Welcome to our October edition of #KaganChat! Today we're talking about Silly Sports and Goofy Games! Don't forget to include #kaganchat in each tweet so others can see! #KaganADED#SSGG
A1 My favorite Silly sport and goofy game is Cat in a Corner. Students love the competition while having to think on their feet and sharpen their reflexes.#kaganchat
A1: one of my students absolute favorites was 10 count. Any time we would get to 7, 8, and 9 you could physically see students sitting on the edge of their seats. When we would get to 10 students would erupt in celebration #KaganChat
A1. My favorite is Pair Balances. I developed this one as a bodily-kinesthetic experience of Positive Interdependence. PIES in place. I see lots of smiles! Kids and adults love it. !#KaganChat
A1 My kids love juggle the class. I see concentration as they pass the balls and encouragement to students who struggle to remember. After the game the Ss are excited and happy!
#kaganchat
A2: My students loved Show Me, Don’t Show Me! Different students got to shine with their acting abilities and creative interpretations. Loved hearing students compliment each other (unprompted) #KaganChat
#KaganChat We have done the balloon bounce and my high schoolers loved it after lunch. They have really embraced this since I saw Vern at the beginning of the month
A1: we include a new SSGG at each of our monthly meetings. S can’t wait to see what the new game is! We’ve tried a few but Hum Tag and All It Tag are still their favourite. #KaganChat

#KaganChat I love Mirror, Mirror, regardless if preschool students are playing or adults are playing. It is so nice to see, regardless of age, learners making such a strong connection and paying such intense attention to their partner!
A2 As a presenter, I make sure I put 1 or 2 silly sports in every day of my workshop. Adults, as well as students, need oxygen and glucose to stay awake. I do one before I teach something hard.#kaganchat
A2. I fit Silly Sports into my workshops. People are energized and refreshed and come back to the workshop content more focused. I would rather teach 85% of the time with participants 100% alert than to teach 100% of the time with participants 50% alert!#KaganChat
A2: I wish I could say I did them with consistency... we have TDPE and recess in our district so I can implement outdoors 2-3 times a week. I try to get to an indoor SSGG at least 1x each week! #KaganChat
A1. My favorite is Pair Balances. I developed this one as a bodily-kinesthetic experience of Positive Interdependence. PIES in place. I see lots of smiles! Kids and adults love it. !#KaganChat
A2: as much as possible! When teaching in 90 minute blocks, students need to get up and move. A LOT! We did at least 1 brain break a class and most were SS&GG #KaganChat
A2: As an admin, we start our staff professional development with a SSGG. They only take a few minutes and are worth the time spent. It is a great way to get staff laughing and having fun together! #Kaganchat
A2 I try to do them as often as possible, but I'll be honest - I don't get them in often enough. We walk the room or dance with go noodle. Need to make them a priority. #kaganchat
A1 My kids love juggle the class. I see concentration as they pass the balls and encouragement to students who struggle to remember. After the game the Ss are excited and happy!
#kaganchat
A2: with brain friendly teaching, I encourage staff to include as much as needed for 2-3 minutes and for daily physical activity which is mandated in our Alberta curriculum #KaganChat
A2: My students loved Show Me, Don’t Show Me! Different students got to shine with their acting abilities and creative interpretations. Loved hearing students compliment each other (unprompted) #KaganChat
A2: I usually tried to get 1 per day on average. I more than made up the time spent because student brains were more awake and prepared to learn! #KaganChat
A2: I try to do at least a few #ssgg each week. Kids need the movement to energize them. I really want to do it more often, but I need to get familiar with more of the activities so I can think quickly which to choose in appropriate moments. #kaganchat

#KaganChat Hi! I’m Myrissa, a trainer for Kagan Australia. A1 Students (and teachers!) love Cat in the Corner, Fox in the Tree and Mirror Mirror. They show such a sense of camaraderie and support.
A3. My favorite Tag Game is Hum Tag. It can go on and on as “It’s” catch someone who becomes an It who catches someone who becomes an It who catches someone who…. I like a game that runs itself. !#KaganChat
A2: I usually tried to get 1 per day on average. I more than made up the time spent because student brains were more awake and prepared to learn! #KaganChat
A3: If I can be honest, I’m kind of scared to try the tag games. I just bought the SS&GG book before school started, and I’m teaching in a portable classroom trailer, so it’s cramped. How do others manage the tag games? #kaganchat
A3 Triangle Tag. Three team members hold hands. One of the three is the target. One team member, who is outside the triangle, tries to tag the target. The two teammates do everything they can to protect their target. If the target is tagged everyone switches places #Kaganchat
A3: Freezer, Unfreezer Tag has the biggest impact on workshop participants! They get enough oxygen and glucose to push through the end of the day. It’s amazing to see what 30 seconds of a tag game does to the energy in the room #KaganChat
A3 #KaganChat I love so many tag games, but I’m thinking that my favorite is Quick Tag because it eliminates so much of the competitiveness of many tag games. I love getting learners to briskly walk instead of run to get the hearts pumping! #RunningThroughMolasses
#KaganChat Hi! I’m Myrissa, a trainer for Kagan Australia. A1 Students (and teachers!) love Cat in the Corner, Fox in the Tree and Mirror Mirror. They show such a sense of camaraderie and support.
A4: I saw/heard a K student tell her friends today... ok... this time you have to walk like you are in slime because the space is too big and we are getting too far away to tag each other! 2 cute!! #kaganchat
Students sit with a partner feet to feet and bottoms almost touching. They use their arm strength to try to push their bottoms up off the floor with feet still pressed together. #kaganchat
A4. For workshops I cant have folks break out into a dead run, so I tell them they are walking in deep, thick molasses to slow down the action. It is fun to see a tag game run in slow motion. !#KaganChat
A3:I just played Triangle Tag at a Kagan Coaches Training today. I hadn’t played it yet; it was harder than it sounded! I can’t wait to play it with my First Graders. #Kaganchat
A4: I enjoy debriefing with my S’s after a new structure or game to hear their input so it’s always fun to hear how they would change it or add to it. Maze walker allowed my students to get creative with their ideas #KaganChat
A5. In my workshops I see a much more positive tone after playing helper games and balance games. Frankly, I am always surprised to see adults having so much fun with a silly game like Air Traffic Controller. The games give us permission to play!#KaganChat
#KaganChat show a quick YouTube clip of slow-motion instant replay. Explain that they have to “run” through pretend waste deep molasses (I.e. walk briskly). If they “water down their molasses” you can remind them with a quick “molasses” warning.

A5: using helper games has let my students communicate with each other to achieve a goal that they see attainable. With the changing of groups and partners, using the helper games lets everyone learn how to work together #KaganChat

#KaganChat A5 I’ve seen students who don’t always treat their peers with respect start demonstrating more genuine concern and kindness after a few minutes of Air Traffic Controller. I just modeled it last week in a high school classroom with a teacher who asked for support.

Nooooooo!!!!! My timer didn’t go off to remind me about #kaganchat tonight!!! Sorry I’m way late. Eli, Lead Learner/Principal from NM. I’ll jump in now for the rest.
A6: I like to use an individual game called “In 60 seconds...”. I give each each a task that they have to work through in 60 sec. like hopping on one foot or trying to count by 2’s on a sheet of paper. I’ve found it’s a different way to reenergize a class #KaganChat
A6: We did an old fashioned scavenger hunt to start our staff meeting. We did a line-up and put them in groups of 4. They couldn't let go of hands or unhook arms. The hunt was for items like a lunch tray, a yellow crayon, a staff's family picture, etc. They LOVED it! #kaganchat
#KaganChat I definitely 100% agree, @jessica_reddout! Silly sports help create a stronger sense of classroom community where students demonstrate more respect and care for one another!
A6 I do rely heavily on Silly Sports for this but I do often pull in games from when I was a PE teacher, @GoNoodle, Minute to Win It type things or other tasks like @breakoutEDU as well #KaganChat
I was missing you, Eli! Glad you’re here. It’s so nice to see all the great things you’re doing at your new school with your regular tweets! #KaganChat

Bonus: After doing SS&GG Two Face Monster today at coaches training, I’m going to do that with my first Graders tomorrow. I can’t wait to see the spooky faces they use! #Kaganchat
Bonus - not much! My street doesn't have sidewalks and no kids come :( Usually I make a stuffed pumpkin (with apples, nuts, sugar - topped with icecream) - its yummy and that is our Halloween. Class party was last Friday #kaganchat
A6. Just Dance and Go Noodle are great! I still prefer the games in the SSGG books though. Kids rack up a lot of screen time nowadays and it’s good to give them to have a break. #KaganChat
We did something similar at the beginning of the year for teachers but with an iron chef theme. Groups had to make an item for our lunch without having to use an oven 😄 #kaganchat
#KaganChat I love to use an old-fashioned conga line with teams lining up in a single-file line. When the music starts, The front team member leads the group. When the music stops, the leader rotates to the end of the line, getting high fives from everyone.
BQA: We are having a Character Day Parade at school! After school I will be going to the gym and then it’ll be a quiet night at home handing out treats #KaganChat

A2 As a T I did them once a day at least. I would bust one out when I’d start to see the glazed over look coming on. As an Admin now I always do either a Team Builder or a SSGG to start out every PLC, PD or Staff Meeting #KaganChat
