I am also not going to violate their privacy by forcing them to upload a video to the internet ... I don’t care how “private” people say it can be ... it is called respect for the student’s wishes. #HackLearning

Exactly. So many of my Ss rarely see a different county much less a different viewpoint. I would love a tool that could help me facilitate interaction. #hacklearning

I want to pause. I know many introverts who aren’t shy. Many introverts find video helpful because they can do it when they are ready to. Introversion is about what takes/gives energy. #hacklearning

A3 my theatre students performed their monologues and students responded back, we’ve used it for class introductions, book studies and building our class community with get to know prompts. #HackLearning

True but you’re still seeing yourself in a camera and hearing your voice. That in itself scares Ss #hacklearning

That’s a great idea! This would be helpful in HS as I think the ‘voice’ adds to the book recommends. #hacklearning

I like it, Terry! That idea could even be mashed up with this one: https://t.co/mwzgL0OyP0 Writing (or speaking) format could be varied infinitely, with more or less structure, depending on participants/purposes. #hacklearning

Yes there is - however just consider what benefits there could be to helping students review how they are perceived when they talk. Self assessing their clarity and ability to communicate their thoughts. Not saying it's the only thing, just think it's important too. #HackLearning

A3- I think there are powerful opportunities for students to build community using Flipgrid. Vlog buddies was a cool idea I saw used between classes this year in different regions of the world. #hacklearning

Explaining math aloud is extremely difficult and an excellent skill. Maybe ask your students how to solve a problem rather than explain why they chose one method. #HackLearning

I think the ‘hearing’ piece is what makes it so powerful. Whether or not they show their face the voice adds to it. #hacklearning

One caution that I have for teachers introducing @Flipgrid to their students is that you may not be aware of students who have been abused, especially sexually, & they may be very triggered about being photographed or on video, so allow for choice without pressure. #HackLearning

A3. I used @Flipgrid for #observeme & on 1st day of school-parents message kids saying how proud they were of them & wishing them great 1st day of school;). We also had student led conferences last year & kids used @Flipgrid Amazing! Wouldn’t go back to traditional #HackLearning

That statement could be true of a writing prompt also. I've had students trying to take huge chunks of time with their written response. The more comfortable they get with the writing the less time it takes. That's part of the learning/teaching process. #hacklearning
