A1 Talking with other teachers and getting various perspectives. Anyone from my mom (GR1), to former HS teachers, former PSU profs, other content area teachers, and administrators. All of the experience and views are beneficial, even if contradictory to one another. #fcpslearn

A1: I don't know if it's an "official" quote, but someone told me early on my career to "Pick your hills to die on". I started dieing a whole lot less after that. #fcpslearn
A1- "If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn." all kids are different education is not one size fits all! #fcpslearn
A2: I think the foundation for an innovator's mindset is relationships. Without them nothing works. With them I resilience/ #growthmindset may be the most important component.

A2- for me it's a tie between networked and resilient. You have to be resillient to be an innovator because you will fail. multiple times. You have to be networked because the best people out there are inspired by others! #fcpslearn

A3: Making learning relevant for me is all about helping students to make connections to the world. Walls of the classroom should be transparent and connections should extend far outside the classroom.

A2: For me right now it is NETWORKED - my Twitter PLN is breathing fresh life into me... it’s pushing and growing and teaching and challenging and supporting and encouraging me all at the same time. Giving me the courage and inspiration to step out and innovate!! #fcpslearn
A3: Learning is most relevant when project outcomes matter to the student. Base skills via practice and repetition is necessary, but nothing holds them like being faced with a real problem and a real audience who's invested in the end product. #fcpslearn
A3: Connecting S Learning with the real world. Imagining that with every lesson, my Ss are admin why they need to know this... because they are. And we should show them when they’ll use it by using relevant real-world authentic examples, not question 3 in the workbook. #fcpslearn
A2 It is so important for Ss to be risk takers in school and in life. We need to instill in them that mistakes are ok, and are part of the learning process, not to be avoided. #fcpslearn
A3 Love this question! Learning a language is always relevant because it's a part of being a global citizen! Having the ability to speak to people in another part of the world is the BEST gift that I've ever given myself. Well worth the 50/60Ks I'm in debt for it. #fcpslearn

A3 Science teaching today is more about understanding the world around us, and less about rote memorization. All Ss need to know about themselves and why things are the way they are #fcpslearn
A4: Removing labels for me means to give every student the same level of belief and to no longer impose a trajectory on them. Guide them to their own personal greatness!

A4: The reason I got into teaching was because I didn't feel like my school-life was diverse and accepting. Creating environments where students FEEL safe to be who they are (and by having teachers who are comfortable with who they are) is CRITICAL #fcpslearn
A4: I think kids take on labels by listening to the wrong voices. If we can be the voice they listen to, and we're giving them positive messages, then maybe they can peel off some of those labels and see themselves for who they really are. #fcpslearn
A1: On a poster hanging above a printer one year was the quote: “You can’t change other people you can only change yourself.” So I often ask myself what am I going to do differently? #fcpslearn

Truly seeing, accepting the Ss as they are & all that they bring to this 🌎& forming a relationship that is built on acceptance, trust and not on someone else’s opinion ~

A4: “stop hemming kids into what they are expected to be” or as @brewerhm says, “disrupt the norm.” We have to love Ss fiercely because sometimes we need to believe in them first for them to have the confidence to bloom. #fcpslearn
A4 ALL kids want to learn, they just all don't follow the same predictable path to success. We need to focus on what they CAN do and build on that. #fcpslearn
It really is. And I try to tell kids that even coming to school with a positive attitude can make it better, but I know how it can be. I've been there and experienced it. Having teachers and admins whom I could talk to openly made a world of difference for me. #fcpslearn
A5: I would give people a list of great educators to follow & allow them to choose based on what they believe in and what those people post. They should take charge of their PLN from the very beginning!

A4- removing labels means not prejudging a student based on what other teachers say or a grade in a previous years subject. Accept them for who they are. Meet them at whatever level they are at when they come to you. Believe in them and Build them up! #fcpslearn

A5: I would recommend @TheWeirdTeacher. He's critical, thoughtful, irreverent. A great voice to remind us that we can be serious about our profession, second guess the easy answers, and still have a pile of fun. #fcpslearn
A4: When you remove the labels, you are removing the hurdles that students must jump over to show or feel successful. You are letting them run their own race. They will guide in in when they need help. #fcpslearn
