this is a great one for sure
Hi Dan in Los alamitos, h.s. science teacher, edtech tosa, and super geek/foodie
A1: Definitely collect open-ended feedback. Paragraph style text boxes allow for longer responses. https://t.co/Tczrjjwpsa
anytime I can fit in a Bill Nye reference I will
Ooh I remember that one! Such an awesome athlete! Good call!
Kelsey here. TOSA from Solana Beach. A little late to the party!
A1: I always look at body language, verbal, and we use Google Forms after professional learning events.
A1: I have a rating scale, would they recommend it and open ended. I want to know what they really think!
Hi Liza! Great to have you with us tonight!
Better late! Welcome to the chat!
I do a lot of PD, so I'm always gathering some kind of feedback- verbal or via Google Form eval https://t.co/BZfMOYzhf5
so glad to see one of my Solana Beach friends!
A1: This chat is timely 4 me cuz, I don't really. Anecdotal feedback from participants is it so far. Ready to step up my game.
A1: I gather feedback through a Google Form; there're always a few likert scale Qs, some specific short resp Qs, & an open resp Q.
A1: We get feedback every chance we get, it is even in our email signature! our Ts R still new to the concept but we do our best
Kara from Kennewick, WA, joining for the 1st time in a LONG time! Miss my friends! Dean, K-5
A1 I like digital feedback where I can gather, organize and respond quickly! Been using discussion on Teaching Channel TEAMS
A1: I try to gather feedback via a few Google Forms I have created ea. time I coach or present a training(Inst. Tech Coach).
A1: Gather feedback often and ongoing! Forms are great, but conversational is the best. Gotta ask peeps!
Hey Nick. Great to see you again.
Kinda have 2 go with these. Rocky SS CC too long of a day...may just be lurking tonight Don't know if I… https://t.co/Qc2nUtQy7x
Hello, Rick Inst Tech Coach in Chicagoland, MJ on the Box
A1) Try to have a balance of quantitative and qualitative. Numbers for growth, comments for specifics/depth
Hi Kara! Glad to see you here.
A1: middle of lessons, middle of term, end of year; check in regularly with quiet students
Hi Leslie. Great box cover. Great profile picture too.
A1: Early and often. Survey, conversation, formative assessment, etc.
A1: I definitely like open ended feedback. It brings up ideas I never would have thought of.
DEBBIE!!! I've been missing you, too!!
Guess what I’m having for dinner. :)
No class tonight so I get to chat with you guys!!
Oh, I have done the before survey. To get a feel for where participants are coming into the training.
A needs assessment is always a good thing to plan effective PD
A1: Fresh out of the classroom, I remember gathering it from Ss best. I think as often as possible and in any form.
A1: Comparable data! By asking the same questions over a period of time, I can look for trends - especially when working w Ts
We should Skype again soon. Just for the fun of it!
Kara!! We haven't heard you on Voxer in ages!
Shea Smith, EdTech TOSA for 5 elementary schools in . Stoked to be back on Monday night prime-time !
A1: I gather feedback mostly from conversations. I need to be better about formal feedback.
Never too late to join in on the party. Welcome Kelsey
I did that at the beginning of the school year to gauge where Ts were (beginning, middle, advanced)
Definitely love your mention of body language. Definitely an important form of feedback!
OOOOO! Great idea with the email signature! Stealing that one!
Got that one from . Its a simple bit.ly to my gform
It's a lot of "how you doing" and "we good so far?" kind of questions, real simple but effective
A1: I think sometimes the best feedback you can get is walking around the room and just listening
I think triangulation is key, but conversational is great!
I definitely appreciate the question of whether participants would recommend session to others
In TweetDeck? I only ever do that badly!
and watch for those glazed eyes
agreed, body language can be so telling.
I do ask for verbal. Or the Thumbs up, or down kind of general. I want to do more structured feedback tho.
A1: I've been using the same Google Form for eval for over a year and it's interesting to look back...
A1: I think sometimes the best feedback you can get is walking around the room and just listening
A1: I get conflicted between wanting feedback and asking Ts to do one more thing. I try to draw on nonverbals, etc.
It's kind of all feedback all the time
I think it is good to get feedback on the spot, I gotta start trying that one.
A1: so much easier to get feedback if less stand & deliver and more interaction. stopwatch your preso & get data
I get that, especially at the end of a session that has already borders on going over
I agree ! Eyes & Ears! https://t.co/YJGX3Gq99Q
A1: I think sometimes the best feedback you can get is walking around the room and just listening
A little of everything is good!
I don't have the stamina tonight. a little red wine + binge watch...is it Friday yet?
At tonight's PD, I did a temp-taking. Thumbs up, thumbs down, thumbs sideways. Really helped me.
A1: I try to gather feedback as much as possible. Growth mindset
That’s something I do too. Always good to provide opportunities for ppl to give feedback any and every time possible
A1: Feedback, I'm reading a FAB book by called . He discusses feedback. Such great info
A1 feedback from Ss & Ts w/ numeric scores & short response to gather both constructive criticism & determine what works/supports
That's exactly what I have done to find out if they like the format. Overwhelmingly thumbs up.
I think those are good, i like optional feedback because sometimes it provides a good 3rd point
Hey Kara! Great to see you again. When does nw start up again?
Simple yet very effective!
When it's my own people, I send the form link at the end of the session so it's waiting in their inbox.
For me Twitter is actually a great source though informal
Always good to go paperless. Love all the analytics of digital feedback systems too
Me too. and theyre still kind of captive,
Thanks I will have to check it out! https://t.co/SoeZsKFRwh
A1: Feedback, I'm reading a FAB book by called . He discusses feedback. Such great info
Feedback is the key to growth. Real data is essential, not "fluff" sometimes it's hard to hear...but a must!!
And for us: ambassador calls & school visits
A1 (I know, 3rd answer here)- the Q&A on Google Slides is great!
i like the rating and open response for sure!
One of my go to also for feedback
but the data is limited to quantitative. I like the mix of that and talk to build Relationships.
Is it Zero period?.....here Mr. Winings
I agree Joe, I like to mix in numeric ratings to give fast actionable data, and the open ended to expand
Absolutely. Effective monitoring is getting out from behind the desk. Make everywhere the "front of the room”
A2: Google Forms is the go to, but is great for PD presentations, quick emails, and verbal Q & A https://t.co/6YVxlYB3m9
Hi, folks, new to this chat and starting a little late. Excited for the conversation!
A2: google forms and some paper. Try all ways tho, u never know what ppl prefer
A2a: I always use a Google form. Might be someone’s first time on one, plus the analytics you can get out of it, esp w/ Explore.
Yes! Love this feature too 👍 https://t.co/P2ZxRSsBgc
A1 (I know, 3rd answer here)- the Q&A on Google Slides is great!
Yes. Definitely. Having paragraph text boxes helps but f2f is always good
A2- always Google Forms, but we accompany with we need your support discussion.
A2: Guilt tripping works. I tell them if I don't get feedback, I can't do any more PD. It's true. https://t.co/kHlbtMDQTx
I generally go to the open responses first when looking at feedback.
I'm still a little timid to try. How does the audience react? Do they participate?
using a tool to collect data and get a hook to the next training. NICE!
get at them at very angle...be sneaky
A2c: No incentives; have strong opinions about In/extrinsic motivation. Bribes =/= genuine results, on feedback or anything else.
A2: Lately I have been using Microsoft Forms and have attached the feedback survey to my email signature. https://t.co/TmpqSitKZw
A2b: I earnestly req feedback, give examples of how I’ve used it to mod and grow, and I usually get a statistically valid amount.
A2: Specifically asking people F2F is always helpful. Then you can follow up with a form. A little bribary 2 sometimes
A2 con't: I did a webinar with a district that provided a certificate after passing a short quiz (Google Form + AutoCrat add on)
A1b: DeWitt bases his bk on johnhattie's research. Feedback, given well, has a .75 effect. (.40 is 1 yr growth for 1 year input.)
how does a raffle fit into this ;)
Just had two Ts tweet about successes today. Maybe I am getting more feedback than I realized.
A2: GForm, paper feedback forms (some prefer hard copies), verbal conversations, walk & talks https://t.co/4AiRwNd7Ke
always good to ask how you can support
th e best part about the open ended is you often learn things you had not even considered
A2: I bought the premium version of Yet Another Mail Merge today to better email staff for feedback, personalized emails, etc.
Do you find adults editing when you approach? I find they either clam up or try to buttonhole you.😂
A2: Google forms, Google classroom, iTunesU,
Love that, I'm trying that one! I usually tell them my boss wants it. I like that option better.
Feedback Friday, all who respond are entered for a gift card. Tweet the winners, soon everyone is answering.
Definitely. And if you can have Ss / participants actively engaged, they give each other & you feedback
Haven't tried that yet. So many great tools to explore!
A2 I like to do in classroom collaboration with "Teacher timeouts" during lessons to process, email follow ups, google docs, ask ?
A2: post-its- 1 thing you loved, 1 thing that was OK, 1 thing that you want to learn more about; giant posters to put them on
A2 so many to choose. Gforms and padlet for PD, discussion feature is great! Love me some socrative and quizlet live
coffee and chocolate go far!
Was going to try it at a conference this weekend for the 1st time!
No matter how much you change the font size or cell dimensions?
Likert scale quests w/1-2 open ended. Try 2 keep GForms short & sweet. Ask if they've taught someone else what learned from me
This is AMAZINGLY GREAT! I'm stealing
I haven't year about NW. Debbie might know. I've been swamped with Admin class stuff. have been MIA.
love the idea. any specific questions or topics u cover with it?
Well, someone else I trust insists they’re a good thing. Not my fave. I think sometimes folk respond "to be done.”
A2: My principal and I have a Google Classroom for each department to provide "assignments", gather feedback, etc.
Welcome! It's a great chat. Moves fast, but so worth it!
A2 google forms & padlet are a given, but also just conversation around food when we are planning, or looking for new direction
Absolutely. I always say it’s IMPT to surround self w ppl w diff POVs - helps gain perspective & growth in many ways
Q2: The district uses SurveyMonkey, I use Gforms and post-its for exit slips, which I organize on the Postit app and send out.
If I am going to read paragraph text, I would rather give a gdoc assignment in Google Classroom.
Love this ! Simple and keeping it positive! https://t.co/zCYSi2Cpcm
A2: post-its- 1 thing you loved, 1 thing that was OK, 1 thing that you want to learn more about; giant posters to put them on
Q2: GForms. I hate paper copies and it forces them to try it. Keep it short though so they don't get frustrated.
Operation Breaking Bread is always a great way to get some good feedback https://t.co/sKAqN2rPO7
A2 google forms & padlet are a given, but also just conversation around food when we are planning, or looking for new direction
I love that app. I just never find a reason to use it. This is brilliant! Thanks!
A2: exit slips, Google forms, Socrative, email, face to face... having designated time to complete is essential
excel survey and Google forms. No incentives just a smile and some friendly reminder emails
I have a campus wide Google classroom for our brand new 1:1 iPad rollout
Paragraph text in a Sheets response can get very tedious for sure
Oh my gosh, this is beautiful!
I've used YAMM too, but not premium. Fancy!
I love this idea! I'm so stealling it :D https://t.co/RGmFEWWZMH
Feedback Friday, all who respond are entered for a gift card. Tweet the winners, soon everyone is answering.
. most common response? "Be available by email when I need it." Done!
Yes, however, when I do often, they stay focused on process. 1st thing is make sessions real for them
usually used for a parking lot for Qs and ideas during PD.
Smiles are the best $$$$ https://t.co/6ng8HTQw1p
excel survey and Google forms. No incentives just a smile and some friendly reminder emails
So many great ones to choose from! Padlet no longer works for me and I don't know why. So sad!
A2: give a performance task that doubles as a try tomorrow. That way Ts create something they can use and show understanding.
Hope your admin work is going well
I sometimes have trouble going back to them
A3: honestly, I will take feedback any way I can get it!
Got a few local places to donate and let the winner choose. Ss delivered and took the pic with the prize for twitter
Gives you up to 1500 a day vs. 50, I have 129 teachers, plus another 30+ staff, it's $24/year
How about the next GForm & the responses view?
LOVE THIS! https://t.co/iAERbZt5q8
A2: give a performance task that doubles as a try tomorrow. That way Ts create something they can use and show understanding.
Nearpod and GoFormative are great too! Similar to PearDeck.
and Ts do not tend to like spreadsheets. Reduce effective filter.
Totally doable. I love that I could see exactly who opened my msg and when!
Welcome! Feel free to provide feedback :) https://t.co/ltf1ozeOaT
Hi, folks, new to this chat and starting a little late. Excited for the conversation!
a good reminder I need to be better at it!
Always good to look back to reflect on successes & growth areas
Yes! no is complete w/o post-its 4 feedback & ideas <3 simple! add sharpies & painters tape ftw
Yeah, love how it turns the box green and shows "opened" when you send the emails
I believe you can retrigger an email after so much time if it is not opened too
Absolutely. Feedback is always around. Just need to be mindful to see it, hear it, feel it, …
I put the link at the beginning and at the end of the agenda as the closing activity
Got a few local places to donate and let the winner choose. Ss delivered and took the pic with the prize for twitter
Well said! Essential
https://t.co/1sUD1oRbGL
Feedback is the key to growth. Real data is essential, not "fluff" sometimes it's hard to hear...but a must!!
in class we don't always have time to get out chromebooks and get to a Form, post-ts= low tech feedback
like the idea of adding it at the end!
A2: Build relationships with Ts. If you have the right relationship, you will get feedback.
Stopping in for a few Anne Kamper 1:1 Instructional Coach Garland TX
how do you like the Postit app? Haven’t tried it.
It was a student who introduced me to this video early last school year. It's come in handy a few times since!
I wish I could like this about 10 times.
Q3- my fave is an email. It shows that the T went out of way and took time to write. Also great to print to post on my brag wall.
Thanks, Joe. LEarning a TON! Hey, I get to go to the Mindset conference in San Francisco again this year! You coming?
Not to mention sometimes you need to put the screens down, move around, and share it face to face
Absolutely! I get bored on the days that nobody needs help
That sounds interesting. I will have to check it out. Thanks! Our dotmocracies were paper and sticky dots.
I like the padlet idea too-change it up, but similar method! https://t.co/bQpwwKpVt2
Yes! no is complete w/o post-its 4 feedback & ideas <3 simple! add sharpies & painters tape ftw
Not on my calendar right now. When is it? Do you have a link?
it's always nice when you get one of those!
A3: my favorite is the honest stuff. I openly discuss my failures/iterations in the hopes it encourages their honesty
no you don't bc I heard i five periods in row....LOL
at times the self conscious part of me fears that I won't get good feedback from friends, maybe a little biased?
A3) Yes. AKA all of the above.
A3: short answer, allows people to explain why with specific feedback. Give them a voice
Depends on the goal of training. If the point is dig form assess, make sure there is time.
A1: I thrive on feedback it's the only way to improve we have a google form attached in email signature and in my form mule reply
Yet another tool on my radar that looks cool, but I haven't gotten to yet.
A3: May have misunderstood Q1, not sure how different. 😬
I think you need a mix of qual/quantitative data to get a whole pic.
We get more feedback when we provide Ts time to do it at the end.
I agree. Any feedback is good feedback.
some of the best feedback i get is from those friends who tell it likes it is!
A2 I also love to give unsolicited positive feedback - handwritten thank you notes are a great way to tell someone their awesome
I agree with that to a point. I have found they are more reluctant to put in writing, but I can get good feedback.
Is that the one in February? I got a flyer for that last week- looked awesome!
A3 skywriting? Jk. I like emails, notes, convos. I appreciate specific feedback incl one wondering or critical comment
love word clouds and Wordle!
Awesome, thanks. Good to know.
the trick is telling the difference. Not always the BFFs, but the ones you know who are honest.
w/out some sort of quantitative measure though, how do you pull together larger pictures ortrends?
Personal touch goes so far! https://t.co/5fB3C8XFiI
A2 I also love to give unsolicited positive feedback - handwritten thank you notes are a great way to tell someone their awesome
Love the Word Cloud Idea. I love Short answer, too. When I do follow up PD, I share those responses. https://t.co/zipdWsYjH1
A3: True/False is good if followed by OpenEnd question. I think all need to be followed with OpenEnders for true reading.
totally agree. I should be super quick to complete.
Is that a session or is it during lunch?
Whats up MR. Ben...long time no see. How's the life n the fast lane?
I agree, no one wants to spend more than 5 min filling out a feedback form
Yes! Definitely a great way to ask for feedback when the link is in email signature
A3: It's all good. Variety is the spice of life and variety begets stability within natural systems. https://t.co/gISs9whtyx
A3: text responses can provide some great content! but can get confusing if submitter wasn't clear. anon feedback so can't go back
Or is it the Learning & Brain conference?
A3: I think a quick mix of a multi-grid rating with a few open response
A3 keep it focused some fast radio/mc & then flush it out with a Short answer or 2 - get the most you can out of a little
A2: google forms is the easiest since we Are a g suite district but would like other ideas
Part of the reason why I designed mine as the 1-5 scale and a couple short answer
It's been fast. Nice to be back with the
Natural Selection or maybe I like variety....ummm
I may be reworking my schedule!
cool idea to see patterns in short answers...
That can take the objectivity out of it. Used to work in a district of 1K Ts, didn't know all, still got good fdbck
A3 Depends on the situation but a mix is good if you're working w/ a large group. Can go over short answer later Y/N in moment
I like even numbered likert scales. No hiding in the middle that way.
Great idea on sharing the responses. Never thought of that!
I <3 grid ?s in google forms for this, but they can be tricky to interpret (formulas or conditional formatting help)
anyone using gslides feedback in presenter mode ?
Great point! Has to be short and sweet or people won't complete it. https://t.co/tkeP1FIAjK
A3 m/c or scale with conditional formatting in the spreadsheet, and a couple short answers. Must take < 5 min to co… https://t.co/n7zxIM8P2o
I've used it once. Not sure how to use it successfully though
A3: Has anyone ever used TodaysMeet? I have with Ss, but not in a PD session
I love the summary of responses on the feedback form with this
all forms of feedback are important. Just short answer is my favorite
Agree Liz! Keep em quick!
Have used it before. Nice way to have a backchannel for PD participants
I AM! And I love it! Used it just today for a PD.
no, but I’m really curious to hear about this. Haven’t tried it yet.
A3: a little of everything is necessary I like scale and one or 2 short answer
I'm enjoying the use of google forms for afformitive quizzes...quick feedback
My Ss were hit and miss with it, when they were hit, it was awesome, I could see Ts using it well
Yes. Short answer is great for me & survey takers (less anxiety to type a lot)
I love the new form summary for sure!
A3: Authentic feedback is priceless -in any form especially actionable-how info is useful, what is not, ideas to revise...
...my dark explorations in research have trained me into the sheet by default, I need to hit the response tab more!
Yep. Not popular with the groups I see. Many don't have a device or don't multitask to post during session.
I love the Learning & Brain conference. Have attended twice before. PD day during this year’s :(
not saying that they need to be great friends, just that having the right relationship will build trust and help.
my spreadsheet kungfu is weak, but I have been learning from
A4: We put it on web, Public f/b makes ppl see that u care, & when u use it to improve, point it out. You get more f/b that way
I saw one one time where Ts got super inappropriate on it too, talking stuff about the presenters, not cool
Okay, , it's been a slice, but it's 0.5 hours past my bedtime on a week night, so I must take my leave! Go… https://t.co/uJJP4TLhoE
U covred this be4 I tweeted. 😋 Still at confs U don't know ppl & get good fdbck
so cool. I was planning on leaving early to be back with the family, but the gif alone makes me want to stay
A4: Wow. I don't usually publish the feedback- just share it with admins. Now thinking I will start! https://t.co/Z6z3OWdl9v
and they can be live for up to a year.
A4: By sharing feedback with PD participants, they can hold me accountable to making future sessions more relevant to their needs.
Sometimes Ts are the worst Ss!
A4: haven't though of publishing feedback. I could through my google classroom. Builds collaborative culture
Yes. It’s unpredictable. Some groups def use it more than others
A4: Except school board report/presos, I haven’t usually published. 😉 Seems like something you do to prove you're doing a thing
A4: Still working on this, but I have posted on district LMS for the Ts to see. Helps 2 make the form anonymous. Transparency!
A4: increasing the average of measures in PD is a goal. we publish internally to improve practice.
Josh is awesome, not saying I am a master, but I love sheet magic and I have developed some tricks :)
A4- Don't publish other than to write reports for Admin and share with other coaches.
A4: Thinking about putting some into meme's. Everyone gets a laugh and confirms their voice was heard.
The Responses tab has it’s own siren song…both are a good team.
A4: my feedback is from Ss, I share w/dept ask for ideas in areas that Ss found lacking
A4: when giving teachers feedback I use form publisher I love the way it puts my form responses in the pretty document I created
I can even show you how I made it if you stay. :)
different kinds of people choose to go to conferences than are required to go to PD.
A4: I don't publish, but I will look at it with colleagues to get their take on it sometimes https://t.co/85xhTEPxM7
I imagine you do! learned so much last time we chatted!
A4 last google form sent out the graph results of how ppl were doing with the new math adoption. Still have many Qs on publishing
in google classroom, the owner of the class can mute/delete inappropriate responses
but I totally get your point.
Hi...late, but excited to connect with my ! Lucretia from Arcadia
A3: For me, short answer. In order to a… https://t.co/WcfFWkDakM
A4:When I read this quest, a "litebulb"went off! Why hvn't I pub'd these? Such a powerful concept! I collct daily, I cld pub. wkly.
My last feedback Q is always “is there anything else you’d like to say”.so open ended. Leads to some great feedback
Joe, I am so hoping we can meet face to face someday. Andrea, come to the conference! : )
so true! I feel like the same prezi in conference vs district feedback is dif
better late than never. Welcome Lucretia
True. In larger session, having a backchannel is helpful. Have used for that too
It's unfortunate that there are schools with a culture like that. Admin should step up.
It really does help. Also easier for others to read.
Good to see you F2F this weekend!
A4 whether with form/autocrat or Doctopus/Goobric share peer feedback individually & as a class general version to guide revision
is definitely another great tool
Yup! And I've seen him on video. He's going to be a kick.
Me too! I want to meet everyone in my PLN!
so important because I think it lets people know you take their feedback seriously
THIS IS BRILLIANT! https://t.co/mygScf0K4k
A4: Thinking about putting some into meme's. Everyone gets a laugh and confirms their voice was heard.
Yes, and it’s STILL valid feedbck. They might be clearer w/out "I have to be here" biases.
Can you tell me more about this? I'm intrigued https://t.co/9tUDTkngxv
A4: when giving teachers feedback I use form publisher I love the way it puts my form responses in the pretty document I created
I no longer work there, partly because of the rough culture
A4 if feedback is published w/ comments or a forum the conversation can deepen learning & fuel new ideas/applications/goals
Had the privilege to meet several of my PLN today for the first time.
Shoot. I just did a PD on Friday and forgot about the GSlides Q&A. That would have been great. Is it available w/o GC?
Would love a link to learn! I learned so much from you at Roxnard! https://t.co/kKXkAZrLRU
Josh is awesome, not saying I am a master, but I love sheet magic and I have developed some tricks :)
have you considered 1-4 so there is no "middle ground"?
True. Publishing feedback on PD efforts by entire team helps share learning & insights. What do you think?
agree for sure! take it all with a grain of salt
A4: We have published results in our Edtech Weekly. It helped to promote response to our Elevate Coaching Program.
YES! Mine, too. I always get so much from that question.
Conf attendees filled my bucket as much if not more thn hometeam folk, in a different way.
Yes. I came across that earlier this school year. Want to help Ts implement for themselves
exactly why my default is 1-4 scale!-no middle ground. either is + or -.
I go for the strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree and strongly disagree scale myself
Have to go a little early tonight . I look forward to meeting some of you at Good Night!
That’s awesome. What’s ICIC2016?
Yes. When you go to Present in GSlides, it is in that drop down.
Have a great night, Debbie. Always great to see you.
Love both, and good feedback from my local peers is always the best for me.
the responses tab in new forms is a HUGE improvement. Very useful!
It depends on who you’re publishing to. Often felt like we’re doing it to disprove someone’s disbelief/skepticism.
right? I love those graphs!
that is the power of automated tools & putting the feedback in Ss hands.
That’s true. It’s def always about objective & often perception from others.
