#leadupchat focuses on school leadership broadly, culture, changing paradigms, and the growth mindset. It's an Ed movement focused on Leadership, Culture, Growth and Shifts on Saturdays at 8:30am CST, founded by Jeff Veal (@heffrey) and Nathan Lang (@nalang1).
Today, @BClarksonTX will be guest hosting alongside myself as we put the spotlight on teachers with "Relationships Over Rules: Teachers Matter Too." #LeadUpChat

A1: This stereotype stems from years of poor, hierarchical leadership. We change this narrative by building a culture of healthy, meaningful, authentic relationships across all staff...and students. #leadupchat
If we are not up to the task of laying the relational foundation with our teachers and building positive equity, then the rules/guidelines don't mean a thing. w/ @BClarksonTX#LeadUpChat#edchat#satchat
Warriors you all were pure 🔥🔥🔥🔥this morning! Let’s keep the convo going & push to Rethink Discipline! Series continues next week w/Restorative Justice!
Our Ss deserve #EduGladiators at their back who will do what’s right over what’s easy!
#satchat#leadupchat#LearnLAP
A1: There's always a feeling of us vs. them in life. We have to change this within our school community. That includes students and parents! We're all on the same team! #leadupchat
A1: Whenever there is an imbalance of power that is abused this mindset quickly takes over. I think the stereotype exist because there is bad bosses that claim to be leaders. #leadupchat To change the narrative more leaders must stand up.
A1 as old as time itself-those viewed as "bosses" vs those doing "work" its about educators educating period-fix it by doing work together not in isolation #leadupchat
A1: There's a thought that when admin make a decision that doesn't benefit the teacher, they don't care about them. That's not true - sometimes other circumstances take priority. #leadupchat
A1- I change it by always giving my Ts a voice. In the end, I have to decide but when Ts have input, they have ownership. I truly rely on my Ts. I always say “if I’m the smartest person in the building, I’ve done an awful job of hiring” #LeadUpChat
A1: Born from misunderstanding, developed into an "us v them" mentality. This mindset and culture it creates is bad for kids. We must stop it. #leadupchat
A1: as leadership became more managerial, high stakes testing & not so effective teacher evaluation practices... change narrative by being #leadlearner#nottheboss#Leadupchat
A1) We change it ine day at a time. Relationships. There have been numerous admin in the past that have not leaders but managers that have contributed to this perception. #LeadUpChat
I am not sure we can ha e one or the other. I do believe that without connectedness we have neither excellence in learning or effective compliance. #leadupchat

A1 had to come from salty admin or salty teachers, trying to create a negative atmosphere. Positive relationships can overcome that in time. #leadupchat
A1: stereotype can come from viewing situations as "us vs them" when power comes into play things get messy. instead, we should we working to change the narrative and work together #leadupchat
A1: I think it’s firmly rooted in the old school, top down structure. That structure is changing, thankfully. Waving goodbye to it starts with a communicated and modeled assurance to the contrary. #leadupchat
A1: In some cases there has been a history of mistrust, top-down decision-making, and playing favorites. Unfortunately those memories are hard to erase, even when you step in with a new attitude. #leadupchat
A1: I feel it occurred, and still occurs, when so many top-down, high stakes mandates are placed on schools and ultimately, students. We are changing lives together. Changing the narrative comes from open, honest conversations and seeking change collectively. #leadupchat
A1: In my work as a Principal, I found that the traditional Principal preparation leaned towards managerial leadership instead of instructional leadership. As we are shifting preparation to instructional leadership, principals are gaining credibility with teachers. #leadupchat
A1) Probably b/c many Ts feel they r not listened to, or that they have a lack of voice when it comes to important choices. Perhaps a more collaborative relationship b/n Ts & admin can help w/this. #leadupchat
A1: I think it was previous culture and still is some places. The change comes from the top and truly working to be a PLC where all ideas are valued. #leadupchat
A1 We all need a leadership mindset regardless of titles/positions knowing that all kids are our kids and take initiative to do whatever is necessary to do this great work. Distributed/collaborative leadership key! #leadupchat
A1: It’s up to admin to show that we are on the same page as Ts. Don’t be a dictator. Show your staff that everyone has a voice in the direction of the school. Admin is there to support not bring down. #leadupchat
A1. The stereo-type comes from decades of gotcha supervision & admin functioning as building managers vs. inclusive, instructional, visionary leaders. #leadupchat
A1: There's a thought that when admin make a decision that doesn't benefit the teacher, they don't care about them. That's not true - sometimes other circumstances take priority. #leadupchat
A1 I think its about power. The Admin has the power, but if it isn't shared, bad things can happen. If Admin doesn't share power and decision-making, Teachers feel like no one has their back and so it is Admin vs. Teachers. #leadupchat
A1: Leadership mistakes in the past- We fix it by getting our staff to trust us ( as the new leadership) and have the mindset of, “Don’t let the mistakes of leaders of the past, dictate the future of new leadership” #leadupchat
A1: We change the narrative by our actions. Don’t over-promise and under-deliver. Getting in to “us vs. them” battles harms both parties and ultimately damages what could be a transformational learning environment for kids. It is always going to be about kids. #LeadUpChat
A1- Admin need to work alongside teachers to create a WHATEVER IT TAKES culture. They should inspire and challenge each other to be better. #leadupchat#culturize
A1: #leadupchat I think any time you have a group evaluating another group, especially with jobs on the line, you created tension. Ppl don't always feel they can be real when power isn't equal.
A1: Never felt that way in my first school as a teacher because I was treated with respect as a person & a professional. I try to do the same now as an admin. The job is different, but it doesn't elevate me as a human. Too many think it does. #leadupchat
A1: I think sometimes it goes back to discretionary decisions made or sometimes the reaction/response of Ss & Ps to one voice or the other. Alleviate by backing the Ts expectation. Front load by making sure Ts expectations align w/campus. #leadupchat
A1: The principal's office has long been seen as the place you go when you're in trouble. Adults feel the tension just as they did when they were kids.
#leadupchat
A1: Just watched a Ted Talk with my kids about leadership yesterday. Leadership does not have to be admin so to change the narrative we need more examples of leaders outside just the office staff #leadupchat
A1: Some of that could stem from working with admin who were hard to talk to honestly and openly. I’m lucky to have amazing admin so I don’t feel that way! #leadupchat
A1: It has been embedded in working cultures everywhere: you are the « boss », I am the « subordinate ». Boss tells you what to do and doesn’t ask what you think. But I believe those cultures are changing. #leadupchat
Change the narrative by rewriting the story. We all have a unique role to play in making sure school is a exceptional place for students and staff to learn and grow. Transparency, Vulnerability, and Integrity are key. #leadupchat
A1: Fo some, who have been in the field for many years, that might be how it was. How it was expected to be. The admin managed and ran the building, the teachers taught. Perhaps not the relationships built today? #leadupchat
A1: I think it is the “boss/employee” mentality. There is a place for that, but a team approach benefits all. Step back and let people lead. #LeadUpChat
A1 Part of it might come from leaders who lead through power and a "here is what you have to do" narrative, rather than a, "here is what we need to do together" narrative. #walkthetalk#leadupchat
A1: One can only guess where that came from. However, we change the narrative by constantly engaging in conversations, partnerships, collaborative processes, and team-based reflections that are designed to strengthen our desire to create conditions for S success #leadupchat
A1: Seems like it has always been this way until recently. If we are servant and collaborative leaders and include all parties in the decision making process this helps change that mindset #LeadupChat
A1b: I love it when my principal sneaks in just to sit in or say what’s up, and as a teacher I love just popping into another room and being visible #leadupchat
A1: Perhaps we think because it has always been this way it must BE this way now! So much has changed and is changing in education. We have to embrace the changes and realize it takes EVERYONE working together!#LeadUpChat
A1: Model that you as the principal will not ask anyone to do anything that you aren't willing to do yourself. I often say,"all hands on deck & teamwork makes the dream work" We are ALL in this together! #LeadUpChat
A1 The old narrative of admin having power OVER instead of power WITH teachers. We need to create an environment that’s mutually supportive and works together. #leadupchat
A1: We change the narrative by our actions. Don’t over-promise and under-deliver. Getting in to “us vs. them” battles harms both parties and ultimately damages what could be a transformational learning environment for kids. It is always going to be about kids. #LeadUpChat
A1: I'm not sure where the stereotype stems from but I feel supported by my administration. I feel like my voice is always heard but I also understand that they have to make decisions based on the greater good! #LeadUpChat
A1: I think if admin takes on a more understanding position on the job going on inside the classroom that can make a difference in this dynamic. #leadupchat
A1: Every day there are opportunities to change the narrative! Connecting to Ts, Ss & Parents! Finding moments to make more personal connections #leadupchat
A2: Build in time for collaborative convos on district PD days. Build PLC time into conference/planning periods. If we're not encouraging collab among Ts, the campus may eventually turn into a handful of little silos. We are #BetterTogether. #leadupchat
Q2: How do we help create the space for teachers to have more collaborative conversations and professional learning without adding "one more thing" to their plate? #LeadUpChat
Q2: How do we help create the space for teachers to have more collaborative conversations and professional learning without adding "one more thing" to their plate? #LeadUpChat
A1) When admins view their position as the source of authority to lead their school, bad things happen and everyone (not just Ts) become resentful. However, when admins view their position as an opportunity to serve and empower others, a culture of teamwork emerges. #leadupchat
A1 High Stakes Testing + Punative Evaluation Models + Removal/Tinkering of TEacher Safeguards for Employment. Start with Relationships, building teams, modeling expectations, value input, and allow for reflective and and collaborative evaluations. #LEADUPCHAT
A1: How many of us, when we became admin, were told we've gone to the dark side? What is that about? Everyone plays a role in building the right culture for efficacious teams to do what is best for students. #leadupchat
A1: I think it is a remnant of an old and antiquated machine based on teacher tenure and a "gotcha" mentality. Your best admins understand we are all in this together. We know how to build on foundations, and how not to destroy promising talent!! #LeadUpChat
A1: It reminds me of the stereotypical "teacher vs. student" relationship. Who teaches? Who learns? Collaboration? Whose "classroom" is it? #leadupchat
Well stated, Neil. This reminds me of that Grateful Dead song, "Playing in the Band." I approach the Schoolhouse like a band. Everyone plays and everyone has pivotal part to play to create beautiful music. #leadupchat#chatcameo
A1: the us vs. Them mind set appears each and every time you have managers in a school. It is when the LEADERS show up that the school truly comes together as one. #leadupchat
A1 I think that it was historically thought of that way. Admins are the ‘rulers’ so to speak and Ts followed their lead. Shared leadership has changed that but some pockets do still remain. #LeadupChat
A#1 Great Q! I think historically it's from the traditional management vs. workers narrative. As admin, we can't just say we r "nice and trustful" folks. T need to c that the admin. can be trusted, will not intimidate, know how to support S, & can help T be the best!. #leadupchat
A1b: With so much to do and so little time to do it, decisions sometimes must be made without as much communication as we would like. Also, teachers are overwhelmed and admin are typically the deliverers of news that we need to do even more #leadupchat
A1 Its about building relationships, involving all in the process of the School, allow admin staff to visit classroom's without T's fearing this. #LeadUpChat
A1: It takes a collaborative and positive culture to change the narrative. Any chance I get to teach I take it! I want my Ts to see me as a T too just like I want to see them as leaders! We are all in this together! #leadupchat
A1: Because there’s no way for a staff of 100+ to agree on everything. If ur in positional power inevitably you’ll make a decision that some disagree with & they’ll feel disappointed. Goal=being able to disagree but still support and empower. #leadupchat
A1. I notice a lot of false urgency ABOVE admins that creates immediacy of action, rushing past engaging in the "why" leaving Ts and even admins themselves wondering about connections to 👧🏾👦🏻and learning. #LeadUpChat
A1: Clearly defining our role to Ts, overcommunicating it, and consistently putting it into action. Example: When a T with a high need S who was having a bad day recently said, “It was hard, but I felt all of you with me every step of the way.” #leadupchat
A1 Part of it might come from leaders who lead through power and a "here is what you have to do" narrative, rather than a, "here is what we need to do together" narrative. #walkthetalk#leadupchat
A2: I was invited to co-facilitate Building Safety Team, passion of mine, it's my choice to stay on. I feel very empowered and equal working with my admin. #leadupchat
#leadupchat A1 Whenever there is a hierarchy and evaluations, ppl divide out of fear. It’s natural, but can be changed by flattening the hierarchy and giving everyone a voice! @NASSP
This is an important point. I listened to an amazing podcast recently on the new book H3 Leadership--Be Humble. Stay Hungry. Always Hustle. Humility is defined as power under control. Effective leaders develop these three traits equally. #leadupchat
A1: Difficult to determine origination because the feeling is largely situation if it exists. Inclusion in the process and transparency in leadership helps bridge the gap. Leadership isn't about the title it's about the attitude and effort. We are all leaders. #LeadUpChat
A2: Less top down, more casual conversations. Sharing teacher to teacher is often not seen as more to the plate but growth for everyone comes from those 2 minute chats. #leadupchat#4OCF#teacherdriven
Q2: How do we help create the space for teachers to have more collaborative conversations and professional learning without adding "one more thing" to their plate? #LeadUpChat
A1: I shared this during the week but it’s worth repeating particularly for this Q. Traditional mindset is Ldr is the expert & that’s never been true nor will it fly now. Admin must empower Ts in actionable ways & not with just words. Share Ldrship decisions/tasks. #Leadupchat
Hi, I'm Liza from the 🇵🇭 soon to be a 4th grade T.
A1: Change it by admin being more visible around school, knowing Ss by name, chatting w/ Ts & listening, or dropping by the classroom to know what's going on. #leadupchat
Our commitment should always be to bring out the best in our people. This will put our campus in the position where great teachers are fighting to get in, rather than running to get out. w/ @BClarksonTX#LeadupChat#edchat#JoyFulLeaders#LeadLAP
You are exactly right! That's why it's so important to remember to treat everyone fairly every day. It has to be who you are, not just when it's convenient #leadupchat
A1 If the only relationship is boss/employee, this stereotype will prevail. Building relationships...caring, truthful, open relationships will slowly break down these walls...but they must be honest and authentic. #leadupchat
A1 ~ Admin has to address issues that arise and have difficult discussions about how something could have been done differently. Convo has to focus on continuous improvement - Ts, Ss, & admin! #LeadUpChat
Love the differentiation between managers and leaders here. Leaders work to chart a collaborative course and actively work to support team members as we move forward together #leadupchat
A1 Not sure where that came from but instructional coaches are great at bridging that gap. I try to listen to goals that admin want for schools & implement in my coaching/training. But also listen to Ts and support them where they are. #leadupchat
A1: ALWAYS use WE language & never use "I" language. It takes every single person in our school community to be extraordinary. We are world changers...that is so powerful, isn't it!!!!! #LeadUpChat
A2: As a teacher looking in through your eyes… Definitely work on the culture of the school. How can we make this a positive experience for all? (I know this might be easier said than done).
#LeadUpChat
A2: We have time built in for collaborative conversations. Working on making that time more effective by reflecting on how we function as a #PLC & keeping Ss at the center of every conversation & decision #Leadupchat
Q2: How do we help create the space for teachers to have more collaborative conversations and professional learning without adding "one more thing" to their plate? #LeadUpChat
A2: Build in the collaborative time...create opportunities for people to converse digitally...offer off campus activities that allow people to see ea other as more than just educators. #leadupchat
A1: Returns back to the culture that is created in the school. Admin and teachers are a team. Changing the narrative involves admin including teachers in decisions and being present in classrooms--sit and stay, learn with us, hang out with the Ss. Relationships 1st. #leadupchat
A2- by trying to give them common planning with their grade level or subject colleagues, by encouraging risk taking, by pushing innovation, and by not being a “gotcha” person #LeadUpChat
A1: many factors contributed this stereotype. Many of the factors are out of our control (politics... Act 10 here in WI set us back 5 years, admin turnover as well). It’s up to the current admin and teachers to be consciously committed to changing that culture. #leadupchat
Q2: How do we help create the space for teachers to have more collaborative conversations and professional learning without adding "one more thing" to their plate? #LeadUpChat
Media hasn’t helped with these stereotypes. Not only is the Admin vs teacher stereotype enforced, principals often portrayed as bumbling idiots #leadupchat
A2: We bagged traditional department meetings bc they’re silly. Rather, we gave that time back to Ts to explore that which is important to them. We did the same through PLCs during in service. Little if anything is imposed anymore. #LeadUpChat
Q2: How do we help create the space for teachers to have more collaborative conversations and professional learning without adding "one more thing" to their plate? #LeadUpChat
A2: Since we can’t add time to the day, we need to transform how time is being used. Example: give some collaborative time during staff meetings, structure PD days around collaboration. #leadupchat
Q2: How do we help create the space for teachers to have more collaborative conversations and professional learning without adding "one more thing" to their plate? #LeadUpChat
A2) The time has to be built into the day. Dedicate some staff meetings just for collaboration. Provide subs for a collaborative period, if needed. #leadupchat
So true! Without effective managerial leadership, nothing gets done. :) We can't have safe schools and balanced budgets without managerial leadership. And we need Principals who are confident engaging in instructional conversations during PLC meetings. Hard work! #leadupchat
This is only changed through action. Which amounts to genuine Trust building. Over time. sadly- we have admin colleague who DO operate this way. They perpetuate a flawed dynamic. #LeadUpChat
A2) I think it is important to ground PLC conversation on important principles (like data and individual student conversations), but admins have to trust teachers to develop their own practices for the meeting and how they do it. #leadupchat
Q2: How do we help create the space for teachers to have more collaborative conversations and professional learning without adding "one more thing" to their plate? #LeadUpChat
A2 What structures or protocols in the day to day operations of your school or district allow for teacher and STUDENT voice in the edu process #leadupchat
Q2: How do we help create the space for teachers to have more collaborative conversations and professional learning without adding "one more thing" to their plate? #LeadUpChat
A2 allow more time for more casual collaboration and conversation. openness and attitude are everything. change how current time is being utilized
#leadupchat
Thank you for speaking into this topic! We need "teacher eyes" when looking at this just like we need "student eyes" when peering into the classroom. #leadupchat
A2: We must stop adding more things to our plate. Depth over breadth. We hear it all the time time, yet we tend to fall into the trap of adding over subtracting. Create the conditions, be the model be part of the team by doing the work alongside the team. #leadupchat
RTQ2: How do we help create the space for teachers to have more collaborative conversations and professional learning without adding "one more thing" to their plate? #LeadUpChat
A2: Our district releases early every Friday to provide at least 90 minutes of PL. My teachers asked for more PLC time, in addition to shared plan time, balanced with PL. Every other week we have either 90 minutes of PL or PLC. Listened to my people doing the work. #LeadUpChat
A2: Is it "one more thing"? As a T, I don't see it that way. Opportunities to grow, to be part of building our culture and setting goals is an exciting part of my job. #leadupchat
So agree with this. And principals can embrace agency to do some of this flattening themselves. The entire system doesn't have to change to create channels for dialog within a school. #LeadUpChat
A1, The Admin vs. T narrative is normal & historical. Especially for new T, they are worried about jobs, want 2 impress, it would be naive to think that the trust is there in advance. Leaders have 2 EARN the trust through competence, relationship building, takes time. #leadupchat
A2: ensure the work they are doing is focused on answering the 4 PLC questions. Few topics in school fit outside answering those questions. #leadupchat
A1. My very first day as a building leader I asked my staff not to get behind me and follow me but rather walk beside me so we can help each other help kids. Everyday since is about keeping people beside me. #leadupchat
By creating "buy in", as teachers we must feel like it is in our best interest to join in collaboration. Yet, what often happens is, administrative managers tell us we are going to do this and give no benefit. #leadupchat
Q2: How do we help create the space for teachers to have more collaborative conversations and professional learning without adding "one more thing" to their plate? #LeadUpChat
A2- We meet weekly for PLC and Data Team work. If student learning is your #1 priority, then you must commit to having collaborative conversations. #leadupchat
A2 take the time to hire great, smart, engaged people and then let them do their jobs. Share the resposnisbility, model accountability, talk about WE. Say thank you and I am sorry often. Be transparent. #LEADUPCHAT
A2: You give them time by replacing something not important with things that are meaningful and will give growth. We got rid of staff meeting and replaced with collaboration PLC time. Staff meetings didn’t get growth just information so we made the choice to be better #leadupchat
Q2: How do we help create the space for teachers to have more collaborative conversations and professional learning without adding "one more thing" to their plate? #LeadUpChat
A1 Jennifer Gonzalez posted this on her blog @cultofpedagogy “one element that makes the difference in whether the teachers in any given school will lean toward positive and productive or desperate & crushed: That element is the administrator” https://t.co/itA8URzjO0#leadupchat
A2: Keep your ear to the ground, listen to teachers, ask the right questions, know when they need time and grant it. Sometimes we make this thing too hard!! #leadupchat
We need to be intentional that we are bulldozing barriers for our staff teams. We build capacity by giving authoriy. Do we cultivate a"permission giving" or "come and ask" culture on our campus or district. #LeadUpChat#edchat
A1: I believe it developed when teachers were forced to stand up for themselves due to dictatorship, poor communication and a lack of collaboration in a school culture. If we want professional teachers, it is the responsibility of leadership to empower them. #LeadUpChat
A1. Leadership isn’t exclusive to a title or position. It’s about what you do, the actions you take, and how your behavior influences others-if you’ve earned the permission to do so. #leadupchat
A2 when you look at PD make sure there is a reason-a long term commitment-support structure & intentionality aligned to your long term vision. Don't just do it to do it #leadupchat
This is my answer👆🏾! We need to rethink our structure & expectations of what a teacher’s day should look like. Also need to reflect collaboration priorités in the Master Schedule! #leadupchat
Yes! My instructional coach is amazing at this! We are able to bring each other to earth when thinking too outside of the box & my staff is not there yet! #LeadUpChat
A1. Leadership isn’t exclusive to a title or position. It’s about what you do, the actions you take, and how your behavior influences others-if you’ve earned the permission to do so. #leadupchat
A2: Such a great question! We struggle with this at our HS. How to squeeze in collab/pd time while not interrupting instructional time? It’s difficult to maneuver! #LeadUpChat
We need to be intentional that we are bulldozing barriers for our staff teams. We build capacity by giving authority. Do we cultivate a"permission giving" or "come and ask" culture on our campus or district. #LeadUpChat#edchat
A2 It takes some out of the box thinking to find those pockets of time where tech can help the admin communicate info but provide Ts with more time for planning/collaboration #leadupchat
A2. Review what you do and eliminate things that are no longer relevant, needed, or productive. Often we just add new things and never eliminate the old worn out things. #leadupchat
A1: I am not sure where the stereotype started, but I do think that is a "them" vs "us" mentality with some. In order to change that, we all need to be more transparent and really build trust between everyone. We should all be on the same team! #leadupchat
A1: Where you see this often, you also see an us vs them mentality with students vs teachers too. To me it seems a function of overall school climate. Relationships matter for schools to be successful. #LeadUpChat
A2: Time and space are essential. @Tom_Newkirk says that good teaching isn’t rushed, and this applies to PD as well. Give teachers chances to communicate, observe, reflect, & share their thinking. Encourage book study groups. Writing groups. Support Ts. #leadupchat
A2 Changing the way we use the time we already have. Use staff time for PD and allow choice and time to collaborate. Share information some other way. #leadupchat
A2: #leadupchat@SaneeBell & @MarkMccord10 provided subs periodically throughout semester, to support collaborative team planning/learning beyond our conference periods.
A2: The "one more thing" must make life easier for T's and their process. It's usefulness and purpose also must be presented clearly and not just become a task that is dropped on the plates of our teachers. #LeadUpChat
A2: Do as much as possible to create common planning time. Then see if you can’t cover a supervision duty once or twice per week to take something off their plates. Finding this time has been a struggle every place I have worked. #leadupchat
A2: if you can't change the hours in a day... you have to think about how to be creative with time! Because what we really want/need is more time. I bet you have a bunch of creative teachers at your building, see what we could come up with ☺️👍🏻 #leadupchat
A2. Prioritize the time and don’t waiver from causing collaboration. One thing we did was set all of our meetings (IEP, SST, 504, Collabs) on a single day so they have more days for collaborating. #leadupchat
A1: Possibly from an old system of line staff division (flow chart of power). Anyone who knows anything about how important relationships are, understands that power is not the way to go. The lines start to become erased when the focus is on building relationships. #leadupchat
A2 Weekly PLC, collaboration in staff meetings through sharing of ideas, digital hookups with other schools with Ss being at the centre always. The school I did my pracs at had fortnightly PLC. #LeadUpChat
A2 Deliberately creating opportunities for those times to exist for them. Developing a structure for that time so it used for the purpose of collaborating and not simple socializing or chatting. Focused time. #LeadupChat
A2: I always love when my admin asks me to go to (for example a coaching day) with her. Gives us time to talk and connect. I feel VERY comfortable district wide with admin. #leadupchat
A2 Collaborative conversations has to be a action-based priority, not just something we say. Creating the space begins with establishing protected time where our team can engage, examine, reflect, and plan next steps to support their professional growth #leadupchat
Q2: How do we help create the space for teachers to have more collaborative conversations and professional learning without adding "one more thing" to their plate? #LeadUpChat
A2: Shared Leadership! Create the culture that screams "inclusivity". Make it odd when perspectives are not considered when adding to your narrative. Don't get bogged down with those things outside of your circle of control. #LeadUpnow
A great first step for building trust. I like to use @RLGMike tool of 30 second feedback. Each time I'm in a classroom, I take 30 seconds to leave a positive note--"TY for letting me visit. I saw this...and this is the impact that had on learning. Well done!" #leadupchat
A2. Leaders have to, by personal example, show that they welcome risk-taking, and open conversations. Also L need to filter out educational fads, that take up teacher time. #leadupchat
A2: We have a group of teachers meeting on our own time to share ideas - under newer admin - a culture of trying new things and not being afraid to fail has allowed that. #leadupchat
A1 Location, location, location. Admin out in building and part of action of school daily are viewed as a team player. Admin in office, always at a meeting, are viewed as off in the distance and may not understand the day to day life in the school. #LeadUpChat
Model collaboration. Get creative with time. Hire guest teachers to carve out large chunks of time for teacher collaboration. Invite teachers to dream big and contribute to things that are important.#leadupchat
A2: Use meeting time wisely. Don't pack it with things that should have been in an email. Be strategic about schedules to allow time for collaboration. #leadupchat
Q2: How do we help create the space for teachers to have more collaborative conversations and professional learning without adding "one more thing" to their plate? #LeadUpChat
#leadupchat A2 Set aside time during the school day, create systems for sharing conversations and resources that are easy to navigate AND take something else off of their plates!
A1: I need to pop back here for a second. The stereotype exist because for some it is reality. Until that is addressed I think it will always happen. We can have great change leaders in school that are not admin but their candle will be snuffed out after too long. #leadupchat
A2 efficiently use the time you have. Eliminate waste. Constantly engage teachers regarding student learning and growth. Be innovative. Surprise teachers and give them the gift of time. #leadupchat
A2: Take as much off of the Ts’ plates as possible. Then work to instill the mindset that collaboration is crucial. Call upon your own staff to lead learning - best PD is right in your own building. #leadupchat
A2: Validate what Ts are doing right, & find ways to support & help. Collaborative convos must be modeled by admin. The vibe could be, "how can I help/support you?" #leadupchat
Q2: How do we help create the space for teachers to have more collaborative conversations and professional learning without adding "one more thing" to their plate? #LeadUpChat
#leadupchat A1 Honestly, the conflict arises when 1 Tr starts bashing the admin and then that Tr gets a following. STAY AWAY FROM NEGATIVE TRS! They will bring you down. #BePositve
Let's be clear: Academic penalties for non academic behaviors have never, & will never, be appropriate. A grade isn't classroom mgt. #edchat#TLAP#LeadLAP#leadupchat
A2: Small nudges! Model how powerful collaboration w/in & beyond the bldg can be. Those that want to learn will make time to grow! #DaringDecember challenge around collaboration & tech integration. 4 Ts won an Echo dot. Names were drawn-Ts completed 6/10 challenges.#leadupchat
A2: On the flip side, Ts need to meet in the middle. If admin is trying, have to meet them where they are two. Takes two to build a relationship. #leadupchat
A2: We talked about this Thursday night in #masterychat - the idea of release time for Ts to browse PD on their own Twitter and other social media instead of a guest speaker.
#LeadUpChat
Unfortunately, I have seen a (now terminated) superintendent boast about not only “overturning apple carts, but also kicking them down the road.” This mindset does NOT build culture. It sets us all back- Ts, Ss, and Admins. #LeadershipFail#LeadUpChat
So true and what I did as a leader. Had to stress though to teachers to READ their emails. I sent a weekly one with all the info to it flood their inbox. #leadupchat
A2: I do not believe there is a one-size-fits-all for teachers. How are admins differentiating professional learning opportunities? How are teachers being supported as they step outside of their comfort zones? Is credit given for Ts who learn on their own? #leadupchat
I absolutely agree! Something I am quite passionate about is helping leaders see themselves as instructional leaders who wear a coaching hat more often than an evaluator's hat. #leadupchat
A2: The "one more thing" must make life easier for T's and their process. It's usefulness and purpose also must be presented clearly and not just become a task that is dropped on the plates of our teachers. #LeadUpChat
A2 #leadupchat As a 2nd yr T I see need 4 campuses to have more collaborative groups beyond your own grade level. Yesterday our campus had PD where we discussed a central topic with a T from each grade and I thought it was SUPER helpful and productive. Didn't even feel like work
A2: Anytime something is added we need to ensure that something is being taken away to keep a balance. I like to use @Flipgrid to give my Ts a voice and prompt collaborative conversations. #leadupchat
A2. "Without adding one more thing" is definitely a major issue. Leaders must filter out educational fads, so teachers don't waste time on initiatives and reforms that do not positively affect the classroom, student success, and teacher effectiveness. #leadupchat
A2: Since we can’t add time to the day, we need to transform how time is being used. Example: give some collaborative time during staff meetings, structure PD days around collaboration. #leadupchat
Right, Keri. The logistics of creating the time is iterative. We must be consistent with the planning, and making the necessary adjustments, to create better conditions for collaboration. #leadupchat
A2. We have to look at the structure and strategy of our current working conditions. We don’t always need to add something. Sometimes we need to restructure our time to make it more purposeful and productive. #leadupchat
Q2: It takes a lot of time but Ts need to see the benifits of learning together. Consistently bringing attention to S learning & achievement & how the collaboration was key in T & S success will get teachers to take ownership in the process. #leadupchat
A2: On one of our work days, I took my staff on a mystery field trip. Our local college built a MakerSpace & we learned to how code robots. Our vision embodies innovation & it is my duty to provide PD that aligns with that! Always! #LeadUpChat
We really are! That is why I work with my admin team to provide meaningful, relevant PL that teachers can take back and use on Monday. Otherwise, it feels like one more thing. #LeadUpChat
A2: We have PLC time built in to early release, but historically it was interrupted by lots of other things. We have worked to keep that time pretty sacred, only giving teams a few questions to help them focus on our “why” during the collaboration #leadupchat
A1: The stereotypes are from those who experienced leaders who use control and power to influence. As leaders, we must break the mold by building quality relationships, serving & empowering. #leadupchat
A2 May not be a popular idea but maybe Ts need to realize the importance of collaboration and carve out time too. 3rd grade T here, and I want to try to start some T dialogue at my school. Ten minutes after school could build momentum. #leadupchat
A2. Embed this time into their schedule. Also have intentional plans and not have meetings just for the sake of having them (especially if it could be sent as an email). Value and honor teacher planning time. #LeadupChat
It requires us to build two routines--the routine of regularly getting into classrooms and the routine of looking for impact. See what the teacher is doing but look for the impact that practice is having on learning. #leadupchat
A1 it came from the factory model of supervision. Union vs. leaders. It has taken a long time, but being with Ts and Ss more and having Ts involved co-leaders has helped #leadupchat
#leadupchat A2 This is tough because you usually do collaboration during your conference period, WHICH IS NEEDED FOR THE TR. Some schools I have worked at have given Tr teams half day subs so they can do team work.
Q2. Use time effectively, especially w/ meetings. Just as Ts think about lesson plans and objectives, those running meetings need to do the same. It should be outlined and everything should tie back to the meetings objective and goal. #LeadUpChat
A2. Review what you do and eliminate things that are no longer relevant, needed, or productive. Often we just add new things and never eliminate the old worn out things. #leadupchat
True! And engaging. We ask teachers to change how we teach students yet PD often remains "sit and get". That is devastating to the learning process. #leadupchat
A2: Participating in flexible learning, carving out time for collabortaiton with other teachers, and finding opportunities that will directly impact them and grow them. #leadupchat
A3: Build those positive, healthy, authentic relationships w/ Ts and be present in classrooms. Talk them up in front of their Ss. Brag on what's great about the lesson. Brag on Ts who are doing great things in front of other Ts. The list could go on and on. #leadupchat
The culture of your school affects how you look at things. I am at a school that most of the Ts would see it as "one more thing". School culture is set and affected by admin. #leadupchat
A2b: During yesterday’s PD we had a practice #warriorscreate Twitter chat @MapleWarriors. Make time to teach Ts. Experienced Twitter Ts helping newbie Twitter Ts. We threw in Bitmoji and gifs!! So fun! #leadupchat#ssdpride
Collaboration seems to be contagious too. Rather than forcing it, let a few lead the way who want to and others will join. If you build it, they will come! #leadupchat
A2. We need to take a hard look at unnecessary meetings for information download that could be shared electronically. Use technology to our advantage. If you have to think about what you are going to do in a staff meeting each week, perhaps it’s not needed....🤓 #leadupchat
A2. We have to reinvent time. It is possible. Step out of traditional mindset of class periods, silo subjects. Rearrange time/schedule to allow for collaboration, build it into the day. What gets scheduled gets done. #LeadUpChat
A2: It takes a lot of time but Ts need to see the benefits of learning together. Consistently bringing attention to S learning & achievement & how the collaboration was key in T & S success will get teachers to take ownership in the process. #leadupchat
#truth I was very lucky to move from teacher to instructional coach to admin, I think it helps me with my own lense when I work with educators #leadupchat
We had a blast!! It was my first year at our school, so it was imperative to create a learning experience, while also building relationships! #LeadUpChat
Our rotating advisory time will give us additional learning time as well. I am always trying to find more time for you all. Hard but so needed. #leadupchat
A2: #leadupchat@SaneeBell & @MarkMccord10 provided subs periodically throughout semester, to support collaborative team planning/learning beyond our conference periods.
A2: We must provide them contracted time to do the work of the PLC! I call this Creative Scheduling 101! As Dr. Richard DuFour said, “Our role as leaders isn’t to supervise teachers, it’s to support them.” Time is a major resource in supporting teachers!#LeadUpChat@SolutionTree
A1. Leadership isn’t exclusive to a title or position. It’s about what you do, the actions you take, and how your behavior influences others-if you’ve earned the permission to do so. #leadupchat
Ideally the addition of "one more thing" either simplifies a process or naturally eliminates the need for something. We need to always focus on our efficiency as we provide supports for ourselves and others. #leadupchat
A2 Instead if admin giving teachers more to do, give them something to believe in. Communicate a compelling vision and invite them on a journey to greatness. #leadupchat
it can be hard for Teachers to also see this I often tell them "this is a coaching conversation not an admin (evaluator) conversation." be explicit #leadupchat
A2: I think the first step is to have a conversation w/ the school leadership team or school improvement team. Then the collaborative process and discussion can begin to make space for PD and academic discourse between staff. #LeadUpChat
A2: Make connections w/ among Ts between professional learning and a common purpose (hopefully the school vision/mission/goals). Promote a continuous growth model & take the back seat as often as possible. Use Ts to lead the learning. #leadupchat
It was amazing! We had so much fun, but then teachers "checked out" the robots for their classes & created the most innovative experiences EVER! Meaningful for ALL of us! #leadupchat
This is important, Marci. The side-by-side support that we give our team members through coaching helps them to identify specific areas of strength and areas where growth is needed - leads to a stronger learning environment #leadupchat
A1: I shared this during the week but it’s worth repeating particularly for this Q. Traditional mindset is Ldr is the expert & that’s never been true nor will it fly now. Admin must empower Ts in actionable ways & not with just words. Share Ldrship decisions/tasks. #Leadupchat
BOOM! One-way communication can be sent electronically. Face-to-Face time needs to be reserved for collaborative conversations and learning. #leadupchat
A2. We need to take a hard look at unnecessary meetings for information download that could be shared electronically. Use technology to our advantage. If you have to think about what you are going to do in a staff meeting each week, perhaps it’s not needed....🤓 #leadupchat
Q2: How do we help create the space for teachers to have more collaborative conversations and professional learning without adding "one more thing" to their plate? #LeadUpChat
A2: "Weed the garden" if we are adding things, other things need to be discontinue or rethink things that might not be working. Don't keep thing the same just "because it's always been done that way" -- I cringe at this statement every time! #leadupchat
A2 How about fostering informal collaborative routines like copier conversations, classroom pass throughs and class activity calendar boards boards? #LeadUpChat
Also critical for our district leaders to do the same with their principals & Ts. Not okay for CO personnel to not read their emails. Can’t be “too busy” to read emails because of your title. Feeds narrative of CO vs schoools. #leadupchat
A2 collab time is built into our weekly schedule and monthly after school. Still trying to get more Ts to be involved on Twitter and other platforms. KISS model! #leadupchat
That is fantastic!! You are so right. It requires a commitment. And through you actions you are communicating that your priority is instruction. Love it! #leadupchat
We need to keep in mind that, initially, many T r skeptical of admin in PLC meetings. Unfortunately they've had experiences with admin who r not open, willing to learn, & take criticism. L must show T they can be trusted, & r competent concerning curr. & instruction. #leadupchat
A2: It takes a lot of time but Ts need to see the benefits of learning together. Consistently bringing attention to S learning & achievement & how the collaboration was key in T & S success will get teachers to take ownership in the process. #leadupchat
A2. We can avoid overloading teachers by focusing and prioritizing our efforts. Measure what matters and monitor what you measure. Trying to do everything almost always results in regression because it’s not practical! #leadupchat
Teachers want to work together! Was out to dinner with teacher friends last night and ended up discussing how to best reach our readers! We had no agenda or plan. It’s almost natural to collaborate if you just have the time. #leadupchat
A1: I also believe in the philosophy that you cannot be a successful leader, until you are an outstanding follower. People often forget the importance of standing behind someone and supporting them. #leadupchat
That's why my #oneword2018 is #relationships . Working on making those connections to the heart before those connections to the mind. Trying to make a difference! #leadupchat
It was by far the best "meeting" that I have ever had. It was exciting too, because they didn't know where we were going lol. I love an element of surprise too!!! #leadupchat
A2: I should also add reflection (collaborative conversations, professional learning, and time for reflection). Anything else, should be communicated in the announcements or via email. #leadupchat
Too true! “Sit down, Ts, so we can explain to you the ways Didactic Instruction misses the needs of most learners, we’ll take a break in an hour.” #leadupchat
A2 Use Ts' time wisely. My district has a cohort model for early release Wed. where Ts have choice for professional learning. Creates more buy-in and ensures more meaningful learning. #leadupchat
A2: It takes a lot of time but Ts need to see the benefits of learning together. Consistently bringing attention to S learning & achievement & how the collaboration was key in T & S success will get teachers to take ownership in the process. #leadupchat
One of the most important jobs of a leader is to create high functioning teams with a diversity of talent and then ask the right questions. Let teachers lead through their areas of strength and a school is unstoppable. #leadupchat
A1: If admin isn’t an active, visible presence within the building, it could create a toxic environment. Exemplary leaders lead from the middle, not the front. #LeadUpChat
Absolutely!! I would love to see more Principals who have that lens leading learning with their Assistant Principals who may have a more managerial lens. Too often Assistant Principals spend their time exclusively on managerial tasks. #leadupchat
A3 Find ways for teachers to see teachers teaching! When teachers see each other teaching, their confidence and self efficacy increases. Sharing = more sharing and conversations about what makes an impact on learning. #leadupchat
A3: Admin must be purposeful in seeing and celebrating the "GLOWS" on their campus. SM is a great way to celebrate and share the great work in your district. We use #teambcsd as our hashtag. #leadupchat
A3: Admins,
- talk with Ts, not to them
- take no notes or devices
- listen, look, and be present
- celebrate the shared goals of the community
#LeadUpChat
A3: Loving the #pineapplechart for sharing. Shout outs to highlight great things teachers are doing. Make sure to get all the teachers though! #leadupchat
Correct. We have to model what we expect from others - at every level of the system. If we are to be a learning organization, we must all be actively engaged! #leadupchat
Trying to do everything results in shallow learning. If we want deep learning, we have to prioritize and invest in a small number of objectives. #leadupchat
A1. Also want to make sure I say this: leading isn’t centered in being in charge, being the boss, etc. It’s about having a heart that truly is rooted in helping others-not because you desire to tell them what to do. Serve. Learn. Lead. #leadupchat
A3 Trying to acknowledge all the amazing work with positive notes, immediate feedback about what was so great and the effect it is having on students, celebrations at meetings. #leadupchat
Q2: How do we help create the space for teachers to have more collaborative conversations and professional learning without adding "one more thing" to their plate? #LeadUpChat
A3 How about admin setting goals about the number of classroom walkthroughs they do each week and using google Forms to send the Ts positive notes about what they saw? #LeadUpChat
A3: Changing our words and seeing admin/T relationship from a growth mindset perspective. Remove the evaluator stance. Focus on what teachers are doing well. Use positive language. #leadupchat
A3. Genuine celebration pours out of a joyful core. Leaders often overfocus on "action" at cost of self-knowledge. Love practice of #mindfulness as foundation for appreciating self, then others. #LeadUpChat
A3: okay so you know how students like to hear when they are doing well... so do teachers! ☺️ I also appreciate constructive criticism. If you have an idea to help teachers grow, let them know! #LeadUpChat
A3: Relationships are always number 1. They were 50 years ago. They will be 50 years from now. If your staff knows you care about them. If you are sincere if your praise..they will walk through 🔥 for you. #LeadUpChat
A3. Recognize great things teachers are doing. Let other teachers, students, and parents know. Oh, but to recognize it, you have to see it. Get out of the office. #leadupchat
A3: this is part of my focus for the rest of the year. We build the culture we want by what we do each day. Investing in staff morale requires little $. It requires leaders to take time to see people working at their craft & celebrating their contributions. Be visible #LeadUpChat
A3 Hire great people, let them do their work, celebtate it often. Social media, shout outs ovee intercom, share with local media. Highlight the value added by the PERSON not the technique. #LEADUPCHAT
A2 Shift from PD as something that is mandatorily done to educators to Professional Learning= learning is done TOGETHER, in a culture of WE! #leadupchat
A3) As "busy" as an admin's schedule can be, there is a natural tendency to discuss only that which MUST addressed. I've been particularly guilty of that this year. That being said, the best admins take time to praise teachers individually and in public. #leadupchat
This is a key observation, Hilary. Because we are dedicated to our craft, we routinely find ourselves actively reflecting on approaches to innovation to benefit our Ss #ItsACalling#leadupchat
This makes me happy every time I pass a classroom. Ts inviting each other to enter, observe, and give feedback! This makes us stronger & better @WeAreWoodstock is a special place #Observeme#vted
A3: I LOVE THIS one. #celebrate is my word of 2018. I think we need to celebrate the big AND small. Start meetings with a celebration share. I bought a fun notepad from amazon to pass out "nailed it" notes to my Ts,Ss, and administrators this year. #leadupchat
A3: Be intentional. Let people know the positives you see. Make it a big deal. Teaching is hard work. Never forget that #leadupchat Admin should be a support
A2 common plan time is always beneficial. I have always appreciated shared department lunches. Providing teachers the opportunity to go into another teacher's classroom and observe is always powerful! #edchat#LeadUpChat
Q2: How do we help create the space for teachers to have more collaborative conversations and professional learning without adding "one more thing" to their plate? #LeadUpChat
I think creating ‘social’ opportunities for staff is important too. Those moments develop relationships and a positive environment - they invest in each other. #leadupchat
Teachers want to work together! Was out to dinner with teacher friends last night and ended up discussing how to best reach our readers! We had no agenda or plan. It’s almost natural to collaborate if you just have the time. #leadupchat
A2: Carving time for collaborative conversations w/out piling "one more thing" on already overburdened Ts is nearly impossible but so necessary. We minimize the business portion of our faculty mtgs. & find ways to streamline many "business" duties as much as we can.
#LeadUpChat
Q2: How do we help create the space for teachers to have more collaborative conversations and professional learning without adding "one more thing" to their plate? #LeadUpChat
A3: “catch them being good”
CAN work. Sure. But not superficially so. There are no@prizes for doing what’s expected. That’s a cultural norm (hyper-incentivization) that’s also unhealthy. We want Ts doing what’s right and what’s good because it’s Right and Good. #LeadUpChat
yes key is a good admin team, I'm lucky to work with @PrincipalCahill & we share the load -we say we are co-leadlearners & spent first year in the same office to help cement that balance #leadupchat
A3- Our Admin team has a goal of EVERY classroom EVERY day. You have to be in the classrooms to know what is going on. It makes recognizing and celebrating teachers easy! #leadupchat
A3: The impact on teaching and learning is greater when we focus on strengths!! Relationships, relationships, relationships!! Get to know Ts. Be present in classrooms and the building.#leadupchat#ssdpride#warriorscreate#JoinTogetherJanuary
A1: when I started teaching it just felt that way. It wasn’t until I started working for a principal that broke that myth that I realized there was no US or THEM—make everyone in the organization feel valued #LeadUpChat
A3 What if everyone tweeted one thing each day to celebrate what is going on in the classroom, and then read each others tweets? #celebratemonday#leadupchat
A3: Be present and say something!! With words!! Also, Tweeting and re-tweeting the great things they do is paramount! DM's from central office go a long way in spotlighting the great work Ts do!! #LeadUpChat
A3 Listen, engage, compliment, say thank you, send notes of encouragement, offer help, and give support. Work alongside teachers not apart from them. #leadupchat
A3) Admin should be involved & present in classrooms & activities. Admin can celebrate the great things they see by congratulating Ts, through mentions at meetings, in a newsletter, etc. #leadupchat
A3: Be curious. Decide for yourself what you are learning as you explore your building. Taking a learning stance allows you to inquire w/ better questions and engage in the dialogue that values the voices of your talented Ts. #leadupchat
A3: Leadership theory of appreciative inquiry addresses this! And I love a good old-fashioned thank you note. I write at least 4/week. If I can’t think of 4 to write then I know that I did something wrong that week! #leadupchat
Q4: Parent-teacher partnerships are crucial to providing an effective learning environment for students. How can we help teachers develop the skills needed to better communicate with parents? #LeadUpChat
A3: I started doing a #thankyouteachers this week tweeting at our staff just to say thank you. I feel like those are the two words teachers don’t hear enough. #LeadUpChat
Thanks for sharing Mark. We give priority to what we make time for. Our teachers feel value when we help them to have spaces to grow as professionals. #Leadupchat
It’s important to showcase the great things that are happening in our classrooms. Share them loud and proud. Staff meetings, newsletters, social media. #LeadUpChat
#leadupchat A3 Admin NEED to make the time to walk through classrooms EVERY DAY! Take pics of creative lessons and Tweet them. @pinkpatterson excels at this while observing her Trs at @PollyRyonMS
A3: Hm, this is so important. Maybe creating a blog teachers can visit, admin can share out, that shows strategies and artifacts from other teachers in their building. #leadupchat
A3: My School Twitter account is nothing but pictures, videos, and RT of our teachers and kids being awesome. I truly believe if you’re not using Twitter this way you’re doing it wrong. It’s so easy and so powerful. #leadupchat
A3: Share out the celebrations and encourage other teachers to connect & share. Recognize the growth and attempts at becoming better.
Again, it goes back to creating a culture of risk taking and modeling that for teachers. #leadupchat
A3: Our Principal @trey_hosford started the “Golden Apple” award. Each month a different staff member receives this award, keeps it until the following month, then gives it to the next person. It has helped to build a positive culture! ❤️#LeadUpChat
Leadership competence is very important. Just because someone has a title does not make them competent to b the Principal. We must demonstrate we r up to the job, know how to be instructional leaders, lifelong learners, know research, communicators, & love students. #leadupchat
A1. If you aspire to lead because you desire power, do ya all a favor and end your journey now. The leader is always at the mercy of those they serve. People choose to allow you to influence their behavior...or they don’t. #leadupchat
A3: By celebrating everyone. Admin that uses a "spotlight" system is not my deal. I appreciate the shout out but it creates animosity with coworkers (who are working just as hard) Celebrate everything and you should be covered. #leadupchat
A3: So many ways to celebrate! Use Twitter!! To #trendthepositive & #CelebrateMondays - In my staff weekly letters celebrate specific individuals for the quiet things they do #shoutouts Our coaches highlight instructional "Shining Stars" each month for our district! #Leadupchat
#leadupchat A3 So many ways!! Walk-through with little notes, thank you notes for going over and above, shouts outs on e-mail, freedom from a duty, have them lead PD or show off a best practice, roll up their sleeves and jump back in the classroom!
A2: We need to model what we want them to do for their students when they have something they want them to do - model how to do it, show how to integrate into daily practice (what does this replace?), support and scaffold, and then continually protect that time. #LeadUpChat
A3- Our Admin team has a goal of EVERY classroom EVERY day. You have to be in the classrooms to know what is going on. It makes recognizing and celebrating teachers easy! #leadupchat
A3: Much like we do with our SS-Catch them being good. Give positive feedback. Be seen being kind to Ts and Ss. Admin. is in the position of making or breaking the climate of the building.
A3 Coaching and celebrating are essential components for a healthy school environment. Building a culture where all individuals coach each other, school staff takes risks and celebrates learning sets a prime example for students to do the same. #LeadUpChat
A3: Publicly share the great things Ts and Ss are doing! We use Twitter and have our own school hashtag. Our Ss leadership creates a regular news broadcast to share as well! #leadupchat
I love how you said "side-by-side support"! This demonstrates that we are in this together. Effective coaching conversations maximize strengths and manage weaknesses. #leadupchat
A4 For all teachers, especially student teachers like me, its important the leadership team visit the classroom regularity. They need to provide constructive criticism and praise whats working well. #LeadUpChat
A4: I think the main thing here is helping each other understand the importance of this communication. If this communication is missing, it is difficult to do our jobs effectively. Once that's established, we can train Ts who need it on how to better do this. #leadupchat
Biggest administrator mistakes:
1. Forgetting what it was like to be a teacher
2. Thinking all teachers think like they did when they were a teacher
3. Wasting teachers' time
#leadupchat
A3: Provide more #edcamp type opportunities for Ts to shine AND teach others as well as promote positive achievements of Ts via social media! #Leadupchat
A3- Our Admin team has a goal of EVERY classroom EVERY day. You have to be in the classrooms to know what is going on. It makes recognizing and celebrating teachers easy! #leadupchat
A1. If you aspire to lead because you desire power, do yourself a favor and end your journey now. The leader is always at the mercy of those they serve. People choose to allow you to influence their behavior...or they don’t. #leadupchat
@heffrey A3: Do we have a leadership style that is facilitative and collaborative? Or is our leadership style authoritative and focused on compliance? It’s the old saying, “as goes the leader so goes the school. #leadupchat
A3. We do Out of the Blue recognitions at our school. By teachers for teachers. We meet every 2 weeks and teams share the Good, Bad, and Ugly of their efforts. We celebrate our successes with luncheons, bowling, winery trips, and more! . #leadupchat
A4: I think it's about giving Ts and teaching Ts about resources and tools to better communicate with parents for more effective communication #leadupchat
A3: I had a co-teacher who left a note on my desk & she wrote down specifically what she really liked during my lesson. She also attached sweets w/c was a plus. Something this simple, done consistently would be fantastic! And sharing best practices on SM! #leadupchat
A3 For all teachers, especially student teachers like me, its important the leadership team visit the classroom regularity. They need to provide constructive criticism and praise whats working well. #LeadUpChat
A3 Ts should do the same with their Admin. It is often a thankless job. Celebrate each other. Mutual respect, mutual growth = positive culture #WIN for Ss! #LEADUPCHAT
#leadupchat A3- Praising and modeling daily. Every time I have the opportunity I praise teachers for the job they are doing outside and inside the classroom.
A3: I think the greatest thing as a leader that we can do is intentionally find “great” things that teachers are doing! @burgess_shelley in the book @leadlap shares “anchor dropping”. I do this daily and it’s so simple. You need to do it too! #leadupchat
A4) Help Ts identify ways in which they r currently communicating w/parents. Help brainstorm strategies to ensure consistent & frequent communication; showcase Ts who are effective communicators w/parents & share what they do w/staff. #leadupchat
I do that, but I also leave paper notes in classrooms. I frequently find them taped up behind the T's desk. I want them to be able to reflect back on it when they are having a tough day. #leadupchat
A3: Make the time to get out and notice. Praise, praise, praise and thank, thank, thank. Create a culture where Ts acknowledge one another also! #leadupchat
A4 Starting with positive communication first makes other conversations easier. Encouraging the trust relationship by focusing on positives in our own conversations. #leadupchat
A4-
Model! Model with Ts and Ss and Ps. I have a rule, I take all angry parents. My Ts know I have their back and that gives them confidence and allows them to think positively about parent contacts #leadupchat
A3. Being visible is critical to coaching and celebrating. @KentPeterson69 said "What u pay attention to and spend time on communicates what u value." That advice was critical to my "success" as a principal. #leadupchat
A4: Last year on our Friday early releases, we used the 90 minutes once a month for Feedback Fridays- teachers would use the time to call parents and just talk with them about their children. Short conversations that built a connection. #leadupchat
A3: I ❤️ when I get the chance to tell a T to go see another T about what he/she is doing. I don’t have all the answers & can’t show them everything but I can guide them to great ideas & practices w/in our building. #leadupchat
A4: You have to put yourself in their shoes. To listen with empathy. To stress we are a team in the village of raising their child. Never judge. Give the benefit of the doubt. Treat them like family because they are. #LeadUpChat
A3: #leadupchat Brag about your Ts and the great things you see them doing on social media, staff mtgs, newsletters. Like w/kids: catch them doing good & celebrate!
A4: Simple. Model for your teachers how to communicate with parents. So many times I would help Ts craft emails, proof their emails for tone etc if they asked, have them sit in on phone convos so they actually hear how to handle situations. #leadupchat
I think there are benefits to both. Creating an "everyone gets a trophy" culture isn't healthy either. People who are doing great things need to be celebrated. Those who aren't, need to be coached into doing great things, then celebrated. #leadupchat
A4: Sometimes it’s not an issue of skills but rather of time and space. We need to create structures that give teachers opportunities to communicate with parents, and make the path as easy as possible. #leadupchat
I have found many are reluctant to reach out to parents. I have coached Ts in how to make calls home and engage in a focused conversation. Always encourage making positive calls home to build trusting relationships before issues arise. #leadupchat
Q4: Parent-teacher partnerships are crucial to providing an effective learning environment for students. How can we help teachers develop the skills needed to better communicate with parents? #LeadUpChat
A4 I love the idea of positive phone calls home to parents about Ss day. It is easier to make those phone calls when the communication is positive. Build those relationships! #leadupchat

A4 We scaffold student conversations with sentence frames and practice. It wouldn't hurt to have the same sample sentence frames for teachers to use and practice with to improve communication and listening skills with parents. #leadupchat
A4: This is tough because many fear calling Ps it seems, we don't have as much contact at secondary. My internship got me really comfortable really quickly. Support them? Offer to be in room with them? #leadupchat
Q4: Parent-teacher partnerships are crucial to providing an effective learning environment for students. How can we help teachers develop the skills needed to better communicate with parents? #LeadUpChat
Agree. There is so much value in a handwritten note or a face to face conversation. Letting teachers know they matter and are on the right track is crucial. #leadupchat
A3: Leadership theory of appreciative inquiry addresses this! And I love a good old-fashioned thank you note. I write at least 4/week. If I can’t think of 4 to write then I know that I did something wrong that week! #leadupchat
A3b: #PineappleChart is another way to build positive relationships with teachers and admin. Great way to open the doors to sharing! You can visit classrooms pressure free and see the amazing teaching/ learning going on!🍍#LeadUpChat
RTQ4: Parent-teacher partnerships are crucial to providing an effective learning environment for students. How can we help teachers develop the skills needed to better communicate with parents? #LeadUpChat
A3 What if everyone tweeted one thing each day to celebrate what is going on in the classroom, and then read each others tweets? #celebratemonday#leadupchat
A4. Excellent communication is part art, part science. Miscommunication leads to misunderstanding and can easily snowball into resentment or distrust. #leadupchat
A3 - Recognize teachers are humans. Realize every behavior is a result of a situation. Find their strengths and then encourage! It's easy to nit-pick... It's harder to encourage and develop! If we can create a positive culture, we can improve student learning! #LeadUpChat
A3. When you see something in someone that’s awesome, say something. Building authentic relationships increases productivity ten fold. Let people know you appreciate their work and be authentic in your compliments. #leadupchat
A3: I need to prioritize getting myself into the classrooms each&every day. I need to find those nuggets to celebrate while building the emotional bank account w/ Ts enough so that they remember I have their backs & am helping them improve through the feedback I give
#LeadUpChat
@SweeneyDiane reminded us this week we should always be in a learning pit. Being in the pit involves coaching and celebrating. We can celebrate all levels of the pit, not just when out of a bit. The messiness of learning is what should be celebrated. #LeadUpChat
A3 School leaders must be out in the school in classrooms seeing amazing things Ts are doing. Principals in my district highlight what Ts are doing weekly. As a digital learning coach, my team and I highlight amazing ways Ts are using tech for meaningful learning. #leadupchat
A4: Model expectations. Give away templates and scripts. Role play scenarios. Attend phone calls + mtgs w Ts to show how to do it. Team effort #leadupchat
A2 I’ve posted this before but it’s a great read to understand how to increase staff satisfaction & promotes autonomy, choice, trust, and collaboration When Status Quo is a No-Go https://t.co/M0Eh11tkx2#leadupchat
We don’t do enough of that - many get together on the way home on a Friday but small pockets. Would love to expand that - adding this to my to-do list for the week!

#LeadUpChat
A3 ~ Taking the time to catch Ts "shining" & sending a follow up email recognizing their efforts. I also ask Ts to turnkey best practices at our dept mtgs. Prefer the smaller setting of a dept mtg to reduce the pushback of the larger staff that sometimes occurs! #leadupchat
A3: Be in classrooms often to catch Ts shining. Also give positive specific feedback, schoolwide and individual shoutouts, offer leadership opportunities, say thank you and/or show gratitude through random acts of kindness. #teachersrock#leadupchat
A4. Let’s give them some options on ways to collaborate. Let’s provide them with tools on how to ascertain how their P’s want to be communicated with. Cause situations where the adults are forming bonds that can only benefit kids. #LeadUpChat
A3: I shared this earlier but will share it again: 30 second feedback. Build a routine of being in classrooms and following up with a quick note: TY for letting me be in your classroom. I saw "this" and "this" is the impact that had on learning. Way to go! #leadupchat
Coaching should provide a spectrum of experiences - modeling for some, reinforcing for others & spotlighting what’s possible for some! We need to differentiate for our teachers. But coaching requires great skill! #LeadUpChat
A4: PRACTICE! Have teachers bring the names of a few students to faculty meeting then have them leave meeting to go make a positive phone call. Come back and share how it went. #LeadUpChat
A4: Many teachers think that when they send info home they are communication. But communication goes 2ways. They also need to ask for responses and feedback from parents. Scary I know, but so important #leadupchat
A4: Showcase strong examples, share your thoughts on the subject and discuss with those who would benefit most. When your expectations are clear, staff can work with you in moving the conversation in 1 direction, otherwise, disruption occurs. #LeadUpChat
Q4: Parent-teacher partnerships are crucial to providing an effective learning environment for students. How can we help teachers develop the skills needed to better communicate with parents? #LeadUpChat
A4: show teachers how communicating with parents can be a great thing. I try to email home positive e-mails weekly, keep parents updated on my Facebook page, and share the awesome things we do in class. This makes relationships thrive! #leadupchat
A4.2: Provide stems that help start a conversation. Don’t talk about scores, talk about the kid. What did he/she do that was stellar this week? Every kid did something well this week. If not, we need to change what we’re looking for. #leadupchat#JoyfulLeaders
A3. Being visible to cultivate celebration and coaching includes walk thrus that are not "snoopervising." Teachers and students should expect to see principals daily express verbal and written support (specific comments) to celebrate what is working for students. #leadupchat
A1. It happens naturally when individuals have authority over a group. It creates a tension of "them" and "us". The more admins share leadership the better conditions and trust are able to develop. #leadupchat@UD_DASL
A4: Face time and regular communication is important for building relationships with parents, and that can be a challenge. We began a grade-level family night once a month to help bridge the home/school divide. #leadupchat
A4: we need to model it to them! Super simple. When we communicate effectively and share daily with those we lead, those we lead grow and know they can trust us because we care about them. Teachers then can use that leadership to connect with parents and do the same! #leadupchat
A4: We set goals at the beginning on the year with Family Communicaiton. Every student would have AT LEAST one positive call home! I try and model it as well. I have made 534 positive calls homes to date this year! #LeadUpChat
A4 make it known to all Ts that you will help them respond to any communication, and all we have to do is forward it or write a draft and we can expect help. I've had this both years I've taught and I love it. It has helped me learn and grow too #leadupchat
A4 Important that we demonstrate effective, partner-based conversations with Ps for our team members. They should see us facilitating these discussions and model their approach after what they have observed. #leadupchat
A4: Model proven techniques; from Ts or admin. Let people share their stories and persuade others to try something new. Promote experiments and speak with parents about what works! #Leadupchat
A3: Lead with genuine praise and authentic feedback. T’s will always shine when their work is valued and they are given guidance (with support) on how to continue to grow.
#leadupchat
Q4: Parent-teacher partnerships are crucial to providing an effective learning environment for students. How can we help teachers develop the skills needed to better communicate with parents? #LeadUpChat
A3: A3: We must be present if we want to genuinely celebrate staff & have a positive impact! Being present builds trust if the focus is supporting teachers thru positive relationships. Remember, how we say it is more important than what we say (including nonverbal)! #leadupchat
We use our Tiger Time for this - 60 minute flex period in the middle of the day. Allows for collaboration during school day and for our PLCs to investigate their EQ’s while our brains are still fresh. #leadupchat
A4: I struggled with a difficult parent in the past, & I asked for help from my principal. He listened & gave me advice, & he even offered to sit in during the meeting to support. The thing is, I came forward when I needed help. Ts have to speak up! #LeadUpChat
Q4: Parent-teacher partnerships are crucial to providing an effective learning environment for students. How can we help teachers develop the skills needed to better communicate with parents? #LeadUpChat
That is so true! It does get a lot easier. Parents are always so happy when they hear it is positive and it is such a relationship builder. #leadupchat
A4: Simple. Model for your teachers how to communicate with parents. So many times I would help Ts craft emails, proof their emails for tone etc if they asked, have them sit in on phone convos so they actually hear how to handle situations. #leadupchat
I love this idea! At one time we had an oar in each building in the district given to a staff member to represent their team player mindset (all rowing in the same direction). They signed and displayed for the month. #leadupchat
A4) Too often, we don't reach out to parents until there is something upsetting to share. How can that foster a positive, collaborative relationship?
If we want collaborative relationships, we must encourage Ts to being the conversation with a positive report.
#leadupchat
A4: As teachers we are often pretty good at building relationships with our students, co-workers, administrators, but we forget about the importance of building the same relationships with parents. Take time to establish the same concepts of trust and communication. #leadupchat
Q4: Parent-teacher partnerships are crucial to providing an effective learning environment for students. How can we help teachers develop the skills needed to better communicate with parents? #LeadUpChat
RTQ4: Parent-teacher partnerships are crucial to providing an effective learning environment for students. How can we help teachers develop the skills needed to better communicate with parents? #LeadUpChat
R4- Definitely encourage weekly parental contact; I ask teachers to graciously submit a weekly parental log to include positive calls as well as areas of concern for their student #leadupchat
A4: Positive phone calls & notes are relationship builders. Use of social media- classtoom Twitter, Insta & FB, or @ClassDojo can be used daily to share your Ss story with Ps. 🙌#leadupchat
A4: I love doing "fish bowl" activities. So much fun to role play and hear over the top interactions. Allow for humor and then bring the serious discussion of what might cause an interaction to go sideways. Collab ideas/practices to support communication. #leadupchat
Q4: Parent-teacher partnerships are crucial to providing an effective learning environment for students. How can we help teachers develop the skills needed to better communicate with parents? #LeadUpChat
#leadupchat A4 The Tr / Parent relationship is strengthened when the parent KNOWS the Tr loves their child. Make your classroom a dynamic experience. Create experiences that your Ss will go home and tell their parents about. Attached letter is powerful. #WhyWeTeach
Exactly Caroline! They it’s lonely at the top, but I don’t believe it has to be if we as Ldrs share the why, work & recognition. Too many Ldrs want ALL the glory & usually starts every convo with “I put this together...I did this as a teacher...”. Very off putting. #leadupchat
A4: Basically, Ts who do this need to share the positives that have come out of the practice. This is my soapbox. Let parents know that you want their help, that you are a team, helping their child to be successful at school.
Q3. I think to coach we need to put relationships first. Take time to build the relationship up, celebrate victories&then give feedback-it will be taken as a more positive opportunity for growth rather than a harsh cirque. Build a collaborative environment! #LeadUpChat
A4) Stop allowing office staff to speak negatively about parents or staff or kids in an open public place. We all need to vent just one in one. Have a modeling phone call in a staff meeting. Provide a phone call starter or template. #LeadUpChat
A4: With creative, fun (even silly) role playing games. Taking the implicit awkwardness out of these conversations before they happen can go a long way. #leadupchat
A4 the teacher parent conversations that go well are not the struggle-its when the conversations is hard that many will avoid-we need to support this and help develop skills to have hard conversations #leadupchat
A4: Example first, be out in the halls interacting not behind your office door like it is the castle wall. Be at events, be in the community. Teachers will follow the lead negative or positive. #leadupchat
Q4: Parent-teacher partnerships are crucial to providing an effective learning environment for students. How can we help teachers develop the skills needed to better communicate with parents? #LeadUpChat
A4: We changed our Parent Teacher Conferences to Franklin Family Conferences. We provided dinner, childcare, educational games, & had a raffle. We had 95% attendance. It's all about the relationships! #LeadUpChat
A4 Joe in WI joining late. Model the type of comm. you want staff to build w/ families. Let teachers heard YOU talk about conversations you've had with families (sharing content as appropriate). #Leadupchat
A3: I love making learning visible and so value leaders who shine a light on what they learn when observing classes. It models the practice and celebrates Teachers and Students...and costs little effort
#leadupchat
A4: Include the importance of parent teacher relationships and tips on how to be effective in a regular meeting or whenever other important points are being brought up. #leadupchat
RTQ4: Parent-teacher partnerships are crucial to providing an effective learning environment for students. How can we help teachers develop the skills needed to better communicate with parents? #LeadUpChat
A3. Building authentic relationships as the leader requires humility, vulnerability, honesty, and openness. I’m not afraid to say: I’m sorry. I messed up. I failed. Strong leaders are strong enough to be vulnerable. #leadupchat
A4) Make it a primary professional development goal and integrate it into everything they do. And recruit parents to build those partnerships--the whole point is that it's a two-way street! #leadupchat
Q4: Parent-teacher partnerships are crucial to providing an effective learning environment for students. How can we help teachers develop the skills needed to better communicate with parents? #LeadUpChat
Agree, Danny. Providing practice on various situations helps our team members know how to respond, how to stay focus on the subject, and how to communicate a disposition of support #leadupchat
We use our Tiger Time for this - 60 minute flex period in the middle of the day. Allows for collaboration during school day and for our PLCs to investigate their EQ’s while our brains are still fresh. #leadupchat
A4: This is another great one! I think again we need to remember we are all on the same team! Since communication is part of the 4C's for our students, its not a bad idea to cover communication with our Ts! Mentor Ts could help facilitate this! #leadupchat
A4: We need to model good communication with her parents first. Second, we should really work side-by-side with new teachers to help them Hone that skill. Maybe that means joining a conference or two.#leadupchat
A3: By making time for "real" conversations. By actively listening and collaborating. By asking how you can better support your staff and then following up. #leadupchat
#leadupchat A4 The Tr / Parent relationship is strengthened when the parent KNOWS the Tr loves their child. Make your classroom a dynamic experience. Create experiences that your Ss will go home and tell their parents about. Attached letter is powerful. #WhyWeTeach
A4: All families are different, and this difference can cause trepidation in teacher communication. But EVERY family cares about their child's safety and sense of belonging. They want to know the teacher likes their kid. Start there. #leadupchat
A4: Some teachers have a misconception built on the experience of a few. Changing the mindset that we are partners in education with our parents plays a big role in confidence with their communication. Mindset/relationships play a big role! #leadupchat
A4 - With parent communication - my tone, word choice and style changed drastically once I was a parent myself. Consider asking mentor teachers to partner with younger teachers to brainstorm best practices. #leadupchat
A5: Your presence + mentorship. Listen. Listen. Listen. Ask the right questions. Set goals. Reflect on progress toward self determined goals. Celebrate small as well as large wins. #leadupchat
I foolishly took 6 years of French (not that I can do that either - although I can ask how to get to the library!) One of these days I need to learn Spanish! #leadupchat
A3: I think Admin need to be in the classroom to see those shining moments. Sending a teacher an email or sharing a tweet that celebrates the shining moment can foster a positive culture. #LeadUpChat
I'm on it. Appreciate the push. I would say check in with me later this month to see how it's going but I don't know about all that...but for real, check in. :-) #leadupchat
A3 Has your admin ever called your mom or spouse from your classroom as let them know what an awesome teacher you are? It’s cool. Everyone wins. #leadupchat
A4: Some teachers have a misconception built on the experience of a few. Changing the mindset that we are partners in education with our parents plays a big role in confidence with their communication. Mindset/relationships play a big role! #leadupchat
A4: We tell teachers...
To reply in a timely manner.
To have someone else proofread their letters/emails.
To communicate in a positive manner. #leadupchat
RTQ4: Parent-teacher partnerships are crucial to providing an effective learning environment for students. How can we help teachers develop the skills needed to better communicate with parents? #LeadUpChat
A4: Model the communication you want to see. Ts must see the value in reaching out to parents. Parents and teachers are partners and work as a team. Communication is crucial when the focus is their child. #leadupchat
Absolutely! As you can see, my student tech leadership group are stepping outside of their comfort circle and adding their own videos! #leadupchat#FlipgridFever
A5: Specific praise. Everyone loves to hear not only THAT they're doing a great job but WHAT they're doing a great job with.
Coaching can be convos or modeling lessons. Maybe pairing a T who needs some help up w/ a T who has a strength in the area of struggle. #leadupchat
It's more difficult at secondary level, I would agree. I find it's initiated either by parent or teacher and on an as needed basis. EMail and phone calls too. #leadupchat
A4. We need to avoid educational jargon, often used to confuse or intimidate parents. Simple explanations r really the result of complex thinking, which teachers must engage in. Some basics: smile when we c parents, thank them 4 visits, show S work, not just grades.
#LeadUpChat
A4 A positive school culture must be cultivated involving the community. This culture should emphasize the importance of families and parents in the education process. Yes Ts are experts in their fields but Ps are experts of their children. #leadupchat
Gosh I did it all the time so Ts hear how I have their backs but also language to problem solve & respond especially if parents are upset. “What I hear you say...” normally comes across as patronizing to parents. Ts need better language to diffuse situations. #leadupchat
Q4. I don’t think it’s skill, I think it’s fear of reaching out & hearing what a parent has to say. And in that case the Ts &school as a whole hasn’t made the point yet to the community that “ we care, we’re here for the kids! We want them to be the best they can be!” #LeadUpChat
A4: Role Play! I know it can feel awkward, but one of the best strategies for adult learners is to Role Play. Draft some scenarios. Provide a "recipe" for an effective conversation. Model the "recipe". Then have teachers Role Play the conversation with trusted peers.
#LeadUpChat
I rarely get phone calls as a parent, and while I'm underwhelmed with family engagement from the school, I don't need a phone call per se. I want to be in the loop on a regular basis, and tech offers that. #leadupchat
A5 Rocking it or struggliny, all feedback can be approached the same way. Share the impact of the positive things they do and ask questions to help them reflect and grow in the areas to improve. Strengths can always be sharpened #Leadupchat.
A4 model with your staff good communication. Possibly sit in with them during some parent meetings. Give them some good ideas about sharing class celebrations. #leadupchat
A3 Has your admin ever called your mom or spouse from your classroom as let them know what an awesome teacher you are? It’s cool. Everyone wins. #leadupchat
A4: Clearly defining family involvement vs. family engagement is critical. Parents long for strategies on how to better support their kids at home. Create a culture of collaborative learning where families learn skills they can readily use at home. #LeadUpChat
Encouraged - ask them if they mind having another T come watch to observe. With this you can actually do both. It all comes down to the relationships! #LeadUpChat
A3. Don’t confuse support with false compliments. You can’t celebrate accomplishments you don’t know about and haven’t seen. Be VISIBLE so you don’t find yourself giving generic “Great job!” type feedback. Ugh. #leadupchat
Special events like lunch with your child gets parents to school. It doesn't have to be a scripted event with a presentation. Sometimes just getting them to school to feel the culture is enough. #leadupchat
After the call, we then debrief & I ask for feedback from Ts as well as discuss next steps to relieve situation & strategies the teacher can use moving forward. #leadupchat
I love the post-observation meeting when we get the positive, but also the suggestions. I want to hear how I can improve MORE than what I did well. #leadupchat
A5: My job is to be the cheerleader when they are killing it and the coach when they need support. Control your narrative! Be relentless in sharing the highlights and the growth. Can't have one without the other. #leadupchat
A5 Rocking it or struggling, all feedback can be approached the same way. Share the impact of the positive things they do and ask questions to help them reflect and grow in the areas to improve. Strengths can always be sharpened #Leadupchat.
A5: We have Jackson P.R.I.D.E. Awards for staff (Passion, Resilience, Integrity, Dedication, and Excellence) Staff nominate each other and I announce a few winners each week including what their colleague wrote about them. Every staff member will get recognized. #leadupchat
A2. The principal must value collaboration and build the time into the schedule--not an add on. Collaboration around an instructional foucus is a professional learning experience for all engaged. #leadupchat@UD_DASL
Q2: How do we help create the space for teachers to have more collaborative conversations and professional learning without adding "one more thing" to their plate? #LeadUpChat
A5: Encourage Ts with face to face acknowledgement and specific praise. Coach teachers to improve after you’ve built a positive, trusting relationship so that they know you care about them as people #leadupchat
Networking is more than just getting someone business card and exchanging a couple ideas. You to have follow up and build on those relationships without having hidden motives.
#leadupchat A5 If admin publically praise one Tr they need to make sure ALL their staff receives a chance. Some Trs will be bitter if they are doing things not noticed. Admin needs to create a culture of POSITIVE. Redirecting Trs should be done in a positive way.
A4: I try. and tweet about our teachers as much as possible. They are ALWAYS doing AMAZING things, so it is fun for me to celebrate with them & enjoy those precious moments that I am lucky enough to be a part of! #Leadupchat
A5: "I LOVE the way you taught that lesson! Can I share that with _____?" "I see that you're struggling with teaching _____. Here are some ideas that worked for me when I was in the classroom." #leadupchat
A5: When teachers are killing it you can show their success by sharing it to the world. I have added the practice of videotaping great things teachers do and making videos of them in action and bragging on them- here is one: https://t.co/v3ho4S0jDX : #leadupchat
I have been surprised by how often teachers will support me with kind words about some little thing that happened. Often they appreciate the unplanned day to day stuff that maximizes positive culture. I appreciate the personal notes & private convos! #leadupchat
A5: I think recognition goes a long way. A simple acknowledgement may be the only one they've had in a while. A quick note in their box, an email, a tweet shout out. Coaching during needed guidance DEMANDS an established relationship of #trust and #honor#leadupchat
A4. I loved using student centered conferences. They helped me see the connections between parent and child. Gave me new understanding on how to communicate with both. Provided student ownership on learning and sharing growth. #LeadUpChat
On behalf of all parents... thank you for all you do. That kind of effort sends a broader message of inclusion and partnership even beyond the content of what you're sharing. #leadupchat
Asking questions is key. Let them find their own ways to improve. One favorite: How could you make that lesson even better than it already is? #leadupchat
A5 Rocking it or struggling, all feedback can be approached the same way. Share the impact of the positive things they do and ask questions to help them reflect and grow in the areas to improve. Strengths can always be sharpened #Leadupchat.
A5: For coaching I use the starter: "Have you ever thought of/about..." That opens up the convo for them to ask Q and it's not forcing anything on them. #leadupchat
Thanks for a great conversation tonight! As a student teacher I've grown my PLN more today! It's late evening in Perth Western Australia 1116pm. Have a great weekend all, take time out for yourselves! #LeadUpChat
A4. With parents it is critical to ask them 4 advice, what r they seeing at home, end meetings on a positive note, show student work, exchange ways to communicate. The non-verbals are critical, use welcoming body language (e.g., folded arms send a negative message). #leadupchat
Yes, very true! My oldest child's teacher uses @Remind and my youngest child's teacher uses @ClassDojo Both keep me in the know of what is taking place in my kids classrooms. #leadupchat
A5: Teachers need encouragement and know they are valued when they are killin' it & when they hit the road blocks. Give them tools to keep killin' it or to start. #leadupchat
A5: Teachers love rewards that give them time back. Give them a duty fre week. When you’re coaching someone struggling you have to have a positive outcome ie I want help you work smarter not harder or something on those lines. #leadupchat
Q5 & Q6: In my district I am striving to create programs that empower Ts to use Twitter and instructional tech in an effective and positive way. Promote and support users and award them with accolades! #Leadupchat
A5. One way to encourage a teacher who does a great job is to elevate the compliment up the command chain. Tell your boss about the person who is doing awesome work and let them know you did. #leadupchat
A4: Model, model again & then model some more! It all goes back to relationships & supports. We also must front end load the “why” for some teachers; that’s okay! I have role played parent meetings w/teachers & will always make myself available to attend meetings. #leadupchat
A5: Subtle note in the mailbox, maybe even a little treat. Positive reinforcement haha To coach do it with grace and a message of help. Teachers want to improve for their Ss. What they don't want is to be reminded they are dropping the ball by unsupportive leadership #leadupchat
THIS is it! Listen, Ask Questions, Reflect, and Celebrate! Works for rock star teachers, those that need coaching and all those in between. #leadupchat
A5: Your presence + mentorship. Listen. Listen. Listen. Ask the right questions. Set goals. Reflect on progress toward self determined goals. Celebrate small as well as large wins. #leadupchat
Don't "Oreo" teachers with just an occasional glow and grow. Let's be present - be a coach 95% of the time and "evaluative" 5% of the time. Hard to be approachable when wear the supervisor "hat" all the time. #Leadupchat
A5: “I am just not doing enough,” said no teacher ever! I don’t know many teachers that aren’t giving it all they have everyday! Making it the right work is the key!! #leadupchat
A5: As a leader we love the "high fives" but it's the difficult convos we avoid. The leaders I remember most vividly were the ones willing to make the corrections. It is all about the delivery, don't be the best, make the best. #leadupchat
Totally agree. And it wont happen until the obnoxious horniness with data is addressed. Ts are being told they need MORE data than ever before so they can differentiate 28 ways, moment-to-moment in order to be effective. #leadupchat
After the call, we then debrief & I ask for feedback from Ts as well as discuss next steps to resolve situation & strategies the teacher can use moving forward. #leadupchat
A5 In this case, one size does not fit all. When our Ts are doing well we have to know how they prefer to receive recognition. Likewise, for when they need coaching. This requires a time investment to get to know our people - leads to strengthened relationships #leadupchat
R5- Ask t's to share their success & invite their colleagues to incorporate what appears to work. As it relates to crucial conversation, first build trust, then find ways to offer feedback that will enable t's to move from good to great all while nurturing them #LeadUpChat
A5 - Make a conscientious effort to recognize great teaching (email, staff meeting or just a compliment). To encourage coaching, ask what you can do to support and then LISTEN. Build positive relationships so the difficult conversations are viewed as constructive. #LeadUpChat
A5: Highlight what they do with staff, parents, kids. If they need guidance sit along side them and discuss area of improvement and let them know that together we will overcome this hurdle. #leadupchat
A5.2: When teachers struggle, listen to them, hear their struggle, help them find a way forward. Be present not to catch them but to see them in action and offer guidance. Even the best teachers struggle. #leadupchat
A5: I think it's unfair to mislead a teacher (just like it would be a student) in thinking everything is "fine". They need to know! I am honest w/ my Ss. #leadupchat
That's good. I also like the approach "on a scale of x to x where are you?" Whatever number they say, "What can we do to get to the next number?" Always think forward. #Leadupchat
.@LindseyGrahamSC, who attacked Trump for "s***hole" comment, in 2013: "The people coming across the southern border live in HELLHOLES. They don’t like that. They want to come here. Our problem is we can’t have everybody in the world who lives in a HELLHOLE come to America."
A5: My admin has an open door, a jar of chocolate, and patience in listening, coaching and empathizing. That helps a lot. They are also eager to share out T and S successes. Thank you for that, @PrincipalLand and @ForakerT#leadupchat
A5 Coaching comes on both ends of the spectrum. Teachers who are doing well benefit from coaching. If we only coach those who “need guidance” coaching is view as something that fixes. Our best athletes have multiple coaches. #LeadUpChat
Confession: Sometimes I get annoyed with the whole be positive movement. Not because I think we shouldn’t be positive, but just because I feel like it perpetuates a lack of authenticity sometimes. Keep it real. 💯 #leadupchat
A5 Try to keep feedback focused on the positive effect on students in the classroom. Next step improvement conversations are easier if focused on student growth. #leadupchat
A5: I think the first step is helping teachers see themselves as leaders. Leaders of learning. Through distributive leadership and elbow learning we build a culture of WE and OUR. And together we shift culture and practice as needed. #leadupchat
A5: My written feedback is based on the PBIS 4:1 positive to constructive feedback I use for Ss. I love to 1st recognize strengths of all Ts. I also think it is important to use thought provoking questions for all Ts to promote continuous improvement (coaching). #leadupchat
We have done great things in education to help international students feel welcomed into our schools, but we have done a poor job at welcoming students from different regions of the U.S into U.S Schools. Chew on it first.#edchat#leadupchat
We do a lot to promote Ts Leadership. Coaches and Ts facilitate PD and lead collaborative subcommittees comprised of a variety of staff and Admin. Really build a professional culture and strong relationships. #leadupchat
A4: Even The most exemplary teacher would appreciate constructive feedback. Informal walk-throughs and formal observations should be common practice. Post-observation conferences should be seamless in communicating this feedback. It’s should all tie together. #LeadUpChat
A5: Something as simple as an authentic investment in time goes a long way in both cases. A listening ear and access to supportive resources goes a long way. #leadupchat
I will have social studies openings next year in #BurkburnettISD. Apply now for the best spots and I’ll call your dad and everyone in your PLC. #Leadupchat
A5: Speak up when you see good work. Don't take that moment for granted...ever. Coaching needs to be done with respect. Private conversations where you ask a few carefully crafted questions can do great things. Be a helper. Listen and share #leadupchat
So Insightful! Some of my best teachers...with amazingly engaging plans and thoughtful learner activities...the ones I’d want my own kids to have- they aren’t always comfortable in discourse with colleagues. Let alone parents. #LeadUpChat
A5: We adopted BLP or Best Learning Practices. We visit classrooms but we tell teachers to give us their favorite/best lesson. At the end of the day we share it with the staff. #leadupchat
A5: Sharing when a T is killing it publicly and having a private conversation with the T when there is an area of growth that needs to be discussed. Admin needs to come with a strategy to that meeting. #LeadUpChat
As the leader, you're not expected to be an expert on everything. Few things disengage teams more than having their sense of value & self-worth undercut because the boss limits their contribution to just following instructions.
#rethinkleadershiphttps://t.co/ktpgVcxiFf
A5: Highilght successes with a personal thank you, special note and showcase in your memo or tweet using your school hashtag on SM.
Notes and personal conversations always work in every situation. Let's make it personal because it is. #leadupchat
A4: 1/2 We can start by calling them “family conferences.” Many of my students have families that don’t include parents, they’re being raised by grandparents, aunts etc. Admin can make this small but important change tomorrow. #leadupchat
I have our tech specialist @Jscoppa next door and it makes me try new things because I know he is right there to help !#leadupchat
Our librarian @PMMSLibrary is also amazing!
A5. As for coaching up, I like to use reflective questioning: Is this representative of your best effort? What do you think you can do differently? How might I better support you to help you improve? #leadupchat
Where you focus your energy is an investment in your school’s culture. Invest in those who are rockin’ it. Invest in those who are ready to rock it but need some help. Invest in those who can rock it some day. Your staff will thank you and your kids will benefit. #leadupchat
A5: the coaching mindset and actions associated really creates a relationship of growth. There are ways of growing this ability, just like any other skill. It is in the approach and clear expectations from jump. #LeadUpChat
A3. Coaching one another should be the way we do our work. A lead teacher coaching a less experienced teacher or a new teacher sharing a unique skill by coaching more experienced teachers should be the norm--and the P must coach and cheer!! #leadupchat
Challenge of the job sometimes you have to be real and have a hard honest-not so positive conversation. looking for the positive does not mean we need to ignore things that need to be changed #leadupchat
A5-We can't just tell them to try this and walk away expecting it to happen. Conversations should build upon one another. Acknowledge strengths and effort and talk about suggestions together. Area I am still working on. #leadupchat
A5: we use our data to celebrate teachers effectiveness with the level of students they have. Every school in risd has a chance to be number 1 #eukolos#LeadUpChat
Great point. For example, I love any use of social media to demonstrate what's happening in the classroom, but it'd be even more effective as a conversation. #leadupchat
A4: Many teachers think that when they send info home they are communication. But communication goes 2ways. They also need to ask for responses and feedback from parents. Scary I know, but so important #leadupchat
A5 Coaching comes on both ends of the spectrum. Teachers who are doing well benefit from coaching. If we only coach those who “need guidance” coaching is view as something that fixes. Our best athletes have multiple coaches. #LeadUpChat
A4 Use social media to tell the classroom community's story. @Seesaw is a dynamite tool for communication, curating student portfolios & facilitating families as partners. #leadupchat
So true! Asking myself, “what am I learning here?” Really helps my focus and allows me to better acknowledge strengths, while asking questions that are truly fueling my thoughts. Dialogue is the key here! #leadupchat
A6: I'm in classrooms every chance I get. Daily, maybe hourly. Most of the time I'm in classrooms, it's to see the Ss and say hello to the T. When we have focused on bldg healthy, authentic, meaningful relationships w/ them first, the microscope feeling goes away. #leadupchat
As we reflect on our practice and the relationships we have with our teachers we must ask, is our end goal compliance or a commitment to high levels of school connectedness and learning? w/@BClarksonTX#LeadUpChat#edchat#satchat
A5. As for coaching up, I like to use reflective questioning: Is this representative of your best effort? What do you think you can do differently? How might I better support you to help you improve? #leadupchat
I think you would love the book Student Centered Leadership by Viviane Robinson. We don't build trust by avoiding difficult convos. We use open to learning conversations to build trust while tackling the tough stuff together. #leadupchat
A6: I am just a teacher with aspirations haha I love popping in to my coworkers rooms just to see what is going on during prep times #leadupchat Good learning for me
A5: I always appreciated when my principal/admin gave me honest assessments when I did great and when I had room to grow. I try to do the same now. It’s hard sometimes to have those direct conversations, but wishing for change helps no one. #leadupchat
For my kids school, it is a combined effort of parents giving feedback to our Ts that is valuable with lots of thank yous for the great updates and pictures we receive from time to time. #leadupchat
A5: Ts don't always see the positive things going on; I try to capture these things & remind them of all their goodness--be their biggest cheerleader. Help Ts grow in the same way we would help Ss grow when we were Ts. Feedback, assistance, support, practice, etc. #leadupchat
A4 2/2 Also, give Ts a format such as- 1. Start with S strengths 2. Summarize key goals for grade level 3. Present clear data of S progress 4. Contextualize data by giving examples of proficient student work etc. admin can model a successful conference too. #Leadupchat
A5: #leadupchat Notice strengths & growths in Ts and share articles/blogs that would support their efforts. Doesn't have to be a negative. "I saw to try ___ in class & thought you might be interested in this article"
A5. Consistency concerning "killing it"& needing "guidance" is critical. T r much more willing to receive coaching when trust has already been built up because the P has complimented them PREVIOUSLY 4 good work. Building trust is a "bank" 4 criticism is to be heeded. #leadupchat
A6: I often try to side by side with kids and work with them while at the same time getting my observation done...convos w/kids really allow me to see what’s happening in the room. #leadupchat
A6: (though I mentioned this earlier) Be a no-notes/no-tech observer. Think like a student: "Could I learn here? Do I feel safe/respected here?"
#LeadUpChat
A5: In my district I have made it a priority to promote and highlight positive and effective uses of instructional tech and social media. Through these programs, it is my goal to #empower others! #leadupchat
I think hard conversations aren't as fun to talk about at the positive things but those are the ones that are the levers of change-its about the coach hard / coach soft balance #leadupchat
A6 Visit everyday if possible. Share quick reflection of the time and say thank you often. Make the process the norm not the "Gotcha" exception. #LEADUPCHAT
A5 Honestly #leadupchat I just have to say how blessed we all are, & I feel especially blessed, to be able to pause my answering and just read these AMAZING responses. thank you all 4 offering input, solutions, ideas & your personal thoughts/stories. I love this movement & topic!
Q4: Parent-teacher partnerships are crucial to providing an effective learning environment for students. How can we help teachers develop the skills needed to better communicate with parents? #LeadUpChat
A5: Relationships are the foundation of what we do right, but another term needs to be revisited - Value!
✨A fantastic way to empower those you lead is by demonstrating that you value their expertise, time 📆 & rhythm & decisions. Makes all convos easier with Ts! #LeadUpChat
Q4. We know that some teachers are really good at this. Why don't we ask them to model or provide PD to those who are uncomfortable & less experienced. We have so much talent in our schools. #leadupchat@UD_DASL
Q4: Parent-teacher partnerships are crucial to providing an effective learning environment for students. How can we help teachers develop the skills needed to better communicate with parents? #LeadUpChat
I'm in classrooms daily...most of the time without a computer or there to do a "formal" walk through. I love seeing what kids are learning and for teachers to know I care about their awesome classroom. I can't speak about what I don't know. #Bepresent#Leadupchat
A6: I often try to side by side with kids and work with them while at the same time getting my observation done...convos w/kids really allow me to see what’s happening in the room. #leadupchat
A5: I think admin can help Ts realize the positive things they contribute in the classroom. Ts don’t see them usually. Creating an action plan for Ts can also help when coaching for guidance. #LeadUpChat
A6. Love the work of @RLGMike using frequent positive 30 second feedback everytime in classroom. Makes it less of an "event" when P is there and creates culture of appreciation, feedback on craft rather than critique. #LeadUpChat
A5: We start our staff meetings with celebrations! It sets a tone of positivity and supports relationships by demonstrating that “we care”! On a daily basis, I believe high fives and personal feedback are the backbone to recognition as they require you to be present! #leadupchat
A6: I visited daily. Would share my @evernnote notes & leave a @voxer voice memo every time. I would only share praises and a question to reflect on. This removes judgement and makes the whole process more valuable. #leadupchat
Yep! See the good and celebrate it. See the need and address it. Use open to learning conversations to build trust while tackling the tough stuff. #leadupchat
A6: I block out times to just casually visit classrooms and usually try to be in the hall during passing periods. I go in with nothing except myself and a smile!
#leadupchat
We want our teachers at Liberty to take more ownership of their data. So we created a new way to deliver it. Make it simplistic, easier, and more meaningful to the teacher. #leadupchat
4. No consistency - Flip flopping on procedures/expectations. 5. Assuaging feelings but not providing authentic feedback & support to facilitate professional growth. #leadupchat
Very well. My experience is that people struggling know they are and want help. They just want that help to be about moving forward not dwelling on the past. #leadupchat
A6: From a teacher perspective: Come and come often. Stay and learn with us. The more you are present the more comfortable Ts and Ss feel when you enter. I value the time admin joins in! #leadupchat
Yes...I regularly go into classrooms (even if it's for 45 seconds) just to see what's going on and check in. No note-taking, no tech in hand. 9/10 times it's a relationally-focused visit for both Ss and Ts. #leadupchat
It still works if you coach and mentor, then celebrate the risks that they are willing to make. It motivated some to want to try something new #leadupchat
I keep observations nonjudgemental so that doesn’t happen. Creating a culture of trust where feedback goes both ways, defensiveness isn’t really an issue. My staff know I ask ?s and they can ask them of me. #Leadupchat
A1: I shared this during the week but it’s worth repeating particularly for this Q. Traditional mindset is Ldr is the expert & that’s never been true nor will it fly now. Admin must empower Ts in actionable ways & not with just words. Share Ldrship decisions/tasks. #Leadupchat
A6: I think teachers feel they are under a microscope when visited because they are not use to it. If we make “just checking in” more common and equal to every classroom this might change the negative connotation of class visits. #leadupchat
Compliance to me is an ugly word. Anybody with me? Would love to hear your thoughts. If you are talking compliance you've moved from leadership + inspiration to management via power + intimidation. Thoughts #leadupchat
As we reflect on our practice and the relationships we have with our teachers we must ask, is our end goal compliance or a commitment to high levels of school connectedness and learning? w/@BClarksonTX#LeadUpChat#edchat#satchat
A6: The goal is every day. I don't just sit in the back and watch. I try to get involved in the lesson and always leave the T w/ feedback and some positivity. Focusing more on Ss helps make things feel more natural for the teacher & myself. #leadupchat
A5. It is critical that every day principals let teachers know their work is sacred. Teaching is a calling, principals SERVE teachers and students, it is not the other way around. A great teacher is a treasure, & principals need to let teachers & parents know that. #leadupchat
People often think of leading as something you do to ppl "below" you in an org structure. Its just as important to lead peers and those "above". Influence and leadership can and should affect everyone around you. #leadupchat
A1. Leadership isn’t exclusive to a title or position. It’s about what you do, the actions you take, and how your behavior influences others-if you’ve earned the permission to do so. #leadupchat
A6: I try to get in every day. Most are not formal in any way. I want Ts to be comfortable with my presence & I want to be able to defend their practices/help support efforts when needed. We become partners. #leadupchat
NOT this was a BIG FAT LIE put out
by Dick Durban because Durban Graham Flake expanded Amnesty
"Hugely" Trump said NO
so they retaliated Trump actually said "Third World"
Durban Graham added colorful word Democrat Congressional Staffer leaked to NBC & WaPo✔
A4: Sometimes it’s not an issue of skills but rather of time and space. We need to create structures that give teachers opportunities to communicate with parents, and make the path as easy as possible. #leadupchat
A5 Invite Ts to share out w/their colleagues when they are killing it! Encourage reflection in Ts that need a little "extra". Start w/strengths and how to use them to improve. #leadupchat
A5: Make sure that your feedback is about them, not you. If you use, "I loved the way you did....." It makes it about you not them. Always be positive, specific, & timely. It they are killin it, MAKE SURE THEY KNOW IT ASAP!!!!! #Leadupchat
Overall, we need to seek understanding. Teachers should try to see the big picture challenges of the school. Admin should never forget the daily challenges of the classroom. #leadupchat
A6: This is 100% reliant on the relationships you hold with your teachers. If administrators are office dwellers, the teachers instantly assume they are under a gun. Yet, if a leader is always out and visiting, it is a reassurance they are there for support. #leadupchat
You are in my brain. I could not agree more. I wish educators would stop giving the rainbow sunshine version of the work. Tell the truth. It’s hard and sometimes harder than it has to be because of how our profession is treated. #leadupchat
#leadupchat peeps...thanks SO much for allowing me and @heffrey to facilitate some great convos this morning. It's a blast to grow with you all! Have a great weekend.
A: Not enough!!! Ugh this is always my area of the most disappointment in myself. I follow up every visit, even a 10 min one, with a note on a star about what went well. Face to face for critical feedback. #leadupchat
""Never said anything derogatory about Haitians other than Haiti is, obviously a very poor country.
Never said 'take them out', made up by DEMS, I have a wonderful relationship with Haitians, probably
should record future meetings -
unfortunately no trust" @realDonaldTrump ✔
A6: When my principal visits the classroom regularly. I don’t have the feeling of being caught-in-the-act. It’s more of “he’s here chatting w/ Ss & finding out what we’re doing,” & then being very specific w/ what he enjoyed in my class. #LeadUpChat
We need to encourage our Ts to be innovative. That’s means say yes much more than saying know. Sometimes their ideas will upset the status quo and that’s a good thing. Encourage divergent thinking and practices. #LeadUpChat
A6: As often as is humanly possible! :) So often that it becomes a routine and students stop noticing. :) Focus on impact. Watching the teacher can cause the teacher anxiety. Looking for the impact his/her instruction is having on learning shifts the focus. #leadupchat
A6: As P, I visited rooms multiple times per day. I always explained my purpose, my role as coach to support my team. Each walk was for a different purpose, and I needed my team to understand my why and how I used visits to proactively engage Sts, as much as coach Ts. #LeadUpChat
@JeremyDBond: @noveltalk@susancain Love that book. When quiet teachers feel empowered to lead, quiet students can be, too. // Did you know about the new teen version ? awesome. #leadupchat
A6 I visit classrooms as often as possible. I smile, connect with the teachers & kiddos, & tweet out a pic of something terrific I observed using our district #’s. #Leadupchat
‘SHITHOLE’, ‘HELLHOLE’ what difference does it make! 2013 @LindseyGrahamSC says, people coming from Mexico are coming from ‘HELLHOLES’ & there’s people from HELLHOLES’ all over the world that want to come to the USA! https://t.co/hM5sZDzPtU
A6 Admins that visit often and interact with the kids never make me feel like I'm under the microscope. I wish they could come it more often! Love the idea that we're all in this together! #leadupchat
A6: My goal is to be in classrooms every day. Smiling while I’m in the room and having positive interactions with Ss regarding their learning seems to ease the experience for Ts. A T this week actually asked us to stay a bit longer so we wouldn’t miss the best part 😃#leadupchat
Are there days when we get stuck in our offices? Sure. But we have to fight to get out and be visible in the hallways (high fiving kids) and in the classrooms. I do what I can to avoid being in my office if at all possible. #leadupchat
Thanks for the insights everyone. Now time to reflect on your ideas. I appreciate the opportunity to learn and grow with such committed professionals. #leadupchat
