HSSocialMedia : RT txhsfbchat: Welcome to #TXHSFBCHAT for the best hour of Twitter spent with high school football coaches! Sponsored by Sky_Coach https://t.co/44gxsYi3Y0
HSSocialMedia : RT txhsfbchat: Tonight we are talking Player Evaluation, and how we grade our players through the season #TXHSFBCHAThttps://t.co/slXclAxSet
@kdawgswift AD/HFC Gold Beach, Oregon #RuralHSFootball back from summer sabbatical due to summer practices. Currently in 2nd Week of Dead Period before we start next week. So getting some salmon fishing in on Rogue River / Bay. fishermen / Longboarder enthusiast #TXHSFBCHAT
A1: I used to write copious notes for each play on a chart, go over it with the OL during post-game film, and then give them the chart to fill in their self-assessment. We'd talk about any major discrepancies in opinion #TXHSFBCHAT
A1) This post explains the system we used, and why we used it... you can download the grading template from this post... https://t.co/VRyKw7Woeb#TXHSFBCHAT It also explains how we used the information gathered from it in our practice plan
A1: We don't really have an elaborate system. We use a plus/minus on each play. They have to be dang near perfect to get a plus. We look at stance, alignment, assignment, and execution. If they do those right then they get a plus. #TXHSFBCHAT
A1: It's simple - we grade everyone one 3 criteria - Fund/Tech , Execution, Effort. 3 means a plus + in each area, 2 a plus + in 2 areas, 1 a plus in 1 area. Penalties are a minus - That is all we grade on &/or have time for honestly #TXHSFBCHAT
Have done a few different things-4.0 scale, etc. trying something new this year, running point accumulation tally...still need to tinker with it to make it better #TXHSFBCHAT

Plus and minus grades for each play. We divide the total of the plusses into the total of snaps played by the individual and then give them their percentage.
#txhsfbchat
A1) we also used a system to "rank" players during our pre-season practices... I outline it in this post... Player Ranking System... https://t.co/tTxlWl6WXb#TXHSFBCHAT ... a helluva lot of work, but holds both players and coaches accountable.
Simple & straight forward is best we think! LOL I miss watching 16mm film with remote with them, I could watch 1 step for hours and fine tune! Taking the time & actually watching with them is still most powerful tool in my book #TXHSFBCHAT
A2) tried to grade all film... not just to grade the athletes , but to "grade" our coaching as well... a way of "checking for understanding... are we teaching effectively? #TXHSFBCHAT
Full grade of game film. Practice-watch whatever is filmed and make notes for going over with kids at lunch and/or adjusting scripts, but I don’t grade practice film the same way I do game film. Should-definitely something to grow in #TXHSFBCHAT

A2; We will film scrimmages or 7on7 during our camp in June. We watch with kids but do NOT grade these, more one on one with kids during entire summer teaching using footage as a tool & looking at video of stuff done correctly #TXHSFBCHAT
Game film gets grade sheet, is kept track week to week, etc. Practice film is more comment based and is used to adjust plan as coaches “what plays did we struggle with?” #TXHSFBCHAT
Game film - Sunday through Hudl and Monday as team in meeting and position groups after practice
Practice- same day through Hudl and position groups post practice/Pre-practice next day #txhsfbchat
A3) Film session post game... also post and have copies for every player... our rule is that if we give a minus, we must comment as to why... aids in the learning/ teaching and holds coach accountable #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: We grade Sunday AM done by 11ish, go over with kids at films on Sunday PM- 4 to 5:30 & finish Monday AM during Zero Period #TXHSFBCHAT We do not work in office on Saturday's due to getting back usually at 3 AM from most road trips.
For those programs that use drones, what recommendations do you have in choosing a specific one? Seems to be a lot on the market, trying to narrow my search. #TXHSFBCHAT
I want to go back and explain a detail of this spreadsheet we use... one of the most important elements is that it tracks/tallies the CAUSE of the minus grade... each week ( as well as post season) we can see what we are struggling with... what we need to work on. #TXHSFBCHAT

I routinely ask my OL to bring in hand written notes that detail 5 things they did well and 5 things they need to fix/improve on for practices and games. #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: I have had them go through and critique themselves. Complete a notes sheet of the plays they played #TXHSFBCHAT I like the idea of finding your 5 best and 5 worst plays...I think I'll add that
A4: Rarely but have & have also had them grade their units overall. We still watch a lot of film with our kids, which we think is our best tool. Hudl is great but Football is a Team Sport not a Sport played alone infront of a screen #TXHSFBCHAT
Currently trying a point accumulation system like attached. Have also used a 4 point system (stance, assignment, technique, effort) on every play and averaged it at the end. @youcandomore1 website has some good templates too

A5: LOL we are rural, so depth & quality are always going to be an issue. Pulling someone out & plug in another similar or better athlete is usually not an option. We take great Pride in our titles "Coach", kids never fail on purpose coach them up. #TXHSFBCHAT
A5: It helps me see who is translating skills from practice to the game more effectively. Film provides the evidence and the explanation for who plays #TXHSFBCHAT

A5: this was MY biggest adjustment coming from SoCal / Trinity League background, where your best motivation was -You Out & You In mentality. However it has made me a much better Coach in my opinion. #TXHSFBCHAT

Thanks again to coach @txhsfbchat for taking the time and effort at this busy time of year to pull us together this evening! It is appreciated #TXHSFBCHAT
