Hey Aly! Awesome to have you here! You have a VERY important job as a Special Ed. Teacher. Thank you for all that you do for students! #122edchat#personalexperience
A1: Connections are not just important, but essential, in order to "hook" students and keep their interest. I love when my Ss bring up examples from their lives that match up to our science content. Looking forward to increasing connection-making in the SMART Lab! #122edchat
Q1: Why are connections between content & its real world application essential in the classroom? Have you made a connection recently? Share it out!
#122edchat#TeachFurther
Welcome! Twitter chats are so fabulous for preservice teachers! Gives you amazing opportunities to learn from and be inspired by some world changers! (And you picked a pretty awesome chat to join!) #122edchat
A1: Real world applications are the "why" behind the "what" in what you are asking the kids to do. It's the secret sauce that makes learning real + relevant. W/O it, education is just bland. Daily, we are pushing the students to make real world connections in our lab. #122edchat
A1- I feel if students cannot connect things to the real world they do not take ownership of it. The students really appreciate things they can use!! #122edchat
A1: Ss always want to know "when am I going to use this in life?" We are currently completing word problems with fraction operations. I use student names within problems & Ss even come up with their own story problem! So much real world application #122edchat
A1: I have to go right by to my quote... Education is LIFE!
Giving students life experiences during learning gives information purpose. #122edchat#TeachFurther
It's a chat that originated in our district, hence the 122 - now that we've gone global, we have different mods each week to host on a variety of topics! #122edchat
In reply to
@MsPettyTweets, @MsJachymiak, @jeffgargas, @RaeHughart
A1: Connections to the real-world are what make learning “click” for many Ts and Ss. It is the difference between hearing to forget and learning to remember. Truly powerful can be letting student help offer these connections for the class to hear!
#122edchat
A1 Q begs a focus on #inquiry & authenticity in Ed. What we teach (content) must apply beyond classroom or else we waste students' time & integrity. Our Driving Qs in humanities = “What is a civilization? What does it mean to be civilized?” which guides our approach #122edchat
A1.2 : In my classroom students participate within Themed Internships - adding an umbrella of purpose within each days learning.
This week Students are Guidance Counselors & NASA Explorers (All in a Math Classes!) #Fun#122edchat#TeachFurther
A1: Connecting to the "real world" allows Ss to make connections - they are able to see how the material is necessary = owning their learning. It also hooks them in to participating more and more #122edchat
A1 One of the most common questions Ss have is “when am@I ever going to use this?” So let’s show them how and when. The connection also better prepares them for using their knowledge in life outside of the classroom. #122edchat
A1: Connections are important because they provide a sense of purpose. Relating math to real life helps Ss see that they will use these skills down the road. Last semester, @MACKENZ1E_M and I did an agricultural unit to teach decimals. It was memorable. #122edchat
A1: they are essential because why else are we in school but to learn and prepare for the real world? Also - in 2 short months our team is doing a 24 skype-a-thon to make ALL the connections lol #122edchat
Q1: Why are connections between content & its real world application essential in the classroom? Have you made a connection recently? Share it out!
#122edchat#TeachFurther
A1 If you want the learning to stick, you have to make it relevant enough for students to want to dig deeper. Transfer of knowledge relies on real work connections. #122edchat
A1: fastest way to lose engagement in a lesson is to answer the question why does this matter with a blank stare. We introduced light sound and thermal energy with cooking, crazy Christmas light shows, and making their own instruments #122edchat
Q1: Why are connections between content & its real world application essential in the classroom? Have you made a connection recently? Share it out!
#122edchat#TeachFurther
Intro: Mr. Gallegos, 7th grade Spanish/ Social Studies teacher, "lose yourself in the music, the moment, you own it, you better never let it go"- Eminem #122edchat
A1: Students want learning that is also relevant. If we are able to take our content and show students how it applies, students are more likely to feel engaged in the work. Currently, my students are practicing their research skills as they design websites for 1920s! #122edchat
A1 Connection between content & real world application is essential. If Ss can see how it relates directly to their world, it becomes more personal. That personal connection makes it more likely to stick. Could also boost deeper understanding with relevant context. #122edchat
The connection is essential because when it matters to them, and they see that they’ll need it in their lives, students will be more curious and excited to learn! #122edchat
Excite for #122edchat with @RaeHughart moderating! I’m Chad Ostrowski o work with schools districts and of course educators to help them #teachbetter. I’m also the creator of @thegridmethod and co-founder of PML

Real world are applications and connections are very important as they show students that what they are learning, is relevant to their life and will enhance it. #122edchat
A1: If Ss don't see a purpose for learning, they won't learn. Real world connections give purpose. Have recently used 2 unrelated to both teach P.O.V: (1) rumors versus getting info from source, (2) emojis! (thanks to @KateAshmore for suggesting #2) #122edchat
Q1: Why are connections between content & its real world application essential in the classroom? Have you made a connection recently? Share it out!

#122edchat#TeachFurther
A1- If it's not applicable, why are we teaching it?! I have vocab & grammar real-life challenges to encourage Ss to find what we're learning in real life. #122edchat
I have! Learn Like a Pirate #learnLAP Explore Like a Pirate #xplap Play Like a Pirate #playLAP Ditch the Textbook, The Innovators Mindset, SHift This, Empower, Launch, Master The Media, and have Dunk Tank on the table ready to go. Think thats it! #122edchat
A2: Real-world connections should happen as often as possible. They are not always there but when they are, it is imperative to help guide Ss to them. It is also crucial to consider connections with a global perspective.
#122edchat
A2: Real world connections should occur as much as possible. The more we can show our kids that what they're learning matters outside school walls, the better. Explicitly ask for those connections to be made! #122edchat
A1. Because I'm tired of hearing "how am I ever going to use this". Its playing test week. If you can play in front of the class, that furure job interview will be a piece of cake! #122edchat
A1 Ss care about the world. They hear and see the world happen around them and they want to be a part of it. I am honestly struggling for those real world connections with a change in my position this year. I only see my classes for an hour a week- not enough time! #122edchat
As a math T I all too often got the "when are we ever going to use this?" line. Had to be prepared enough to have an answer. Looking back, I should have made my lessons better so the didn't even ask! #122edchat
A1: Ss and Ts need to be able to relate to what is going on in the classroom. This way when they are in the “real world”/post classroom, they have something to link “it” back to! I use the SAMR coffee connection a ton when talking to Ts. #122edchat
Q1: Why are connections between content & its real world application essential in the classroom? Have you made a connection recently? Share it out!
#122edchat#TeachFurther
A1: Students need to know what they are doing will matter when they leave here. What else would be the purpose of doing what they are doing? Working here with a scientist on why we study geologic history #skypeascientist#122edchat
A2 As often as it allows. I don't think it should be forced to fit if it naturally doesn't. Ss see through that, especially as they get older. Inviting folks/experts in from the outside, in person or virtually, ensures more opportunities will present themselves. #122edchat
https://t.co/BHC55CbKoR under science, energy stations. We did everything we could to try and make a fun and exciting introduction to these forms of energy before they delve deeper in the current PBL unit #122edchat
A2.1: Think it is something that needs to happen organically; it cannot be forced. Some activities lend well to having real-world connections while others do not. Kids will know when it is forced to fit. #122edchat
A2- They should happen all day!! No student should feel like when will I ever use this again. I make sure to some how connect it to my own life and theirs with all of the literature we read in class. #122edchat
A2: Always (or as often as possible!) Show how concepts can be applied to a Ss every day life/routine, to their future career, to their interests, etc. Ss are more engaged when it's relevant!! #122edchat
A2: I'd say when that connection is relevant and enhances the understanding of the topic. We should not grasp at straws to make connections, we should make sure our connections are meaningful. #122edchat
A1: Connections between content and to the real world make learning meaningful. This past week, my Social Studies Ss created a 'Farcebook' project of a significant figure of the Revolutionary War with emojis, pictures, and dialogue. #122edchat
If we can’t get Ss to see relevance, they won’t learn at the same level. I am a principal now but as a history teacher I tried to find a movie that would relate to the topic and reference it in notes and talks. #122edchat
A2: they SHOULD be made daily to make learning authentic to Ss. Still working on that. Maybe will get some new inspirations tonight! #122edchat (oops, can't quote tweet and gif.... )🤪
A2.2: Maybe I am wrong, but I am going to say it anyways, but we need to find a balance in incorporating real-world connections so they do not lose their novelty with our students. If I eat ice cream all the time, I will start to get sick of it...even if I love it. #122edchat
I have a weekly meeting set up with my instructional coach @erikap22 where all we do is take the weeks topic and find ways to make it relevant #122edchat
As a math T I all too often got the "when are we ever going to use this?" line. Had to be prepared enough to have an answer. Looking back, I should have made my lessons better so the didn't even ask! #122edchat
A2 They SHOULD be infused into every unit of study. They are incredibly powerful for increasing student engagement, interest, and understanding of content. Again- I'm not doing great at it this year. #GoalsForSpring#122edchat
A2: Real world connections should happen on a daily basis. I have a book that my mentor has that explains the math that Ss need to pursue any career. I try to show my Ss videos that tie the content to real life. For example, a clip from "Father of the Bride" for LCM. #122edchat
A2.1: Think it is something that needs to happen organically; it cannot be forced. Some activities lend well to having real-world connections while others do not. Kids will know when it is forced to fit. #122edchat
A2: connecting the content to the real world should be every day - doesn't necessarily mean you have to be making huge connections every day but just show SS how and why it matters in life #122edchat
A2: all the time!! I started this with my own son when we are reading. It is amazing how at 6 yr. he can connect real word to what he’s learning. Connections help with problem solving. I believe our goal is to create a generation of problem solvers #122edchat
A1. Connections make learning become real to life when we can relate it to a problem in which we are solving or a real life situation. When we do some exp. in STEM, some techniques, are used in solving crimes and other prob. in science. #122edchat
A2: Real world connections should me made all day everyday. They can be used to help explain the topic, proof on how to use a concept, or even just as an example to help provide concrete evidence! #122edchat
A1. A must for motivation- hooks kids into lesson/interests & passions are highlighted- kids in driver’s seat #authenticlearning@geniushour is amazing - kids yesterday share their project on Helen Keller/then they taught us sign Language! Drs dissecting NF
#122edchat
A2: They should occur as often as possible, in theory you would want it to be every day. What matters is showing them how the content is useful in real life or how it can benefit their own life #122edchat
A2: Definitely as often as possible - it helps keep the students engaged throughout the lessons - they can speak confidently with expertise when they fully understand it based on the connections they can make #122edchat
A2.2: Maybe I am wrong, but I am going to say it anyways, but we need to find a balance in incorporating real-world connections so they do not lose their novelty with our students. If I eat ice cream all the time, I will start to get sick of it...even if I love it. #122edchat
A3: By joining forces with the community, student learning will increase due to engagement levels alone. Whether we see it daily or not, our Ss genuinely care for those around them - letting them have those chances will create a spark that transcends to the classroom. #122edchat
A3: The Community can help so much when you are looking to add purpose to the learning! Every teacher needs another set of hands - why not make it intentional to the learning process?
#122edchat
A2b I remember bringing in my hockey helmet from college and a mini replica from the sports memorabilia store to help explain dilations in geometry. It worked. They were curious as to why I showed up to class wearing a helmet. #122edchat
A3 #122edchat Community connections bring the learning home and make it real-authentic. Students see impacts first hand! Social justice in the manner is essential.
A3: Connecting to the local community can truly bring concepts into reality for students. It's no longer just in the book or just something the teacher said. They can experience it first-hand and that is truly powerful.
#122edchat
A2: I'd say when that connection is relevant and enhances the understanding of the topic. We should not grasp at straws to make connections, we should make sure our connections are meaningful. #122edchat
A3: It makes the lesson that is being taught "real". When you come face to face with what you learned about earlier in the day, kids will naturally be more excited about their learning. We see it with our kids. They love to teach us about what they learned. #122edchat
A2 Real world connections must occur as often as possible! As teachers, we must model making these connections but also encourage/teach kids to do so themselves. This speaks to the environment we create for and with kids. #122edchat
A2b Model what you want to make happen. Make good habits, like modeling authentic writing, reading widely, and thinking aloud to help kids connect in-class learning to the outside world! #122edchat
A3: Connecting to the community allows students to get a tangible holding on their learning. If students can see how learning can affect their community, then they can believe that they can make an impact, and we could promote a generation of world changers! #122edchat
in today's world, where so much info is at our fingertips, everything we do has to have real world value. If it doesn't, it doesn't mean anything to kids. The absence of real world connections and value is the loss of curiosity and creativity #122edchat
I feel you, HOWEVER eating vanilla ice cream every day is not the same thing as having vanilla one day rocky road the next homemade butterscotch after that. I can make an argument ice cream every day but a different flavor keeps it fresh! #122edchat
A2.2: Maybe I am wrong, but I am going to say it anyways, but we need to find a balance in incorporating real-world connections so they do not lose their novelty with our students. If I eat ice cream all the time, I will start to get sick of it...even if I love it. #122edchat
A3 Local connections are more likely to spark conversations with their family and other people. I tell students my dream is for them to see something cool and be able to turn to someone and say, "hey you wanna know why that happens, because I know why!"
#122edchat
That belief in themselves is key, and often the biggest obstacle - even more reason to tell them EVERY DAY that we KNOW they will change the world! #122edchat
A3: By interacting with the community, students will both be more engaged in lessons, and be able to to connect what they've learned in the classroom to real life. #122edchat
There is no wrong in this conversation! Just discussion starters! I think if the real world connections you make focus primarily on fun, food filled experiences for students, it's being done ineffectively. The real world connections must be embedded throughout! #122edchat
A2) As often as we can. Acknowledge Ss’s interests & challenge them to consider the connections between their interests & the content / concepts #122edchat#teachfurther
A3: connections to local community help students know what outside resources they have available to them. That way if they find a passion they can dive deeper into their learning. #122edchat
A3: When bringing community into the picture, it allows Ss to see the impact they can truly have and how they can both inspire and influence others. Would love to do a service learning project #122edchat
A3: Connections to the local community can be transformative. Students will have access to to a wide range of resources, have more opportunities for hands-on learning, and feel support from everyone around them #122edchat
I’d also probably say that this makes it even more important that we’re not using the same idea to make it relevant. You can’t just say you’ll need it if you want this job or that job or for college #122edchat
A2.2: Maybe I am wrong, but I am going to say it anyways, but we need to find a balance in incorporating real-world connections so they do not lose their novelty with our students. If I eat ice cream all the time, I will start to get sick of it...even if I love it. #122edchat
A3: It takes a village to raise a child and this is so applicable when we are talking education in the community. It models how what they are learning is relevant to their surroundings. #122edChat
A3 Look at what it's doing for all @RWScholars@EdCorps classrooms! Ex @UpstanderBrand@FHGizmos. Teaching entrepreneurship and empathy. I like that combo. It gives opportunity for ownership and to see an impact beyond the classroom. #122edchat
a3 When I got a class set of Chromebooks from a Boeing grant to integrate STEM, it sent my Ss a strong message that there are good jobs out there for them #122edchat
A3: @RaeHughart does an amazing job with this. Community members want to give back, and what better way to do so than through education? Ss are interested in the walls beyond the classroom, and for some Ss, they do not get a chance to explore options. #122edchat
A3) It brings it close to home. It shows Ss how they can transfer, use, & share what they have learned in their neighborhood & with their neighbors #122edchat#teachfurther
A3 I think it is easier for students to connect with their own communities because they can see that people who live their have accomplished their goals = maybe I can too #122edchat
Q4: Should educational partnerships be formed between communities & schools to make real world application of learning a priority? If so how? If not, why? #122edchat
"Be Where Your Feet Are" -- Local connections and opportunity are often the first step to cultivating wonder and curiosity for experiencing a bigger world #122edchat
A3: my students come almost exclusively from severe poverty. All get free bfast/lunch, etc. If I only speak middle-class white woman to them, they'll never learn. I have to meet them where they are, then show how they can improve their futures... #122edchat
Yes! Keep it up! Love this passion and dedication to make connections authentic & impactful! Have you used the Teach Further Model or something else? #122edchat
In reply to
@m_drez, @RWScholars, @EdCorps, @UpstanderBrand, @FHGizmos
A4: 100% yes. But it starts with the community accepting the local schools no matter the demographic, test score results, etc. Have faith in what those Ts and Ss can do, and give them a chance. #122edchat
A4: Connections should definitely be made btw the school and community. This is the essential of a true learning community centered around a shared vision or WHY. The community support the school in many ways and allows for real-world connections and experiences.
#122edchat
A3: Connections to the local community help students see the impact of their learning/actions on real people that they know. It means much more when they interact with people who use this knowledge daily. #122edchat
#122edchat family if you are not following this great Special Education teacher you need to. She spends a lot of thoughtful time crafting her answers and it shows! Love that she has gotten into the twitter chat game!
A3: Connections to the local community can be transformative. Students will have access to to a wide range of resources, have more opportunities for hands-on learning, and feel support from everyone around them #122edchat
A3 in the past we have tried very hard to involve our community members in our project-based learning units. Local hockey teams, the mayor, local scientists and businesses have made the learning real for the students #122edchat
I love the part about them being responsible citizens! We have to teach that too! Connecting the community allows students to see that they are part of something bigger #122edchat
A4: It would be nice to be able to pull in experts and community members who can enhance what is being learned in the class. There is a lot of knowledge in our communitites, but connecting can be hard #122edchat
A4- Yes 100% I think it could be as simple as reaching out to a local business or park district and working with them to bring their expertise into the classroom. We can also reach out and help in the community. #122edchat
A4: I am supportive of the idea of having additional voices involved in the educational process. However, when more access is granted, those people might want to have more control of the product. Some people might be weary of giving up that control. #122edchat
A3p2: also, community outreach and service projects can have a huge impact on emotional, spiritual, moral growth. I try to teach my Ss to #choosekind in all they do, including being involved in their communities #122edchat
A3: my students come almost exclusively from severe poverty. All get free bfast/lunch, etc. If I only speak middle-class white woman to them, they'll never learn. I have to meet them where they are, then show how they can improve their futures... #122edchat
A4: For sure! It helps build citizenship in the students and make their mark on the community/world. They will appreciate what they have even more - so many positives in this! #122edchat
Q4: Should educational partnerships be formed between communities & schools to make real world application of learning a priority? If so how? If not, why? #122edchat
A4 Absolutely. My upper level Econ Ss actively seek out businesses & contacts in the community for internships, job shadows or even interviews in regards to what their career is like. It’s critically important to my classes! #122edchat
A4 YES. I love what @Buffalo_Schools is doing with their New Education Bargain and Innovative High School Redesign with community/business partnerships. This is #futureready. Check out these brochures that expand on recent efforts: https://t.co/MlJh6w2RXM#122edchat
A4: I'd say it should be a balance. We want students to be able to bake a cake but we also need students to know what flour is. Finding the sweet spots to connect the community and school are where we want to be. #122edchat
A4. Yes. Both should rely on each other. It give students possible career options they might not have thought about. And one day the kids will be adults helping to make decisions for the community. #122edchat
A4: Yes! I started helping out with the ESL club at my school, and we are taking the Ss out into the community. Ss need to realize that learning is not just confined to the classroom. Oftentimes, Ss learn more when engaging with the community and the school. #122edchat
A4) Mosr definitely. Ss are not only giving back to the community. They are becoming civically minded by seeing how they are capable of making an impact. They could also become entrepreneurial or philanthropic #122edchat#teachfurther
A4 Yes, absolutely. How? Lots of phone calls to local businesses and community members. Bring students into the process of identifying community partners. "How does this connect to the community? Let's call someone!" Students love taking on that role! #122edchat
A4: Yes connections should be made between the community and schools, for instance, in a social studies class, if you are in a big city, you could have students travel around the city looking at historically important landmarks and events #122edchat
A4: 100% yes. But it starts with the community accepting the local schools no matter the demographic, test score results, etc. Have faith in what those Ts and Ss can do, and give them a chance. #122edchat
I greatly appreciate & respect how you addressed both sides to the topic. Often, we can be eager to open our doors & provide opportunities but we also need to protect our students & keep them first! #122edchat
A3. Connections that are made in learning allow Ss to be global learners within our communities and solve real world problems with their contributions. #122edchat
A4. Yes. Both should rely on each other. It give students possible career options they might not have thought about. And one day the kids will be adults helping to make decisions for the community. #122edchat
A4: For sure! It helps build citizenship in the students and make their mark on the community/world. They will appreciate what they have even more - so many positives in this! #122edchat
A4: they should Def exist - but we also want them to extend their view beyond as well. Know your roots but also that you can grow beyond them #122edchat
A4 Our district has a very active Educational Foundation. They help out anyway they can. The community is very invested. I am blessed in that respect. #122edchat
A4 It would be awesome to have those connections with local businesses/communities but many don't have the staff #'s to work with schools. Tangerine bank has a great financial program they do in schools to teach finance Ed #122edchat
A3: When teachers make connections to the local communities, it makes the students feel connected to each other and connected to the larger global community. Help the Ss be productive members of the global society #122edchat
Inspired by all of you and your passion for your Ss. You are all world changers. As a pre-service teacher, I am always inspired by @RaeHughart who does such an incredible job. #122edchat
A3 I'm big fan of think locally & act globally. Bring in experts (parents, local colleges, business community) to add that real-life application of content to service learning projects (charity work) to true #CivicAction where kids advocate and act to make real change #122edchat
A5: I would love to collaborate with so many in my PLN, but especially @MrPStrunk. He is an absolute inspiration, and we are lucky to have him here each week. #122edchat
A5: @JamesHeniff is STRAIGHT UP HUSTLE. Always looking for ways to make science concepts more relevant through community connections. Always emailing, tweeting at people. I just wish he could find people to connect with. He is the heart and soul of @Simmonsknights1. #122edchat
Thanks! The best part is most of my students do this on their own without encouragement or guidance; they take awesome responsibility for their own education & future! #122edchat
I've used a lot of global collaborations which has helped teach further and reach further but am looking to catch a ride on the #edcorps train in 2018. #122edchat

A1: If there isn’t a connection between the content & the real world, students won’t find it necessary to learn the skill. We read a speech by Emmeline Pankhurst today and related it back to the Women's March that happened this weekend. #122edchat
A4: YES, 100%. Collaboration would have a significant impact, and could provide opportunities that schools may not hav otherwise. They say it takes a village, so we should come together as one! #122edchat
A4: they should Def exist - but we also want them to extend their view beyond as well. Know your roots but also that you can grow beyond them #122edchat
Q5: End with a Bang! Give a shout out to a educator you admire for their work making connections a priority in the classroom - or - a colleague you intend to collaborate with, making connections a focus this week! Set your goal! #122edchat#TeachFurther
A1: If there isn’t a connection between the content & the real world, students won’t find it necessary to learn the skill. We read a speech by Emmeline Pankhurst today and related it back to the Women's March that happened this weekend. #122edchat
A small step in the right direction can go a long way. In May, I was on my first Twitter chat and started my journey. Now, I am guest moderating #masterychat next week and two more chats in May. Never be afraid to take a risk. #122edchat
We have had panel discussions with community members based on career paths students were interested in. We had a lot of community buy in. The students LOVED it. They touched base with people in these jobs in a non-intimidating environment. One of our best ideas yet. #122edchat
A2: Real world connections should be given to every lesson. Make sure that you’re thinking of them as you make your lessons and asking your students how they can connect the content to THEIR real world too. #ourworldsarenotthesame#122edchat
A special THANK YOU to @RaeHughart for hosting another excellent party tonight in #122edchat! Job well done! Looking forward to chatting again tomorrow at 7 Central for #masterychat.
Don't miss #122edchat next Wednesday at 7 Central as we welcome in @RChagnonMath and @ValeriePelak! Also, it's your last chance to yell at January and tell it what you really think about it.
Be careful, Megan. You're making my head so big it may not fit out the door in the morning! #122edchat I am so thankful that I stumbled upon this chat one night. It has TRANSFORMED my teaching forever! Thank you and @_on11 for getting this ball rolling!
A key point that might be really important here Mike is that the community can’t Really participate until they understand what education is now versus when they were in school. Students don’t want a photo op they want opportunities #122edchat
A4: I am supportive of the idea of having additional voices involved in the educational process. However, when more access is granted, those people might want to have more control of the product. Some people might be weary of giving up that control. #122edchat

A4, yes, yes, YES! It is vital for kids to have that partnership with community for real world experiences- softstarts, problem solving, innovation, oh my😱
#122edchat
A4. Yes, There are so many opportunities for businesses in the community to form partnerships with the school through internships, job shadowing, reading buddies, donating time, funds, senior interviews, educational council. #122edchat
A5: Of course, I have to say @RaeHughart. Words cannot express how much she has inspired me to teach further and have my Ss best interests at heart. She teaches from the heart and is phenomenal. By the way, she is also a fridge of fame winner. Rockstar! #122edchat
Q4: Should educational partnerships be formed between communities & schools to make real world application of learning a priority? If so how? If not, why? #122edchat
A5 I greatly admire @BrookeEisenbach even in the short time I’ve know her; she does an awesome job creating opportunities for her preservice Ts & I can’t wait to collaborate with her more in the future! #122edchat
A5 Shout out to my great colleagues at @JJLFlames and our incredible data that shows we have great connections with our kids and we partner with them in growth. #122edchat
A1: Students need to see the relevance to be engaged. If there is no real world application, they often fail to see the purpose of learning. Social studies is such a great subject! Make it relevant! #122edchat
A5: Blessed to work with a great staff. Really big shout out to @misskoplin! Her work with out kiddos is amazing, I feel like a lot of the growth I am seeing in our special education students are a result of her unrelenting belief in their ability to be great! #122edchat
THANK YOU so much for this opportunity to host!
I hope to continue responding to your questions throughout the night! THIS WAS SO FUN!
Thank you Thank you for the opportunity @MillerMathSMS@_on11@MrsAsztalos#122edchat

A4: YES! A few years back, I worked in a school that was fighting a bad stigma. We had a career day, and had WONDERFUL community support. It did great things for those kids' self-esteem to see influential people take time out of their day to come talk to them. #122edchat
A4: These connections would definitely benefit the students. For example, the Ss can learn the history behind their hometowns and communities by visiting their local libraries, township halls, board meetings, parks, recreational centers and the list goes on! #122edchat
For those who may be interested in wading into inquiry math grades 7-12, I've been collecting tasks and "how-to's" here: https://t.co/2GAUYc2NWj#122edchat

Q5: End with a Bang! Give a shout out to a educator you admire for their work making connections a priority in the classroom - or - a colleague you intend to collaborate with, making connections a focus this week! Set your goal! #122edchat#TeachFurther

Q4: Should educational partnerships be formed between communities & schools to make real world application of learning a priority? If so how? If not, why? #122edchat
A4 Yes of course! See my A3. We are fortunate to have local universities & colleges near us plus a ‘connected’ parent community. No reason to not invite community in so students can apply their learning out & about! Ask & you shall receive! Skype 'em in if you have to! #122edchat
A5: Beyond thankful for the amazing educators I get to work with each day! Especially @mrpstrunk and @ToddRisser for showing me new and innovative ideas! #122edchat
A5: Shout out to the 7th grade team at @Simmonsknights1, making learning engaging with real-world connections based on research and inquiry! #122edchat
