Good evening. Thanks for joining us. I’m Frank Bellomo, Principal of Fox Elem., from Chippewa Valley. Looking forward to learning some new ideas from all of you. #COLchat
Good evening, #COLchat! Ryan in Michigan -- 6th Grade Social Studies. Very excited to join the reboot of #COLchat. With @WaltKozlowski at the helm, I know we're in good hands.
A1: Ts and Ss need to celebrate our victories together, no matter how small. Everyone needs to feel appreciated when they have a win, especially in the classroom. #COLchat

A1 Celebrations are very important in order to build community, relationships, trust, fun, and focus! Everyone likes a little appreciation and recognition. #COLchat
A1: Celebrations are necessary to keep morale and engagement high in a culture of learning. We have to acknowledge the wins to continue to fuel the fight.
A1. Celebrations should allow students and staff to feel a sense of accomplishment. Celebrations do not have to be grand events. They can be for small accomplishments in our classroom. All types of celebrations. #COLchat
A2: One of our Ss qualified for the Scripps National Spelling Bee this year. We had a spirit week dedicated to his achievement filled with assemblies and watch parties while he was in Wash. D.C. The whole school came together as one to cheer him on. #COLchat
A2: Each day, in each class, we end the class recognizing Ss for positive contributions they made to the class. Ss have to identify the people who are making the contributions and we thank them for their efforts. #COLchat

I have a comfortable rolling chair that is the designated Student of the Day chair. Ss who get recognized are eligible to be selected. (I select the recipients so everyone gets a chance to experience the luxury.) #COLchat
A3: Showcases, announcements, stickers, ceremonies, parties, and may favorite . . . cupcakes! Some of our celebrations are traditions and some are novel. #COLchat
A3: We use the morning announcements to unveil our Heroes on the Hallway each Wednesday. Ss get a shirt and are entered into a drawing for other incentives for being a positive leader in the building. #COLchat
A4: A portion of the last staff meeting of the year is always designated for #reflection on the accomplishments, unique moments, innovations, etc. of the year. #COLchat
A4: Ss need to recognize when they do positive things to build culture in the school. Allowing them to reflect and identify how they, as an individual, have contributed to the culture, they are celebrating their achievement. #COLchat

A4: Many of the things we value most benefit from examples. Be honest with kids. Ask: Why do you think ______ earned this? Or just be upfront and name what is valued in your class/school and how they demonstrated that. #COLchat
Morrish Elementary staff meeting this morning included teachers sharing “pat on the back” words of gratitude for their colleagues. So important to celebrate the successes of a school year! @swartz_creek
A5: Whenever possible. There is rarely a timetable for celebrations. When a win happens, we might drop everything and have a celebration right there. #COLchat
A4: I think acknowledging the “glows and grows” during celebrations is the best way. Doing this allows people to really reflect on what they want to change and do differently moving for and what they want to remain the same.

A5: We have used @mrronclark_ 's Essential 55 rule about congratulating a classmate for many years now. Often times, Ss will recognize when another has done something worthy of celebration, and they will start the celebration. #COLchat

Emailing Ss on a weekend to congratulate them on something you noticed them doing in class is a big winner in my book. CC: the parents on it so they can add to the celebration. #COLchat
A6: We often fall into the gravitational pull of negativity- need to be intentional in celebrating as a team (positive attitudes = positive environment) #COLchat
A6: Not everyone needs a trophy, but life would be a boring and unfulfilling thing to live if we didn't celebrate our wins, big or small. Gives people a sense of purpose and a drive to continue to take risks. #COLchat

A7: We implemented a new format for our end-of-year 8th Grade Celebration, recognizing each student for their contributions during middle school. It was a huge hit! #COLchat
A7: I take pictures of EVERYTHING we do in my classroom. At the end of the year, I put together a video of it all & include every S. We talk about our successes and how to build on our opportunities. Ss love seeing themselves and conversing about what was done in class. #COLchat

The Ss use it as true reflection and talk about how "hard" the tasks were that we worked on. It gives me feedback to change lesson ideas for the next group. #COLchat
A7: We has to turn in a glow and grow sheet and part of final checkout, but I will use my own journal to look back at and analyze what to keep and what to scrap. I used the journal to capture weekly reflections every Friday this year #COLchat
Although we may have the whole year plotted out, you never know what will come up. I look forward to working with my team to identify the successes along the way. As a team we can hope to identify as many things to celebrate as we can! #COLchat
A8: Keep allowing my Ss to recognize each other in meaningful ways for the wins they experience in their school day. Always ensure Ss voice it strong and empower my Ss to advocate for each other and themselves. #COLchat
