#NVedchat is dedicated to increasing communication and collaboration of education related topics in the State of Nevada. Originally, created by Mr. Snehal Bhakta.
A1- have S make a post it note wall of "What if" and "What then" questions. Others answer it, not me. Makes great interaction of critical thinking between S to S #NVedchat
A1: I love to embrace ambiguity and & explore "what ifs". I encourage my students to write about the untold narratives of popular works such as Hamlet. #NVedchat
A1-Sometimes I wouldn't even answer the question I posed and would just see what would happen...of course right before the bell would ring. Got some interesting answers the next class period. Was easy to tell the students that did #criticalthinking. #NVedchat
R1: philosophical ?s are ones that make Ss really think out there. Another ? is is the world round or flat? Seems to be a topic of interest due to a few celebrities #NVedchat
R2: with @PLTWorg, part of the strategy of teaching classes is to make Ss think and don’t settle for simple. I like to reply with “what do you mean?” “Why do you want to know?” & if it isn’t in depth, then I say “I’ll get back with you when you can be more specific”#NVedchat
A2-I tried to get students to work on a project for at least 15-20 mins before they could ask any questions after the info was presented. Some were on the right track and for others it was a learning experience. #NVedchat
A2:Just last week I provided a handout of question in a book I found online.Asked students to write better questions then engaged in Socratic Seminar. Amazing what they came up with! #NVedchat
Make sure to stay strong...sometimes its easy to want to help...an educator's nature. Think of the greater good and how much stronger and better prepared the students will be. #NVedchat
A3: everything we do and talk about in the fire academy relates to getting them to the next step. They are always looking at what if. What if I post this on social media, what if I volunteer here. What it makes it more meaningful #NVedchat
A3: when teaching history I always try to have kids explore "what it was like, what it is like, how would you like it to be. For example immigration Past present future #NVedchat
A3: as a literature/creative writing T there are so many ways to connect w/real world issues, social justice. I always try to reshape curriculum to add pieces that are relevant to my Ss and their lives/climate. #NVedchat
A3-Everything was connected to the real-life or real-world. Can't think of anything that wasn't in my classroom unless it was mandatory high stakes testing and even then I said it was like getting questioned at a legal stand regarding a trial of their knowledge. #NVedchat
I did an activity called 6 Degrees of Separation in US History that was designed to take 2 seemingly unrelated events and connect them, especially to present day #nvedchat
A3 I'll ask where might, or how might this fit into your world? I use might rather than does, so it gives them the opportunity to explore the options.
#nvedchat
R3: I really try to also make connections of my subject area to that of others constantly. A way I can do this is to have Ss come up with the connection. #NVedchat
A3 discuss real situations, today we discussed ( Employability skill #7) creativity & resourcefulness in Medicine I referenced article I read about ER DR who was in charge the night of shooting, how he triaged & managed situation as supplies ran short #NVedchat
R4: I make Ss do a lot of sketching and planning. They have to run proposals past me. I provide critical feedback and make Ss go back for modification often. Our Ss have a tough time with this because they have been told what to do since they were 3. #NVedchat
A4 we encourage student voice & choice through our #PBL & passion projects-Ask what do you care about & how can you show us what you've learned #nvedchat
A4-I would have the students get into #BeastMode both intellectually and physical had them move. It was amazing that getting the blood moving caused #creativity to flow... #NVedchat
Yes-slowing down to let the learning soak in is key-also providing them with real life applications builds the connections-we can't just keep saying you'll need this in __ grade #nvedchat
A4 I like the idea of creating digital project / products as cumulative or review Students currently making @AdobeSpark video products on the steps to otoscope & ophthalmoscope Exams #NVedchat
A4-I would have the students get into #BeastMode both intellectually and physical had them move. It was amazing that getting the blood moving caused #creativity to flow... #NVedchat
being able to show how their creation connects to the learning is key-sat today with 5th graders who explained how their sundials showed their understanding of Earth's movements around the sun as a way to measure time #NVedchat
R4: sometimes when I don’t give time restrictions, other Ts within the same content area get ahead of me. Makes it difficult when you are to hit a certain amount of material in a semester. When do curriculum maps Trump creativity? #NVedchat
So true. I always believed that the traditional desk was the worst piece of furniture for a student to learn in...my opinion. I replaced mine with a yoga ball and the students actually enjoyed coming to class. It was a mindshift of culture and learning. #NVedchat
It was a highlight of my day-why I always try to spend the bulk of my day talking with kids about their learning-this shows how the teaching is going #nvedchat
Awesome job @SnowVegas! Thanks for making me think even more. And thanks to all who participated in @NevadaEdChat each week for making me work harder in class. The Ss deserve this! #NVedchat
I have a monster plan for a school wide #PBL with multiple subject areas working together. Hoping to get this to happen for 18-19. We will see #NVedchat
I gave them a start and a finish, they took it from there, such as how did the Spanish-American War lead to the passage of the 18th Amendment? #nvedchat
