Good evening, #EduAR friends! Tonight is a hashtag collision trifecta! We are joining forces with #K12ArtChat to discuss the power of #JoyfulLeaders! We welcome you to use the 2 chat hashtags, #EduAR and K12ArtChat. If you want to tack on #JoyfulLeaders, that is great too!
I'm Kris and I teach PreK i KS
Our granddaughter radiates joy! She was adopted from an orphanage in Uganda. She's 11 now. This is the pic from when our daughter and son-in-law first met her! #eduAR
Howdy's #eduAR and #K12ArtChat from Barbara, school counselor and author of What's Under Your Cape? Life brings me joy but only when I'm practicing #mindfulness and remembering to unwrap the present. Connections, relationships, friendships, ALL joy-makers!
My EduSistas @nortnik and @Lindsey_Bohler and I had this dream of Connecting for Kids just a little over a year go...and #EduAR was born! We are now one year old and going strong! So excited to collaborate with @Artguy76 and #K12ArtChat tonight.
#K12ArtChat#EduAR this Laura #artsed Admin from Texas and the other half of @Artguy76 our three kids bring me joy with their big hearts, silliness and creativity
I forgot my pic of what brings me joy... these two, my pups, and when kids get the biggest grin on their faces when they achieve something they thought impossible! #K12ArtChat#EduAR#JoyfulLeaders

I think that consistency is what makes joy seem genuine. Consistency is the hardest part. One has to be committed to joyfulness to be consistent. #JoyfulLeaders#eduAR
A1 someone that smiles and promotes joy and happiness with the students and those around them. Works hard to build positive relationships in the classroom. #K12ArtChat#EduAR

A1b - A joyful leader loves children and helping adults. They seek to understand and inspire people. They truly have the best interests of students in mind. #EduAR
A2: Most of the time I am happy, laughing, and showing joy in teaching my sweet students. That being said, I do have my down days and rely on others to bring me up. #JoyfulLeaders#EduAR
A2: They smile, they are warm, caring, they welcome others ideas and invite collaboration/partnerships - they look to grow and improve the community #K12ArtChat#EduAR
A1: A #JoyfulLeaders looks like @PrincipalCates. We work at an #alted site & see some really tough things. She cooks delicious banana bread & smiles. She has an open door for any members of the school community. She never forgets her focus, we’re there for the kids. #EduAR
A1: A joyful leader is someone who brings the positive perspective, the drive to do what is best for kids, the passion for their kids and families...every day! Even on the hard days! #EduAR
A2 - I promise to always be happy, positve and upbeat. Challenge those around me to bring their best to the classroom and not settle for just okay. Focus on making students smile, laugh and be happy. #EduAR
A2: In my classroom, we laugh, dance, & spread lots of kindness!! I focus on celebrating Ss & encourage them to lift each other up!! I make sure my kids know I love them & want the best for them! #EduAR
A2) how about joyful leadership for when you take meetings with vendors like me, always appreciated and I’m looking to educate Arkansas about @SAFARIMontage, Corey here tweeting from warm St Pete, FL #eduar
A2 - I promise to always be happy, positve and upbeat. Challenge those around me to bring their best to the classroom and not settle for just okay. Focus on making students smile, laugh and be happy. #EduAR
Joy in learning requires some ownership on the part of the learner. This is true for Ss and Ts. Leaders must provide opportunities for both to create an environment that is conducive to learning #EduAr
A1:Joyful Leaders have an appreciation for who they are & what they have- the same for who they serve. They have an uncanny ability to live in the now & bring the best of themselves & encourage the best in others. #JoyfulLeaders#EduAR#K12ArtChat
A2, I try not to be the positive light & find the good in the situation. When my people (any age) struggle, I know any simple gesture can turn their day around. It can be a kind word, a hug, or passing out car/bus notes. #eduar#K12ArtChat
A2 Focus on positive and encouragement the best. Have high expectations, but also be real... maybe add a little sarcasm here and there😜! #K12ArtChat#EduAR#JoyfulLeaders
A2: I look for ways to support my fellow teachers and my kids. I do this through providing PD for our building and district. Having an open classroom where people are welcome to come and #observeme! #EduAR
Q3: A leadership position is a difficult one. They have lots of negative forces to overcome. Finding a balance is crucial. How do you continue to stay joyful in a leadership role? #K12ArtChat#EduAR
YES! I have a place that I stand in my school @CentralCabotpK4 where I can see all kids--bus riders and car riders. I can wave, say good morning, hug, and give high 5s! #EduAR#K12ArtChat#JoyfulLeaders
A2: When I get out of my car each morning, it’s my mission to #betheone for every S. No matter what is on my mind, they are my sole focus. Every S thinks they are my favorite, because I love them all & show them in my words & actions. #JoyfulLeaders#alted#EduAR
I can't believe the difference joyful music is making for my Ss. They are sending me their fav tunes. I check the lyrics & make a big deal of who suggested each one when I play it. I turn it off after the bell rings so we can think, but the vibes are still holding them up. #EduAR
A2 I strive to live my #oneword and be a beacon of light to my community, being very careful not to enter into any negativity but spread the positive. It’s a constant battle but it’s all about deciding to choose joy every day! #EduAR
A2: I bring music into the hallways and work to put a song onto their hearts. Life can play in a minor key for today's superheroes; #joyfulleaders have an amazing opportunity to change the dissonance in their lives one note, one hug at a time. #eduAR#K12ArtChat#ukulele
These answers are all about making lives better. Why do we seem to make things so complicated, when they are so easy to understand? Start with relationships that are meaningful. The rest follows. #EduAR
A3: As an admin I know this to be so true some days feel harsh, it's important to keep focus. WHY!? KIDS!!! EDUCATION changes the world! ART changes perspective - remember your WHY! #K12ArtChat#EduAR
I love to collaborate with teachers and share my new love of incorporating technology in my room. I try my best to bring excitment and my love of art to my Ss. #EduAR#K12ArtChat
YES! I have a place that I stand in my school @CentralCabotpK4 where I can see all kids--bus riders and car riders. I can wave, say good morning, hug, and give high 5s! #EduAR#K12ArtChat#JoyfulLeaders
A2 I try hard for my students to feel comfortable when they are with me in the classroom. Many of my students comment about how they like it because I am always smiling and they tell me that it makes them happy. This makes me happy to know I made them happy. #K12ArtChat#EduAR
Q3: I surround myself with positive people. It is amazing what people/students can do when they feel supported and encouraged. We have to provide that balance for kids too! #EduAR
A3: Some days it can so difficult to keep your joy, and not lose it to negativity, adversity, or challenges. Going back to our WHY, reflecting on what is going right, and seeking encouragement from #JoyfulLeaders...that is my action plan! #EduAR#K12ArtChat
A3: As a teacher leader, I look for ways to build team morale and collaboration. Last month, I hosted a team BBQ potluck to kick off spring break. This month, I’m planning some take-home goodies for Ts on my hall. A little effort goes a long way. #edchat#EduAR
A3- I try to find people who will be realistic without being negative so I can keep perspective. A good upbeat song always helps restore some balance too. #K12ArtChat#eduAR
YES! I have a place that I stand in my school @CentralCabotpK4 where I can see all kids--bus riders and car riders. I can wave, say good morning, hug, and give high 5s! #EduAR#K12ArtChat#JoyfulLeaders
Q3: I surround myself with positive people. It is amazing what people/students can do when they feel supported and encouraged. We have to provide that balance for kids too! #EduAR
A3: I make it a point to sit at different tables & just let them talk abt different topics. Get to hear what is in their worlds! & Make art along side them. can’t beat it! #K12ArtChat#EduAR
A3 - Key to bring joyful! Surround yourself with positive, kind and like minded people. I spend my day with awesome kids and most adults who want to make a difference. Avoid those who bring negative energy. #eduAR
#A2 I strive to live my #oneword and be a beacon of light to my community, being very careful not to enter into any negativity but spread the positive. It can be a battle but it’s all about deciding to choose joy every day! #EduAR

A3 keep the negative contained behind closed doors! Balance your downs by making the choice to get out and be your best for others. I also run and addicted to chocolate #EduAR
A3, this leadership gig is tough!!! I find myself repeating "but I'm the art teacher". However, I also find myself wanting my peers to grow & take charge of their content area. #eduar
A3: I keep my focus on my Ss!! Those 18 kids deserve the BEST from me each & every day!! When things get tough, I take a moment to just connect with them! Either we turn on the music & dance, we sit & chat, or we do lunch bunch! It’s about being w/ them! #EduAR#K12ArtChat
A3:The happiest leaders aren't necessarily focused on success or failure but live by a different perspective--and that outlook is helping others achieve extraordinary things. #JoyfulLeaders#EduAR#K12ArtChat
To maintain my own energy, I needed a supportive climate, generated by mentors & colleagues & that I had to take the lead in creating it instead of being a Lone Ranger. #EduAr
A4 - Watch body language. Watch when teachers enter and leave. Chat with students and trusted colleagues about what is going well, and what needs some fixing. #eduAR
A4: If you're truly connected to your staff, you'll notice the temperature change. I can tell when my colleagues are having a tough day. #eduAR#JoyfulLeaders
In reply to
@bethhill2829, @nortnik, @Lindsey_Bohler, @Artguy76
A4: It makes a huge difference when we take the time to know our people. We can then know when someone might need an encouraging word, a pat on the back, a challenge, or just an ear to listen. #JoyfulLeaders#EduAR#K12ArtChat
A3 ....happy hour.... just kidding 🤪 I try to enjoy moments at home to get away from bad days and I love how so many of you said seek the why... #K12ArtChat#EduAR#JoyfulLeaders
A4: When you 'feel' like the temperature of the culture is taking a negative turn- Become a forceful shift! Mindfully redirect the culture back to the positive with little encouragements. A thoughtful note, a kind word, an offer to help, or just a listening ear. #EduAR
A4) I can relate to this seeing how climates change in districts we partner in, you can tell a lot about the temperature of the culture from twitter and #edchats like this #eduAR
A3: Even though I have my M. Ed. & admin credential I choose to stay in the classroom because everyday I literally look forward to going to work. I’m not sure I can match that in a formalized leadership position. I’m working to stay balanced by not trying to fix every prob #EduAR

A4: By asking through formal or informal survey, by walking through and checking class out, by shaking hands to get an emotional barometer, by expressing gratitude, by targeting morale & lifting spirits, just because, by planning intentional fun! #eduAR#K12ArtChat#JoyfulLeaders
A4: Check in- but it can't happen without TRUST! Open conversations and coaching conversations - you have to have relationships and value them #K12ArtChat#EduAr
A4, we're experiencing a big change at my school. For my Specialty group, we've been able to have several small meetings to ensure we're all on the same page with things. We group text concerns or questions, & they know they can drop by anytime. #eduar
Sorry everyone, got to get some rest. On a D.C. trip tomorrow with some amazing young people. Must be positive and passionate. Have a great night. #EduAR
A4: Get honest feedback from Ts & Ss. Sit in classrooms. Sit in common spaces like lunchrooms & gyms & stand in car rider lines. Don’t expect everyone to come to you. The best, most joyful leaders seek out others to hear their stories & use that information to make change. #EduAR
A4 You make an effort to reach across the lines, be in the thick of things, let your joy penetrate the dark spaces and draw out the negativity! You’ve got to be out there! #EduAR

Q1: A joyful leader is someone who shares successes and learns from failures with their staff and students.. makes everyone feel like they belong in the building.. has a positive and infectious attitude #k12artchat#EduAR
A5: It's all in the delivery! We have to remember that if we want people to understand our passion we have to be transparent about the why without turning them away because of our delivery! #EduAR
A4: Reach out to your #pln on campus & on Twitter. Then do your best to be of service. Bring your best attitude each day, keep the Ss your focus. Also, food - food makes people happy & creates relationships. #EduAR
I couldn't agree MORE! We have 47 elementary art teachers and they teacher every single elementary child in the district (24,000) ! What better joyful leaders! #pisdcreatesart#K12ArtChat#EduAR
Art educators need to be joyful leaders because the arts are perhaps the most important thing we teach. The Arts helps us and students to explore, comprehend and communicate what it means to be human. What could be more important than that? #K12ArtChat
Q2: I never take myself too seriously. I laugh a lot with my students, especially when I am feeling stressed out. I take a lot of pride in the work my students do and the efforts they put forward and I try to be an example of empathy, humor, and passion always.
#k12artchat#EduAR
Very true. Sometimes people can appear to be naysayers, but may lack the experience of a situation, or sometimes we may lack it! Discourse can be disagreeable and still be professional...and both sides can learn! #K12ArtChat#EduAR#JoyfuLeaders
A5: It's all in the delivery! We have to remember that if we want people to understand our passion we have to be transparent about the why without turning them away because of our delivery! #EduAR

A5: Be willing to have open-minded conversations with those who don’t agree. Start with an open heart and ears willing to listen. Don’t run from conflict but lean into it. At the end of the day, follow the path truest for you and let the rest fall away. #EduAR
A5 Can I just say how grateful I am to have found so many passionate, like minded educators on Twitter who feed my soul! Thank you for inspiring me so much that I hardly notice the nay sayers! #EduAR
A5: I haven’t had to deal with that yet, I have cultivated positive interactions on Twitter. I am sure that time will come and I will try to acknowledge their perspective while acknowledging mine. #EduAR
We are so much better together! I don't even have a real office anymore. I have a desk in our conference room that stays covered with papers, my calendar, and books, along with a phone when I can use when I need to make calls. Everything else is in my backpack! #EduAR#K12ArtChat
A5, I try to see their side before responding. If I can offer anything to clear up the confusion, I'll comment & try to get it all cleared up. Some times you just have to scroll past it! #eduar#K12ArtChat
A6: Keep focused! We start to focus on the summer break just like kids do. Ramp up the lessons with engaging options, keep the transitions crisp, and stick to your routines. Kids need that consistency and so do we! #EduAR
A6: Keep learning at the center. Don’t forsake creativity or inquiry or excitement for test prep. Keeping our Ss engaged will take us where we need to go. #EduAR
You are so right! Imagine if every educator took some time each week to participate in an Ed Twitter Chat...then shared information from it with their colleagues... #EduAR#K12ArtChat#JoyfulLeaders
A5: It's all in the delivery! We have to remember that if we want people to understand our passion we have to be transparent about the why without turning them away because of our delivery! #EduAR
A6: We do not count down. I don't talk about it. My sweet kiddos don't need me adding to their stress. My kids thrive in my structured classroom environment. Most of them will not have that structure over the summer and that's scary for them! #eduAR#JoyfulLeaders

Q6: Working in a continuation high school, the final quarter of Spring can be stressful. When one of us is having a moment of doubt or anxiety, the other rally around us. This is true of Ts, SS, & classified. #alted#powellpride#EduAR
A2: this year I am also flooding the school hallways, cafeteria, library, walls, windows with artwork. If it fits, I sticks. I want the students to show off the program and all their hard work. #K12ArtChat#eduAR

Right now we've got partridge eggs that are about to hatch and caterpillars ready to build cocoons! Next week, we're planting and growing! #JoyfulLeaders#eduAR
A6, seriously, be there to listen & offer words of encouragement. Brainstorm activities that might be fun & educational for the students. After all, they're tired too. #eduar#K12ArtChat
Such a blessing and an honor to collaborate with #K12ArtChat tonight! The convo is full of #JoyfulLeaders, so make sure you add to your PLN this evening! #EduAR
The arts have 2 b seen as a means to teach comprehension/meaning-making &communication. They have to be seen as a means to foster connections between content & building community. Content has to be used to build culture-Developing culture is what being human is about. #k12artchat

A5:Clearly listen-ask questions from values & not fear. Reminder to others that our work w/ tchrs & ss is precious, and we are not going to entertain anyone who tries to dump toxic waste on that goals.#JoyfulLeaders#EduAR#K12ArtChat
A3: After two years with my school I have found which teachers enrich my day and personal feelings about teaching.. and which ones I'd rather take a break from sitting with/talking to. I often go back to this article and send it out: https://t.co/QNquVVuiiX#k12artchat#eduAR
Or something equivalent. I don't think everyone should have to fall in love with the same learning platform. But I'd like to see an equal degree of enthusiasm and commitment to that learning. #PLN#EduAr#K12ArtChat

A6: This has been a hard semester for me. I'm the mom of a senior. My co-worker saw my emotional struggle this week. A little gift and the sweetest card placed in my chair while I was out at recess helped me rally through the day! #EduAR#CEtribe

The highest compliment we can pay anybody in any field is that they are an artist. Yet, are educational focus is rarely on creating artists in any field. The arts aren’t about beauty they are about meaning. #k12arteducation
We are going to have a lot of fun next week and yes the magic 8 ball will be a part of the chat - what do you predict the future of education will be? #EduAR#K12ArtChat#oklaed#txed#txeduchat
