#aussieED was founded on the belief that all teachers, and students, should have unlimited access to Professional Development, on their own terms, to improve their teaching, their schools and change the lives of the students they encounter. Since then, we have embarked on a mission to reach educators, not only in Australia but, all around the globe. We want to smash the barriers that prevent teachers from easily connecting and learning with each other. To that end, we have developed a regular Ed-chat each Sunday on twitter at #aussieED. The chat allows all teachers, leaders, administrators and all those connected with education to meet on an unbiased platform and discuss the real issues that effect what happens in classrooms everywhere. Our chats are authentic because we are real teachers walking the same walk that so many do everyday.
Hmmm... I must disagree. It’s disheartening to see the tone folks take. I’d much rather hear constructive ideas .. more “what ifs” and “why nots” and “how might we” than all the tearing down and petty banter #AussieEd
At what point does personal classroom experience trump educational research? How critical can we be? I'm a scientist and science teacher, I believe in science but what if it contradicts your instincts? #aussieED
I'm a late arrival to tonight's #aussieED chat.
Thankfully there were educators who saw the very important place for explicit #teaching within inquiry approaches.
So much misunderstanding of what inquiry approach is about.
Well done moderators. A tough moment well handled.
I have not been able to roll out of bed for #Aussieed lately. Hope to return when the time changes. This looked like an absolutely incredible chat. Inquiry learning IS controversial but here the pushback is often more covert than overt.
Great question. The answer - action research in your classroom, evidence of learning showing who is learning and to what degree. Even a best practice like formative assessment is worthless if not done right. Teach, assess, respond, repeat. #aussieed@ZeinaChalich@MRsalakas

I don't get why it's has to be controversial.
It's not a panacea or appropriate to every class/subject/topic/age but when used wisely & when it uses elements of other approaches (especially #explicitteaching), it's powerful.

I will have to look through the chat. Inquiry was very effective for me as I taught social studies for many years. I am also a very standards-based person and some see that as a conflict with inquiry. Looks like the topic touched a nerve. #aussieed
