----------
That sounds a little frightening.

I also wrote on my classroom door (w/chalk) "I'm reading...What are you reading?" Kids could add their books.
A1: follow interesting ppl & ask qs about different ways to do things. Then I dive in head first & have my Ss learn with me

I love this idea. I have a whiteboard outside my room begging for a better purpose.
LOVE ! We are buying a few more kits just so more classes can have fun with these awesome tools!
this shows a great side of teachers. Not only do we teach, but we're actually kinda interesting.
If I had been in the ClassRM this past yr - I would have added strategies from Chats like this.
A1) professionally I read & write blogs to feed my curiosity! Personally I read & watch ! All about balance!
I really wanted ALL the teachers to do this to show Ss that everyone reads!

A1: books, articles, blogs, conferences, & recently Twitter. Share w/Ts & Ss through books, links, & plan to start news broadcast
we call that thanks for cluing me in!
Even littler ones than 4th have used breakout EDU
https://t.co/qOMURa8KSD
Are these appropriate for 4th gr? Or geared more for older Ss and adults?
We offer tinker time every day during lunch and twice a week after school.
Absolutely! You can even cater the adventures for kindergartners!
what is up Todd?? Excited to be jumpin on for a few minutes. Can't fall asleep. :)
Share what I am reading on & encourage scholars to participate in our book club!
The word curious (or curiosity) can be interpreted a number of ways. Put on your thinking caps for Q2, coming right up...
I told Ss about the books I loved and the ones I didn't! They were surprised I didn't like some books.
A1: Some Ss can be afraid of asking questions, but I'll ask colleagues questions in front of my students.
A1: My method: I read first. Then I think how can I relate it to some simple concepts I already know and remember. Note it down!
absolutely. No reason not to do it with adults, either.
KWL😬🍎 iDo the same. Sometimes just for fun to see if I'm "right"🙃
So cool. I need to try it!
The could have buddies too
https://t.co/I4V7arbg2d
Absolutely! You can even cater the adventures for kindergartners!
A1: My wife wants to know if anyone can turn off my curiousity? LOL
-----
Q2: Compare & contrast “Curiosity” to any of the following concepts:
Fun
Engaging
Real-world
Relevant
Entertaining
-----
A1 I read a ton on different things I find online. I share weird things I read with Ss to get them talking.
A little late joining . Beginning my first year as MS Principal.
Josie from Arcadia, CA. Teach 4th grade! Gotta love having kids in bed by 8!
A2) Curiosity about the world around them (students) makes learning relevant.
A1: I believe curiosity is a prerequisite for engagement - we must build curiosity w/i our ss if we want engaged learners.
A2 I'd say curiosity relates to "entertaining" in the sense that curious folks find their own entertainment - anywhere.
A2: For sure curiosity is only the result of relevance, if I don't care, I'm not investigating, and neither will students
Exactly what I hope for boys after they return
A1. To feed curiosity: read books, blogs, articles...try to get out of the house, too! Have books talks w/ my Ss.
iHave to 🚙 to get Dinner so I can eat "with you" all.
So important to model curiosity for Ss. Learning doesn't stop for adults https://t.co/ATsqccHysS
A1: Some Ss can be afraid of asking questions, but I'll ask colleagues questions in front of my students.
Good point
https://t.co/Djl0159wwM
A2: For sure curiosity is only the result of relevance, if I don't care, I'm not investigating, and neither will students
Sign up to a July 30th workshop, July 30 in Redwood City CA, Integrating Coding into Your Classroom https://t.co/8pbWbtv4jg
Never heard of this! Will be looking into it.
A1: my curiousity stems from challenging main stream or conventional thinking I.e. investing in w/o sufficient
same thing! I tried to read Pride & Prejudice in May and didn't like it. I had many many convos about not liking it
And really, they are curious about so much that is NOT in the textbook. There are many different avenues.
A2: Curiosity helps you stay in tune with the real world, ultimately it should help you become a question asker & problem finder
There's a thriving Facebook group . just was appointed CEO too
https://t.co/9zw4x4N7VA
Never heard of this! Will be looking into it.
A2: Curiosity & engaging go hand in hand..if one doesn’t feel actively engaged, the curiosity level plummets.
A2: This reminds me, I saw a district mission that had the phrase "curious, capable learners" we need more of that
A2: Curiosity lends to questions which lends itself to Ss getting engaged in researching answers. Lots of discussions among Ss.
A2- I think curiosity can often be the impetus for active engagement. Curiosity is often at the core of a passion project!
Q2 lack of curiosity=disengagement where curiosity=engagement so always looking to entice my Ss curiosity on the topic of the day
Curiosity is engaging, Ss will go the extra mile for something that interests them
So much fun for kids and staff! We are planning an entire staff meeting using a game!
Love this. Model, model, model.
yes yes yes! curiosity= relevance for ss
A2: Curiosity can be fun, engaging, real-world, relevant and entertaining. hopefully you can harness that into learning
A1. Also tell Ss about classes I'm taking; books I read professionally and for pleasure. Share local, state, national, world news.
So true! Folks then get others interested and then it becomes a party!
A2: curiosity feeds into...Fun, engaging, real-world, relevant, etc. important for students and adults
A2: If I'm curious, I'm engaged.
Is this the prob. w/ stagnant Ts? They’ve lost curiosity? Hmmm…
A2: Curiosity is getting someone to think about a topic.
Chasing "fun" can lead to stripping away the inquisitive nature.
A2: curiousity is synonomous w/engagement. Ss are motivated by their own curiousity, not simply adding or an app
really appreciated their emphasis on low-res design, focus on skills not products
A2: Curiosity leads to fun, creates engagement, and enhances relevance for both teachers and ss.
A2 Curiousity is the engine for the real-world lifelong learning that is necessary for contemporary adulting.
A2most definitely, the skill is in knowing your learners
A2: Ss will be engaged if they're curious! Ts can loosen control to let Ss drive their learrning (still learning how to do this!)
showing even adults don't know it all is a great way to get their inquisitive minds working, and not shy away from Qs
Curiosity coincides with relevance for my students, most often it's diff. to inspire curiosity without some degree of relevance
A2 If your curious, you're never bored!
From experience, I would say most of the time.
A2: Curiosity&Engaging stimulates, awakens,&creativity - Curiosity is inspiring/ Engaging is acting on the inspiration
A2: Curiosity is needed for all. Authentic problems our Ss need to solve will require an interest in solving.
A2:Curiosity coincides with relevance for my students, most often it's diff. to inspire curiosity without some degree of relevance
joint in reading the feed.
A2. Curiosity = seeking, Fun = finding
Curiosity = all of the above+thrilling.= your mind's ambition propelling towards a target, then asking what's next?
Agree that curiosity is driver and others naturally follow https://t.co/2oaakl59kT
A2: Curiosity can be fun, engaging, real-world, relevant and entertaining. hopefully you can harness that into learning
A2: Curiosity leads to questions...
Questions lead to exploration
Exploration leads to excitement
Excitement leads to passion...
Neal, love this idea can you expand?
A2: If I am curious, it becomes relevant. It doesn't get more authentic than that.
A2: Curiosity kindles the flame, real-world lessons ignite the fire.
yes! sometimes we need to explore how tools help us, thats why i love snapchat & my focus is on how it can help Ts
A2. Curiosity--there is an unknown. Something to be discovered. It can be relevant/ real world, but not always;Definitely engaging
Hopefully not too late to join! Kristi from Texas
we bought 8 kits so we can use them on the day one and then make them available for Chk out. https://t.co/TV1LlgiuG0
So much fun for kids and staff! We are planning an entire staff meeting using a game!
I read Stargirl (jerry spinelli) and loved it, tried Wringer and hated it! Yes to convos about it.
A2: Curiosity = all of the above+thrilling.= your mind's ambition propelling towards a target,then asking what's next?
RedLight🙆🏻
I'm certain the Curiosity Ts have
🤔rubs off on the Ss👫👬👭
A2: curiosity + the conditions for powerful learning = teachers need to get out of the way of learning https://t.co/s0SEyI4wfK
I agree! It's hard to trust that Ss will drive their own learning. I make them reflect to show they did something.
So true, but engagement doesn't always mean curiosity-mere participation doesn't always foster passionate learning
A2 excitement! Also leads to igniting passion and excitement in others
That is one heck of a statement. And soooooo true.
https://t.co/B6YjbpBMIS
A2: If I am curious, it becomes relevant. It doesn't get more authentic than that.
do we need professional freedom to be curious? What about our personal sense of curiosity?
It's like the circle of life...I can almost hear The Lion King playing in the background! https://t.co/4mdgYCCBqT
Passion leads to curiosity.
": A2. Curiosity = seeking, Fun = finding"
A2: is the engine that moves us forward because of the , , & adventure!
Relevant and real-world are important and missed by our Ss in HS where it should be font and center. https://t.co/9kF0d1L59s
A2: curiosity feeds into...Fun, engaging, real-world, relevant, etc. important for students and adults
! https://t.co/Z90pdI0oRY
A2: Curiosity leads to questions...
Questions lead to exploration
Exploration leads to excitement
Excitement leads to passion...
I could stop right there after Q2, but why stop a good thing? Let's get deeper into the topic of curiosity.
Ryan, Public Information Officer at . My first . I've heard great things!
-----
Q3: How does your content area (or current role) promote/encourage student curiosity?
-----
I haven't tried that yet, but it was recommended to me. Sounds good.
A2: curiosity is the conductor of all wonderful things!
Awesome! Many resources for extra challenges! Escape Classroom is another resource for more adventures! https://t.co/fXgIHJGT56
we bought 8 kits so we can use them on the day one and then make them available for Chk out. https://t.co/TV1LlgiuG0

A2 : The words r synonymous to playing your favourite 'game' and curiosity is what drive games.Thinking Gamification of Education
A3. I run a makerspace. It's all about encountering and satisfying curiousity.
Greg Gazanian, Assistant Director of Technology for
With science.. It's easy to promote curiosity through POE model. Math however, I struggle so suggestions are appreciated!
A3: Engaging Ss and Ts in as much technology as possible. Including blogging, twitter, snapchat, google +, etc
A3: work alongside Ts to explore new ideas for Ss. Begin with, “How might we…” then magic happens https://t.co/WdSzXYro5r
A2 empowered curiosity leads to self-fullfillment.We need Ss that believe their ideas matter to become adults that value curiosity
A2. As curiosity peaks excitement it will be entertaining to jump in, but then the hard part starts and research isn't always fun
A3: Mathematics is built on pillars of curiosity. By its mere existence, math encourages anyone who engages with it to explore.
A3: Science is built on curiosity, I love when my Ss ask crazy Qs and we go off and research or tinker and "find" As or more Qs
A3: Public speaking is about sharing your story. Ss are curious about how to do this without dying. Ha. https://t.co/SlDuLf7erY
-----
Q3: How does your content area (or current role) promote/encourage student curiosity?
-----
A3: In my role I have tried to encourage more unique scholar engagement at to enhance the educational experience.
A3: As a site leader...I try to walk the walk...share my own curiosity and my own adventures in learning...hope it rubs off!
A3 Sadly, math has not always equalled curiosity. I just got some help from a little book...
Never led a before--do you recommend it? What works well?
A3. I teach in a self-contained classroom--so integrate subjects all day. Draw Ss in w/ real-world issues, probs, high-quality lit
maybe... i guess i think everything just comes down to choice and what you value
A3: I was kind of sucked into the math world. Hated it as a student because of a lack of curiosity and relevance to me...
A3: Since I get to work on the curiosity is par for the course, but only in tandem with open-ended learning
A3- As an edu leader, I see my role as the person who removes barriers & gives our kids access to whatever they need to learn!
Perfect opportunity for Genius Hour
https://t.co/0fUl17tnQ6
And really, they are curious about so much that is NOT in the textbook. There are many different avenues.
. hey, I've heard of ! Thanks for the kind shout out, Christy.
wish i had had you as a math teacher!
A3-Encouraging Ss to take risks, even if they fail, open ended Qs and Projects, Ss choice, not giving them "my "answer.
well that's like putting in a cheat code for this question, Mark. How could us non-makerspace operators do this?
Great book! All math teachers need to read it!
excellent point with the research part, do we have the skills to see our ideas through
Always searching, learning, self-disrupting. Created a leadership module based entirely on curiosity as a leadership skill-set.
I think, though, we need to encourage & give time for Ts to be curious about their craft
ha! Thanks, Sabba, although I've had some significant speed bumps along the way.
our students had a blast. Incorporates all elements while engaging students in their passions!
A3) Elementary school is perfect to be able to promote curiosity? They're at a perfect age!
They have lots of interests
A3: As a Public Information Officer, we do a lot of engagement thru social media. A great way to showcase our students & teachers.
A3: Critical thinking-Creating board games based on standards, student-led conf., philosophical chairs, Ss expand on their ?s

A3: As a Sped T, I have 2 be creative 2 adjust 4 Ss multiple learning styles & inst. delivery methods 2 inspire a bit of curiosity
A3: As principal, I work hard to provide as many opportunities for my Ss & Ts. I try to encourage & model curiosity & passion
A3: 4th graders have opportunities in Genius Hour, Minecraft, Maker Space, and Robotics. I also lead a coding club for Ss!
A3: Math gets so much more interesting when you explore the WHY behind concepts. I like doing those explorations with my Ss.
A1: Love fueling my curiosity through reading, classroom visits and spending any amount of time with our incredible staff
A3: Library is perfect place for inquiry. Inquiry exceeds standards and allows students to explore personal interests
could not agree more. As leaders, we must remove the obstacles and wasted steps that stifle growth and development.
A3: Inquiry collab between teachers and librarians builds content knowledge, info literacy & curiosity
you need to speak with about teaching SWD. You two would get along great.
Any good org sets a top-down example. I've had CEOs of both kinds & lucky to have a Principal & AP that walk the walk
A3: AP here, if I can support and push teachers' curiosity then it will begin to impact Ss in the classroom. What is each T's
Sometimes I wonder if there are Ts out there that never had any real curiosity to begin with.
A3 My content is EVERYTHING! Promoting curiosity is my daily agenda https://t.co/gPJyVLUr2O
-----
Q3: How does your content area (or current role) promote/encourage student curiosity?
-----
focus on process not product, using a DT approach develop empathy & ideas. doesnt have to be fancy :)
A3- project based learning, passion projects, steam lab, genius hour, student choice!
We must keep that curiosity blooming through secondary grades too! https://t.co/fmvshHf5Pk
A3) Elementary school is perfect to be able to promote curiosity? They're at a perfect age!
They have lots of interests
wish my school valued the library for this reason. Its been transformed to study space-basically a room w/tables
A3: Using genius hour. Incorporating PBL-Essential!
RedLight🙃
A2: 📺
Mermaid documentary on Discovery. THAT was an interesting 🗣w/1stGr.
I think more of that needs to be encouraged at the Pre-T level from what I've heard.
Did they go into the profession b/c everything was going to be laid out for them? That’s harmful.
I have a hard time making math engaging & fun. Hoping projects help & using real world concepts to get them curious!
Every classroom can be a makerspace. It's about approach, not the space. https://t.co/uZf7m5Fyzu
well that's like putting in a cheat code for this question, Mark. How could us non-makerspace operators do this?
favorite author Seth Godin does a brilliant job of addressing this in Linchpin, check it out
Through to adults too
https://t.co/EnVowiM2Ym
We must keep that curiosity blooming through secondary grades too! https://t.co/fmvshHf5Pk
A3) Elementary school is perfect to be able to promote curiosity? They're at a perfect age!
They have lots of interests
A3: Encourage Curiosity?
It's 1stGr! Next.
more like reining in the unbridled enthusiasm + curiosity.
Agreed, & it has to happen on school time. We’re all here now, but can expect that of all Ts.
. Team up with your Teacher Librarian. S/he will even do most of the work.
Thank you !! It's been a great chat but it's way beyond my bedtime. Night from NYC! :)
Why and How (In That Order) AWESOME! Couldn't agree more
They might have. I wonder about this all the time-hard to know for sure, but there are Ts like that.
Yuck
https://t.co/B8qEg90SkW
Did they go into the profession b/c everything was going to be laid out for them? That’s harmful.
...how many times is that through a worksheet or homework? https://t.co/iv6niQ38zK
A3: Math gets so much more interesting when you explore the WHY behind concepts. I like doing those explorations with my Ss.
It is hard. But buy 2 books- & Making Number Talks Matter to help get started
agreed but we must keep that love of learning by focusing on S's over standards as children continue academic journey.
Time to read Classroom Chef

I have a hard time making math engaging & fun. Hoping projects help & using real world concepts to get them curious!
So true! As a fellow Sped teacher, we have to keep our students curious and engaged.
Right, which goes back to the whole, "How do Ts lose their curiosity?"
it should be something that drives you personally, all about your mindset
thanks, Christy. Josie, we would be more than happy to chat with you via email after the chat if you want
We encourage & reward our students with Badges and Points for thinking deep into a topic and coming up with shortcuts to learn it
A4 -- my lesson ideas are always generic & kids know to be original & show creativity
-----
Q4: In what way does your content area (or current role) lack the promotion of student curiosity?
-----
Yes when we focus on why and how instead of answers and procedures we foster curiosity in math https://t.co/qJamEbvhG4
A3: Math gets so much more interesting when you explore the WHY behind concepts. I like doing those explorations with my Ss.
I feel like this is the book. If you give teacher curiosity
https://t.co/o3mY7CO4mo
Right, which goes back to the whole, "How do Ts lose their curiosity?"
must focus on the HOW can we instead of the WHY we can't.
My new school this fall has all that. I can't wait!
A2: I almost always find curiosity no matter how seemingly arbitrary to become relevent. New ideas and perspectives abound.
A3: As a Lit Consultant, I prioritize encouraging inquiry and its power to fuel and drive learning. https://t.co/KbeeyGsIkV
-----
Q3: How does your content area (or current role) promote/encourage student curiosity?
-----
agreed! great master teachers/mentors are such a key to success
A4: With so much on our plates...it is hard to find time (or space) for curiosity w/o adding even more to an overflowing plate!
agreed my fave quote from Pynchon, "if they get you asking the wrong q's they never have to worry about the answers"
Never! That's why I hate worksheets and homework. It is a fight to get others to see that.
A4: Stereotypical, silent, dusty libraries make students & teachers feel unwelcome and don’t promote curiosity or literacy
A4: ICYMI, math seems to be an easy punching bag. It's something kids see as done to them rather than as a model in curiosity.
A4: my role requires patience. takes time to shift mindset of a prof, just bc I have an idea doesn't mean it always happens :(
A4) At times, old habits hamper student creativity. Need to structure the class to encourage creativity.
A2: I almost always find curiosity no matter how seemingly arbitrary to become relevant. New ideas and perspectives abound.
Hard to be patient sometimes
https://t.co/RakLATQvfO
A4: my role requires patience. takes time to shift mindset of a prof, just bc I have an idea doesn't mean it always happens :(
A4 Many kids hate math because there hasn't been room for curiosity. That HAS to change!!!
On my list! Wish summer was longer so I could get through all these great books!
A4: We could ask more academic & engaging questions through our social media to get Ss and Ts involved & chatting via social media
A4: Working in so many digital options remove curiosity & flexibility for efficiency & linearity paging
agreed, you realize just how difficult it is it help people shift their mindset, worth it though in the end
A4: Too many Ts relying on outdated texts and techniques...makes English SEEM dull and boring. The struggle becomes very real!
A4 - i only have kids for 40 min - often preempted by other school events - so just when creative juices begin, class is over
A4+
It isn't the content itself, but more the perception of what it means to explore mathematics.
Not necessarily. Even in the greatest schools I've worked in,there were still+
Sometimes our own knowledge as educators interferes with recognized possible Ss inquires. Think like Ss https://t.co/UPz17oeA9Y
-----
Q4: In what way does your content area (or current role) lack the promotion of student curiosity?
-----
A4 You pull me back in: Math is a natural for maker engagement. Just try to build with precision without math.
A4: sometimes policies & initiatives get in the way & are overwhelming. Have to stay resourceful, creative, & positive.
As leaders we must continuously revisit what's on that plate and ask how does each item benefit max student progress.
I almost lost my curiosity when I started feeling like my Ss and I were being tested to death. All about the EOC or other test 😢
A4 I'm a student teacher it's known I'm still learning so I can't possibly have the a's. Ss need to know it isn't a bad thing
also realize what a blessing it is to have people who helped you have an open mind & placed value on skill development
you're darn right it's time to read it, Craig!
But really, we look forward to hearing what you think.
A4: Tough to answer; always encourage creative ways to work w/scholars at through academics & extra-curriculars!
Yes. Too often we find ourselves become more and more proficient at providing the right answers to the wrong questions.
A4:The system and those who flourish in its current state demand busy work of many Ts. Forms and policies stifle growth.
+some Ts just not quite as on board as the rest of us. That's when I wonder.
muahahaha. And yes, absolutely.
I agree. Especially when it comes to new tech and they don't care.
couldn't agree more! Experiencing some of "the canon" is important, but it shouldn't be every book for kids
A4: It's sometimes hard to manage a building and staff and make this a priority, but it's essential to make the time
A4 - my campus is still very traditional - so overlaps into classroom is still not always there
A4: The demand of covering everything across content areas & pressure of getting Ss to read on gr level.
A4: some topics can be difficult to be creative with, atomic structure can be kinda hard to be creative with :/
That is the key! Remove what we can & encourage risk-taking and growth! https://t.co/wcMghYD25P
As leaders we must continuously revisit what's on that plate and ask how does each item benefit max student progress.
This is where my patience thins w/ Ts.
A4 1st thought is too much to learn and so little time. Once curiosity starts, the bell rings and that crucial moment is lost.
A4 Lack of things to tinker with limit curiosity access points. I choose to focus on what I do have.
A4: Curiousity and it's cousin Creativity have been MIA from ED for a while. We have to make integrating these less intimidating.
lol love that hashtag, we could have a whole chat around that
A4: has a lot of Ts on Twitter collaborating, would be great if our Ss were in on same chats outside of class!
Yes, but it's so much more than just new tech, it's just plain not curious about much at all.
sorry! design thinking :)
A4. Often it seems that shallow, literal-level questions (on st.tests or in textbooks) thwart curiosity.
A4: When iTaught in PrivateSchool - - there wasn't enough of it. So I Supplemented Heavily w/other Resources. 📲💻💽📼🕹📽🎞
similar to climbing the ladder only to find out it was up against the wrong wall. Must reflect, stay aware.
Curiosity also creates opportunities for improving, sharpening our soft skills and emotional intelligence.
So true! But what if we set staff mtng time to discuss ways to tweak lessons or bring an innovative twist? https://t.co/tl0nzOsk3i
A4: some topics can be difficult to be creative with, atomic structure can be kinda hard to be creative with :/
don't laugh but everyone should take a approach to this Q
It’s the whole mindset and passivity that burns the profession in the public eye.
A4: When I feel the need to use direct instruction for students to learn public speaking because of time. https://t.co/YJuaInKoQW
-----
Q4: In what way does your content area (or current role) lack the promotion of student curiosity?
-----
A4: Old curriculum. I will have to create brand new objectives for my class that uses current technology
here in CJUHSD, teachers like has Ss participate in Twitter chats re: current events.
a design thinking approach to lesson planning, esp when done collaboratively can really help with this transition
A4: I'm very at the mercy of others. It can be a real struggle. Try to sneak exciting activities in and highlight the results
A4: My Ss have trouble reading & writing, even w/ accommodations, the curiosity struggle is real when Ss get frust. W/ reading
Today exploration AND explaination are key when free apps that tell you the right answer https://t.co/JtblqyXrHQ
A4+
It isn't the content itself, but more the perception of what it means to explore mathematics.
A3: In my role I get to remove barriers to access for apps, resources and tech that helps foster student curiosity and creativity.
Time to help them dig in and https://t.co/b4czx3Fdn0
A4: Too many Ts relying on outdated texts and techniques...makes English SEEM dull and boring. The struggle becomes very real!

They range- the way I work them would it begins with an essential question, followed by research, followed by a project
YES! It takes PLC time from field trip planning to combining innovation w established lessons! https://t.co/lvALwFi7mb
a design thinking approach to lesson planning, esp when done collaboratively can really help with this transition
Agreed! We can't let time rob our classroom of joy and sound practices https://t.co/MV4ECWgW1d

Shift occurred for S's learning but lags w/ T's Leaders must focus on ppl who spend most time w/ S's.
they dont want us to be curios, so we're getting more curious
If we lose our creativity and positivity, all is lost. Who will do right by our Ss? Have to keep on. https://t.co/frosDLlZ0O

A5:Getting Ts+Ss to take risks, jump right in,forget the book, explore, create, involve community
A4 I use Pinterest.. A lot! For science.. It's a matter of saying "hey can you make this happen" using only these materials
A5: Include global learning. Ask the big questions first to inspire curiosity. Just let go! https://t.co/GHbfesNzXl

A5: Connecting lit to real-world experiences &/or news. Current events are a hot topic as they bridge the relevance gap.
A5: take a design thinking approach to curriculum planning, “how might we redesign learning experiences to…”
I think this conversation just broke my internet.
A4: We have an amazing tech staff though they've had limited time with students. Would love to set up mentorship opportunities
A5: Twitter Chats like this has really helped me get great ideas & resources. Found some great blogs too!
Thanks for making me think! Very late here in MN! Off to bed I go!
Slipping out of chat early tonight. Bye!

A Librarian daring to insult a Library?🙊
j/k The children's +teen areas these days!ReadingNooks w/fake🌳
A5 - i never go into a idea, edcamp, conference alone -always encourage a fellow teacher to accompany me - so expand possibilities
A5: I've started to increase who I follow on , not just friends & colleagues but thought-leaders on change & leadership.
Those can be the best kind though! Did you not see where Hermione found the Book of Spells? ✨
When the focus becomes # of concepts to cover and not taking time to delve in.
Thanks! Wish I could do this more often.
A5: We're using the greatest resource. Twitter offers a living, breathing, individualized resource for curious minded thinkers.

A5 - i try to infiltrate traditional classroom w/ kids sharing creative options (ie: projects, blogging, etc)
EdTech should add value to engage as a point of entry to discussions & PBL. Fancy testing aren't innovating teaching
Curiosity should push us beyond depth to width...educators need to see and connect disparate dots. Move beyond the echo chamber.
indeed. Not surprising, but still fascinating. Perhaps it could spark a new way of thinking about PD?
A5: current events discussions, trends usually spark their interest.
A5. AP here, Admins must try something new, fail and try again publicly. Be a risk taker. Do Ts trust As enough to try and fail?
A5: Twitter, Pinterest, , Edutopia
A5- keep changing your delivery and their tools- use google classroom, learn about green screens, make podcasts, write blogs etc

I want my library to be a vibrant, relevant place in the school--no criticism = no growth :)
A5: My admin fostered my curiosity when I found PDs for myself, asked to go, & then received support (sub & $) to attend.
I agree! I just finished a Hyperdoc on Pokemon Go to use when we get back to school!
Sometimes it's a case of you don't know what you don't know. Ts need to see examples of great ideas.
- This is me "letting it go" and giving Ss permission to risk failure by following their passion. https://t.co/1sxRTUzuqo

A5: Reading by - interesting ideas on breaking out of the mold. Very relevant to discussion here.
Pretty, please can you share???
A6: Use as many apps as possible. Assign some then ask Ss to pick the next ones.
A6 - kids are being introduced to seesaw this year - & i am deliberately not mastering it before them - so theyll teach me
A6: , (article collection), (exploring peer questions), , G.H.- tools are endless
A6: Increase scholar clubs & encourage the creation of PLNs for our scholars (& Staff) at to explore .
A6: For many, we need to let go that we need to know how an app/program works before we introduce it...let students teach you!
A6 I would love for my Ss to connect/Skype w a professional who has knowledge of their ideas/topics!
A6: told my about blogs that the cool kids tend to like and explore. Could help Ss explore curiosity...
I see what you did there... and I like it.
A6: Give them all the books! Inspire and engage a literate classroom.
Just released for school app. Makes History (and other things) come alive.
A6: Ask "What if" questions. Engage students in wondering. It's fun!
Love this!Don't stop there "How might we" everything you do! Policies, PD, PLCs, discipline... https://t.co/mPmtYxqPFm
A5: take a design thinking approach to curriculum planning, “how might we redesign learning experiences to…”
A6: doing Genius Hour this year, also coding & portfolios w/Google Sites
A6 - last year we had a month of code - but this year it might be 2 months - to give them more time to explore
A6: Genius hour, improv, ask Ss what they are curious about, debates & socratic seminars. https://t.co/nHZmMSKQKg

A6: I don't need to have all the answers...I just need to be willing to let students ask questions that I can't answer...
A6: step outside the world of EDU this summer with these great books and learn from these leaders https://t.co/2ayq9h3xdN
support like that will allow you to bring the best tools to your classroom and prepare Ss for the modern workforce
A6: I'm still figuring out how I learn best in this "new" world. Now, I need to re-evaluate where S's feel they learn best.
absolutely! this approach turns challenges into opportunities for design
And then create a safe space that will help them get to where they need to be.
https://t.co/oS8T97qyJz
A6: I don't need to have all the answers...I just need to be willing to let students ask questions that I can't answer...
A6 Ask Ss to help find great resources on a topic but can't duplicate it with a peer.. Share these resources with every student!
A6- favorite most exciting project this year- The Amazing Race. Ss former teams to complete a series of math challenges
A6. Go global! Global read aloud, mystery skype, collaborative projects with Ss in other parts of the country and world
A6: My goal this yr is ease up my control, push Ss to take charge of their learning, ask Qs & collaborate w/ each other.
That's the best way to learn! We introduce something & let Ss be the teacher. They pick up on it so fast!
what if we invited Ss to write the curriculum with Ts in the summer? That would be the ultimate in
Loved Global read aloud last year!
we all have something different, for me its been snapchat, key is to value different outlets and help Ss find them
A6: STEAM Fridays, coding & robotics challenges, TedTalk Tuesdays, makerspace, studentmade news broadcasts/ YouTube channels
YES!!! my tag line last year was "I don't know, let's find out or you find out & share w/the class" https://t.co/SuCpNCfiKl
A6: I don't need to have all the answers...I just need to be willing to let students ask questions that I can't answer...
that would be so interesting :)
A6 Be open to a variety of platforms and student choice. No one likes to be told what to do. Multiple access points even better.
Yes. Most of my reading is outside of education (and that's a lot of reading). Something I discuss with often.
That is huge! I don't want to shut it down but I need to make sure we have a place for it to flourish https://t.co/6CCc3aJSb2
And then create a safe space that will help them get to where they need to be.

same here, the perspective is so valuable and i love it! i think an interdisciplinary PLN is key
- Love when teachers are so willing to share. Thank you.
completely agree. We must all understand the purpose and continue reflectively learning together.

Q6: What platforms/methods might you provide for students to explore curiosity? Get creative here!
-----
Any time! I have others for math but not as "cute" as the Pokemon Go one. (Smile)
A6 Hook (lure) Ss with ; Google maps/treks, geocaching
A6-challenge them, make them work hard for their rewards, set the bar high-they won't stop and will surpr. you w/ what they create
A7: currently planning a Back to School Breakout for the first day of school
A7: Taking a page out of , has students make things out of Play-Doh in the first days of school.
I would love to see a math example.
talk to about that one. She has a few. might as well
A7: All I can say is cardboard, duct tape, and hot glue guns are going to be HUGE this year!
One of my 6th Gr Ts started TedTalk Tuesdays this year & I'd hang out in her class. So fun to learn alongside the Ss
A6 -- our makers week was pretty traditional, I want to explore a lot more open ideas (we had legos, hot wheels, colors, etc)
Yes! If we are all reading the same things, we are all gaining the same ideas, and...
A7: Looking into a to do with Ss and Ts!
A7 Starting weekly class goal-student driven. This will be interesting.
That is a wonderful initiative! Meeting Ss where they already are to teach about networks is cutting-edge
A7: Using ideas from by to reshape the vision of what math is.
A7: I commit to pursing gamification and being the cheerleader to a more student-centered approach.
agreed, and T's must be unafraid to play interchangable roles with S's. Learning should come from all directions.
Bring in objects at the beginning of a unit and ask students to make guesses about what we are going to learn.
A7: Encourage curiosity by modeling it. As soon as students see you take risks, they are likely to follow.
I may have just put in a PO for 5 cases of duct tape & am building a cardboard corral for my classroom
A6. Also: podcasts. So many topics to pique Ss interest
A7: Model the behavior & be curious to find innovative ways to learn, grow & achieve together w/ scholars & staff.
