Hello. My name is Susan, and I am a student teacher from IL planning to write a book in the future. I am inspired by @jaycpercell. He is a professor who really stands out to me in a positive way and always supported me. #eduAR

I love the intro to this chat. I hope my spirit inspires others. @KerryYandel just emailed me last night that she is always humbled by the beauty of my spirit which I share so openly. It made my day. #eduAR
Rich Hayzler, MS Principal fro NJ. There are so many that I admire but I want to thank @Rigor_Relevance for spreading the power of education through @DisruptedTv#eduar
A1. The strategy I use is talking with students. Sometimes as adults we see things differently than our Ss. Talking with them puts everything in perspective. #eduar
A1 Try to wake up each morning with a grateful heart. Counting your blessings starts off your day in a positive way. #eduar Morning routines- read, reflect, write, exercise
A1 I always try to see the good in others. There is so much negativity in the world, I want to put more kindness and joy out there. I try not to participate in the negative banter and focus on putting smiles. There is always a silver lining. Find the sun! #eduAR
A1: Be empathetic and be compassionate. Developing positive relationships with students and staff built on trust, honesty and support definitely helps overcome challenges and help see "the good" that is out there. #eduar
A1: I just always try to remember that every situation/person has layers that are not visible. You just never know what is hidden underneath it all. #eduar
A1.) not really a strategy more a mindset of finding the humor in situations and focusing on the positive aspects of difficult situations...reminding people of the time and persistence it takes to impact our Ss #EduAR

A.1 I try to start the school day fresh each morning with my students by greeting them at the door with a smile. Even if the day before was a rough one.. I'm smiling at them the next day to start fresh. #EduAR
A1 We are a @TheLeaderinMe school and all I can think after seeing so many comments is that we must seek first to understand our students and be proactive in building strong, real relationships #eduAR
A1: I try to interact with as many students as possible in the morning as they enter for the day. Say each name as I say good morning. Be sure to connect with those Ss who seem sad or upset. Try to start each day on a positive note each day for each student
#EduAR
A1: I believe that there can be something good in every situation!! I look for growth, improvement, progress and learn from the struggles, don’t dwell on them. Celebrate the good... and focus on that!! #EduAR
A2 People always think there is an alterior motive. Sometimes you need to go against popular waves and you feel alone. You always need to stick to your gut. Stay the course. When doing something right, don’t be influenced by the opposite. #eduAR
A2) Seems like sometimes you’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Someone will always find fault in what I do, but if I keep kids at the core of what I do, I know we’re moving the right way #eduAR
A2) Seems like sometimes you’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Someone will always find fault in what I do, but if I keep kids at the core of what I do, I know we’re moving the right way #eduAR
A2: As a student teacher taking risks and trying new things, I feel like sometimes my peers do not fully understand my purpose. I go on Twitter and try to improve because I want to #betheone for my students. I try my best to be humble, but fear of criticism is real. #eduar
A2: Sometimes doing something right means making tough decisions that not everyone understands. Being transparent and "walking the talk" is important in doing the right thing, even though it may be the tough thing. #eduar
A2 The right thing isn't always the easy thing. People may not see your side at first. If you always do what you believe in, people begin to understand. Culture can be a hard thing to change. #eduar
Totally agree. Sometimes I get so fixated on pushing or pulling the train that I forget who is on board with me and do a bad job of blocking out the dissenting voices #EduAR
A2) Agreed; especially if it’s a grade-level change or a change in leadership. But often the shake-up is the catalyst that gets people to find greatness. #EduAR
A2: It’s always hard to do what we THINK is right when others see it as wrong. Unless it’s a law or a moral issue, being “right” is often just an opinion and from one’s own perspective. #EduAR
A2: Not everyone celebrates in your success! I’ve learned to “Just Do You!” You can’t please everyone & they shouldn’t be who you’re focused on... it’s all about your Ss!! I give my all because they deserve it!! #EduAR
Totally agree. Sometimes I get so fixated on pushing or pulling the train that I forget who is on board with me and do a bad job of blocking out the dissenting voices #EduAR
I bet there are other people that agree with those decisions because you base your decisions with the best interest of kids in mind-- they need courage to speak up! #eduar

A2: Years ago I was ostracized by some faculty for backing a plan to give more Ss opportunities to get enough credits for graduation...would do it again if it helped Ss #EduAR

A3. Start with reflection and a little workout. I love being a connected educator that connects with peers from all over the country that are positive. Usually how I start the drive to work. #eduar
A3 It may sound silly, but simply telling myself that it’s going to be an awesome day. I try to smile and greet others with more enthusiasm than they greet me and it sets me up for a good day. Overwhelm everyone with happiness. #eduAR
A2: Sometimes from the outside what we do looks wrong and I get questioned, but I love explaining what we are doing and why so I welcome the questions. It is when ppl don't ask questions and just assume that things can go wrong.
#EduAR
A3. Howdy #eduAR from Barbara, school counselor in TX. THIS is what I do every morning, to put me in the right frame of mind. We gather and sing You Are My Sunshine to each other. It's the BEST way to start the day. https://t.co/CKD5Pz8Ehj
I love that Mark! I listen to music to put in the right state of mind- different music depending on the "experiences" that I've planned for the kids :) #eduAR
A3 I say my mantra every morning "Change the world. One starfish at a time" I have told myself it enough that I believe it. https://t.co/lMDFuQgXSA#eduar
A3: I'm a putzer, I like to take an hour or more when I get up in the morninf to check FB, Instigram and Twitter. I also play (addicted to) on line Yahtzee, & a couple of flow games. But doing this gets my mind and body in a good place. #eduar
It’s an area I’m growing to work with others in. Not everyone feels the same way I do and therefore doesn’t feel the same way about the conflict. 😂#EduAR
A3: Reflect on the previous day as I drive to school. What could I have done differently? What worked out well? Oh, and I also jam to my favorite tunes! This morning was AC/DC. Don’t judge. 😉#eduar
A1: Seeing good where others might not takes an open mind & an open heart. We all have a story and for some whose stories have made them sad or troubled one just have to look a little harder and be a little softer in order to see the good more clearly. #EduAR
A3: I’m an early riser!! I like that quiet time in the morning to reflect, listen to music & gear up for the day!! I often have a little pep w/ God on the way to school to put myself in the right frame of mind! #EduAR
Agree. It’s the path of least resistance. Growth hurts at times, literally. We limit our potential when we don’t allow ourselves to be vulnerable and broken at times. #EduAR
A3: Music is my thing to get my mind set right for the day. If I need a big pick me up it is @Meghan_Trainor in the car on the way to work while I dance and sing in my car. Then I put it on the big screen as the Ss enter so they can start their day right also
#EduAR
A3 I start each day with my coffee and by sharing a positive/kind thought of the day on Twitter. It helps put me in the right mindset for the day. I know I can do anything. Cannot imagine doing it any other way. #eduAR
A4: I think that my strength is the ability to choose joy, to be grateful, to find blessings even in the burdens. There's always a reframe, a new way to think about something, to look at it. Find the joy in every step of the journey. #EduAR
A4: thus year has been particularly difficult. I have gained the knowledge that I have more to give through the struggle of the year. I'm working to figure out just exactly how to help bring it about.#eduar
A4 all struggles are dependent on our mindset & our situations-Things happen both good & bad-how we learn & move forward is key-I've learned nothing is permanent & my struggles hardly qualify compared to others #eduAR
I view struggles as opportunities to grow- All that I am, I am because I've learned how to climb, jump, go around, and right through the wall blocking my way! I'm stronger because of others encouraging and investing in me! #eduar
A4: I have discovered that I never give up. I keep trying and trying until I get the results I was looking for. I have discovered that I have to look at situations from a different angles sometimes, but I don't give up
#EduAR
A4) I know it sounds dramatic, but having MS has taught me a lot about tenacity and that you get to decide what sort of example you are to others who struggle. #EduAR
A4: I’ve found my voice!!! I’m so used to advocating and supporting others but don’t always stand up for myself! I had to decide that I was worth it!! I’m a stronger person because of that struggle!! #EduAR
A4: one of my hard kids was suspended this week and I’m worried that I won’t see him until after spring break. I may have to make a quick stop to see him tomorrow. I have discovered that my struggling kiddos are my HEART! ❤️#eduar
That statement has actually helped me through many tough days! Thinking "this time tomorrow this will all be behind me" is so helpful. One day at a time! You're stronger than you believe. #eduAR
A3) I count my blessings that I was given the opportunity to wake up another morning and strive to walk in my purpose 😁 That instantly puts a smile on my face 😁 #EduAr
A4) I know it sounds dramatic, but having MS has taught me a lot about tenacity and that you get to decide what sort of example you are to others who struggle. #EduAR
A4 I am not only persistent. I am resilient. I have been put down/broken down before but I always come out stronger. I would not be the person I am without my struggles, my friends, my heart. I can face anything. No limits. #eduAR
A4: In my life I've learned that struggles are opportunities to grow..in faith, in career, in relationships, in life. Doesn't make struggling easy, but does give me hope which helps me push through. #EduAR
A5: Being hit head-on by a drunk driver was by far the most difficult thing to ever happen to me. I learned I had to forgive to move forward and fully heal and that JOY is a choice, even in really dark times. #EduAR
A5: I have survived giving up on teaching. I quit. I was done. But @nortnik gave me a chance and I have a renewed, stronger love for this profession than ever before. #eduar
A5) Made it through a heart scare in early December with my first ever overnight in a hospital. Thankfully, my heart is healthy and I'm getting better! Leaned on my husband, Kip. #EduAR
A5) My wife, my friends and my colleagues. Our counselor also does a great job being my counselor at times. Sometimes I need social work minutes in my day #eduAR
A5. Personnel issues are always tough for me. I know I have high expectations for my staff. I try to lean on my PLN to run ideas past, but sometimes it is just tough. #eduar
A5 I was faced with being beaten down, torn apart by people I trusted. I was more than lucky to have friends who always knew how to uplift me, when to check in on me and how to make me smile. Thank you @MrCoachEli@bmilla84@lauriesmcintosh for being amazing lights to me. #eduAR
A5) My wife, my friends and my colleagues. Our counselor also does a great job being my counselor at times. Sometimes I need social work minutes in my day #eduAR
A5: this year i have leaned on my teammates @aprylthompson & @flag4lifecom for so much support professionally, personally and spiritually. They are a bright ligfht for me.#eduAR
A5 Dealing with students in truma is always tough but its all about my wife of almost 30 years @AMDicksonNV my best friend & a kick ass admin who mentors me #eduAR
A5: I have survived giving up on teaching. I quit. I was done. But @nortnik gave me a chance and I have a renewed, stronger love for this profession than ever before. #eduar
A5: Going through it now. After 42 years of teaching multi-age, my middle school is going to grade leveling. Sad to lose that long relationship piece when those are so important. Our staff has had to lean on each other this past week
#EduAR
I struggled passing the Indiana math teacher license exam and had to take it multiple times. It made me feel like a failure over and over again. I almost changed careers. My husband and my 5th grade teacher were my strength that helped me pass. ☺️#EduAR
Family- and that includes my PLN family! And....I just have to say that my dog can put a smile on my face faster than anyone! We love those walks in the park! #eduAR
A6: So many ways to rest and restore: prayer, knitting, yoga, baking, writing, lying by the pool, visiting with friends, long walks, playing piano or just listening to piano music, reading, journaling, meditating, forest bathing, swimming. #eduAR
A6 When I need uplifting I turn to some relaxing tv shows, some gym time and turning to my friends for moral support. I am blessed to have amazing friends who are always there for me. #eduAR
A3) I workout every morning before work: swim, strength training, and sometimes cardio machines. Endorphins released and day is jumpstarted.
#eduAR#EducatorsGrow
A6) My first is the counsel of my wife...works in the mental health field and the reason I am who I am today....second is my Student Success Team...amazing group of professionals who support my work and understand my passion for impacting our Ss. #EduAR
A4) Do not complain for something that you asked for. Remember, there is another side to what you wanted that exists outside of the image in your mind. #EduAr
A6: I connect with “My People” when I need uplifting!! Thankful for @GuysBride@lauriesmcintosh & @NowakRo for being people I can always count on to bring some joy into my life!! #EduAR
A5 Great thread! Sorry, I just stumbled on this chat. My hardest battles were 3 times with cancer. My family and my coworkers walked me and loved me through them all and the surgeries that went with it. #eduAR
A6: Depends on where I'm at or who I'm with. There's certainly comfort to be found in family, friends and colleagues both near and far. I feel blessed to be surrounded by so many people who provide uplifting support. #EduAr
A6 When I need uplifting, I run. I have a dance party. I cruise Pinterest for positive quotes. I watch Ted talks. I laugh. Life's too short to be anything but positive. #eduar
A6 The beach. Something about the sound, the water washing up and pulling back, the sand tumbling along, and not to mention all the things I find washed up. Takes my mind away ever since I was a little kid. #eduAR
A6: I go to Hogwarts when I need to feel better...triumph through struggle and leaning on friends...If only they needed a math teacher...I look good in a robe #EduAR
A6 At school, it's recess, lunch, or any classroom visit. Outside of school it's a run, a round of golf, or a night out with my wife and daughter. #EduAR
A2) I've learned grit! Nothing pushes me further than overhearing people say it can't be done. I'll find a way to fail forward.

I actually just sent a positive thank you email to someone that I look up to and who has been on my mind. I've learned to always follow through with little promptings- you never know... #eduAR
