A1: Hi! This is fun- too bad I just finished working out...but my green ring didn’t register my workout! Katie- also from CO! I am a high school Tech teacher in a project based interdisciplinary program! #AppleEDUchat
lmao since I'm on this #AppleEDUchat in my one free period in Shanghai, do I do these lunges in the Science office or the classroom with the kids?! So many choices lol
Anthony Stirpe.
New York City/ New Rochelle. (Our school district is awesome, and is looking for a new Superintendent! Talk to me for details.)
I teach ELA, Theatre, and Film.
#appleeduchat
A1: With legs burning, I am Adam. I teach high school students American History, American Government, and AP U.S. History in Frederick, CO! #AppleEDUchat
A1: hi all!!nancy from Ottawa Canada. I’m an assistive tech teacher. My #EveryoneCanCreate is the dream of created accessible and inclusive, #udl learning environments. I’m tweeting from hospital so not closing many rings tonight #AppleEduChat
A2: I would say that some of these interdisciplinary units we are teaching in high school are very powerful! In our current music unit- we are using math, science, engineering, art, and Spanish to create music, amplification devices, and visual music pieces! #AppleEDUchat
A1 #appleeduchat Becky Peters here - listening at 1.5 speed to get caught up, doing some hilariously fast lunges 😂 program manager @icsvvsd in @Svvsd , in almost always sunny longmont CO :)
A2: we planned a whole school walk out last year. Students researched the Children’s March, issues that were important to them, made protest or support signs, and we all marched out. #AppleEDUchat
A2: In 2018 I taught my first #APcsp class and had students decide to study CS because of that opportunity! We learned together through the year and I'll always remember it as a milestone in my career. #AppleEDUchat
A2: Student-led assembly for entire high school to express their opinions, concerns, fears + hopes after 2016 election was decided. So powerful much of the room was in tears from the shear emotion expressed in an open environment welcoming of all students' voices. #AppleEDUchat
A2 the first gathering of #dtk12chat community at @SXSWEDU ; the coming together & the start of a tradition that I'm so proud to be a part of -- even if I've had a couple not so proud moments at said gathering #AppleEduChat
A2: most powerful experience in my new role; sharing a tech tool that makes both students and teachers become completely absorbed in creation. 2 students almost missed the bus. We don’t let our kids or teachers ‘play’ enough #AppleEDUchat
A2: A powerful shared experience that I have been part of is leading a mindfulness activity through a restorative practice circle at a staff meeting. It really made those #connections amongst staff. #appleeduchat
My most powerful shared experience in education was helping high school students that spoke English as a second language fill out college applications. This allowed me to learn about their different backgrounds and things they’ve had to overcome! #AppleEDUchat#EDW200
A2: Hands down, getting to participate in #SVVSDLearns' yearly Tech Camps, which have become one of the largest tech gatherings in CO. Was wonderful in 2017 to give the keynote Ignite talk as well with other awesome #SVVSD teachers. #appleeduchat
#AppleEDUchat A2 Using FaceTime and other media to bring in guest speakers to engage our students in the study of history. Started with out 1980s class and now is part of all our SS classes at North White (Indiana). All started in 2013.

A2:My school experienced tremendous tragedy last year when we lost a student to violence. And, it wasn't the only loss. However, this year is one of the best years I have experienced in almost a decade, and our new admin has worked with teachers to rebuild! #Blessed#appleeduchat
#AppleEDUChat A2: Love the Power of Moments @mrkalb Creating stories together, most specifically visual narratives. With Ss with Ts - powerful peak moments.
Escape mission for Student Achievement Team! Engaging, competitive, and full of new learning. Also I could apply it in my classroom whenever! #AppleEDUchat PS- Feeling so energized by everything happening on this twitter chat tonight!
A2: Most powerful shared experience in ed has probably been HS graduations - seeing students cross the stage and cheer for each other, support each other, it’s an incredible thing to see. #appleeduchat
A2: I would say the most powerful shared experience is a toss between watching my students host after school PD to other students, and then staff asking if they could join in! I also love seeing our students present in Springfield with @ice_il#appleeduchat
A2: Powerful experience was a coaching cohort of shared iPad teachers that I met with last school year! We became so close working together! Ts at 6 different schools could share, bounce ideas and learn with one another! #AppleEDUChat
A2: there have been so many , I’m so lucky to say - but the moment you see a child make a connection, hit the switch, see the screen, hear the note. The ability to access & choose, speak, be included. #AppleEduChat
A2: teaching with my team @PLPSeycove and esp. @bryanhughes. We all make each other stronger and things better for Ss every day! (Sorry I’m late - there’s this thing on TV I’m watching too 😜) #AppleEDUchat
In reply to
@theipodteacher, @PLPSeycove, @bryanhughes
A.2. I can’t choose just one experience. The Lead and Learn conference was an amazing experience because I was able to share ideas with so many educators. The second was preparing my students for our community project with the International Balloon Fiesta. #AppleEDUChat
Listening to #appleeduchat, talking about exercise, brain breaks, etc... did you know our brains evolved while we were walking an AVERAGE of 12 miles a day!!?!?! It’s nuts! Exercise changes the brain’s anatomy.
A3: Exercise and movement keeps Ss invigorated, attentive and excited to learn. Plus if you've never done it in class before it makes a lesson fresh and exciting! #AppleEDUchat
A3: movement =happy teacher, happy kids! So good to take a brain break, be silly and active great time to model healthy living and bond with your students! #AppleEDUchat
A3: BRAIN BREAKS ARE A MUST!! Getting my kids up and moving helps them stay focused throughout the day I like to play music and have them dance. I make them go out and play at recess #AppleEDUchat
A3: Movement has become both a tool for focusing and an incentive for my students. They know that they’ll get a chance to move/dance/shimmy/shake at regular points, so they can focus on the learning in the moment. #AppleEDUchat
A3: 90 min blocks are hard on any Ss (or person) to do any task. My students love the freedom to move that I give, as well as the walking podcasts that I implement several times a unit! Many Ss are into podcasts now as a result! #appleeduchat
A4: Movement helps bring balance to my life. I am able to work off stress and anxiety and be more present and attentive for my students and teammates. #AppleEDUchat
"Mrs. Jenson this is boring, after sitting listening to my talk for 15 minutes about angles" They are young, its winter, its cold outside, and moving is WAY more fun! I have used @Sworkit to get my kids working out along with Yoga with @1000petals#AppleEDUChat
Not an A: , just a side note, this is an awesome way to do a group chat. Thank you for this synchronized opportunity to learn with others!! Great job, @mrkalb & @theipodteacher !!! :) #appleeduchat
A3 movement is so important for Ss engagement! Allowing them the freedom to move and learn is powerful and teaches life long lessons on how to self regulate! #AppleEDUChat
#AppleEDUchat movement = freedom and choice. learning is not contained to a classroom- beyond the walls. learn in the garden, take photo walks, seating choice, get outside!
A3 Movement! I was watching sixth graders learning GarageBand with #EveryoneCanCreate today, and they were grooving, dancing, and laughing! #AppleEduChat With iPads, kids get comfy, creative, collaborative, and mobile!!
A3: Many admins don't know what to think of me. I am deep into #PBL, so weeks of class are turned over to the student passions. The best move in my classroom? Me getting out of the way. They are going all the time when instruction is done and PBL begins. #appleeduchat
A3: Movement increases blood flow and thus engagement and energy. Give opportunities for movement even if it’s not part of the intended plan. Understand and adapt so all kids can learn #AppleEDUchat
A3: Movement keeps the brain stimulated!!! I don’t limit seating styles or restrict movement in my classes. We dance before class begins at times @AppleEDU#ADE2018@AppleEdu#AppleEduChat
A3 Serious question here (I mean you Brendan and Jon)... are brain breaks really breaks from thinking or more like opportunities to think differently/in a different environment? #AppleEDUchat
#AppleEDUchat movement = freedom and choice. learning is not contained to a classroom- beyond the walls. learn in the garden, take photo walks, seating choice, get outside!
A2: My most powerful learning opportunity was the action research I did for my MA in Ed tech back in the day. The 3rd grade class I had that year was the best learning community I’ve experienced. We needed each other. #AppleEDUchat
A3: Even as an educator, I NEED to move! I love brain breaks, but I also love flexible seating that allows students to not sit in their traditional setup. I also love turning learning into games. #appleeduchat
A3: Movement is so powerful to get our brains going. Movement is seen is so many ways throughout our learning environment. Loving our walking club during recess and how teachers have joined in! #appleeduchat
A4: As a marathoner, training mirrors life to me, being that the journey is as important as the destination. Learning is lifelong, we should encourage our Ss to embrance the journey and and not just focus on the end point #AppleEDUchat
A3: one thing that encourages movement is these standing tables from @IKEACanada that aren’t that expensive and can be used multiple ways. We had our PAC fund! #AppleEDUChathttps://t.co/WJ4XKtZicT
A3: Ss are not constrained to a seat. They know that the entire classroom is a safe learning space. Moving also provides more oxygen to the brain which allows for deeper learning. Most importantly, movement = fun! #appleeduchat
Movement matters because it helps the students focus on their schoolwork instead of fidgeting around! I don’t have my own classroom yet so I am eager to read what some of you all do to get students moving, expecially for secondary students! #AppleEDUchat#EDW200
A.3 I try to incorporate TPR in all lessons. I know that I personally can’t sit still for very long so I try to have my students up and moving seats (at the very least) every 20-30 minutes. #AppleEDUChat
A3&4: Movement breaks cause a win-win situation, because the children and teachers are getting some exercise, focus, and regulation and, in addition, the shorter lessons are more easily remembered, engaging, planned. #AppleEduChat
A4: regular movement helps me regulate my stress, especially when I get stuck on a problem or task. When I work out the physical kinks, I give my brain time to work out the emotional/cognitive kinks as well. #AppleEDUchat
A4 When I teach or lead a classroom I am in constant motion helps me to stay engaged and focused. Also helps me too be aware of what everyone else is up to …..#AppleEDUchat
A4: I read Spark https://t.co/JqccqSf5Yn and it changed my life. Helped me work out every morning and be ready to teach every day. Also got me to implement more movement in my class. Most importantly, it helped my mental health significantly #appleeduchat
A4: I try to make my desk as mobile as possible as an assistant principal, so I can work in different learning spaces and join in as many learning experiences as possibly I can. #appleeduchat
A3: movement can be rolling through halls, high fives from peers, learning the environment. Just moving through the school can be opportunities for inclusion, speech/communication goals #AppleEduChat
A4: When I earned the power to control my "SMARTBoard" with my iPad, I realized how liberating it was. Just because you have a screen in the front of the room does not mean you are servicing your students. Movement is innovation! #appleeduchat
#AppleEDUChat movement can be physical, emotional, intellectual, etc. Mindset of Just Go can't transform any teacher. Stepping out of comfort to try something new, consider the world your classroom and go outside. take walks with your kids. have a faculty meeting on a walk.
A4: Movement is important to me because it clears my mind and allows me to brainstorm. Running has also helped me to destress and reflect at the end of the day, but marathon training really helps show my students goal setting and commitment. #appleeduchat
A4: I’ve been a runner for over 30 years. Seriously, since 13, I’ve been running races and love it. I’ve noticed though that my morning and after school walks to/from school are amazing and make all the difference! #reflectiontime#AppleEDUchat
A4 We began walking meetings last June to create NEW ideas for our Elementary Tech committee! Walking with a colleague is a great way to brainstorm and think of new creative ideas! #AppleEDUChat
A4: 4:40 am alarm goes off every morning! Days that I miss my work out I feel irritable, unfocused, uncentered, uncreative, crabby, and useless. Workouts in the morning bring my clarity and goal setting for each day. Just as my colleagues that I text at 6 AM! #AppleEDUChat
#AppleEDUchat A4 I lost 100lbs during my first year teaching! Some of my best ideas come to me halfway through a workout! I agree with Jean-Jacques Rousseau "When I stop, I cease to think….”
A4 I think when I run. I plan what I need to think about before I leave on my runs and many times that determines how far I go. By the time I get home, I have all of my problem solved. Also, yes... #hugenerd#AppleEDUchat
A.4
Movement has connected me with my students outside my classroom. I get the opportunity to drop in and go to PE with my students when I would like. It lets them get to know me on another level. I coach a few of my students in gymnastics outside of school as well. #AppleEDUchat
A4: My movement goal this year is to do more yoga. And I really want to try to walk more; walking meetings, walking classroom, walking podcast, etc. #appleeduchat
Movement is key, I like to run, it’s where I find clarity and creative thoughts rush in. I think movement breaks and getting out and about are key because technology can be a very static activity. #AppleEDUChat
A4: I just try to stay on my feet. I rarely sit down until it’s almost time for bed. I also am aware of my steps each day. I’d love to hit the gym more if I could add a few more hours to the day #AppleEDUchat
A4: Moving around my classroom, besides helping me close my rings, allows me to listen to every conversation and monitor my students’ learning more closely. I teach from the Power Zone and this allows me to be in the middle of the action, right next to my ss. #appleeduchat
A4: movement makes me better! Running, crossfit, lifting, cycling, clears the mind, opens the heart. Ok @theipodteacher now I have to make it work and join in #AppleEduChat
A5: My move goal is to train enough to complete the Tokyo marathon as the final of my world marathon majors 🤞🏼 It’s been years in the making, wish me luck 🙏 #AppleEDUchat
I’m going to start one because almost all of my students got an #AppleWatch for Christmas and they all came to show me. They always comment on how my bands match my outfits lol ... innovator lol #AppleEDUChat
In reply to
@LLacrosse, @theipodteacher, @AppleEDU
A5: I have 2 marathons, several half marathons, and loads of trail races scheduled. The dates on the calendar are motivating. These races would be much better if I could lose a few pounds! #mygoal#thindowntorunmoreefficiently#AppleEDUchat
A5: My fitness goal is to get up and work out at least 4 times per week! I am also trying to walk/run on the treadmill while doing homework/ reading assignment! #AppleEDUchat#EDW200
Bucket list for the year is running a half marathon, I was set to do it this fall and didn’t a giant storm come in and cancel it, ugh. Signed up for one in April. It is always good to have goals. #AppleEDUChat
A:3 teaching high school many times that students can come in and feeling very frustrated and stressed out… Movement can help change their attitude! 🙌🏃♀️😃#AppleEDUchat
A5: fitness goal. Does that include nutrition? I have no portion control. Even when it comes to healthy food! Fact. You can eat your weight in broccoli 🥦 Also, trying not to cure my boredom with snacks. #AppleEDUchat
A5 My fitness goal for the year is to add strength training to my repertoire! I am a devoted yogi , kayaker and walker, but I think I need to up my game in 2019. #AppleEDUchat
A5: Be as active as I can be while working and taking care of my own three little boys. I’m NOT going to beat myself up over a missed workout. I WILL take advantage of every reasonable opportunity #AppleEDUchat
A5: My fitness goal for the year is to stay on my routine and work out every week day before going to work! I feel better, I'm more awake, and I am better for my students #appleeduchat
Finishing #Whole30 on January 31! Up my lifting weight by 10 in all areas by spring! Get my students and CO-WORKERS excited about health and fitness #appleeduchat
A5: I ran #chicagomarathon2018 last year, so my move goal is to keep that momentum going. This year, I signed up for @FreepMarathon for October in Detroit. I'm excited for the international race. #appleeduchat
A5: I'm a little behind now, oops. Mine is to train weekly at my karate school, get back to running and work towards my karate specific goals #AppleEDUchat
A6: I'm excited to have been given the position of high school distance track coach here in Shanghai :) So excited to share my passion for running with the Ss this season and see them get stronger every day! #AppleEDUchat
A3 movement is important in my room and to my students bc I totally encourage it and allow #flexibleseating which increases the innovation & creativity in their amazing projects #appleeduchat#wesipadlab
A6: I think the progress checks toward the goal are important in keeping students (and myself!) on track. I would love to get my staff on board for a twitter chat for PD as well. #AppleEDUchat
A3: If I'm talking, I don't want them walking around, but as a HS teacher and knowing my kids, they can handle the flexibility of deciding what their body needs to focus most of the time #AppleEDUchat
A.5 I have a few fitness goals: 1. Over 12,000 steps daily 2. Consistent workouts 5x a week 3. Work on getting stronger not focusing on losing weight (however @tearagon7 are doing a weight loss bet & a fitness teacher’s club at school) #AppleEDUchat
A6: This was awesome. It was really a cool way to participate in a chat. My two boys loved joining in on the movement! Thanks for a great start to ny goal of partaking in more twitter chats this year! Thanks @theipodteacher and @mrkalb#appleeduchat
A6: I want to make sure that I continue with my walking podcasts that I create for Ss, but to implement more organized movement breaks to really help students on a daily basis. Talking more about brain science to get at the why for kids to really hook them #appleeduchat
What an amazing innovative Twitter chat! So wonderful to be a part of it again, hope I can join in as often as possible from here in the East! Great job! Thanks @mrkalb@theipodteacher#AppleEDUchat
A6 Kids watch the adults in their lives for life clues. By modeling goal setting and sharing my progress hopefully kids will learn. And any student who wants help with their iPad knows they have to walk the building with me =D
#AppleEDUchat
A6 Goals, the topic of this weeks sketchnote. I am a huge believer is goal setting and emphasize that with my students. Not so good at encouaging movement as one of those goals 😬 #AppleEDUChat
A6: I would like to make it a goal to incorporate more movement into the lessons I support teachers with. As for goal setting, this has been a theme with our next staff PD sessions that @iCoachLindsay, @mrstechfarlin and I are working on this month! #appleeduchat
A6: I have been using Walk and Talk versus turn and talk. I am thinking about maybe utilizing this same technique. Goal setting is huge so maybe having visual representation and movement parties to celebrate! #appleeduchat
#AppleEDUchat amazing chat. love the interactivity, the music, the movement. Loved the more conversational tone with the mix of tweets and talk. Excellent!! You have raised the bar. @theipodteacher@mrkalb@danvkoch
love the idea of walking podcasts for kids -- I need a good middle school science podcast for kids that is SHORT - their attention span isn't the best 😊 #AppleEDUchat
A6: Using chats like this would not only benefit me but could also be encouraging to my students! Encouraging movement and goal setting in class may just be what pushes students to pursue their goals outside of class as well!#AppleEDUchat#EDW200
A6: shared experience is a pretty big question right now! How can I support others with my new learning on how to create accessible and inclusive spaces? Create so that every student can take risks, have the confidence to be courageous , Be?! #AppleEduChat
What a great start to the year, inspiring and encouraging us and our Ss to get up and get moving! This group of #ADEs always makes me feel optimistic and ready to go! #AppleEDUchat
Don't forget applications are open to be a part of the ADE Class of 2019, come join this incredible group of people who have changed my life in education and inspire Ss every day! #AppleEDUchathttps://t.co/r1eCKB5yeD
A6: We will discuss the importance of setting SMART goals. I will continue implementing cooperative learning strategies and establish peer support groups. #appleeduchat
A7: My movement hasn’t been the best today because of meetings. @iCoachLindsay and @mrstechfarlin maybe we need some walking meetings! I know this movement will change with Vanguard tomorrow! #AppleEDUchat
A7: So I had a game last night and tonight so no workout... we only practiced for 45 min with JV beforehand. I’ve been hooping for the past 3 weeks... #AppleEDUchat@AppleEDU
You all did amazing work tonight. @mrkalb and I are proud of you. We appreciate you joining #AppleEDUchat and taking part in our experiment and for that we say...
A6 🤩 I would like to encourage more movement during my #ProfessionalLearning classes to hopefully empower educators with more ideas to implement more movement into their classrooms & lesson plans #appleeduchat#CCSDfam we are going to #CloseOurRings
