Happy to be here. I teach HS history will be focusing on on world and model UN
HI Alex! Great to have you with us!
and we are ready to learn from you
. I know it's been a while, but it's Summertime.
how are you doing William?
What are some ways to engage Ts through online PD and resources?
I'm interested in setting up student blogging. My constraint is that I only see students for an hour a day for about 20 days.
I'm hanging out in Middlebury for a few weeks! Loving with weather! Florida is really hot this time of year!
Would enjoy hearing specifics of how the administrators support their Ts in re to PD & goal setting.
Glad to see join - school must be over :)
Lots on my mind but I will start light, how many of you will use Hamilton in your classes?
I keep finding things I agreed to do 3-5 months ago
Very zen, mindful of thoughts but not being the thoughts. DFW is a master of language
Wondering what the top 2 traits you would seek out in a edtech teacher for your school?
you may want to do paper blogging instead. You simply don't have enough time to really get into it IMO
Great idea Becky! Have you decided upon a blogging platform?
I have used to do online PD with Ts in lieu of f2f PD
Here is a question: QN1 how do you know when it is time to change jobs?
That isn't a constraint! Blogging is a great idea to stay connected with even if you physically aren't
Blogging is a great way to engage Ss, share learning, assess, and archive. Go for it!
I want all of my teachers to grow. I look for PD's that I can guide them to, and they make request for others.
For "edtech teacher" do you mean someone who trains other teachers?Or a T using it?
my admin navigates, but we are a school and we steer the ship!
when you can't come up with a good reason to stay
Great Q Aman! I always encourage Ts to join Twitter, but certainly not the only option! PLN, what do you think?
Something I'm always interested in is Silos, and how we can teach concepts and topics across subjects.
I want my teachers to know where they are and what they need to grow so I can try to provided it for them.
One who knows their stuff and who makes it look easy for us that don't. I had one like that!
Someone who teams with adults toward a common goal. https://t.co/YMykMx1RBo
For "edtech teacher" do you mean someone who trains other teachers?Or a T using it?
I definitely will (8th grade Am. History) Probably take one song and research the facts behind it.
if you are asking, it is probably time
Would love more ideas on this. We just adopted schoology and this is in my plans
collaborative goal setting sets the stage for success. Everyone has a stake in success when goals developed together
, do you meet with each T to get a sense of professional goals? Follow up with them after conferences?
That's a great question. Admins, what do you to support Ts in regard to PD and goal setting?
I always wonder what that crazy bird is thinking
just asking probing questions. It is what I do
For example, history, economics and scientific progress.
I am interested in this as well! I have a class of 3rd graders but limited lab access 1-2 days/ week
should be during the day & Ts need to be given choice of topics!
A1 when you don't feel like you make a difference any more
Is there a system or protocol in place for Ts to identify on and reflect upon goals?
wish I could get tix to Hamilton. Send me tix please
I actually started a blog for myself and I check whenever it is convenient
It's time to make change when you are no longer effective or you feel you can't grow.
So I can travel to 4 different schools and service all 4th graders and 3rd graders (for only 5-10 sessions)
I tried to but it is hard when you have so many friends ask
At what point do you and your Ts set these goals?
Open-mindedness, flexibility, willingness to learn/ask for help. Proficient in basic edtech like GAFE, dig curric
You will be amazed. We (My kids and I ) have been doing that with almost every line of the show.
maybe set up a class blog, have students write on paper and pick a few to post?
How do I get a song to play from my computer to people video chatting without it playing from my speakers
understood. I thought it was a relevant answer for someone thinking of that Q though!
. Provide purposeful advice and have the willingness to mentor other Ts. Be resilient and able to stay relevant.
I ADORE Hamilton - how broad will the impact be?
knowledge & freedom for Ss to explore & experiment
CT has its ups and downs. ;) Checking in from West Hartford.
Ok everyone, if I were to order a What should I get? Is there a kit? Or just the B or B+?
I set up groups in for specific PD. Diff groups for diff purposes
Great question Meredith! I'd say...enthusiasm for kids and enthusiasm for supporting adult learners.
Good evening... Attempting to join in
I try to give them a platform to share what they have learned with the rest of the teachers from their PD.
Do you use Hamilton as a hook only? Or as part of a real stds-based history lesson?
Nathan can you help me out with something
I've read a lot on Hamilton (even got to stand in the redoubt he took at Yorktown) so this is right up my alley :)
AN1: When you no longer get excited about being in the position or you've accomplished all you can in a position or reach a wall
I've been to your page before. It's such an amazing wealth of resources and ideas. Thanks!
Welcome! We are glad you are here! Is this your first chat?
Going to head out early as the little one was up several times last night.
Or reach a ceiling that's being pushed down on you https://t.co/ffkSgJh1tE
AN1: When you no longer get excited about being in the position or you've accomplished all you can in a position or reach a wall
Ts choice= I am worried Ts won't engage with the platform for pd
I think he should send all the teachers there...
we do it together. We have a small leadership team - 3 Ts & 1 admin. Use a variety of protocols to make that happen.
no specific time...obviously start the year this way but can be anytime based on needs of Ts and Ss
Hey, West Hartford is my home town! Conard class of '87 :)
Agreed! Esp us history teachers!
AN2: I will listen to them, but they are not a fave
podcasts/vodcasts - then they can listen on their own; use online survey/response form for accountability
I have little ones, but I would do both.
when you feel bored & don't look forward to going to work in the morning; when not feeling challenged
we do student focus groups, surveys, staff needs assess. etc for school needs then structure PD. This year SEL was focus
If you could collaborate with your library media specialist in any ONE lesson, what would it entail?
cool! Grew up in Cheshire. And you're back to CT for the summer? What for? Is family here?
works well with others and passionate
hi Renee White from NC checking in for a bit.
Love the vodcasts idea for bite-sized PD
I will like them With or Without You!
My husband and I have rental houses up here...currently staying in Middlebury until tenants move in on 6/18 :)
Hi al! Sorry I'm late to the party!
Welcome Jeremy. I met one of the Mods in CT
I started a blog - 1 post! - but I don't know how to manage students blogging.
Digital citizenship/digital literacy related, for SURE!
can become contagious. Use in lieu of f2f and Ts appreciate you giving them flexibility w/ time
Hey ! I've heard things were going on!
Yes, join Twitter for PLN. Search and join chats like or chat
Thank you for all the feedback to my Q Recharging my energy for Twitter as a PLN.
Hey there lady! So glad you could join us!
happy to be here! Happy summer!
Yes... I practiced in class last week
We are 1:1 iPads so I want every S contributing. Which platform? I've tried several.
I feel like we (my coteacher & I) beat that into the ground.
very real fear. We did a network model to help mitigate this. Start f2f then moved more virtual.
Such an important topic! So much more impactful when lessons are taught across subjects.
I know there are some out there. We did an chat before, and others were sharing.
Is (/ ) & separate at your school? how/in what way(s) & why?
welcome to style - ask and ye shall receive!
YAY YOU! We need more teachers like you!!!!
absolutely how to use and evaluate Internet resources in research! Also, online research tools like Noodletools
hi will! It was awesome to see u !
enjoy these last few days then! Summer's coming somewhere.
I help w/ a S led blog. We use Docs to drafts. Togteher we discuss audience & supporting images. Topic list on board
Have you investigated ? I have heard very kid friendly platform for elementary.
My wife thinks I have a thing for from In the Heights to Silent E is a Ninja, he is brilliant.
Another question? If u could wave a wand and have 1 wish come true 4 next school year, what would it be? https://t.co/gQ4p87rZNh
Hello! First time here - question: how do you encourage T's to promote digital literacy outside the ELA classroom?
Hi! That was a really busy day :) Hope you enjoyed it
everyone meets here. Or at least they pass through on their way to Boston or New York. ;)
why not do pen pals across your schools? Group them across schools to keep convo going
Do you think it would be ok for 3rd graders?
unlimited budget just for my school
they are the publishers of Make magazine - their kits are great - but need rasberry pi 3
I'll have to check that out too! Need ideas for k students
try - they have great kits and have lots of resources to help as well
Is the role of changing in up- coming assessments?
I have only used Google Docs... don't have as much access to iPads
have every student with his/her own device.
I am the library media specialist ...
I'd also wish for every S to be mentally healthy & happy!
Yes but can be pricey. I do like how simple it is. My district isn't sure if they will pay for it yet.
Getting a new principal next year. First time P too.
digital literacy should be taught in ALL classes not just ELA
you did an edu Ham radio chat - awesome! :)
What are some of your favorite tech tools, sites, & apps for the classroom? Question posed to me by admin
Why are they separate? Do you think this helps or hinders?
me too, this will be my 12 or 13th new principal. We are also getting a new vice principal.
hopefully that'll mean new fresh ideas!
Gotta run - MANY thanks for answering my questions!
Is there a hierarchy? Is one placed over the other?
Ok, this dude has a page for everything. 😉
Thanks for showing some ❤️ for the CT River Valley! https://t.co/SRwTo2FvtV
OK new Q - someone explaint ot me what is - I get escape rooms, but how does it work?
I was there with family that lives is SW CT. :-)
This will be my 3rd. I'm in 2 buildings .
yes! We being with letter recognition in kinder with our Ss
The mix of hiphop and "musical" is effective!
I hope so. New ideas are good.
Being a ham myself. would love to hear more about your chat! https://t.co/Ruc0hWcpRZ
I know there are some out there. We did an chat before, and others were sharing.
even though ;) I really think Algebra Touch on the iPad is a very nice app.
geoboards, 10s frames, # lines & base 10 apps! math online https://t.co/o2H4qVH2Tq
What are some of your favorite tech tools, sites, & apps for the classroom? Question posed to me by admin
Didn't realize that there was a fee. Sorry.
Active problem solving with time limit. How testing should be ;) think murder mystery.
so different than when I was growing up, principals lasted a lot longer back then (maybe it's me ;)
All of our teachers try to incorporate digital literacy. They teach it especially as they teach internet research.
Good thought I think & talk about that with comments and posts in Amplify.
I think keyboarding is a very important skill! Grateful to mom for making me taking typing in summer school.
they also have an iPad app
it definitely should be, but I've found its not; I teach LA, but trying to brainstorm ways to help T's in my building
I am curious about this too!
family was in Falmouth every summer growing up. My nearly 94 yo grandmother's still there.
I like desmos. The dragonbox app. My 6th grade math Ts loved using Formative during lessons
How are you using them now?
They're separate so there is clear curriculum focus with tech as a tool on 1 side, and focus on the tech on other.
digital literacy needs to be ubiquitous with all other learning at this point.
Front row is one that my own enjoy at home
me too! Best skill I learned in middle school!
is great for Twitter newbies! has calendar of Twitter chats.
Jennifer so glad you could join us! .
Starting w reviewing attempts at integration. Hoping grade level chats spark deeper practice https://t.co/xThiVqXq6h
works like magic! We did a 7 minute challenge about our school and staff at our last PD of the year.
It depends on the principal, TBH.
most Ss don't really type on a physical keyboard. Keyboarding going the way of cursive?
Might have guessed it would be to throw the wrong kind of ham out there.
My nugget just brought home a certificate from Typing Master that she types 5 wpm, lol.
My Q: summer for Ts is for relaxation & reflection. Do Ts REALLY want to do summer learning, or is it survival for re-entry?:)
Hiphop is effective in many styles and disciplines.
How about starting with your librarian/media specialist?
QN5 when can we have an American ninja warrior challenge for Edtech?
But thankfully, no glitter on it! This time.
That's awesome that they do that! We're working on it in my building
Administrative turnover is a topic that I find intriguing when I really think about it. Where do they go? And why do they leave?
I'm helping with a breakout edu session for our local GEG this summer. Maybe there is one near you too! https://t.co/zQZXVhN4p5
OK new Q - someone explaint ot me what is - I get escape rooms, but how does it work?
Depends on the teacher and the situation, I think! What do you think?
It has the appeal- and is a good vehicle for a serious message
you have to find projects that interest the students to expand upon the concepts you teach
have had Ts set up discussions online about content taught. Forces Ss online and learn diff platforms i.e.
I'm so grateful to my parents who insisted I take typing in summer school. What a godsend!
Thanks . Jumping in w my tribe at . Last chat of the year = reflection & . You don't need the secret handshake
Negative Ghost Rider, the pattern is full. :)
I think there's a balance; more time to explore & read & relax/rejuvenate
Definitely need good keyboarding skills in order to moderate chats!
Finished in service where modeling exer were executed using TI84, 15-16 saw S's coming out of alg1 not knowing y=
is there a director of curriculum? How do you feel about the statement " is today"?
like escape but the clues open locks on a box. I led a session at the GAFE summitt it was great.
I know sometimes I'm ambitious, but then become a lump. Wondered if realistic--or if I should let Ts relax in peace.
keyboarding is essential... thankful for my teachers
how did you create it - is there a script to follow? how can you get started?
I teach 1st grade they love Sushi monster on IPad
I'll have to check it out!
Not until I've been to the taco bar!
why not have one in Denver at ISTE?
I think there is a happy medium in there somewhere! R&R is important, but also professional growth.
If only we had PD that's the equivalent of light beach reading...and it also reminded you when to turn over!
they still type on keyboards - just not the ones we think about first
Administrative turnover is a topic that I find intriguing. Where do they go? And why do they leave?
I'm doing sessions of with all the district principals and about 300 teachers over 4 days.
Each subject and core area has a specialist that oversees curriculum development and deployment.
For me, I would ❤️❤️❤️ to collaborate on a PL sesh for Ts on modeling & integrating , plagiarism https://t.co/NO0MDk02fn
If you could collaborate with your library media specialist in any ONE lesson, what would it entail?
I think it's a difficult job nowadays. So many competing priorities.
is one of my favorite calcs.
I taught at my current school for two years before becoming the principal.
Mine retired after being principal at this building for 12 years. In district for 30.
why does relaxation & reflection not lead to passionate research and re-invention of curricula by mid summer?
Google Educator Group. I learned about them after getting Google Educator Certified. I recommend it!
It may have had something to do with 1100 Ss in a 900 Ss building Among many reasons.
Just catch what you can and don't stress about it. moves pretty fast and that's ok :)
Just catch what you can and don't stress about it. moves pretty fast and that's ok :)
is it from above or below that causes change
what would the course look like?
An object at rest tends to stay at rest
Yep :) And good speed reading skills!
think it depends on the T.
Relax in peas. Most of us here drive ourselves hard enough.
Thanks for allowing me to chat. Bye.
Hello friend. I would love to collaborate as well. I can show you what I currently use esp my book by
Agree. Vacations are fabulous but I can't sit still for long :)
If the recharge was rejuvenating to remind you why you <3 it, yes. If you barely relax, hard to be passionate.
thanks for spending time with us.
We made our own Twitter-chat! Would ❤️ to see more use of LMS for on-demand, as needed PD https://t.co/YA2giE9oGq
What are some ways to engage Ts through online PD and resources?
I think that depends on the teacher
"That page doesn't exist", now I'm truly intrigued
What's the best way to follow if you can't be there? Just follow the hashtag or is there another resource?
me neither; after a few weeks I need to start planning & brainstorming
So...kinda scaffold a range of PD options, sounds like. Light to heavy, pick your poison!
Because we're brain fried and just coming back to normal? We want time for ourselves?
That's OK :) It gets easier with practice, I promise! Just go with the flow. No worries!
If you can't relax, then something is definitely wrong and needs to be fixed.
Yup. That's me when it's Sunday Game of Thrones couch surfing time. :)
QN8 why is so freaking great?
hashtag & check out website for live info ;)
yes the or the for the cool kids... :-(
It was a question on why administrators appear to change jobs so often
Thanks for the chat everyone. Good learning with everyone.
QN9 why is so spectacular?
thanks for letting me join in for a bit. 😊
thanks... tonight I have been reading... Next time I will try to jump in...
QN10 why is slightly below par?
yes; give them choices & tell them to try one thing, I'm not sure you can force it??
So many metaphors...so little time. Some may say it resembles school...in mid-June.
Thanks for the insight on summer PD , need to run! Hope everyone gets to reeaallllllllaaaaaaxxxxxx. :)
Ah, probably as many reasons as admins
that is an option - but I would allow teachers to set goals based on where they want to go as well
That's OK! Lurking is learning, but don't be afraid to participate! Your voice matters :)
He just IS!!!!!! JUST IS!!!!!
time for ourselves is great - but relaxation and rejuvenation should lead to re-invention not retrenching
definitely a range across content & skills :)
Same with why the job gets turned over... People always believe the next will be the great fix
Any foreign language T's on
We have our own summer slowchat. Also setting up PD through Schoology so Ts use the tools we want them to use w/Ss
Agree on differentiated PD. It's really more time mgmnt--how many things do I need to make? :)
That's a great point Alex! Growth isn't optional :)
is usually here and she is.
I'd say about 5-6 options to explore and/or research; maybe in a Google Doc?
oooh, good idea. Like a library to dip into when you felt like coming back for a new book. . Thx!
love this quote, and it’s so true. PD shouldn’t be one size fits all; should be a model for the classroom
I don't mind some PD in the summer but we do so much during the year.
exactly!! And you're welcome :)
Hoping to try a PD choice board next year with Ts, based on low-high levels of effort, integration https://t.co/6V0QgHH8T4
So...kinda scaffold a range of PD options, sounds like. Light to heavy, pick your poison!
thanks! I really think this type of PD is imp for Ts; best way to grow & develop!
people are so smart and helpful! Thankful for this group <3
My thoughts on STEAM/STEAM/STREAM - It's this millennium's enriched bread.
This is how we are running some district training this summer. The teachers like this way as well.
That's how we set up tech play dates. Something for everyone to learn and grow rather than the same for all.
QN12 tacos? I love 'em. Not a question, just a statement.
I've done this too; it's fantastic w/ Ss & Ts
Anyone have experience using Makey Makey for STEM projects?Thinking about writing a grant for it.
Una pregunta excelente :) Tiene Ud. preguntas por el grupo?
yes, hate to miss, but enjoying traveld frm , back to chat nxt wk
are you my ? She makes me better
I think it's this millenium's stuffed crust pizza.
Love the idea of tech play dates!
Yes, we have a slow chat going on as well + PD through , but would like to see it better leveraged
Um, I do have Professional Hypewoman in my bio. Have I not hyped you up?
Excelente! Nos alegramos de que estés aquí!
I'm thinking the multi-colored reptile may appreciate "the law of 2 (or 4?) feet". : )
So if has a taco bar at our ribbon cutting & grand opening, you're going to be there, right?
Funny you ask... meeting next week to create some lessons w/ MM and Scratch
ok why is Kory so glitterific?
my concern about doing more is: when will schools decide not to provide us more resources b/c we are fine ....
Choice work for Ss, why not Ts? model is great!
The water's fine. Please jump in. We want to learn from you too.
Always love having you join us, my friend :0) Will you be at ISTE?
It's her cape..I think she lets her little one wear it when she competes.
hoping our librarian will go nuts with your page, great site!
That's where the idea came from - what did I do w/Ss that I could now modify for Ts?
I haven't experienced much chatting tonight
Kory is great because she keeps Nathan is the real world.
Mark your calendar! July 27th at 5PM in Brandon, FL.
❤️ the idea of Twitter PD. Did you get buy in from T’s, or is it more of an optional if you want to?
YES. even love the rule of 2 feet.
Great- that's what I do. Need to explore function of more.
Hi Angela! is here every Monday at 8pmET/ 5 pm PT! Tonight was style but more traditional format next week.
Remind me next week and I will send you what we come up with.
A great time as always Thank you!
How well has this worked in your classroom?
Makey Makeys are awesome! can share her experiences!
Optional & district-wide. Have to really leverage relationships to create teacher buy-in
Thank you new followers from tonight! Can't wait to share, collaborate & learn more with you all!
BTW - how do you get images in your tweet? Is at an option on only certain devices?
