This is so important.
My daughter's college roommate is a robotics engineer.
She told me she attended a robotics conference with more than 1000 attendees and she was one of only 3 women. We really need to change this dynamic.
So agree! There is so much that girls can add. My daughter (a insight director) has research on how much companies loose because they don't have enough diversity in the different roles, This is hard to do if we can get girls in the door. #scitlap
Hi. Dan from Wisconsin. Various HS science classes facilitator. 1) play with my toddler, 2) play with my toddler and 3) play outside with my toddler. He keeps me busy. #scitlap
Q1: As the year wraps up it is time to celebrate the great things that happened in your class. What are 1, 2 or 3 things you are glad you did this year #scitlap
Glad I switch to SBG outright. Glad I did a project based unit in a class. Glad I let Ss take total control in the unit that followed the project based unit. #scitlap

Hello #scitlap
Melissa, 7th Grade Science here.
I am glad I
1-joined the Twitterverse
2-used my Chromebooks a lot more this year
3-started my Ted-ed club
A1: I am glad I gamified this year. It has made it more fun for me and my kids. I also did a better job of blogging. It made a difference for me to reflect on what went well/ not so well and plan for improvement. #scitlap
Okay, I want to hear more about the student control unit. how did you get them to be in control while following standards? That is the struggle I always deal with. #scitlap
A1: Three things I'm happy I did. #scitlap
1. Mentored @AmadioLifeSci . I hope I helped her, but she helped me too.
2. Have such great relationships my kids.
3. Dive into Google Classroom and Google Everything!
I'm glad I gamified too. Though it wasn't the complete success I hoped it would be. There is so much possibility AND so much more I can do to improve next year. #scitlap
My list of improvements is so long, but it is kind of exciting to consider what it will look like. I think I learned things that will work as well as things that need tweaking. #scitlap

I haven't had time to reflect yet and make a list. Just had Ss take the first part of the NYS science test today. Running around like a crazy person till #USMSpark#scitlap
@PhETsims covered a lot of things for me in chemistry. @pascoscientific sensor equipment allowed my Ss to take CO2 production rates for muscle activity and EKG (and others). Favorite time of year - end of year anatomy dissection of fetal pigs. #scitlap
I love Rube Goldberg Machines @KristenSevinsky I didn't get to do them this year because of a job change. I hope to get my 5th grade teachers doing them. #scitlap
A2: Not really a lab, but I tried #hyperdocs a bit this year. It made my techtonics plate learn part more engaging. Here is what I used...it is a work in progress still. https://t.co/mft0xyBm0q#scitlap
A1 Swtiching jobs and teaching a STEAM class to K-5 students. Learning to teach the little K-1 kids who are so sweet (what was I afraid of), and traveling in my motorshome. #scitlap
Q3: Sometimes it is good to change things up. What are 1, 2 or 3 sources you go to for inspiration when you are looking to add/change/or enrich a lesson. #scitlap
A2) -brought in a surgeon to help set the stage for frog dissection
-used google classroom, with LOTS of room for improvement
-digital breakout (used @iamkesler unit!) #scitlap
A2 #scitlap
I have amnesia about what i do each year, but what i can think of
1-Newton's Law Demo Creation
2-gas laws with a vacuum pump
3-quizlet live for anything
I so understand. That was us last week. Thanks for joining us. Hopefully you can find some takeaways tonight that you can consider for next year, or that will remind you of some of the cool things you have done. #scitlap
A3) -JUST started reading #eduprotocols
-I go back to my #TLAP book for hooks that I haven't thought of in a long time
-the #filemakeacopy has been an open column on my tweetdeck - LOTS of gems here!
#scitlap
Yes, so we looked at pictures of what Google headquarters looked like, how does it inspire creativity and outside the box thinking...then, we borrowed rolling chairs, yoga balls and other seating/work stations to change up the room and research whatever caused a spark #scitlap
Q4: Learning has to be adjusted as you go using different formative assessment tools and tricks. What are your 1, 2 or 3 favorite formative assessments? #scitlap
We can get heart rate mostly. But students can actually see the capillary connection between arterioles and venuoles.
It is AWESOME.

A3: With teaching 2 grade levels it seems I have many different places I go. This year I have gotten more form @TED_ED and https://t.co/tGkYxMU4Nb Of cource my #pln on twitter has also been priceless. #scitlap
We have done similar. Students look at what they had the lowest mastery on and may 60 second tutorials. I need to get them off my LMS and on to youtube. #scitlap
Q5: There are so many different ways to check for student learning beyond the traditional test. What are 1, 2 or 3 ways your students show what they know? #scitlap
Q4: Learning has to be adjusted as you go using different formative assessment tools and tricks. What are your 1, 2 or 3 favorite formative assessments? #scitlap
You have to try @gimkit My kids ask for it. It levels the playing field in so many ways. I also find it so cool that it was developed by a high school student. #scitlap
A5 I have had more students create models. We just finished space and they created models of aliens that had adaptations so they could live on their planet. I loved the thinking and the creativity. #scitlap
A.5 Pecha Kucha
20 slides, 20 images, 20 seconds of narration per slide. Tell your story in 6 minutes and 40 seconds.
Constraints lead to creativity.

No....I've only dabbled, but I have an expert PBL health teacher across the hall from me. She always inspires me and sends me tons of PBL resources. #scitlap
Q6: Being a connected educator has benefits for you and your students. What are 1, 2 or 3 of your favorite hashtags, besides #scitlap you go to for inspiration.
#scitlap
At the high school level scripting 20 slides is a difficult task. It is so hard to listen to dead air and students really learn the value of planning and practice.
#scitlap
Ahhh the difference in age. At MS I find if I give them too much time they get themselves in trouble. They learn by the end of the year how to be concise #scitlap.
Q6: Being a connected educator has benefits for you and your students. What are 1, 2 or 3 of your favorite hashtags, besides #scitlap you go to for inspiration.
#scitlap
A6) My school uses grade level hashtags with the word davis in front, so I keep #davis6#davis7 and #davis8 open too. Helps me stay connected with all 3 ms grade levels #scitlap
Q7: Summer is a great time to learn by the pool, in the car, or wherever you are. Share 1, 2 or 3 PD books you have read or are planning on reading soon (and why). #scitlap
A6) I love to keep the tab open for conferences too (even if I'm not attending) I suppose I'll have to start a #notatusmspark this summer (@Chucktaft) #scitlap
A7) used my first "end of year teacher gift" to order #eduprotocols part of the incredible output from @dbc_inc I've only read the intro and love it already #scitlap
A7 I want to read Make it Stick this summer along with Eduprotocols. I'll decide during June what else to read. Probably a GBL or Gamification book. #scitlap
Both excellent choices. I am curuisou to see what you’re take-aways from Make It Stick are. You need to add the posts from https://t.co/I8K6o2gBGf as well. #scitlap
