A1 I love Grey's Anatomy, it has been a nice science related bond with my Ss. I also like crme shows. I do always talk about why they do all of their science in the dark....especially CSI! #scitlap
A1 I love @deadliestcatch & other types of reality shows They often have science embedded into the episodes, bio & weather are frequent topics #scitlap
A1) Over the years, kid interest has brought the following shows into the classroom: ER, HOUSE, Grey's Anatomy, MythBusters. THE SIMPSONS. AND SPONGEBOB. #scitlap
I love all of those and yup, had discussions about all of them! I love it though when kids see the science in the unexpected and question the science, like in SpongeBob. #scitlap
A2 I either try to catch them doing something amazing and then just announcing, wow - you rock! I also like to make them laugh and be part of my people/school family. #scitlap
A2 Other than greeting them at the door I love cheering them on. I also started a Legacy wall inspired by @mrmatera and this week we are starting a shout out wall! #scitlap
Oooh, would love to see some pics as you add to it! Nice work! #scitlap
Actually, can you expand on the Legacy Wall - I want a good picture in my mind. #scitlap
A3 Wow. Hmm. Nothing like proposals. Had a student decide to walk through the stream (in his shoes) last week when we were outside. He then proceeded to almost take a bath. #scitlap
A3) Keeping the door open leads to "pop-in" visits btwn fellow pirate @MrBarry628 classroom and mine. Science/social studies connections and commentary always welcome! #scitlap
A2) I haven't done it yet this year BUT I did gather student "walk-up" songs and need to start using them on birthdays and other celebratory times... #todolist#scitlap
A3 I think it depends on what it is. Sometimes there are unpredictable things that happen that can lead to wonderful debate and conversation and be completely engaging and become those moments of this is why I became a teacher. #scitlap

A4) First I'd like to thank the academy for the opportunity...I have to thank my parents for paying for my edu - even when it took a roundabout path for me to enter education! #scitlap
The usual suspects but also @andyweirauthor for his example of riveting science content, my building principal @nkellenberger1 for encouraging me to move beyond the standards, and the legendary teachers who taught me, Mr. James Combs & Mr. Sean Mulkey. #scitlap
In reply to
@daleyscience, @andyweirauthor, @nkellenberger1
A3 Phone calls, students being pulled out, fire drills, HOT days.....there is always something. You just have to go with the flow. I think teachers are the best at adjusting on the fly. #scitlap
A4 I wish I could find her, but it would be my 10th grade Biology teacher. She inspired me to not only be a teacher, but a science teacher. I thanked her several years ago for sending me on my path, but I would love to thank her again. I would also thank my amazing plan. #scitlap
A4 My new principal asked me this the other day and there are just so many people who have shaped me. All the way from my 5th grade teacher, to the beautiful souls at Mass Audubon, my current rock star department and team, former principals and family members! #scitlap
A5 Professionally, becoming a NYS Master Teacher. I'm also proud of the more personal accomplishments big and small, reaching Ss. Every day. Everyday. #scitlap
A5 I'm proud of a lot of things, like being an advisor to a SUPER group of committed kids in our Chestnut Club, I'm proud of my adventures in leadership, but always strive to be better! #scitlap
A5) Presenting at conferences; being included in a @dbc_inc book (P is for Pirate); but truly, its becoming a part of a kid's collective memory/history. When I see alumni and their families, it just makes my day. (I saw MANY today at synagogue, so it's fresh on my mind) #scitlap
A6 If I notice the lesson isn’t going well and I can change course I will, but sometimes that doesn’t happen until my second block. Then I go back the next day and correct the first block the next day. #scitlap
A6 Somedays you just gotta be like, nope - this isn't working. That's when I usually just stop and ask kids what they think; about a project, redesign and move forward. When things don't go well, we reverse engineer! #scitlap
Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching and you should apply. Nominations open in October. I’m not sure if it’s s a k-6 or 7-12 year but I think it’s for you and @biologygoddess#scitlap
A7 Depending on the lesson I try doing a closure activity. Usually we do a quick @plickers set. They changed things up recently and its still bothering. #scitlap
A7 I would love to be one of those Pinterest, exit ticket kinda girls, but I just don't do it as much as I should. I give kids the last minute or two to organize, but so many still shove those papers in their bags #futile#scitlap
Exit tickets are a pain in the butt. They need to be quick and informative to be of any use. Otherwise it annoys both the student and teacher. That's not good for anyone. #scitlap
A8 We try to celebrate victories as a teacher team. Whether it is just making it to Friday or helping a student find success.
In class student teams get recognition and rewarded in #classcraft#scitlap

A8 All I know is that I can't do it alone! I like genuine celerations. Certificates are nice, but it is those real moments of celebrations....cheering, hugs, fist umps that I love! #scitlap
True. Formatively assessing throughout a period should give you enough info not to need exit tickets all the time.
What gets me is when Ss are late to my class cause a teacher wouldn't let them leave without turning in a ticket.
ugh.
