R1: differentiated instruction is providing instruction that meets the learning style of our individual Ss. #NVedchat
  • RichardKnoeppel Dec 11 @ 10:10 PM EST
A1: Assessing learning styles of all students and changing lesson content to meet students needs! #NVedchat
  • KierstenBasch Dec 11 @ 10:10 PM EST
These are great movies. Maybe we should just do a meme and movie night :) #NVedchat
  • KierstenBasch Dec 11 @ 10:11 PM EST
A1: I look at diff lrng as meeting the needs of all my Ss by adapting my teaching strategies & content. #NVedchat
  • mrrogers311 Dec 11 @ 10:11 PM EST
A1: The approach to lesson planning that assures all Ss can actively participate in the learning activities at or slightly higher then their current abilities. With Ss controling as much of the decision making as possible. Thinking DDMs. #NVedchat
  • RichardKnoeppel Dec 11 @ 10:12 PM EST

  • BonanzaFire Dec 11 @ 10:12 PM EST
A1: numerous types of materials, instruction styles, assessment styles and learning styles meeting in one room for the same purpose: to learn at a higher level of thinking #Nvedchat
  • LCHS_Bio Dec 11 @ 10:13 PM EST
R1: different isn’t always equal instruction due to the needs of our Ss. If they are EL or special needs Ss, The instruction will look different than in a high ability class. #NVedchat
  • thedullguy Dec 11 @ 10:13 PM EST
R1: Being flexible in product and process to meet the needs of students. #nvedchat
  • KamiSchools Dec 11 @ 10:14 PM EST
A1: A system of learning where individual Ss are given choices that inspire them and allow them to address their weaknesses through passion. I also think it is invaluable for preparing students for life after school, which rarely has the same level of guidance! #nvedchat
  • KierstenBasch Dec 11 @ 10:14 PM EST

  • thinkLawUS Dec 11 @ 10:16 PM EST
A1: An ideal goal for instruction where every student is recognized as an individual and their individual assets and needs are taken into account every moment of every day. #nvedchat
  • EBGtech Dec 11 @ 10:16 PM EST
A2: Yes...we can’t expect to reach all S & learners if we “teach to the middle” #nvedchat
    In reply to @KierstenBasch
  • KierstenBasch Dec 11 @ 10:16 PM EST
A2:Our one-room schoolhouse days & rote memorization are way behind us. We all have strengths & weaknesses. Diff Instr. capitalizes on that #NVedchat
  • MaggieJCox Dec 11 @ 10:17 PM EST
A1 differentiated instruction is giving options at varying degrees of difficulty so students can self monitor. #NVedchat
    • KierstenBasch Dec 11 @ 10:07 PM EST
Let's get the party started with Q1: Share your personal definition of differentiated instruction #NVedchat
  • LCHS_Bio Dec 11 @ 10:17 PM EST
R2: Proving different ways to assess student learning and providing multiple avenues for Ss to learn is essential. NCLB—yeah, I said it. #NVedchat
  • xAndyJorgensen Dec 11 @ 10:18 PM EST
A2: yes, differentiation is necessary because everyone is unique. Ideally, learning is personalized #NVedchat

  • thedullguy Dec 11 @ 10:18 PM EST
R2: I've always taught students who struggle with math, so I look at any opportunity for them to show me their understanding as a good thing. It's on me to provide them the pathways to do so. #nvedchat
  • KierstenBasch Dec 11 @ 10:18 PM EST
  • RichardKnoeppel Dec 11 @ 10:19 PM EST
A2: YES! Differentiation ensures that instruction is qualitative! Our students deserve it. #NVedchat
  • thinkLawUS Dec 11 @ 10:19 PM EST
Missed the intro #nvedchat! This is @ColinESeale tweeting for #thinkLaw where we help Ts teach #criticalthinking using real-life legal cases.
  • LCHS_Bio Dec 11 @ 10:19 PM EST
This is right on! If we teach to the middle, we lose the Ss on the extreme ends. We also prob lose the kids close to the middle as well. #NVedchat
    • EBGtech Dec 11 @ 10:16 PM EST
A2: Yes...we can’t expect to reach all S & learners if we “teach to the middle” #nvedchat

Q2: Do you feel that differentiated instruction is necessary? Why or why not? #NVedchat

    Yes! #NVedchat
    In reply to @KierstenBasch
  • SJteaches Dec 11 @ 10:21 PM EST
A2: there is no one size fits all way to teach or learn. We all comprehend/process differently & all have strengths/weaknesses when it come to showcasing what we know. #NVedchat
  • KierstenBasch Dec 11 @ 10:21 PM EST
Rolling up w/ Q3: How do you or can you use blended learning techniques to facilitate differentiating content & assessment in your classroom? #NVedchat
  • LCHS_Bio Dec 11 @ 10:21 PM EST
    What is average? #NVedchat
    In reply to @EBGtech
  • KamiSchools Dec 11 @ 10:21 PM EST
A2: Yes. As previously mentioned, I believe there is no way to fully prepare students for life without at least a degree of differentiation. Life goes from (in some cases) fully planned to fully choice-driven. How can we expect them to be ready to make those choices? #nvedchat
  • xAndyJorgensen Dec 11 @ 10:21 PM EST
Right? Does stand and deliver reach anyone? #nvedchat
    In reply to @LCHS_Bio
  • thedullguy Dec 11 @ 10:21 PM EST
Ooo, self-monitoring is a good catch. My Diff Instructor trainer said she found her students would challenge themselves more when they had a choice of difficulty level. #nvedchat

A3: Blended Learning and Technology = Differentiation! Blended Learning also allows students to move at their own pace. #NVedchat
  • KierstenBasch Dec 11 @ 10:25 PM EST
Last Q coming up in a minute. #NVedchat
  • thinkLawUS Dec 11 @ 10:26 PM EST
Differentiation is necessary. But the one place where there can be no differentiation is in how much we push students to exceed their potential! #nvedchat #allkids #highexpectations #criticalthinking
  • KierstenBasch Dec 11 @ 10:26 PM EST
Q4:Share how you manage multiple instructional strategies to reach all students and maintain sanity. #NVedchat
  • LCHS_Bio Dec 11 @ 10:26 PM EST
R3: I consider PBS as a form of blended learning. Having multiple outcomes to a given task provides true differentiation of learning and differentiated outcomes. #NVedchat
  • thedullguy Dec 11 @ 10:26 PM EST
R3: The tools in Desmos Activities are awesome in this regard - depending on how teh Q is phrased, students can respond to a prompt/question/graph in words, by sketching, by moving/dragging points on a graph. #nvedchat
  • RichardKnoeppel Dec 11 @ 10:28 PM EST
A4: Be flexible. Never give up. My students are fond of reminding me they don't know what they don't know. #NVedchat
  • EBGtech Dec 11 @ 10:28 PM EST
A4: go slow...we r learners too. Try, fail, try again. When something is successful build on it. Try some more, fail some more, keep trying #nvedchat
    In reply to @KierstenBasch
  • LCHS_Bio Dec 11 @ 10:29 PM EST
R3: Give a task in #PBS, let Ss utilize tech to develop the outcome (video creation, research, etc) and creation of tasks in LMS like @CanvasLMS provides opportunities for ALL Ss to learn and be successful. #NVedchat
  • thedullguy Dec 11 @ 10:29 PM EST
It's starting to gain a foothold in my department as well. So cool that Ts can custom-make activities for their Ss/curriculum in Activity Builder. #nvedchat

A4: Controlled chaos is my classroom #NVedchat
  • MaggieJCox Dec 11 @ 10:30 PM EST
A3 I always offer multiple options for assignments I find it harder for assessments. In Medical class I do practical assessments that my kinesthetic kids do well on, multiple choice responses, scenario responses, hopefully I offer enough that they all do well. #NVedchat
  • KierstenBasch Dec 11 @ 10:31 PM EST
Thank you for joining tonight’s #NVedchat on Differentiated Instruction
  • LCHS_Bio Dec 11 @ 10:31 PM EST
R4: learning should be organized chaos. Ss should have a little bit of guidance and an opportunity to be creative. OH, a good chance to plug my takeover next week of #NVedchat. We will discuss “The 4Cs of Education”
  • NevadaEdChat - Moderator Dec 11 @ 10:31 PM EST
Great Job @KierstenBasch moderating #NVedchat tonight. See everyone next week for a bonus chat.
  • thinkLawUS Dec 11 @ 10:31 PM EST
Heard a HS teacher say the other day that he purposely includes boring lectures because students need to be prepared for college profs that could care less about engagement. Students should be comfortable learning in a variety of ways, "sit n git" included #nvedchat
  • thedullguy Dec 11 @ 10:31 PM EST
Thanks for having me, #nvedchat. I'll take 30 good minutes of #TwitterPD on a Monday night any time. Have a great week.

Q4:Share how you manage multiple instructional strategies to reach all students and maintain sanity. #NVedchat

A4: choice, flexible due dates, allows Ss to work at own level and pace. #NVedchat
  • LCHS_Bio Dec 11 @ 10:38 PM EST
I make assignments and dates when we move onto other tasks. Doesn’t mean that they stop working; we are just going to do more. Learning should take place from day 1 to 180 and if takes till 180 to get stuff done, so be it. #NVedchat
