Hello from Rio de Janeiro.
A1 my curriculum is very fluid. That's one of the beauties of . They change with the times.
Howdy Tyla, is that in Iowa?
Q1- Reflect on the key elements of the curriculum you use today. Does this need to change? How? [in case you missed it]
This week I am teaching a PD course on twitter chats for my colleagues - Some should be joining us!
A1: In the transition from traditional to digital, many changes still needed but making progress! Must be interactive!

Another great topic for . PreService Ts thinking about similar ideas here in Maine.
Love being able to change what I need to when I need to. Wish all curriculum could be like that.
Great running into some inspiring tweeps here! https://t.co/6qtT3bjaO6
Hi Bryan Miller Director of Ed Tech, Founder and co-mod , founder of with
A1: Face to face communication and group problem solving are very important
When I think of key elements of curriculum I don't think we should rely on text books as much as we do.
Joel from TN. 8th grade history 1:1 classroom.
A1: A major change would be making the curriculum more current so students can relate better.
A1 curriculum needs to be relevant to student. Problem solving. Integrating authentic tech.
A1 My curriculum consists of many topics that require lots of collaboration
Lillian, ed student from UNE
We need more schools/districts to see the fluid value of as
A1 - Change isnt needed, it essential! Embedding of student voice, digitization, creation, collaboration and custom paths
A1 today so much of curriculum is based upon how to assess and not on how to actually deliver the information!
here on the word of ! all the way!
A1 we use student created curriculum. Students research and discuss topics. They also write the content
YES, let them own the ENTIRE learning process
Face to face communicaton is more important than technology bc we cannot lose our social skills during education
A1) Someone else is taking over my reading group... I didn't teach today. :-(
Ts should change to fit their individual Ss' needs. Make learning interesting and engaging for all Ss
Hi!! Allison, digital learning coach from Indiana
likewise! How's the new position? Can't wait to hear more!
A1: Available digitally, quick access, wordy, not enough tech...and yes it needs to change to incorporate more blended learning
LOVE THIS! Yes, I would love ALL to have their potential realized.
awesome!!!! I'm sure it will be great!
A1: I'm trying to change the curriculum that I use to teach teachers (PD) to include more tech!
Good evening coach. How was Baseball today? .
A1-Digital formats can be customized to enrich instructional materials based on the needs of S.
A1: Curriculum is generally too T centered & needs to shift to S centered w/more S choice and voice.
A1: I was just blogging about the Four C's today, curriculum needs to embed these.
A1: moving away from textbooks is important; we need to let Ss have a voice in the curriculum
texts can't keep up with a changing world. Textbook pub are too far behind. Student driven is the truth
I'm joining the tonight between 8 and 9.
No doubt, The second something is printed, its out of date!
A1: Ours has no "embedded" tech. All are add-ons. Lots of "programs". Lots of changes needed - embedded, purposeful, innovative.
Hi, I'm Kathleen and an education major at the University of New England
Missing tonight, hope all is well, I'll be back on to connect as a parent soon.
some that are as part of - in fact I skyped with a budding group of designers :)
A1: We need to follow student interests and teach them how to engage with material, the process of learning IS the curriculum
I agree it's important. Just read a great article today tweeted by Pasi Sahlberg.
wet. We were indoors most of it. But good to be back at it. Now if I can just lose this boot
it has thank you :) and yours?
A1 Face to face communicaton is more important than technology bc we cannot lose our social skills during education
A1 key elements are multiple resources & tech tools when they enhance learning, limiting Ss to 1 source, limits learning
A1: Standards are pretty classic but delivery needs to change&resources &training need to be provided for Ts to connect it all.
Well welcome anyway. 😉. I think my AP went there. 20 years ago
I am working with an elem school on building game design content mixed in standard content. Looking for examples
A1: my curriculum is always changing. I am always trying to incorporate more tech into learning. Don't want to limit Ss learning
Shouldn't we leverage digital connections to enhance and model these over distances? Isnt that what our world needs
Today in our class students wrote letters on their blogs to Miami PD explaining why a Beyonce Boycott was wrong.
Yes! So many different learners out there should be taking the test based on the way they can deliver it the best.
IT has to let go of some control and place in the hands of Ts.
https://t.co/p9lkhZZFgc
We're learning to use NGSS for science, I think it's a step in the right direction from my schooling
A1: Relevance and connection to other important aspects of their lives. How will it serve them? What's in it for them?
A1: I like to think of my curriculum as fluid - main learning objectives may stay fairly constant, but tools change
I am looking at trying to integrate more passion and content into our tech.
PD doesn't change curriculum. Takes to long to develop far it to students and let them jigsaw this
I'm presenting these to the districts principals tomorrow. No pressure.
Fantastic. Well except we have an interventionist teaching my reading group because I'm pulled away too much.
Bill from Indiana.......pleased to be here
Does the curriculum change, or your process?
A1: An emphasis on process as much as product provides our students with tools in their toolbox to succeed.
Yes I agree, how it can best be delievered
happy to chat some time is my mantra!
A1 Focused on content that could actually be used in practice. Physics experimental practice, theoretical and numerical models.
I agree! I think changing the way lessons are taught would also improve the way students learn.
Trish 4th grade Math & Science from Williamson Cty Schools, TN
I agree, but I also feel like technology is over powering some classrooms and we are losing our communication
A1 Technology is slowly being integrated, 4 C's are being emphasized
A1 Digital Curriculum should enable Ss to create and collaborate using tech in order to learn
Good Luck! I really LOVE NGSS
It's all about authentic use of tech, not just using it because it's there.
curriculum is so densly packed....can't find time to do things outside of it.....
Passion and civic learning is the root of our class.
Why does f2f need to be more important than tech? Why can't the two Work in harmony? It doesn't have to be all or nothing.
I would make the argument at that point that the tech is not being leveraged correctly.
Process is being forgotten again! I agree! When it is about process, tech becomes a tool.
PD I've been engaged in w teachers the last 14 years certainly has changed curriculum - sustained, collaborative
Not sure of the questions but ... A1 not just Ss interests but society's long term goals.
it's iterative - curriculum (as a document) remains for about 3 - 5 years, but process changes
Could you give me some reasons why? Would make a great extra moment in presenting to hear a Ts POV
Maybe less than optimum integration rather than too much tech.
2nd grade teacher from Indiana
Ned, superintendent from VT - good topic
A1: Can't we try to make it more "cool"? What's with the fuzzy worksheet from 1996 that my middle schooler brought home today?
Q2 - How do you use Digital Curriculum in your classroom? What is positive about it, and what needs improvement?
A1: It is important that Ss move from users of tech to being creators. Many ways thru
A1. Apple doesn't poll us what we need. They just build a better product. We then go wow, we needed this.
A1: The main learning outcome I have for my students is iterative design - I model iterative design constantly in my teaching
try to apply a and belief in being into my classes.
A1: Teachers should integrate technology with the students specific needs
True, if done correctly! https://t.co/7QdArHMSy7
PD I've been engaged in w teachers the last 14 years certainly has changed curriculum - sustained, collaborative
Yes! Integrating tech teaching into content learning shows Ss how can use tech to enhance learning. https://t.co/zKZ93m5xXJ
I agree! I think changing the way lessons are taught would also improve the way students learn.
Followed the tonight and I'm hoping to learn a lot about technology!
Schools I have been in here in Florida are still in the Stone Age.
What's Q1? Can ab RT? Thanks.
Would you say it's more in the teaching of how to learn than the content itself?
Processes and practices always more impt than the tool, the book, etc.
that approach is not the norm - typically stakeholder input is crucial to product development
I Agree. You can't get an A without failing should be everyones mantra (if grades have to matter)
I like the order you listed... create, collaborate, then tech! When tech drives curric., we loose sight of learning.
you know I'm always happy to chat
Autumn Zaminski here! Sorry I am a little late! I've been at all day today and excited to continue learning tonight!
We must figure out their motivation so that they have a passion for learning it's more than worksheets. https://t.co/R6L1AFOtKr
A1: Can't we try to make it more "cool"? What's with the fuzzy worksheet from 1996 that my middle schooler brought home today?
Project Based Learning helps keep that in perspective. Bonus: Students love and it keeps them engaged.
First time on a chat. This goes fast!
A1 Right tech for right situation. Don't forget the Pencil was the first mobile device.
I might take you up in that in a couple weeks
What about pruning away "dead" curriculum? I think of curriculum more as a plant than a taco.
as am I. Trying to use it in a way other than a "treat" for the students.
Curriculum means little to Ss....the adults need to make the curriculum relevant to lives of Ss for authentic learning to occur
In my education class we use Twitter to see how other students and teachers use technology to learn.
Q2 - How do you use Digital Curriculum in your classroom? What is positive about it, and what needs improvement? [REPEAT]
We've got to connect it to their own experiences and relevance.
A1:Would like to see us move away from "covering" content-focus on true literacy:close reading & writing, & listening/speaking.
I think people forget that with all these packaged curricula out there.
A2--like to use tech when I can, when it makes sense, but sometimes there is no time to use it.....have to get the content out!
A2 Still in college, but I hope to use digital projects and portfolios for assessments
I think curriculum should have tech incorporated start to finish.
Don't u think it would lead to student-generated content?
Awesome! It is the best PD on earth!
Q2: I think that technology still has a long way to come in most schools. Needs to be included by not everything
A2 In my one class this semester, we use to give information, assignments, rules, and so on. There are so many resources
A2- Ts need to be taught how to use it properly so we can effectively model use for Ss.
Which helps give them a foundation for using tech on their own moving forward in life. Leverage it!
So you can't spell fail without "A" :)
A1 talked about this in a session with today! It is all about getting Ss to become creators vs consumers
A2 I teach 1st & if my Ss can't collaborate it's hard to do like it should be done. I use daily but want better.
Great that you are already thinking about it in your preservice program
Crucial, yes. But what stakeholders? What info do we provide them? Maybe this is why we change course every 6 mo
please do - it would be a pleasure to connect - need to meet the man behind the twitter persona :)
Right! We need to differentiate between projects and in curriculum so process isn't forgotten. .
I wish iBooks Author was more open on content it allowed. They are to tight on item like Pearson https://t.co/kWEuemx1A1
Yes! My Ss ❤️ for this! https://t.co/94FdFL06AS
A1: It is important that Ss move from users of tech to being creators. Many ways thru
. totally agree! Ask Ss what excites them....lead them to excitement and see them take off in their learning
Howard Pitler - author and consultant. Sorry to join late from Denver.
A2: For engagement, For Creation. Utilizes real world strategies that students will be expected to be able to do.
A2 - I use it to replace traditional content. Prevent the wound rather than putting a bandaid over it.
A2 - doesn't life have tech woven throughout? Why should school be different?
A2 Im in college digital Curriculum is very helpful in the learning process, and to get assignments done efficiently
A2: Blended learning has helped all levels of students to become more engaged in their learning.
if students create content, it is new every year and doesn't need to be pruned
A2: Our classroom uses many different platforms. Mainly Google Docs because it has so many capabilities.
Nice a memeified philosophy. I dig it.
not saying we shouldn't do it. I've lead HCI testing. Important. But right questions must be asked.
if we are talking , stakeholders include Students, Educators, Developers, Researchers, Parents
I'm missing the questions?
And it also should make things more streamlined and efficient.
Good point. I just don't see many school systems or schools that embrace that.
Thought that was from 1984?
A2: Digital everything (in the future) to showcase work that directly links to each standard. Need buy-in, and less glitches
I use 'creator vs. consumers' at least once a day in school - that is the key!
Q2 - How do you use Digital Curriculum in your classroom? What is positive about it, and what needs improvement?
I also feel we have an obligation to move learning beyond silos and move students on to the open web. Empowers
Tech allow 4 Ss to create w their knowledge & share their learning beyond just the T-- that's the power of for me
A2: ST Math & Imagine Learning are used at many elem classes I've seen. Engaging, but not much room for adaptation.
if it were possible I would be 100% paperless however sometimes we must bite the bullet and do what we're told.
Our curriculum has to respect, reflect, and value this!
gotta say....this goes fast! ----first time is dizzying !
In our class we have multiple platforms such as songs, apps, lexia, starfall to teach students new material
Real tasks | Real audience | Real learning
Not sure why but I don't see any of the questions in my feed.
A1 Do we need to be cool? Granted, I'm not saying we should be archaic.
Tech does not "allow" this. Might make it more spreadable but your learning space has to be designed for it.
Vocabulary choices can certainly emphasize meaning! I love this!
A1 This makes a number of excellent points: Why students don't learn what we think we teach https://t.co/75ZF3he69j
excellent point. Ss need to be able to find ways to leverage tech to their advantage
Saying hi to my friends on I'm Kolsten a Student in Georgia.
A2 more research & products being done w/tech. Still love to teach "old school" methods with actual encyclopedias & book though
I never saw Q2 either...😞
embracing text that are 3-5 years old when adopted is going well for them
they should be tweeted by me, look at my feed to find them
A2- sometimes I fall low on the SAMR model. Somethings are simple substitution but we've got to move to redefinition
iterative design is the process of design> build> test (receive feedback)> iterate on design (lather rinse repeat)
A2: I think tech has allowed for a more authentic audience by expanding my classroom beyond the bricks and mortar.
Use LMS for Ss resources, blended learning environment, learning anytime-anywhere when tech is available https://t.co/6nXU4DxY0l
Q2 - How do you use Digital Curriculum in your classroom? What is positive about it, and what needs improvement? [REPEAT]
A1: We have been able to update our curriculum to go along with what is currently used in industry and new and cutting edge tech
A1 Digital curriculum means all Ss have access to appropriate digital tech 24/7.
I still love paper - and there is a bit of research emerging about the cognitive benefits handwriting provides
Q3 coming in just 2 minutes. If you are missing them, check my feed!
A2: I use digital curriculum to completely streamline 1 class and working towards another. Has increased S learning.
Exactly. Tech has allowed me to flatten the walls of my classroom and expand my kids outside those 4 walls.
we are developing a plan. using SAMR and TIM as supports, as well as TPACK.
Recognition is first step; we are all low at times! https://t.co/z1zV1s4Fkd
A2- sometimes I fall low on the SAMR model. Somethings are simple substitution but we've got to move to redefinition
Love the SAMR model I could see that and then tweak it a little
Don't forget taxpayers and politicians ...
your Qs aren't showing up in the FYI.
A2: We use it to pass in assignments. It makes it easier since we don't have to deal with printer issues.
Sadly so.... part of my job as a consultant is to help them change their mindset! :)
A2: We are looking at a full K-12 ICT Skills ladder to connect to classes and create standards
A2: When you say digital curriculum, do you mean teaching with technology or using a prefab 'digital curriculum' ?
A2: So important that tools are tied to Ts and Ss learning goals in the classroom
great point! Can easily fall into the trap of simply continuing the same teacher-centered practices with tech
Great thing about SAMR is moving all over the scale. No one lives in one spot https://t.co/vG7wQaEyon
A2- sometimes I fall low on the SAMR model. Somethings are simple substitution but we've got to move to redefinition
No shame w/ substitution as long as you recognize where you are at. We all strive for more and continue to learn.
A2 LMS helps management. Dig Curr has allowed for greater research and critical thinking.
A2 digital curriculum allows me to have a second, virtual classroom. I share, collaborate, assess, communicate with Ss and Ts.
A1 If Ss need to demonstrate certain skills does it matter how they show them?
That's an added benefit I wouldn't have thought of! haha!
You have a tough job, no doubt. Mindsets can be a difficult thing to change
it's all about the why :)
I struggle to find practical application in elem classes, but I do what I can! learning prepares Ss for life.
RT q2 https://t.co/2BqHCZE135
Q2 - How do you use Digital Curriculum in your classroom? What is positive about it, and what needs improvement?
Yes and then there is the BOOK. Turning pages, the sensory aspect of it... But the copier keeps us poor https://t.co/ZGy527PETt
I still love paper - and there is a bit of research emerging about the cognitive benefits handwriting provides
What tools do you find helpful to CREATE digital curriculum? Why do you like them?
. Backwards design is the key!
I've seen similar research pointing towards reading on paper vs. on a device.
Q3 - What tools do you find helpful to CREATE digital curriculum? Why do you like them?
certainly not forgetting taxpayers - we are trying to create good for their children
How is for reflection. The why is during the process
Yes, Daniel Willingham has done some work in this area - saw him speak recently
A3: ! It allows your students to write or draw in response to anything and you can see and give feedback live!
A3 talking with other teachers about works well for them is invaluable!
A2 at K-6 level I have some younger kiddos afraid of tech. They don't have it at home & are intimidated by dig curr
But if they don't want to change, isn't that valid? We asked, they answered.
A1 I create content to make it easier to grasp abstract concepts in math/physics w/interactive visualizations and simulations.
A2: Seesaw blog writing&digital portfolios, show learning, gather it & more https://t.co/WviudeXrRX
Q2 - How do you use Digital Curriculum in your classroom? What is positive about it, and what needs improvement?
A2: I love Google Classroom to manage assignments and post videos.
a3-only tool I have experience with for creating is classroom...what else should I know...any tips?
A3: Puppetpals is a great and different way to present projects. Kahoot is a quiz-like game w/ competition
I'm thinking more of the 'why' in terms of thinking of the learning outcomes
A2. The positives are Ts and Ss learning together, engaged an excited. The negatives are same old garbage with fancy tech.
are the digital resources paid for, free or something you created?
learning space/classroom climate is def impt but tech helps create easier opport 2engage Ss beyond room & textbooks
I am right there with you. Only paper we us is when Ss choose to take notes on paper then take pics to save
How do you use Digital Curriculum in your classroom? What is positive about it, and what needs improvement?
A2: I call it foundational tech, and it is being embedded into "launch" units at start of year. Classroom, Drive, etc.
A2: Been wanting to try and but just haven't dove in yet! Anyone?
A3 LOVE to compile sites for younger kiddos. Makes research & such easier for them to locate the sites.
I need to create more of them - and for them to see wider use.
is something I just signed up for! It keeps track of student points with neat characters
Guess I need a burrito. My taco shell is stuffed.
TPACK and SAMR provide a model to think about embedding tools in the classroom
Q2 Technology is great but don't force it. Think about what Ss are going to learn then incorporating technology.
A3: Talking to others, blogs, and thinking outside the box
if 500 people jumped off a bridge, is that valid?
My kindergarten students did just two worksheets a week!
using "space" in a very meta sense not in terms of physical location but anywhere learners read, write, and play.
My love for Dojo is huge! I'm the mentor for my school and love it.
I don't either . Just winging it.
I am seeing this change for most part. Ss are used to doing things digitally.
exactly. Too many see the cool tech thing and want to use it and then think of why later. Not good
A3: Google docs, to stay organized with all of my classes and keep all my writing in one place.
YES, Technology should not be used, it should be integrated.
Great question to ponder! https://t.co/MG7JF0mhUi
A2: When you say digital curriculum, do you mean teaching with technology or using a prefab 'digital curriculum' ?
A3: Thinglink, Padlet, word, google sites & working with other future teachers- be able to stay organized & current
A3 I've used for online portfolio websites with students and had a lot of success.
A2 They blog a math reflection. Positive- they write about the 'whys' of math. Improve- not just saying how to do a problem
A3- Google Classroom, Seesaw. There's a ton of stuff out there.
To assume tech always leads to greatness means never having spend time in a Read180 classroom.
usuing what? Sorry. too hard to follow!!!
Q3: , You have to find the right tool for the particular topic. Organize them with
Struggle with tech choice for Ss usually one purposeful & use of BYOT whenever can support skill.
A3: Wikis, Google Extentions, Digital Storytelling, pear deck and gooru
A3: I use all things Google. From docs to sheets and forms, to google drive. I use it all for my Ss learning.
Q3 - What tools do you find helpful to CREATE digital curriculum? Why do you like them?
Just because you're accustomed to something doesn't mean it packs a cognitive punch
This is the first time using a digital portfolio in one of my classes, how successful do you think it is?
A3 I really love using hyperdocs with Ss created in - put all the resources they need in one place
A3: tech needs to promo collaborative experience. Not 1 person show anymore. Companies like replace manager w/ teammate
A3: hangouts & more https://t.co/m4kNLgddJR
Q3 - What tools do you find helpful to CREATE digital curriculum? Why do you like them?
A3 - [APPLE] iBooks Author, Pages, Keepvid | [PC] Google, YouTube
I used with my students daily to review current events, read on their level, and answer CCSS questions
I love for building and delivering curriculum. The formative feedback informs instruction immediately.
will take a luddite teacher who connects with my childs passion or the latest in greatest in any day
Q3 - What tools do you find helpful to CREATE digital curriculum? Why do you like them?
A3: I've seen a jump in Ts using Twitter w/Ss to keep digital curriculum relevant and connected to experts. Love it!
I've seen this a lot as well. https://t.co/czPSQ4fVF3
I am right there with you. Only paper we us is when Ss choose to take notes on paper then take pics to save
A3: In my tech class we need to create an online portfolio and websites like Weebly is a great tool to use.
AMEN! https://t.co/irAwibTlJF
will take a luddite teacher who connects with my childs passion or the latest in greatest in any day
Part of why tech should be limited is that there's too much. Every task should have the right tool. Yes should be choice
It's true that most prefer digital, but I still have a few that opt for paper
WOW! Lots of solid options being shared!
A3 Have been using in 5th & 6th to create book trailers this week. Ss also making internet safety vids for fam night
How about WikiSticks? Do you use those too? I love me some WikiSticks!
A3: In google docs, write curriculum and put live links to twitter teacher experts and digital curriculum supports!
and doesn't mean it's best for student learning
A3 I use worksheets and have great feed back from them. Discuss
And to cite John Hattie, there's no evidence that adding technology makes instruction better
A3 Poll everywhere is a great, kids can answer anonomously so they dont feel the pressure if they get an answer wrong
A3 Padlet, TodaysMeet, Google Docs, Kahoot
A2: Sometimes bells & whistles of tech get in way of thinking.Used for Ss to create manifesto. Font/color trumped depth.
Currently grading some. One Ss blog reflection on distributive property
A3 also has a lot of great content available for teachers and students learning with the robot and others
A3 also use tools like EduPuzzle, EdCite, Quizizz, Edmodo, Smore, Canva. So many tools!
We need to guide students to find their own best ways of learning
A3. Tools that are multi-purpose/cross-curricular. Etc.
My Ss parents ❤️ it & so do I! Issue is getting them all connected. Some are not for whatever reason. https://t.co/UZs7CiXp4Z
This is the first time using a digital portfolio in one of my classes, how successful do you think it is?
A3) I've fallen in love with GAFE but I was a iTunesU convert in the beginning.
Absolutely, I am immersed in tech, but frequently I use paper to work out designs.
Here though I am a bit cautious because you have to first ask what counts as learning.
A3 emaze, , , great tools to create digital lessons for blended classrooms
same here! Love the new question feature in google classroom. Only wish they'd tweak it a bit
The new updates make it tempting to go back I am sure!
I use Poll Everywhere and Today's Meet w kids and adults
Nathan u r the worksheet God. Everyone could take a lesson from you. https://t.co/mOEZguD6sV
A3 I use worksheets and have great feed back from them. Discuss
A3: great for Ss to collab, & learn from each other. Curriculum needs to evolve to give students larger role.
Those tools are also great to use with staff during PDs and staff meetings - to get their input & answer questions!
I use paper to scribble ideas, tech to implement.
every week we are encouraged to participate in Twitter ed chats and respond to questions
It should always be a choice. We don't all learn the same way.
Yes to GAFE! It serves all learners
I agree. When we first went 1:1 saw less comprehension. It grows all the time.
I have all my 8th grade students blogging now using - great for showcasing their work and reflecting on process
Well you know Hattie uses large-scale studies w pre/post measures
A3 Sometimes tools of the trade (math & physics) like Mathematica or Matlab.
Sounds like my process too!
A3: Another fav is = super engaging. Our Ts love it, & use data from NPs to inform instruction. Great in stations!
ex. Huge fan of Hattie but giving effect size of feedback have we studied rtech based feedbacK?
Me too! I've been keeping a notebook of the things I've brainstormed for years!
The fifth C- Choice! (You could have brought up before my blog post) ;-) https://t.co/PVZfMVOLKS
Maybe we should be talking about 5 C's? Curriculum being the 5th. Sts need to critically decide on content.
A3 Love my catalog. Yes, the library catalog
I feel like I always say this but it's so true!
We also have to consider how important fine-motor skills are for the little ones.
completely free. I have gone completely Google with classroom, forms, and docs for my students to use.
Nor do we learn the same way in all situations or contexts
A3 I'm a junior in college and using Puppet Pals to get my idea across to my professor! Check it out
A3 great forum type tools, padlet is extremely versatile
Yes those measures were always of traditional skills. There is a new set of standards we must meet.
A3: Important to have good infrastructure and support for digital curriculum
NICE, I loved the day that I made that shift in my Kindergarten room
A3 youtube videos snag it google docs. Love snag it for screencasting so easy kids can do it. Kids are doing bitsbox for parents.
excellent! Hadn't seen this yet. Thanks!
A3 Often just a text editor to write content, and a strong skill set to be able to express myself.
A3: I appreciate tools that don't assume the role of teacher. give opps for my Ss to do something with what they learn.
A3 teachers can also create suggested reading lists for Ss in our online card catalog!
it really is. Increases learning, student responses, and work that is turned in as well!
Attended 2 conferences w neuroscientist presenters this past yr - they say the same
Web based (HTML5 w/WebGL) content can be very powerful and effective.
The web is how we read, write, and participate. To avoid it bc it doesnt raise test scores is silly
A3: Digital textbooks, Google Drive, YouTube.
Got moleskin & an note pad & Michel Scott is my hero
definitely. I want email notifications for work submitted AFTER the deadline.
yes indeed! And that is truly the root of differentiation.
I am tweeting from an ed class about how to use tech in the classroom, good time to learn from Ts everywhere!
I love the list, except for the first one :(
has allowed the students and me to create our own text. They like helping me choose and it is so easy to modify.
Love Padlet! Use this w Ts in PD and they find out it's easy and use w Ss!
A3. Toontastic by is one of my favorites for younger kids
A3 Excited to explore ways to create this. I'll probably use Google Classroom and Google Drive to stay organized
Do Ss pick which they want to do? Do they have to complete all? I like this idea!
I've done the same. We are 1-1 iPads, and the integration has been nearly seamless. Love GAFE! https://t.co/8KgGcQxopT
completely free. I have gone completely Google with classroom, forms, and docs for my students to use.
is someone putting all of the tools in a Doc and sharing it?
Ha! I just posted something nearly identical re: ! Great minds/great tool! Have you seen new NP VR lessons?
A4: Set up very well! Has technology integrated into it and would engage students!
I never said to avoid anything - but the most impact on learning is a good teacher - Hattie
I just hate the copy machine bill.
Do students and/or parents follow this account? Can it be used as a tool to promote your class?
We use Unify from that allows us, to make assessments that mock PARCC.
A3: primary Ts have you tried Epic! It is a great place for research! Free for Ts!
A4 looks great. Our 2nd graders use QR codes for extensions of their curriculum each unit.
a4- so much tech though.....do kids get lost in the process though? what if you have low readers/slow typers?
thanks - and from work flow perspective - i evaluate it and immediately pin it - seamless
Nothing is better than the teacher doing what's best!
agreed - great way to showcase S work!
Yeah, it looks fun, but does seem a bit like overkill, and I LOVE tech
and it would be nice 2 search a single student's recent answers (or be able to group questions in a single assignment
A4: Lots of good in there, more interactive than static textbook, embedded video would be better.
I agree! use at many of my PDs as well, one of the most versatile Webtool out there for Ts & Ss
Yes - I am from and focus on higher ed. You may have a different perspective.
absolutely - kids and parents can but everything I pin gets tweeted so definitely showcasing class
I do have Ss who use paper text and tests. All use digital for storage
A4: What's great about this is possible crosscurric integration right in the doc. Link to discussion pts in other disciplines
A4: I love it, but could see other teachers criticizing it. Its nicely laid out, easy 2 read, not too visually discerning.
A3 I like using as well for assigning digital articles, digital annotations and quizzes.
A4: The sample looks a lot like a webquest.
A4. How could that be more engaging, media rich, enticing to students? Trailers for each segment. Visuals.
I have seen some struggling keyboarders get frustrated
I 100% agree, but if I recall self-assessment had largest effect size of the 130+ variables
Thats just it! Does digital curriculum have to be a textbook? The answer is that it SHOULDNT be a textbook!!
A4: Looks interesting! Something new for students.
I feel like that should be the whole point of tech.
I use the most, with puppet pals, pic collage, iMovie maker. , etc. 1st graders need lots of action. ;)
Important to be able to individually find what works across both mediums
A4: this is great! Would be great cross-curricular activity/unit for the students to learn.
...yup...I have some real strugglers this year...
NewsELA is great and so is OpenEd.
Newsela wonderful tool, gives Ss choice, flexible Lexile, real world info text! use in any content!
Its just the same problem I have with Cubans work. None of the measures evaluated tech
Love the idea of checking homework! Will be sharing this. Thanks.
A4: I dream of the day when I get this organized w/ my digital curriculum. Cannot overemphasize the importance of discussion!!
YES! I've been waiting for this! If you need any facilitators, let me know!
When we shift to this, we rename it to ONLINE LEARNING MODULES instead of textbooks!
A4. Looks so juicy, rich, full of interesting ideas. How could those Ss jump in to deconstruct it and remake it into their own?
Have you had luck with s's and ps following you on twitter/pinterest? It would be great 4 me 2 begin better promoting
I dread checking homework. ? .
A4 - I like how it offers analog, and digital tasks that scaffold up blooms taxonomy.
Using standardize achievement to measure the impact of tech won't work.
A4: Great ideas & creative but would like more S choice to present learning & how want to show connections. Also..rubric?
Checking out early. A workout is calling. Need to clear the mind. Enjoyed the discussion
#1 self-reported grades, not just self-assessmt. I don't work anywhere where Ss give themselves grades.
A4 - this has game based learning written all over it! Maybe an ARG? Interactive fiction with
A4: A big shift from teacher as sage to learner in control. Great move, but now we need to train teachers to be facilitators.
That's a powerful 21st-century skill + key concept in , , & https://t.co/Sm4mc8Ufxy
A1: The main learning outcome I have for my students is iterative design - I model iterative design constantly in my teaching
That's been the big change in my district. Ts stepping down and becoming facilitators.
Hattie's critique is that no study has been done that meets his criteria for sample size
In 3/4 of my classrooms, but it is easier in . I did the same in 6th grade though
Important to teach students to use digital tools rather than assuming they have the skills
that it would. Thankfully Google does a lot of updating, so we shall see.
here here! I am 'old school'...need some help in that area! :)
A3? Wayback Machine and Cybercemetery
I love tools bc it allows us to individualize instruction while giving Ss choice. It's hard to "let go" but worth it!
A4: organized, great ideas, a modern approach to curriculum, encourages higher level thinking
had a chance to talk to its not meant to be linear.. different spots at different times.
"no one cares...what you know, they care what you can do with what you know." hard for Ts to let go of content!
Q5 - What tools do you find helpful to SUPPORT digital curriculum? Why?
A4: I think an overarching connection would be great here. Take gold rush tie to Stephen foster, the Guthrie 4 color prob & more
with open choice, my rubric focuses solely on the skills I'm assessing & not the product w reflection component
It isn't easy! Facilitating ain't a walk in the park, that's for sure. Add in formative assessment - phew! :-)
Q5 - What tools do you find helpful to SUPPORT digital curriculum? Why?
A5. Models and examples, picking apart current lessons, frameworks that I can apply.
A5: to curate resources, to organize them for students (especially the new lesson planner tool!
Very true! Skillful teaching is an art.
A4 great ideas/lesson, embedded media might make it more interesting/engaging for Ss, great tool for this type
I built a teacher observational tool driven on feedback based on Hattie. I am agreeing.
That 100% depends on what the tech is and what it asks them to do.
A5- Twitter chats, seeing what others are using and how I can incorporate it into my lessons.
not as much as I'd like but I have students on twitter and engaging in twitter chats!
A5: both help support a digital curriculum.
A5: Continued- , GAFE works for the teachers too
But it is a mata-analysis, thus results are driven by dependent variables
A5 - YouTube, HowStuffWorks
a5-starting to see how twitter chats can help! :)
Exactly, our districts work with Rueben taught us a lot https://t.co/cKriPJflvF
had a chance to talk to its not meant to be linear.. different spots at different times.
A5: Lots of examples and "how-tos" As well as edmodo and GAFE, and PDs to share.
Yes, . Just having a unified email system is awesome, then through Google Classroom on top of that with Drive and youre set
What an amazing feeling to be in classrooms where that happens. All teaching energy returns.
I heard that the new Charlotte Danielson rubric may contain SAMR? Is classroom staff ready to be proficient in it?
A5 sometimes I just follow my own course. I'm the captain.
A5: Blogs, Twitter, Wikis, Youtube, snapguide, instructables, 3dgamelab, GAFE
Great share out. Have a T who claims to know little about tech. Invited her class to a in which she interacted
Agreed! Or could you use a rubric to eval the product & process? https://t.co/mZCXDCbmKk
with open choice, my rubric focuses solely on the skills I'm assessing & not the product w reflection component
A5: We have a 3D Printer and Laser Engraver to turn computer drafting plans into reality. Students need to hold their projects!
A5 I feel all the tools mentioned previously are able to be used from the teacher's standpoint to help the digital curriculum.
Q5: HSTRY, Itslearning, Emaze, Prezi. All these tools help me and students stay organized and know what they need to do
Isn't all instruction based on dep variables? And multivariate analyses?
My students love because it helps them stay better organized.
A5 couldn't live without to support DC. Also or similar platform. is super helpful too.
-she had asked me to help her connect with two other Ts out of state because she loved it so much! Tech win! Four walls smashed
A5: Twitter chats, and webpage full of such useful information.
I would argue it is first based on relationships.
. Ready or not, I'm happy it'll be added. It's time.
...forming that connection between the digital and tangible world. https://t.co/1xYyT5m8SY
A5: We have a 3D Printer and Laser Engraver to turn computer drafting plans into reality. Students need to hold their projects!
Yes to everything you said
Creation and Support are separate in my eyes. You Create a landing pad, but your supports are the rockets you launch
A5: Not exactly a "tool", but human resources ie. digital coach to model, co-teach & collaborate provide valuable support to Ts!
I agree w/ app smashing. Creating=understanding at deeper level.
A5-b: I have also use , and Google forms with to grade assessments.
A5 google drive/classroom/docs, , , , are top picks for a digital classroom
A5 and our school's website are where most of my curriculum & life are located.
You have to look into Quizizz and Quizalize!
A5: When it comes to assessments Google Forms coupled with has transformed the feedback I give Ss in a timely fashion.
A5 I'm also fairly in love with my ChromeBook
This is becoming more popular in our school as well.
on mine right now! So nice.
For sure! We transitioned a cohort of teachers to audio feedback
A5? Have a building expert or two (maybe teams) on a type of tech/app. Teach each other. Do not go this alone.
A5: my students submit their engineering portfolios on Google classroom.
. digital notebooks are powerful for both Ts & Ss, note-taking skills, organizing learning, multimedia
This discussion is a great warmer for tomorrow.
GREAT thoughts floating around here!!
I stopped doing that and decided to actually build stuff :)
We have a tech team our Ts can come brainstorm
A5 all tech tools in world, but the key is a student centered engaging environment, lessons designed by Ts to connect to world
Agreed, but not all have knowledge for multiple reasons, not just ignorance or ornerary.
Thank you all for a great chat! Twitter is a wonderful place to meet and share amazing ideas!
A5: Means to an end or end itself. Rarely is tech the 'end'. I'm not devlping "Bloggers" I'm devlping thinkers/writers/readers.
Twitter chats my PLN I am amazed at how helpful everyone is. Visiting real classrooms and seeing what they do!
they can be. Careful or you'll end up like me. Too many chats. Too little time.
Last Q coming in 2 minutes!
A5 also can't forget & for my family & inspiration!
O I know, I hosted for years!
I'd love to get some ideas on a PBL fractions project for 3 grade. Ideas?
Yes! Tech coaches! https://t.co/VUZaWy7tA8
A5: Not exactly a "tool", but human resources ie. digital coach to model, co-teach & collaborate provide valuable support to Ts!
Any other T vloggers out there by the way?I love watching and have brought a bit of that style to a classroom vlog
I'm sorry! I have to leave early but I am reading through everything tomorrow morning!
A5 Twitter chats my PLN I am amazed at how helpful everyone is. Visiting real classrooms and seeing what they do!
A5: I just signed up for an account this week. Excited to see the effect on my Ss writing!
Agreed. The learning environment and clear learning intentions go a long way.
Go for it! Stay connected and Innovating!
A5? Costs. Many apps costs. This adds up. District/School should fund these. Uniform deployment eventually.
. I believe it's the most valuable "tool" there is! By far the most interesting and meaningful.
We have 11 minutes left and this is the best question!
Q6 - 3S’s. What are you going to START? What are you going to STOP? What are you going to SHARE?
Protecting student privacy and security is important as you think about moving to tools
thanks for a great chat! Gotta get the last straggler in bed.
A6 Start facilitating more. Stop talking so much. Share tech tools for our not so techy teachers.
A5: Start-giving students control, Stop- trying to dictate strategies and outcomes, Share successes and failures
Every book I write starts in a notebook!
a6-going to start participating in these more! so many ideas! going to stop being fearful--share successes along the way!
I've got to work on my dictating strategies and outcomes too! It's so hard to not lead them where I want them.
A6 START reflecting more on tech curriculum on my blog-STOP trying to fit tech in everything-SHARE qr code info & Ss success
Extremely. We are limited by COPPA in Elem/Middle right now. Looking for safe ways moving forward!
ESD_Cochran: Wizer - Create Interactive Writing Activities to Share Through Google Classroom https://t.co/9PRwdjol54 #…
yes! I've got to stop trying to incorporate everything!
In Hattie dependent variables were standardized
A6: start giving more time & directions for app smashing; stop saying there isn't time
A6: start another grant more iPads& . Stop so much control. Share anything...Just ask https://t.co/ZP2eGY2thK
Q6 - 3S’s. What are you going to START? What are you going to STOP? What are you going to SHARE?
Did you grab my lists? They are all free apps!
Same is true for most meta-analysis, you need power
A6. Start listening to Ss and Ts more. Stop fearing I'm not good enough to try new things. Share experiences with educators.
I'll go back in the transcripts in ;) Thank you!!!
Ha! All you need is an iphone and imovie to get started :)
RT if you learned about a new idea or tool tonight!
But, but, there is this one last thing. . . . https://t.co/THNWDOhwSU
yes! I've got to stop trying to incorporate everything!
here here!! https://t.co/WDMGhPoZXr
A6. Start listening to Ss and Ts more. Stop fearing I'm not good enough to try new things. Share experiences with educators.
A6: Start adding to my plans every Monday night......that counts right?
I've been using for a few months and it's been great! Still learning how to make the most of it.
Yes not all, they had to meet specific power standards.
A6 Start- allowing more opportunities for student voice/choice, Stop - Ss from focusing on grades instead of learning, Share!!!!
A6 START sharing more - maybe a vlog? STOP forgetting about good teaching & UDL. SHARE what I know about DC (see START)
A6: Start-Investing more time, Stop-trying to convince everyone Share- simplistic lessons already designed to kill it
A6: Dive in, have faith, learn alongside your Ss. You don't need to have it all figured out.
This has been awesome! I've got several new things to research and learn!
A6: START reflecting and collaborating more, STOP letting plan time go wasted, SHARE my positivity with others.
Wowza! Sharing with my coworkers and Twitter friends! Thank you all!
meta-analyses have great value but lack context.T needs to do that.
Start connecting my classroom to the world. Stop teaching in the classroom I grew up in. Share both my successes and failures.
Such a great chat! I valued everyone here tonight!
Great point, Share your FAILS. They are just the First Attempt In Learning
SO important! Work through some of it together - own it together!!! https://t.co/awMBg6wFks
A6: Dive in, have faith, learn alongside your Ss. You don't need to have it all figured out.
For Gdocs think about creating one login for students in a class to share and create documents with their names
Thanks to all for my first experience
Thank you for a great chat and thought provoking questions!
This was fun :) Perhaps I shall see you all next week.
GAFE is the only thing we DO have. We haven't used extensions/add ons for chromebooks, which limits their potential.
Start: pushing for curriculum integration. Stop: accepting excuses. Share: the workload, the challenges, the successes.
My eyes and brain need a break!!! ;) Wow! this was FAST & FURIOUS but GREAT!
Thanks everyone, for a lovely I'm always glad I stopped in! Thanks for great Q's!
Let me know if you they like it!
AWESOME JOB EVERYONE! Thank you for sharing your innovation!
Thanks for joining tonight’s ! Thanks, for running the show!!
Teacher to teacher, or even student and community to teacher PD is a win.
Great time tonight on , thanks for guiding the discussion and for reccomending I joining!
Thanks for a great chat tonight - great to see everyone and learn with you - definitely need to join y'all more often!
Last week, awarded the best pictures of 2015! We have some of the photos — and the stories that come with them.
Agreed. Good thinking and give and take.
friends, hang around and chat with us too! chat on initiative at 9pm ET.
An hour never flies by so fast during the day! Thanks crew! Lots of great conversations. See you next Monday night!
