A1 Energetic, supportive, focused, willing, respectful, able to see and communicate other people's potential, can remind others' of their purpose/WHY, will take time to brainstorm #waledchat

A1: "There's nothing we can't do," as a successful collaborative team when we are . . .positive, flexible, inspiring, supportive, motivating, innovative, nurturing, collaborative, empowering, inclusive, patient, honest, & understanding
#waledchat
Brent from Magrath Hi #waledchat
A1: A team that everyone wants to be like haha. No really though a successful team creates greatness for the students they serve.
A1: A successful & collaborative team bravely chooses to be “all in!” They show up ready to work, be vulnerable with each other, & trust in each other’s talents. Where one leaves off, the other picks up. #waledchat
A1 A collaborative team is focused on our students, has integrity, is well prepared, knows and implements #bestpractices, has a strong work ethic, and a willingness to share and be shared with. And brings candy to share. #waledchat
#waledchat A1: A successful collaboration team listens, is respectful of all ideas and opinions, and has the same goal in mind....to do what’s best for ALL kids.
A1: A successful collab. team needs communication, trust, and respect. I think it also needs to have open-mindedness as well as appreciation for what works! I mean, the list could go on and on! #waledchat
#WaledChat - A1 - I think great collaborative teams listen to each other, but also support each other through tough times. No one is perfect and we all make mistakes. Great collaborative teams raise each other up when mistakes are made and overcome them.
A1 I was blessed to be part of an amazing team. We supported each other. Worked together to create learning experiences for our Ss. We also were able to be objective with each other and bounce ideas off of each other @LisaMFaria1@CDumond2#waledchat
A1 #waledchat Characteristics include respectful discourse; trust, open & honest communication/exchange of ideas, and an openness to listening to all who are at the table.
A1: Collaborative teams have a vision and members that care more about that vision than their own egos. They want to be a part of something greater than themselves. #waledchat
A1 Operates on a clear collective vision, focused on a clear goal, consistent in their support to help each other reach the goal, purposeful in their communication, & take what may seem to be to others as obstacles & turn them into opportunities for success #waledchat
A1: supportive, encouraging, energetic people who you can trust to collaborate with, problem solve with, cry to, vent to or just chat about life with and know that what you say stays with your group. You push each other to bring the best for OUR kids every. single. day! #waledchat
A1: A successful collaborative team is one where everyone listens with their heart, seeks to understand, is open to differing perspectives, dedicated to empowering learning, and one that is innovative. #waledchat
A1: I think it defintely requires a team who acknowledge each other's strengths and weaknesses and how best to manage the task within that. The synergy of a team is so much more than individual work. #waledchat
A1:
A team whose members listen and give input, that takes advantage of members’ strengths and works to help others work on weaknesses, keeps the vision of the group in their sites. (Or sights) #waledchat
A1: Supportive. Compassionate. Caring. Thoughtful. Intentional. Servant-hearted. Willing to listen. Not "too qualified" to do the lowest task. #waledchat
A successful collaborative team listen, work together, share ideas, trust, lean on each other, help one another, plan in mind with goals and objectives! #waledchat
A1: A successful collaborative team has a common vision and puts ego aside for the better of that vision. They communicate honestly, are empathetic, and trust that each member is working toward success in all decisions. #waledchat
#WaledChat Above all great listening skills-being present by intentionally listening, interact respectfully and being open-minded and mindful. A successful team supports and builds up their colleagues as well as advocates for themselves. They make sure all voices are heard.
A1: Willing to learn, willing to fail, innovative, puts the needs of the child first, trusting, team players, risk takers, open, honest, sharing, reflective #waledchat
A1 A great team is focused on the students. We need all the players on the team to win! All in, every student, every team member, every day! #waledchat
A2: The biggest thing that gets in the way of a successful collaboration is EGO. I have been in groups where outsized egos won't let the group move forward. I have also been that outsized ego too.
I have learned that we're #bettertogether#waledchat
A2 Negativity, complaining, assumptions instead of questions, not giving the benefit of the doubt, jealousy, ending discussions of a positive purpose #waledchat
A5: Listening and talking things over solve a lot of problems. Often times we don't know everything that is going on in ppl's lives that is affecting work and collaboration. It's important to be honest and straightforward w/ each other to avoid build up. #waledchat
A2: A team cannot be successful at collaboration if they don't trust and value one another. In order to move forward you have to be able to communicate effectively and recognize that each member brings different areas of expertise & experience to the team. #waledchat
A1 #waledchat Not all teams are going to get along 100% of the time. But egos have to be set aside in order for genuine work to be done. The focus needs to be on students not individual personalities and disagreements
A1) A successful team works together like a well oiled machine. When an admin or visitors come in the room, you can't distinguish which teacher is the exceptional ed or the regular ed teacher.#waledchat
Craig from PA. Sorry I’m late to the party.
A1 - A team that shares a vision of excellence for staff and students. Also, a willingness to provide meaningful feedback. #waledchat
Honesty is often the hardest part being a strong collaborative team. But, it is absolutely necessary and needs to be viewed as constructive and not an attack on idea/person. #waledchat
A2: Continued connection keeps teams working well together, even if its personal and not work. Often teams start strong and drift apart, collaboration goes away as well.
#waledchat
A2 - Lack of trust and disproportionate sharing of responsibilities can very quickly tear a team apart. Everyone is willing to pull their share and more if they know they can trust the other team members to do the same! #waledchat
Hi. Little late. Dan from Wisconsin. HS science teacher. Listen and respond appropriately. Well led with clear objectives. Ability to compromise when needed. #waledchat
#waledchat On a successful, collaborate team every member has to feel like their contribution or ability to contribute is not just welcome but desired. Like they have a unique role to play which would make the group less if they were absent.
A2: A partnership or team can become not successful at collaboration if they do not effectively work together and if they have different interests in mind. #waledchat
#waledchat A2: A collaboration team is not successful when someone’s main focus is to be right or is not willing to listen to the opinions of others. Everyone needs to go in with an open mind and keep the students their main priority.
A2 Assigning blame rather than focusing on the problem; more chatter and less work, less listening and more talkingl remebering everyone is human. #waledchat
A2: take everything I listed in A1, and do the opposite...fastest way for a team to break down is lack of communication, trust, and respect! #waledchat
#WaledChat A2- I think that harboring personal issues with others is a fast track to disrupting a good team. I also think that doing things a certain way just because they've always been done that way is another way to prevent teams from being successful.
A2: things that can keep a duo or team from being successful: noncommunicative, hold grudges, take things personal, dont look at the bigger picture. #waledchat
A2: Lack of time, space, and/or resources. Like the teams who didn't qualify for the World Cup after winning numerous previous World Cups, a team that doesn't have what they need can't thrive, even if they were successful in the past. #waledchat
A2) Fear- I think that people fear what others might think, fear you can’t do something, fear someone doesn’t like your ideas, fear that they won’t take a risk #waledchat
Ego, that can be a tricky one to work with for sure! These are all very difficulty things to work around when you are looking for true collaboration! #waledchat
A2. #waledchat Lack of trust & commitment, one-up-manship, loss of focus, undermining the efforts of the whole in favor of the one/few...just to name a few.
A2 - when it’s all about “I” and rarely about team. A lack of respect for what team member brings to the table. Sometimes a lack of actual goals can make things impossible to agree on outcomes. #waledchat
A2: Selflessness to the team or project beyond personal motivations..usually its those that are selfish get offended. Communication as well can encourage transparency and adjustments as needed. #waledchat
A2 Successful teams have to be cultivated at the school level. Collaboration and not competition needs to be the focus. Teams are only as strong as their weakest member, so honest reflection and respect are crucial for the team to develop #waledchat
Hi Laura Beth!!!!! So glad you are here tonight! Talking to a first grade teacher today about your Seesaw goodness! Keep it coming :)! #waledchat#champforkids
A2 Lack of clear vision, lack of ownership of stated goals, lack of clear communication, failure to value contributions of all team members, failure to re-focus the team’s collaborative work when distractions occur #waledchat
I was once forced to collaborate with a teacher who repeatedly reported me to admin for things I hadn't done wrong. I just sat there and looked out the window. Couldn't do it. #waledchat
A2: When one person seeks credit for ideas that are part of the teams vision. This kills any and all momentum a team has in their vision. It creates animosity and fractures the relationships built within the team. #waledchat
A3: The biggest collaborative win I that comes to mind is when @Mummertopia and I outlined our entire year of #APLang. 1 of my sections was collapsed at the end of semester 1, so I had a whole new course to teach. Our outline helped me finish the year, sanity intact!
#waledchat
#waledchat Ego. When there seems to be competition rather than collaboration things can fall apart. Lack of communication and isolation cause rifts and ruptures- there has to be protocols and expectations- this keeps a team on track & purposeful
Collaborative teams struggle most when they lose sight of their vision or one is missing. They also struggle when nobody is courageous enough to hold people accountable. They let one thing slip, and then another, and then another. It's a death by a thousand cuts. #WaledChat
A2. When teams lack a positive mindset, are not open to multiple perspectives, and do not equally have an all in mentality they are not successful #waledchat
A2: A team can not be successful at collaboration if agenda pushers are not addressed and are allowed to work under the guise of collaboration toward the completion of their own agenda. Be bold, don't let this happen. #champforkids#waledchat
A3 At the end of the year our team showed the movie Wonder and then we rotated them around to do 4 Kindness based activities. It was a nice way to end the year. We worked on it as a team to develop. #waledchat
A3: A GL was working through differing points of view on a PBL that was being presented to Ss & the conversation became quite heated. Once everyone took a moment to pause & reflect, they realized that they all wanted the same thing & began working to achieve that goal. #waledchat
A3: Team 7 at my school has lots of wins when we are able to successfully collaborate with parents/guardians of students who are struggling. Great to be able to all know we are on the same side... the side of the child! #waledchat
Collaborative teams struggle most when they lose sight of their vision or one is missing. They also struggle when nobody is courageous enough to hold people accountable. They let one thing slip, and then another, and then another. It's a death by a thousand cuts. #WaledChat
A2 Teams can’t collaborate when they feel threatened by each other, or when each individual is so focused on their own goals that they can’t be flexible. #waledchat
A3: When we had time to meet, plan, and grow. We didn't have to stay late or come in early. Collaboration time was built into the day - an HOUR each day. It was worth it. #waledchat
In any type of successful organization the keys are:
Respect
Admiration
Honesty
Patience
Sharing goals
Smart Risk Taking
Never blaming others
#waledchat
The times when a team I was on had issues- lack of communication and assuming intentions #waledchat - as soon as open-dialogue took place issues resolved themselves
Cliques can be very difficult. I always work hard to focus on the reason that we are here and that is the students. Keep those connections strong and at the forefront of your work and you will be good! #waledchat
A2: A collaborative team fails when there is no trust, no respect, there is only contempt, folks are late and don’t deliver what they promised, and some have only a desire to be done and be gone. Now I am cranky! #waledchat
A3: I have been fortunate to be on highly energetic, collaborative teams. Every time we collaborate, the activities are much better than they would have been. When we put our brains together, the sky's the limit! #waledchat
#waledchat It's difficult to balance "having a clear vision" and not "predetermining a vision of success." A team has to be open to what the result might look like. Else, someone's ideas might not be well received and someone might be driving too hard, too fast to listen.
Post your favorite high school musical gif/or quote if you think @khoggardGRT and @CristinaDajero got their "head in the game" with these great Q's! #waledchat
A3: Co-presenting with @MrPStrunk was a huge win throughout the collaboration process. An immense joy to see him present again at other conferences and with other people!
#waledchat
A3: Collaborated w/ HS teacher in Texas to do long-distance #PBL using @Flipgrid and google apps to collaborate. Was a win because Ss instantly got to work and were into collaborating w/ each other when we worked on that project! #waledchat
A3: I think the best collaboration happens when we sprinkle in a little humor, levity, & playfulness! Creativity can result in the best wins of all! #waledchat
A3: Collaborating resulted in a win many times because of Twitter. I was able to collaborate with outstanding educators and even emailed an architect due to planning a #teachfurther unit for next year. #waledchat
A3: I have been fortunate to be on highly energetic, collaborative teams. Every time we collaborate, the activities are much better than they would have been. When we put our brains together, the sky's the limit! #waledchat
A3: special education is all about collaboration! My parents, students, teachers and myself all worked together this past semester, while I was student teaching, to ensure the students got exactly what they needed! #waledchat
A3: Collaborating with like minded teachers in district who helped make classroom transformations even better and help make sure the work I was asking the kids to do was on point and not just part of my theme! @theodore_lauren@ChristyGoff19@jchandlerteach the best! #waledchat
A3: I collaborated with a local theatre for a playwriting class. Every year we worked together in and out of the classroom to see students create monologues, write a play, and perform all their own original work for the school and community. It was amazing! #waledchat
A2: The speed of life, or not knowing the job yet, or not knowing your content yet, which translates to stress, which translates to don't bother me with anything that exists outside of my brain, which translates to isolation... #waledchat
A2: distrust and pride keeps a team from collaborating to its fullest extent. All members need to wholeheartedly believe that the best interest of the kids is at the forefront of all courses of action; note self promotion. #trust#waledchat#bettertogether
A3: My grade level sat down one day and we found a way to integrate math with our reading to help catch up after our snow days! We talked with our specialists who helped us make sure we covered everything! I love integrating! #waledchat
It's a rough road when your leader is a my way or the highway person. Sometimes you have to slowly steer their path without them even knowing that they are taking a detour! #waledchat
#WaledChat When an inspiring idea sparked a new way of doing things and collaboratively it came to fruition- every member taking ownership and together forging a great lesson our grade level science student EDcamp
A3: recently I collaborated with a 2nd grade teacher and 5th grade teacher to help improve our PLCs. Prior, we had never talked at school. We left with different perceptions (good) about each other #waledchat
A3: I worked with a colleague in creating a student driven lesson on the Renaissance. A great success with awesome creations, commercials, student designed rubrics. We co-taught on designing rubrics. #waledchat
A3: we were able to meet and talk about the curriculm. Our students did really well and we shared ideas and strategies that worked and revised when it didnt. #waledchat
A3 I'm so lucky to work within a team that we collaborate all the time. Our latest win came last week when we sat together to create an activity that will be now be used within our district. #waledchat
A3 Several years ago the team I was on split our grade level based on data to provide interventions in Math. We did it every Friday. Ss went to different classes and worked on their specific area of need. It was amazing to see the children move up so quickly. #waledchat
A3 - During the end of the year, our team developed new standards and ideas for the block schedule coming up. This happened, because we are excited for change and we all realize that shared goals will benefit students. #waledchat
A3: When @kualoaha1, @DMartesi, and I were able to pull off our first EDCampPD last year, with the help of some amazing #btsdtigers teachers. Collaborative vision & goal #waledchat
A3: grant awarded to me and a colleague, only after we realized we had drastically different ideas about how to proceed. Strong disagreement and discourse followed. We weren’t as industrious as we had planned but we made progress and both made compromise #waledchat
A3- Working on 2nd grade animal non-fiction writing. Working with teachers to combine research and technology to enhance the students writing. #WaledChat
#waledchat Last year had a great collaborative relationship with my Dept. Chair. We worked on "Mathacognition" (see my blog) together, developing questions and planning activities and pacing for our Ss. It was a win because we both wanted to grow as Ts and serve Ss. No egos.
A2: Having a negative attitude or saying that your Ss can’t do an activity will make things not successful. We need to have a positive mindset! #waledchat
A4 People were absolutely not listening to each other. Even when asked, "is anyone even listening?" There was only one apologetic voice, "I am." Disheartening.
But once in years of a team is a pretty great record! Every group is allowed a bad day. On to the next! #waledchat
A3~Ss was struggling with living in two separate homes on a rotating basis~ came together with guardians & parents to mutually agree to actions that helped ease the issues and was a win/win due to trust, respect and child being number 1 in less than ideal situation #waledchat
Brian Callaghan, HS Principal in Westboro, MA. Very much a pleasure to be following along here... A1: Energy/Passion, Honesty, Integrity, and Perspective are signs of a high functioning collaborative team, in my opinion #waledchat
A3: We meet daily during our planning time to discuss struggling Ss & develop a plan to get them back on track. We invite Ss, Ps, & As in to join us and develop a plan together. Conversation includes everyone's ideas & builds the plan for success & accountability. #waledchat
A3: This school year resulted in a huge win for me and my colleague. We were at 90% proficient in reading and math on our end of grade tests. #waledchat
As a supt, We collaborated with pk district to build multi-use facilities that could be used by our students during day & pk programs at night, weekends & summer. Shared us of community's resources #waledchat
A3: I think the best collaboration happens when we sprinkle in a little humor, levity, & playfulness! Creativity can result in the best wins of all! #waledchat
A3: We has success during a mini Educamp style PD. It was successful because teachers were able to chose what topics they wanted to collaborate on and they were invested in the conversations. #waledchat
A3: Collaborating always results in a win when everyone gets their turn to share then we can put our ideas together to come up with something fit for all children. I love when this happens! #waledchat
A3: 2 years ago I finished reading the book, Empower and was ready empower my Ss,at the same time that our new GRT was hired. We were on the same page and as a fairly new cluster teacher I was a sponge to all new ideas. The growth I saw in my Ss and myself was amazing. #waledchat
Saying that Ss can't do something is a sure fire way to set your collaboration back. Staying positive and making changes that fit your students is the best way! #waledchat
A2: Having a negative attitude or saying that your Ss can’t do an activity will make things not successful. We need to have a positive mindset! #waledchat
A3 #waledchat At my former school myself and several other teachers wanted to have a multicultural night- we didn’t know each other, we were in different grade levels etc. But we found each other, planned and made it happen
A4 #waledchat
During a dept mtg a colleague took something I said personally (wasn't sure why) and got very defensive. It was hard to recover after that, but we just kept going. You never know how people will receive your message sometimes. #waledchat
A4: Had a time where collaboration broke down between two sides, because we let ego get in the way. Left feeling frustrated and not heard. :/ #waledchat
A4: I often share LA PD with GL during collaborative planning. On this occasion, the GL didn't seem to understand the dramatic impact that the strategies could have on their Ss- they were more concerned with who was going to make the materials FOR them not WITH them #waledchat
A3: I like to think of my #2ndchat PLN who collaborate a rediculous amount because we all focus on being a connected future-ready classroom. We do alot really cool class collabotations including GRA, Hangouts, and more. We push each other and embrace new ideas #waledchat
A3: Admin & staff collaborated to change the 6th grade teaming structure & schedule to better support students; it was truly a win-win this year #waledchat
A3: each and every time I get together with @m_schoeneberger@ScottOste and another tt! It’s amazing how all our strengths complement each other!!! I’ve grown so much by working so closely with them!!! #waledchat
It's amazing to me how important maintain the status quo (which often includes keeping the peace and maintaining mediocrity for those who will not make an effort) is to some folks. #Waledchat
A3: Getting to collaborate with @megan_hacholski for the last 6 years was like living in a dream. She is the best teammate that anyone can ask for. She is willing to compromise and be honest with me when I'm acting like a fool. Most things we touched turned to gold. #waledchat
I hope so too 😂 I think it was! It reminded me of when I was in 1st grade and everyone in the class tattled so often that the teacher designated 5 mins a day as "tattle time" and weren't allowed to tattle at any other time hahaha total fail #waledchat
A3: Not education related but collaborating always helped in escape rooms. We all have different pieces of the puzzle so we couldn't be successful individually. #waledchat
A3b - Shared wins happen when all members truly see value in what changes will happen. Too often adults will agree to make change, but only with their voices and not actions. I call it the “close my door” attitude. #waledchat
A4: I had a grad class project... I made 95% of the presentation due to others not offering up anything (even other group members sections). Then one asked if they could present one of my section's slides they really liked...
#waledchat
A4 There have been times during collaborations where someone said they would do something and didn't follow through ☹️ It caused drama, not following through #waledchat
A3. Collaboration on twitter and through some conferences is powerful by sharing of ideas, new approaches to learning, different aspects you walk away with to share with others! #waledchat
A3: Our SmartLab! The collaboration between our science teachers and our Smart Lab facilitators led to an award-winning lab in the very first year! #waledchat
My team has a rule- if you do not address the issue, individually with the person within 24 hours, you have to let it go. No festering, no negativity #Waledchat
A4: I listened to several coworkers complain about admin wanting each department to come up with a retake policy. I was speechless- why should we allow students to move on to new skills before they've demonstrated they've mastered the previous ones? #waledchat
I am not at liberty to do so, sorry. I have followers who literally pull my tweets out of context. Aggravating, as this is an important topic to discuss. #waledchat
A3 @SrtaLyon and I collaborated in a @SkypeClassroom Virtual Field Trip to the Tucan Rescue Ranch in Costa Rica. This was the beginning of our experience with using Skype. It is has now become a part of what we do and we hope to continue building on what we have done.#waledchat
A4: There’s been times for many different reasons, but some of the times it is because of personal stress going on and I was more focused on that than task at hand. I try hard to leave it at the door, but sometimes that’s hard! #waledchat
We go together like peas and carrots my friend ;)! So blessed to have you to collaborate with and to sit back and watch Ss soar each day because of your hard work! We are unstoppable! #waledchat
Sometimes you dont forgive and forget you move past it and keep going and rebuild the trust like you would do if you had a new partner come in. I had to do this w/ a situation this year w/ a coworker. it hurt it sucked but we got passed it and it was better #waledchat
A4: Any situation when I don't feel the goal or vision is clear or shared by the group leader, I start checking out. Usually those work sessions devolve into side convos, negative talk, and wastes of time. #waledchat
#waledchat When I was young, I regretted the things I did and said. Now that I'm older, I regret my silence and inaction.
If I'm at a loss for words, I still try to ramble through my thoughts..even poorly...and thanking my colleagues for their patience. I have to get it out!
A4 - I am often at a loss for words when people come to collaborations unprepared. It is incredibly disrespectful and counter productive for the entire group. Just one of those things that bugs me! #waledchat
Collaboration is hard sometimes because I serve as teacher prep so teachers don't always want to work together because it is one more thing to do. It is frustrating but I just keep trying. #WaledChat
A4. #waledchat The times that are most frustrating are when as a team you make decisions, agreements & plans and people walk away and do what they want, despite was agreed upon or they had input to.
A3- Our team collaborated on Camp Adventure enabling Ss in our District to experience a summer camp with STEM, Agriculture, Dance, Theater etc... an experience they not have been able to have otherwise @whesmesposito@aaiello17@FaridJohnson@PeteDiBernardi#waledchat
A4: Once I was sure we all had the same vision and ppl backed out of a project to build staff culture and just couldn't believe it! Was wondering how ppl could not want or not care about that! #waledchat
A3) Also, having a former collaborative partner that we taught together for 3 years. There was trust and flexibility within our partnership. #waledchat
#waledchat At a former school, there was a heated discussion during our ELA meeting and one teacher stood up and said shut up you ignorant fool to another teacher (plus some other expletives) silence. That teacher was suspended b/c of their visceral and expletive speech
A4. Being new to a team that has worked together for a long time and has a certain rhythm sometimes can be a challenge when the old team members don't want change. #waledchat
A2: jealousy leads to resentment. A colleague at a school party asked me if I had been working on school stuff during the summer. Such an odd response I got. Since when is it a competition of who is doing more? #WaledChat
A4 I have seen collaboration break down when personal goals get in the way. We should always remember that all decisions should be what is best for Ss! #waledchat
A3: I learned long ago that your team may not be the 1 you’ve been assigned, but one you make. I enjoy win after win cuz I collab w/ a diverse group of educators across grades, subjects, schools, & even states! Twitter has only added 2 this collaboration celebration! #waledchat
A4: I've gone into collaborative sessions and been bombarded by an Admin that was placing blame on me for something I had no knowledge of and was not involved with. Immediately, I felt any conversation would be unproductive. I spoke my piece and left. #waledchat
My team has a rule- if you do not address the issue, individually with the person within 24 hours, you have to let it go. No festering, no negativity #Waledchat
A4 I have seen collaboration break down when personal goals get in the way. We should always remember that all decisions should be what is best for Ss! #waledchat
a2b: Why can’t we al just lift each other up? I gave some silly reason why I was working during the summer to smooth things over like I usually do... 😬#waledchat
A5: A couple of things have helped me with difficult collaborations: staying humble, presuming everyone involved wants the best for kids, and serving in a capacity that really helps (i.e. take notes, gather resources, contact potential partners).
#waledchat
A5 Seek out other teams, beyond a subject, grade, dept, or site! Even beyond with social media. Twitter, as we all know, has uplifted educator. Make your own teams, as we have done here. So grateful for the people I've met this year and the inspiration they bring. #waledchat
A4: During a discussion about an incoming student. I was at a loss for words but the team jumped right in and was there for support and to strategize. So grateful for our team! #waledchat
You know... going to an escape room with my bf was the best experience. It was pitch black and we were in separate rooms and had to communicate to escape. It was an incredible exercise in patience and taught me how to listen before speaking. #Waledchat
A4: When I feel that I am not valued or that my ideas are “not right” I have a hard time opening up again. Unfortunate most of the time that I am at a loss for words is usually a negative thing. We need to change that. #waledchat
#waledchat A3 I teach PAP Algebra with another amazing teacher. Our meetings and plan of attack to get the students were they need to be are amazing. Love working with him. This year we both had over 80% of our students get commended on their state exams! #AlwaysBelieve
A4 - We had a meeting last year where two colleagues were really unprofessional towards each other. As team leader this gave me pause. Luckily cooler heads prevailed and time healed most of those wounds. It will always be about separating the problem from the person. #waledchat
A4- I made the mistake of underestimated a team and they came up with an amazing idea that I would never have thought of in a million years! , #waledchat
A4: I was at a loss for words when I witnessed one team member consistently put down another team member’s ideas. It left that person feeling very discouraged. We need to remember to lift each other up because we are in this journey together! #waledchat
A4: I have worked with teams where the people in the room can't even look at each other because of a lack of trust. I have seen great educators despair over teammates that won't pull their weight. In all cases, the individuals lost sight of the needs of their students #waledchat
A4: Collaboration can struggle if the attitude is that I don't have time to seek or brainstorm resources or strategies; just give me what I need. #waledchat
A5: Find your tribe. At work, it is usually helpful to sit and talk with @ToddRisser to help me see and think more clearly. Blessed by his friendship. #waledchat
A5: Listening and talking things over solve a lot of problems. Often times we don't know everything that is going on in ppl's lives that is affecting work and collaboration. It's important to be honest and straightforward w/ each other to avoid build up. #waledchat
A5: No matter what happens, I strive to demonstrate that I will always be there for them. I have learned to let things go and move forward, that is the only way to truly achieve your goals. I cannot control other people's actions but I AM in control of my reaction. #waledchat
A4 During a PD to set-up Scope and Sequence for the County, No system was in place to proceed, no leader was selected, no goals were established. It was painful, disruptive, and caused a lot of is.sues. #waledchat
A4: Worked collaboratively w/a group before moving to @simmonsknights1 full-time. Was the only outsider + the people on the team left me out of the discussion. I walked out feeling like it was a waste of time. Didn't stop me from moving over 2 mos. later. #waledchat
A5 We overcome difficult collaborations by using this question as the litmus test: Are we engaged in work that will help us achieve our collective vision? If not, we are to re-focus our collaborative efforts to achieve our stated goals. #waledchat
Years ago we had an all school collaboration meeting to come up with a plan for cell phones, hooded sweatshirts, and oversized backpacks (safety issue). We spent 2 hours talking in circles and came up with nothing. I got so frustrated I left the meeting. #waledchat
Incredible! You know when you think something is so obvious that it's kind of not worth mentioning because everyone surely has the same idea or opinion... yeah. That was how it felt! #waledchat
Way too many people care what I think.... weird. Too bad they can't read carefully or ask me to elaborate, lol. But that's what freedom of speech is about I guess (though not sure 1st amendment applies to teachers anymore). One's intent and impact may not match up #waledchat
A5: I just have to walk away and turn it off for a bit. Usually after a good night of sleep, I'm able to move on. I tend to get a bit loud and lose my filter if I don't just walk away and cool down. (Yes, really...I can get angry, lol @_on11) #waledchat
A4 When it was a dictatorship instead of a collaboration. Although, I have to admit, I was not at a loss for words. It's a strength...and weakness. #Waledchat
A5: With the project, I thanked them for the compliment on my slides and helped them add to theirs. In other scenarios, I've learned to step back and guide instead on jumping in front and directing...
#waledchat
A4 - I try to communicate with those involved and state what we will both/all do next time to make the collaboration more successful. Open lines of communication and assuming the best out of others will help overcome difficult collaborations. #waledchat
A5: When dealing with difficult people, I usually am frank. I tell them that they are free to choose their own approach. I offer my suggestions as options, but if they would rather do something else, it is America. #waledchat
A5: No matter what happens, I strive to demonstrate that I will always be there for them. I have learned to let things go and move forward, that is the only way to truly achieve your goals. I cannot control other people's actions but I AM in control of my reaction. #waledchat
A4: Watching a small team of my staff (from across disciplines) come together to plan for a new 6th grade opportunity - one of the highlights of my career, thus far. #waledchat
A4: One time years ago I was tasked to plan with the other 2 ELA teachers Every single time I proposed something I was met with"That sounds good but we've always done it like this"No matter how positive I tried to be I got nowhere.I changed grade-levels the next year. #waledchat
A5: I've struggled with some teachers not wanting to share responsibilities, which is frustrating! I always tried to demonstrate my abilities as a lead teacher while "just" being a special education co-teacher. #waledchat
A4 - I try to communicate with those involved and state what we will both/all do next time to make the collaboration more successful. Open lines of communication and assuming the best out of others will help overcome difficult collaborations. #waledchat
Hey #waledchat and #122edchat peeps, if you had fun tonight, come join us next Tuesday as we jam out together in the #champforkids chat! Let's get all three of our #PLN families 'NSYNC and ALL-4-ONE! Be sure to invite a NEW KID ON THE BLOCK to the show! 🎸🥁
It was an elective class with 6-8th graders, and we would meet for 45 mins, 4 days a week. The teacher artist would come in one day a week. The theatre wrote grants and worked with the community to fund the partnership. #waledchat
A5 Try to be open to others who think differently...when we are open, when we listen instead of talking, when we observe, we grow and get better. As long as other have the best interest of kids at heart then they can be on my team! #waledchat
A5: I cannot control how and what people think and do. I can only be myself and present myself in the way I do. I will continue to work toward building a team oriented mindset and hope it is shared amongst my teammates. #waledchat
A4) When teachers go beyond the call of duty to prepare dynamic lessons. I have had teachers to meet outside of work to prepare for the upcoming week.#waledchat
A5: make apologies as needed and keep moving forward. Keep trying to show kindness and grace. I know I’ve needed kindness and grace extended my way before too! #waledchat
A5: This year, I plan on standing up for my Ss more. Our collaboration should be S centered. We need to have a great collaboration to help our Ss succeed! #waledchat
A5 My team is sometimes resistant to new ideas. I share what I am going to do, and say that they are welcome to join in if they choose. I am more than willing to go it alone if necessary #waledchat
A6: I don't take it personally, and try to see things from the other peoples' perspective. However, I also make sure that my voice is heard. #waledchat
A4: we were in a staff meeting talking about the halloween parade schedule & i said i would like to do it in the morning = less stress. a veteran T said " if you stress about it obviously you are doing it wrong" way to shoot down a newer T. #waledchat
#waledchat A4:The most difficult collaborations have been when the goal was unclear. The arguing became more about the tiny details then the big idea.I think we need to remember that just like Ss,sometimes we need time to process info.before responding, then come back and refocus.
A4. Sitting in a meeting and seeing T come in unprepared, did not read anything for planning, just expected to wing it all the way throughout! Can't contribute ideas, ask questions, spend more time filling in the blanks! #waledchat
A4:
I’ve been at a loss for words when in collaborative group with some strong teachers who do not practicewhat they preach and take over, interrupt, don’t listen, etc. I usually step back to keep from getting frustrated as much. #waledchat
A5: I tell the teams I work with that I am not neutral. My focus is on the students and our vision. I will take nobody's side. I keep hammering away with new questions and different approaches. You have to experiment. You won't fix the problem in a day. Be patient. #waledchat
A5 Does the work align with the vision/mission? Does the work repreent what's best for kids? If the answer is no, move on. If the Answer is Yes, make a list of affirmatives for the position you don't support. Look at it from all sides, agree to compromise. Set limits! #waledchat
A5: Unfortunately, I have been faced with many difficult collaborations (lots of different personalities). But, I will always do my best to be positive and open-minded when working with my team! #waledchat
#waledchat A2 When Trs start turning their focus away from the kids that is when the group goes down hill. STAY FOCUSED during meetings. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE KIDS! Not your personal lives.
When I addressed that, I got the "your teammates should have told you about it." That was the biggest slap in the face of myself and my team. #waledchat
A5~ continue to model professionalism, open mind & engage in authentic conversations that put kids first~ and also not shy away from difficult conversations that have to happen for the betterment of all #waledchat
Totally agree...I make my own way, created a new #PLN because things must get done. It's not fair to kids to slack off and take short cuts. Twitter has been a sweet bonus in this area. #waledchat
A5. #waledchat I have adopted a philosophy "Conflict is an opportunity to build relationships. Instead of burning the bridge, use it as a bridge to understanding & compassion." Having the foundation of trusting relationships helps foster open communication & reduce conflict.
I love the idea of having an overall main focus and setting the details to the tiny details to the side. You and I think better that way though bc we are big picture people. We have to find a happy medium for the detail oriented people! #waledchat
Thank you for joining @khoggardGRT & me this evening. Thank you also to @MrPStrunk for allowing us to take the "stage" & share our love for HSM. Don't forget to follow the amazing #waledchat educators . . ."this may be the start of something new."
