Then they can share it with you via email and I have put it on our class weebly for parents to see
User friendly app
I show my S the basics and his job was to find out more! He did! Now he teaches others.
A4: I have found that my kids are much better at navigating iPads than I am. They love to 'teach' me.
A4: Don't forget to teach how to use the "native" apps such as camera and notepad - super powerful tools there!
We also ❤️ using smashed in to collaboratively compare texts.
A4: Let them try on their own / teach each other. I love when they find an iPad buddy and ask questions!
Would love to hear more. Haven’t heard of before. We’re doing Flat Stanley too.
AGREE!! :) https://t.co/8qefZjJhZb
A4- Give them the basics when showing new app- let them self discover as they work! Amazing what they will learn on their own!
Absolutely- my kids love noticing the "mountains w/ the sun" for inserting pics on multiple apps! https://t.co/kx98SMxYnP
A4 take time at the beginning. Once they learn basics they discover most apps are alike.
A4 I'm all about rules and expectations. Taking time at the beginning of the year to review expectations of devices
A4 intro specific expectations & intro apps slowly use reflector on sboard to show Ss how to use each app, never have any issues
A4 I like to incorporate tech into our Daily 5 rotations. Work on writing using blogs, listen to reading on Kindle, etc.
Great idea! I had a University and my students were so excited to "graduate" and blog on their own.
Love when students can become the teacher!
this looks like a great one! Thanks for sharing!!
what kind of things do you go over with Ss during the bootcamp? Do you have a list you go by?
SO fun! Glad to hear someone else is still on KidBlog and not Seesaw!
A4 my tip is let S's drive the learning and teach others as they go. Friday I asked S's to be app experts https://t.co/sQxsxvPoZw
We brought in last summer to kick off our year-long work around iPads. Awesome!
Yes, we do iPad ninja training first days of school and they have to get their ipad license to use them
A4 Make the wallpaper on iPads a number so you can tell the difference between them I have only 3 iPads https://t.co/d6BEwElmO0
A4: Teach care, digital citizenship, how to&give time to "play" bit so can feel them out.Choose a few that are creatively versatile.
A4: I like to always have other support in the room, like our tech coaches, when trying new apps and such!
Q5 coming up in a minute!
Great idea of graduating! Kids would have loved it! We’re kidblogging too! :)
I'm really going to try. We have Conferences that night.
I teach 4th now but planning on continuing to use it with 1st next year! I love !!
A4: been using to post story problems for Ss to answer, different endings to books, and retelling- collaboration
If you have 1:1 iPads- have Ss take a selfie for their background image. Gives ownership and easy to find. https://t.co/26UVcnTNwf
A4 Make the wallpaper on iPads a number so you can tell the difference between them I have only 3 iPads https://t.co/d6BEwElmO0
I would love to know more about the sight word videos.
Camera is usually my first one.
Love this! On my list for next year! Thanks for sharing!
I love what did with her class with this - great way to own the learning and share their thinking!
I also have to show them how to reconnect to our school wifi when it disconnects:(
She is incredible. I've learned so much from her.
I have expanded my Daily 5 to D6 to allow for a choice for another center! Ss needed more time to blog or share!
My students my a "How To" ibook using !
A5: LOVE 4 kids. So easy to use and has so many uses for showing what you know.
That is such a great idea!

Awesome!! That's so cool!!
A5: , Storykit, Screenchomp,
I feel like I go in spurts, but yes, another great one!
agree with using more. Students love it!
Last yr I made a sight word slide show like that. If you didn't know the word u could tap the pic & S said the word.
Explain Everything is another we are on all the time!
Kristin had us get the following apps: Explain Everything, Tellagami, Drawing Pad, Book creator, Screenchomp
A5: Started w/ camera this yr & this has saved a lot of time
I just downloaded BookCreator! Can't wait to try it!

Has anyone used the Seesaw blog?? I haven't but definitely want to give it a try!
A5: I love Google Draw! It is so Ss friendly and it students can create anything! In November we wrote about turkeys then made them!
Agreed. She’s amazing at sharing and helping others learn. I’ve asked her 1001 Q’s through the years. ;)
A5:, , iMovie, but we're really only just getting started. There's a lot more out there!
A5- Drawing Pad is a fave of my class too. Great one to use when showing mental images. They love the variety of tools.
Oh, yes, Drawing Pad is great!
Can you get that as an iPad app??
Thx for new people to follow...including you!
I created mine and uploaded four items the other day. I want to do more with it!
Students love using Tellagami! https://t.co/ve1yxVYP8P
Kristin had us get the following apps: Explain Everything, Tellagami, Drawing Pad, Book creator, Screenchomp
I do this to label all of mine too. Storage slots are labeled with that number & cords so charging is easy. https://t.co/rLOceyEeBO
A4 Make the wallpaper on iPads a number so you can tell the difference between them I have only 3 iPads https://t.co/d6BEwElmO0

Yes, connected to a class in England.
Time is flying by!!! Q6 is on the way!

I love giving my students choice with these apps - they can pick which one to use!
Yes mine are on and connected to 3 other classes. It's awesome & they ❤it️. 1stgradepenguin https://t.co/uns3HK0W9d
Has anyone used the Seesaw blog?? I haven't but definitely want to give it a try!
I'll find my info after chat tonight.
A6 - Is there a particular website that has a list of apps to use on the IPAD that you've found helpful?
A6: biggest frustration, Android apps, diff from ipad. I"m always searching for comparable apps
A6 I would love to have more iPads. Even just a few, bc 1 is not enough!Maybe I should look into .
I am so far behind tonight. We should have made a google doc. The struggle is real (sigh).
Not positive on that! We have Chromebooks.
my kids get excited when I tell them we're connected to another classroom .. they go on a few times a week!
A6: Would love more iPads. Only one dedicated to my room makes it difficult to do everything I would like to do!
I hear SO many success stories with it!
So incredible to see what others are able to do. I am part of this incredible book club.but coding too? WOW https://t.co/Y5t3lT5a9H
Agree 100%!! In addition to time, just not enough time in the day but that is another issue :) https://t.co/OZpdDuVcua
A6 Keeping them charged! 😜
We have also had problems with some apps freezing while Ss are working on a project. Anyone else experience this?
. LOL if only there was an easy solution for that one!
Oh okay...I'll have to look into it!
Yes! I agree - I'd love to brainstorm and share my finds with you.
Have you heard about the new iOS?
Have you thought about doing a Donors Choose project to get an add'l 1 or 2?
Me too! Absolutely love it! Use the comic book template to retell stories as a Flow Map during Lit Bingo! https://t.co/Cxk8YRlrvx
A5: My Ss have been obssed with this year - SO many possibilities for every subject within one app!
why not, right? I'm going to combine also!!
my "owl stars" are responsible for checking the battery % on our ipads and plugging any in at the end of the day.
A6: I wish I had more! Stationing works but it's difficult at times too.
A6 are there any webinars that shows the best of iPad use in lower elementary? I want to use things like seesaw and epic books.
A6: My wish would be to have more room in my classroom so that our iPads could stay out all day. Getting in/our of cart gets old!
Another tip to AVOID a frustration- teach your kids how to use multitasking gestures so your home buttons don't wear out!
Agreed it’s tricky. I got 3 in March this yr, before that needed to sign out ones that were shared with the school
I'll definitely be there for that!
We use it during our math centers frequently.
Yes! I teach the five finger close the first week! https://t.co/h7OpY1Fwcs
Another tip to AVOID a frustration- teach your kids how to use multitasking gestures so your home buttons don't wear out!
Q6: we have two plug in stations in our room (power bars with usb ports) that can charge 8 iPads at a time
Oh. Hadn’t thought of that before. Can it wear out easily? Our shared school ones seem okay so far.
A6 wish there were edcamps just for first grade teachers.
OH I forgot! Adding to my earlier answer, I love too! Can't believe I forgot that.
Wouldn't that be awesome?!
Why don't we do a virtual edcamp around tech/iPads in the 1st grade classroom?
I used to struggle with that. Now we keep them in our book baskets with their leveled readers and library books!
Very frustrating- Make sure to do hard shut down every once in awhile (power button and home buttone til apple appears)
have you tried I love it and it aligns to our math curriculum.
YES!! But then we have Sunday nights to focus on our grade. It’s good to learn from all grades too.
Awesome idea! Thanks for sharing!
A6:sharing, when I want them all to do something as an assignment, they can't, just not enough of them, district red tape for apps
How about a virtual one. We could make that happen
Great idea! I could give that a try, thanks!
Yes! Just taught my students this recently. Power down fixes so much.
I did look at it. Is it free?
Once multitasking is turned on in settings- Ss use 5 fingers 2 close out app- open hand and pinch in
Last question coming up in a minute!
I love having Ss explain too. We use for this daily.
Love it! I am so excited to try this app! Thanks for sharing!
I also wish I had some IPADS just for my room. We share with the school. Very time consuming, finding them, returning them, etc.
I have one at home that has issues and 2 of mine at school do too. Started after 3 yrs or so
I would love that if we could do that maybe this summer....that would be so cool.
We aren't connecting...yet but we will be...soon!
We have talked about meet up during summer many times https://t.co/VFALeG1pq8
A6 wish there were edcamps just for first grade teachers.
Thanks for a great chat! Can't wait to research a bunch new apps!
Try it! One teacher in my building just was funded over $12,000 for class furniture. It's worth a try!
A6- Another tip- keep a charging station accessible where kids can be plugged in but can still work while charging
Love ! We use it at least once a day!
In our last few minutes, a bit of housekeeping is in order-No next week due to Easter Sunday.
Q7: We use our class Twitter account to connect w/ 1st grade friends, authors, experts, apps, and BEYOND! SO many possibilities!
A7:I use my Mac or Chromebooks for most of our collaborating beyond the classroom.
Yes. My Ss love to see other classes. I'm not too good at keeping up with it but I try.
A7: and testing out with various classrooms
summer meet ups! Wouldn't that be fun and oh so valuable.
We love playing mystery number Skype!
Would love to see pics of different charging stations for only a few iPads. We have 3.
A7: Epic collaboration with Skype
Wow! I may just try for 2 iPads.
Has anyone used Sock puppet? I love that app.
I bought plastic mailbox cubbies from amazon, drilled holes in back and they all have a place to charge https://t.co/vyCnmnD8Al
A6- Another tip- keep a charging station accessible where kids can be plugged in but can still work while charging
When I only have a few I used a dish rack!
Got to sneak out a bit early! Thanks for the chat tonight!Great discussion and ?sEnjoy the week everyone!
Thanks for a great chat tonight! Happy Easter to you all, enjoy your spring breaks!
We do too! We'll have to connect sometime!
I missed tonight's chat 😁 will there be anywhere to read about it?
We use , and to chat w/ other classrooms, experts and friends around the world
Ohhh… I wanted to join in on that, but we just got busy. Can you remind me of the link?
Yes! We just used it to create retellings for chapters in
My school is hosting on October 29th!
A7- We do Monthly Padlet/Epic book conversations. See post here for info. LOve to have you join us! https://t.co/dxiFwyI571
Oh, I’ve seen that before! Didn’t think about it for just 3. But it would work well. Thanks!
A7 My thanks to all of you! I continue to learn so much from .This is what connected learning is all about! Model what you teach!
A7: blogs w codes & hangouts.
A6- Classroom twitter acct is great to connect out and in!
A7:We mainly use our smart board and connect as a whole class through Twitter and Skype so far.
So many possibilities with that!
Yes I can imagine! That's what other classes in my building do too. Mine keep them in their desks all day.
A6- Skype/GHO for Mystery number/mystery location. Easy way to connect at a 1st grade level
Thanks for a great chat everyone! So fun to learn about new tech.
Been great ! Moving to 1st is exciting but scary. Awesome you're a great PLN. Will also be great to have in my building!
. Can you tell us about your Read to Someone buddies in FL?
Glad I found this chat. Joined to late to be useful, but will return next week :)
We have a super small room and use flexible seating - so no desks! They would be nice for that though!
A7 love the collaborative book club love the weekly math talk padlets and blogs.
