqAI00Bm#4thchat
A6: Mostly author's chair style sharing; however, we still struggle with shyness so many of them do not want to share. Do you all still make your shy students share or do you only have the ones who want to share? #EDL577UM#UMedTech#4thchat
I encourage them all to share, but the shy ones can choose to read to a partner of their choice. But all of them will do the video on @seesaw- even if they have support from a friend I haven't had one turn it down yet! #4thchat
When Ss don't want to share, I ask them if it's OK for me to read their writing, poem in this case, and more often than not they agree to having me read it to the class. A couple of times of my doing this and they get the courage to share for themselves. #4thchat

Q7: I would love to give them more time to investigate poetry, find what they like and practice what they like to write. Feels like I have to expose them to types of poetry quickly and move on. #4thchat
A5: Have never really thought about the organization. I did have a book bin full of poems but nothing more formal. Can't wait to hear some ideas. #4thchat
A7 Fortunately, I don't have a testing crunch here in Canada at grade 4. And even the grades that do test - grades 3 and 6 at the elementary level, don't seem to stress out too much about it. I know this is not the case in the US... #4thchat
A7: Absolutely. If teachers didn't have so much pressure put on them about state tests, I think that we could incorporate a lot more creative ideas for many things; poetry being one of them! #EDL577UM#UMedTech#4thchat
I'm thinking that I might do #PoemADay throughout the year in much the same way I do #classroombookaday during the year. Something for me to think about...#4thchat

A8: Memorizing Paul Revere’s Ride when I was in 4th grade and then teaching it to my own 4th graders. We made a collaborative VoiceThread of the poem with @janwells ’s class in Kansas one year. #4thchat
A8: I remember the nuns having us memorize Christmas poems and then took us to nursing homes to recite them. I loved that feeling and the audience was so supportive- smiling and paying attention. #4thchat
A9: I agree GHOs for live sharing. But you could make a private YouTube channel and share the link with another teacher so the kids could comment on the videos of kids reading them! #4thchat
It's been so great having you girls here tonight! Thanks for coming by and we home to see you again! We are here on Mondays at 8est! #4thchat@plnaugle@ncarroll24

I read diff PB every day. It hasn't been easy - never seems 2 be enough time; even 10 mins is hard to come by! However, my Ss love #classroombookaday! I didn't start it; @heisereads is the culprit! I plan to be more intentional next year. #4thchat
A8: I used to read & re-read the Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes when I was younger. My dad would recite some Longfellow Poems: Paul Revere's Ride; Hiawatha; The Village blacksmith & More! #4thchat
