#caschat Kirsty from Cheshire don’t like 🍦 I’ll have 🍟 please 🤣 . A1 Leave the more demanding topics until the summer when the students are able to cope with them - apart from the last week of term of course then I experiement ! #norisk
A1 #CASchat I focus more on the IT strand of the competing curriculum in summer term. I touch on3D design and graphics, animation. This is mainly because summer term is always busy and I’ve have just come off a heavy term of programming.

A1 #caschat I like to do a fairly big physical computing project Y5 are making animated canvasses with @_codebug Y6 @RedfernElec#crumble dragsters 'borrowing' an idea from the fab @hodge_jo & hoping to trial @sphero minis with Y3 & Y4
I am a parent. I am not a teacher teaching computing.
A1. We haven't left anything specific. Interested in getting the kids to do some boring stuff as well, instead of always doing interesting stuff. Will be glad if someone take my kids as interns to update website #caschat

A1 #caschat Treasure hunt—Finite-state automata - Computer Science Unplugged

route to Treasure Island secret. The goal is to find a sequence of ship rides that will get from. Pirate's Island to Treasure Island

Kids have just started club of their own (teaching others to code). Supporting them through it, and learning what it is going to be - kids teaching kids to code. Did not plan specifically for summer term. Just happened. #caschat

#caschat A1 Currently doing App Inventor with Year 6 building WW2 apps but planning to support Year 4 to use @RedfernElec Crumbles to create moving toys and Year 3 to make Greek mazes with @sphero!
A2 - When kid is interested, has generally high focus & has liking for challenging problems to slove (kid1), then hot or cold - does not matter. Whereas kid2, who needs someone else with him all the time, perhaps will do better in a collaborative env (pair programming) #caschat
A2 #caschat I find focus with physical computing is pretty good, especially as ss are involved in all aspects from project design, to #Maker to #coding. Outdoor #unplugged sortng networks is always a good activity for burning some energy and refocusing
A2 last year we had an outdoor classroom day and so with my students we spent the hour playing traditional playground games then capturing the rules as an algorithm (sticky glue, what’s the time mr wolf etc) #caschat
#caschat A1 I found the fan I bought from Argos works a treat 😹 seriously through introducing a competitive element with an edible (healthy of course😜) prize works a treat esp with boys
There might be some re-stealing about to happen. Thanks for the idea. So many projects end up being LEDs. Great for the dark winter months but I'd love something which suits the summer, and especially the outdoors. Going out and taking pictures could mix nicely into canvases.

A2 I have an emergency box of “problem solving” games for when the lethargy sets in : top trumps, snakes and ladders, dominoes, cards,Maths puzzles, sudoku etc it’s amazing how excited they get - lots of opps for sorting algorithms #caschat

A3 #caschat Prompted me to recall last year's project. Could be done in school playgrounds - write a text adventure, deploy to the boxes, invite the whole school to play a wide area game https://t.co/FOC1dGrSCj ... very wide as an orienteering game, hidden boxes as treasure hunt?
A2 currently doing crumble with Yr 6 and planning to do Minecraft Edu Egyptian pyramid and tomb building with Yr 4 for after 1/2 term once assessments are done #caschat

A3 physical sorting activities with giant A3 laminated cards / Packet switching v circuit kids are the packets / fastest way to the canteen test out your algorithms / schmooze the network manager to walk you through the network ( thank you Mr Ford) 🤓#caschat
Q3 Oh yes and if I NEVER see those videos again it will be no loss I think I could do them in my sleep I have seen them that many times oh no the tune is stuck in my head now 😡 #caschat
A3 #caschat wanted to build Snakes and Ladders physical exertion game for ages - up a hill or some stairs, with micropython+pressure altimeter. Roll a 6, up 6 steps, hit a snake, go down. An accessible challenge to write the code for this? Testing it involves running up and down
A3 a good ole “circle time” where they sit and tell the group about a topic of their choice for a minute or two. Gets them to developable whole raft of skills #caschat
Kid2 wanted to do a thermostat with two microbits to help him know when to water the pants in greenhouse. 1microbit in the greenhouse Would still require some #pluggedin time. #caschat

A4. When doing non-computing, asking the kids to act like they are executing a code and what will it look like (buy milk, buy six when you see eggs. => bring six milks.) #caschat
A4 I think it’s a sign the year is ending and it’s time to reflect and refresh for the new school year. Tweak SoW and think about how to make learning joyful #caschat
