I would love to talk OL practice organization
-
I would love to talk OL practice organization
-
How much Indy time do you have with your OL and how do you organize it?
-
We'd love to know how coaches handle parental expectations of their teams.
-
We get 10m 3x a week then 15m 2x a week 7on7
-
We have a parent meeting for all three levels: 9th, JV, and Var. Talk about expectations for players and parents
-
day 1 we work reach blocks , day 2 Drive/Downs with Trap Drill day 3 fix what needed.
-
there are also special group periods we do through the week (jet drill, sweep drill) that incorporate things too
-
how do you guys for yours?
-
We are doing things differently this year because of a school day schedule change
-
-
is that 1 day a week or multiple days? What are your Edds and how long are you spending on them
-
Right now we get about 20 minutes on Monday and 10 minutes on Tuesday
-
Day 1 we will work our steps, fit and finish, and either a reach or drive block.
-
Then we work our plays against the opponent's front
-
On Monday and Tuesday we do a 15 minute blocking circuit, rotating 3 stations: Pass Pro, Cuts, Sled
-
15-20 min. I get in 5-10 min of footwork drills during kicking prepractice
-
They seem to buy in and do what we ask. We have a strong booster club that works well with the program
-
What about during practice?
-
Is that part of your Indy or is that a special part of the practice plan where the whole team is doing that
-
It is a team thing, but OL works together, WRs are together, RBs together...the D performs a tackle circuit
-
Then fundys on boards, chutes or sled. Then specialized drills: combos, pass pro drills. Then play exec, if time
-
-
I maximize number of lines working & stand at vantage point to be able to coach multiple lines
-
what are your base plays? are you a zone team?
-
yes...every level except freshmen
-
Zone, pin/pull, trap team
-
would love to hear more about the bag drills and 4 quarters
-
-
How many lines are you watching at one time? How many OL coaches do you have? we have 2
-
I see...what touch do you add?
-
Combos: I watch 3 groups. Single lines: 5. I have varsity group by myself most of time. DL & LB coaches help on Mon
-
I can tell you im the only OL/TE coach. Its very difficult to teach everyone at once and try to get backups/JV in also
-
What drills are you doing every day? and what are your fixes?
-
agreed. There are days we will rep the JV first to make sure they know the plays and blocking techniques
-
That's a lot to watch...what type of 1v1s do you do with the DL and LBs?
-
so its like a relay race for drive blocking?
-
it's a struggle but having good leaders makes life easier. And I coach sink or swim method. So far so good. Limited time
-
does the "D" try to shake the OL? or just applying resistance?
-
Mon, we lose many to JV game so backs & WRs work pass rts while I get TE/OL. DL & LB coach have great exp & asst
-
cool...might be something to add to the circuit
-
I get 20 min on M and 10 on T...we work steps, fit & finish, then reach or drive.
-
we also work on cuts, pass pro, and sleds during a 15 minute blocking circuit on M and T
-
1vs1 w/ DL mostly on Mon is passpro, working BOB. W/ LBs, zone picking up blitzes. don't fully platoon,75 kids 9-12
-
so we will spend time talking opponent D and repping plays after the EDDs
-
We split our guys up by age so I get older guy fundys on Tues, young pups on Wed. Helps get reps.
