#personalizedPD chat. A fast-paced, fun chat to discuss personalized professional development for educators. We discuss what it is, why it's better than traditional PD, how to create personalized PD opportunities, how to scale it from individuals to districts, and how to inspire it from individuals to districts to want more and more of it. Hosted each week by Jason Bretzmann @jbretzmann and Kenny Bosch @KennyBosch and moderated each week by a guest moderator. 8pm Central each Tuesday.
A1: My #PersonalizedPD resolutions are to incorporate more of what I learn in my Twitter chats. I also want to take the Google Certification within the next few weeks.
A1: I want to continue to reflect as a teacher and take the feedback the students gave me to better my lessons for the next time I teach it. #personalizedPD
A2: Our district over the last two years has realized that Ts need that time to be #personalizedPD so they have allowed us to focus on what we want to learn.

A2 It's important to provide options for staff learning, including the chance to choose what you would like to learn both alone or with a group. #PersonalizedPD
A2 Even I’m required PD I am always looking through the lense of my personal learning goals. As a leader, I try to give my Ts voice & choice when designing structure for learning days. #PersonalizedPD
I mean I have been in college since August 2007. So I might as well keep going right? Have a streak to upload here! #professionalstudent#personalizedPD
A2: #PersonalizedPD Because the other two PreK teachers in the district and I don't get together very often, I use that time to dig deeper into my passion, which is learning all I can about how to help students coming to school from trauma-filled home lives.
A2: Collaborating in Google Doc during PD with other Ts. Sharing resources and information that we're interested in. Building a plan together, not just listening. #PersonalizedPD
Q3: With all learning, sometimes we need to lean on someone else. How do you seek out others to collaborate with for #PersonalizedPD within your school/district?
A3: I have partner in crime two doors down that I meet with every day to exchange lesson segments and teaching strategies. Couldn't imagine my current professional life without her! #personalizedPD
A1: #JustDoIt I've never been a person who hesitates or prevaricates when it seems right. My 2018 'resolution' is more about full-steam ahead and trust your gut. If it makes sense, don't wait. Just do it. #personalizedPD
A3. We have identified our strengths (themes) and they are displayed and shared. It helps to identify key people to network and learn from. #PersonalizedPD

Q3: With all learning, sometimes we need to lean on someone else. How do you seek out others to collaborate with for #PersonalizedPD within your school/district?
A3: We have designated time after school each week to PLC with like subjects. I also make it a point to have mentors in the building that aren't in my department to learn from. #personalizedPD
A3 One of my favorite job activities is collaborating with my fellow TIs on trainings to come...and also with Ts on lessons that I push in for. #personalizedPD
A3: Today, I put out that I would be working on some new learning & invited other who were interested to join in. A few even showed up! #personalizedPDhttps://t.co/mo1rhrYDo3

A3: We meet with PLC's once a month to follow up large scale inservice. Also Ts know my door is always open & Admin is supportive of more personalized approach. #PersonalizedPD
A2: We'll be playing "Game of Stories" after school next Wednesday with a small cross-discipline group of Ts at my high school. AND we'll be playing at #ISTE18 Should be fun! #personalizedPD
A4: I post about them on Twitter for my colleagues to see. I also set up PD sessions for them to attend. I share with the individuals that are taking part in my research. #personalizedPD
A4: By implementing it successfully in my classroom first, then giving the associated documentation etc to my colleagues. Not just saying "hey, listen, you'll never guess what I learned..." #personalizedPD
A4: #PersonalizedPD I wish that anyone who went to a workshop or conference got to share something from that experience! Usually, I just blog about it.

Sounds wonderful Cathy. Love that you volunteered to organize this! You find us a date for 4-8 people and we can use my zoom account. What great stories we'll hear and share! #personalizedPD
It's time for the #Lurker shoutout! We love our lurkers at #personalizedPD
It's been a hard days lurk. Don't sit in the background, share your great ideas and join the chat, or not, it's cool.
A5: Providing the time, encouraging staff to share their learning (especially using #EDUdailyTweets), supporting & encouraging passions! #personalizedPD
A5: By referring them to this chat, for one thing! Also, by telling them about the books I am reading and how they have impacted my teaching as I said in the answer before. #personalizedPD
Not "got to" but "wanted to". If they wanted to, they would. They would find a way - just like we do. They need to learn the value in sharing & building a PLN. Admin needs to support & encourage this. #PersonalizedPD
Looking forward to reading more of it Jay. I wrote a post recently that is not some of my best work, but it's OK and thinking back to my one word for '18 I had to post it and "just do it." https://t.co/aCKHh8wDP6#personalizedPD

blogger is the easiest and is no frills. wordpress is a bit more complex and allows you to add a domain name you purchased. Don't know about bloglovin' but it's fun to say. Wix is another option. Choose what works for you and soar! #personalizedPD
A5: empowering others by creating time and space with the expectation that they are in control of their learning. Sharing resources that others may find interesting/useful. Highlighting & celebrating successes in #personalizedPD experiences.
I would throw my vote out for blogger...the simplicity has made posting enjoyable for me...I did purchase rights to the domain name for my site #personalizedPD
A5 I always talk about the power of EdCamps...I think they are really valuable. Reading blogs and listening to webcasts is also awesome #personalizedPD !
A4: Actually the other chat I'm doing right now is #PersonalizedPD Great resource for personalizing. Leaders need to listen to Ts, just like Ts listen to Ss. Leaders need to understand the needs of their team. #LT8Keys#CultureED
A6: When I have time to reflect on the learning that I have most recently participated in and make connections with others. #personalizedPDhttps://t.co/lof7LSOPgo
A5: Getting groups of cross-discipline Ts together to discuss what we're doing in our classrooms. Might play 'Game of Stories' & use it to learn from each other. Hopefully leads to more collaboration & inspiration for more #personalizedPD Stay tuned...
A6: When I'm collaborating on something with another T and we're both growing b/c of it. None of it's mandated either. Doing it b/c we know it's better for our Ss #PersonalizedPD
I agree, Brian. It helps me to have time to do both. I like to think about it first and how I want to use it and then ask others what they came up with. #personalizedPD
A6: When I have time to reflect on the learning that I have most recently participated in and make connections with others. #personalizedPDhttps://t.co/lof7LSOPgo
A7: When seeking out #personalizedPD it can become financially draining and time consuming. Have to say I love and appreciate all the companies that do free webinars and Twitter convo of course! #personalizedPD
A7: The fact that there are only 24 hours in the day, and I have to spend a third of them sleeping and another third in the classroom teaching! #personalizedPD
A7: Balancing time for staff to pursue their own passions with #PersonalizedPD as well as making sure required items are included in a timely manner as well. https://t.co/SBYEks0KT4
A7: It's a challenge to find the time to help others & guide the #personalizedPD experience as it starts for some. Want to find the time to be a better coach so more & more Ts can get what they need.
A7: Since Jarod is here, I'll throw this out there. A challenge we face is showing that #personalizedPD is having an impact & is needed. How do we know the importance if Ts aren't clamoring for it? And what's the accountability piece? @jbormann3
A8: Point B in my Professionally Driven model is "Positive effect on student outcomes." Applies to every grade level/content area. Shouldn't that be building/district goal every year? #personalizedPD
A8: From a leadership perspective it is at the heart of how we design and implement professional learning. Ts haven’t quite made the shift in seeing themselves as the owner of their learning instead of a requirement of the job. #personalizedPD
Jessica, how do you feel about abandoning "campus goals" for allowing Ts to create their own? No campus goal other than be a great school for all staff and students.
#personalizedPD
Agree, but I also just asked @Owl_b_TorresEdu Why do we have campus goals that not all Ts may even care about? Can we support Ts creating their own goals for the year and then finding #personalizedPD to assist them?
A8: From a leadership perspective it is at the heart of how we design and implement professional learning. Ts haven’t quite made the shift in seeing themselves as the owner of their learning instead of a requirement of the job. #personalizedPD
Ideally, that would be the vision; however, when you are at the mercy of the state because of inability to meet accountability standards there must be parameters and streamlined goals. #personalizedPD
A9: As #PersonalizedPD is about what you need, It has helped me to learn that we can always learn new approaches to old problems. https://t.co/66pn7sR6Tp
I advocate for separating the "have-to" from the "want-to" time. Telling everyone their #personalizedPD topic has to have a literacy focus inherently says that everyone is not good at literacy instruction, when some may, in fact, be rocking it.
Thank you, Brian for moderating a great chat tonight!
Please join us again next week Tuesday, same cool chat time, 8-9PM, CST, same awesome #.....#personalizedPD
