#divergED A1 I love asking the Ss to convince me, explain why, how do you know? At first they looked afraid-now they think
  • WeberEducation - Moderator Nov 14 @ 8:10 PM EST
A1: We're seeing an increase in the use of open ended tasks, which we think of as "low-floor, high-ceiling" tasks, in the classroom & these tasks are more readily and (freely) available online #divergED
  • miss_trapani Nov 14 @ 8:10 PM EST

A2 I think meaningful learning occurs at the intersection of all 3 of these. No great advances in anything were made from following instructions. Important we open opps. for Ss to take risks #divergED
  • DavidGeurin Nov 14 @ 8:14 PM EST
Risk taking is a necessary part of learning. You have to go out on a limb that's where the fruit is. #divergEd
  • tchrdonna Nov 14 @ 8:14 PM EST

#divergED A4 ask my Ss what they are curious about, what they are interested to learn more about, consult with them for meaningful lesson that they will engage in

A4. Student voice and choice in learning. Empowering Ss in clrm to take lead in disc., demonstrating, teaching other Ss, which allows for collaboration and learning. #diverged

Ts must change their mindset. Learning content cannot be the main goal. There is freedom in relinquishing rote memorization, but with freedom comes great responsibility. Ts must ask themselves what the journey is all about. Where are we taking our Ss? #divergED

#divergED My go-to is asking questions back to their questions. But modeling my own curiosity even if that means stopping a lesson, is pertinent.

#divergED Thanks for a great, although quick chat!

Students select a phenomenon, then Ts provide resources for exploration! Allow students to investigate & explain. #ngss #divergED

A4:) When I introduce tasks to be learned as problems I don’t know how to solve, students jump on the bandwagon to ‘fix it.’#divergED
  • smithdianemarie Nov 14 @ 8:32 PM EST
I’ve found that if students have voice in identifying an authentic and motivating goal that most can get excited about, students will naturally chat and collaborate. The result will be substantially more meaningful than forced, delegated group work. 😀#divergEd

RTQ3: The 4 Cs – Creativity, Critical Thinking, Communication &Collaboration – seem linked to curiosity. Students aren't always successful collaborating and communicating with peers. What supports do you believe lead to student success with rich collaborative discourse? #divergED

Yes! Scaffolding is essential. Moving kids from canned questions to student generated questions based on authentic conversations! #divergED
    • miss_trapani Nov 14 @ 8:23 PM EST
A3: I think it takes a lot of scaffolding in the beginning. This could mean designing discussion questions for students in order to facilitate quality collaboration. Hopefully it becomes more natural as the year progresses #diverged
