CatholicEdChat is a twitter chat. Topics focus on discussions around educational issues for Catholic Educators and topics beneficial to Catholic Schools. We look forward to continuing to connect Catholic Educators online to discuss education and teaching with faith in our schools. The chat takes place on Saturday mornings. Time 9am EST.
Yeah! Great to see everyone! The first week back after Christmas break must have caused the pause. @ncara will be sending out our questions. #CatholicEdChat
Adam, 5/6 social studies, Mayfield Heights, Ohio! Had one snowfall this year, paid for a snowplow service, no snow since! Best purchase ever??? #catholicedchat
Good morning #CatholicEdChat! Amy from Chicago here. Snow expected soon. I’m an ELA teacher and doctorate student in Curriculum and Instruction at @LoyolaSOE.
Not sure if this is planned part of today’s #catholicedchat but I thought I’d share.
I’ve done some author visits at schools during Catholic Schools Week.
Teachers: have you ever had an author visit your classroom? Want to share your experience with TCT readers? DM us for details. #authorvisit#CatholicSchools
Hey #CatholicEdChat! Julia from a freezing cold NJ! Popping in and out thanks to my own littles. Very excited to talk about Catholic Schools Week with you/steal all your ideas and pretend they were mine 😂
A1: I’m not part of the main committee but our school is very good with listening to the ideas of all the teachers for planning CSW events. #catholicedchat
Q1 looking forward to the theme days one my favorite is our high school kids get to wear their parish shirts. So it’s fun to see our students representing all the schools in our diocese #CatholicEdChat
A1 Yes! I'm excited, I love to share how awesome our school is with the community. The faculty and @mmdetrick collaborate on what activities we will have. #CatholicEdChat
A1: No. Our Spiritual Life Team has an amazing week planned for us, thanks to the leadership of @mrsmthoughts, the department and our student leadership team that they work with. #CatholicEdChat
A1. Looking forward to a new parent coffee during CSW. It will be community building and good feedback for us. A1(2), yes, I’m a planner. #CatholicEdChat
A1. It’s indefinable! I remember looking forward to Catholic Schools Week even as a kid! It’s so special to be able to reflect on and celebrate what makes us so special for a week! Love the idea of community reflection! #CatholicEdChat
A2: I’m excited just for the excitement. Students growing in their friendships, faith, and self-esteem...making our community stronger...is what I’m excited for. #catholicedchat
A2: Not being tied to one school now, I enjoy and appreciate watching and reading the news stories and SM posts of all the ways our students and schools are celebrating their pride for being a member of a Catholic school community! #catholicedchat
I love to see the posts shared about local #philly area schools and schools nationwide on social media during #CSW19 - common mission and bond across schools #catholicedchat@NCEATALK
A2: many of our teachers have their students write notes to a special educator from their past and I love reading what my former students write when I get a letter from one! I’ve seen kids even write to their old pre-k teachers- so nice to see that impact stays! #CatholicEdChat
A2: I’m looking forward to Mass on Sunday to begin #CSW19. Ss from each grade will read a paragraph they’ve written about why they ❤️attending our Catholic school. Starts the week out right! #CatholicEdChat
Hi #CatholicEdChat! Missed this chat--been going to Mass Sat AM but my husband decided to go in my place. I'm Melissa from Atchison, KS. I teach MS SS.
A3 We're focusing on serving this year and hoping to somewhat follow those themes: serving school, parish, community, etc. #catholicedchat#sbcsheartsonfire
Q3 #CatholicEdChat#csw19@NCEATALK Great idea to celebrate students on Tuesday! Host an invention convention where students show off their STREAM skills by showcasing original creations. My students are brainstorming Science Project ideas using LMC digital resources.
A history of time-telling devices; religion lessons in a timeline; comparative counting money on different currencies relevant to your student population #catholicedchat
What a sweet idea! Not to mention a great way to make a writing assignment authentic instead of just a canned writing activity with no real audience.
#CatholicEdChat
A4 We have a tradition of having a pancake breakfast, this yr hosted by our 8th grdrs, open to the parish. We will also plan & serve in all of the litiurgical roles for the 11am Mass that Sunday. I'm super excited for that! #CatholicEdChat#sbcsheartsonfire
A4 We are a consolidated school. Three parishes will host CSW opening masses on Sunday and one parish will close CSW the following week. Parents/families speak at the masses. #catholicedchat
On Monday we have Grandfriends Day complete w prayer service and sing along. That night we have #stream night. Tons of activities and a food truck. It's a big day. Student council themes, fun dress and activities all week. #catholicedchat
Well, I have to go get ready to head to work and prepare for our open house tomorrow! Stay safe in the snow!! As I leave, here’s my CSW reflection that I wrote for @NCEATALKhttps://t.co/7fHi1weVr0#catholicedchat
#catholicedchat A4 parish with 8th grade ministers @ Sunday Mass. Community- raising money for local cerebal palsy group which has a daycare facility and also raise awareness among our students about this population.
Q3 #CatholicEdChat#csw19@NCEATALK Great idea to celebrate students on Tuesday! Host an invention convention where students show off their STREAM skills by showcasing original creations. My students are brainstorming Science Project ideas using LMC digital resources.
A4 For Community we have a "Light Glows Forth" ceremony thanking all who are part of our school from pastors, admin, staff, students, volunteers, PTO, etc. They all light candles one by one to make one light. #catholicedchat
A5: our school devotes the entire first part of one day to a school wide Olympics. I know it’s one of the highlights of the year for my 4th graders. Everyone cheers for each other regardless of team so the kids definitely feel celebrated that day! #CatholicEdChat
A5: we try to make their day fun. We’ve gone to a roller skating rink, we’ve gone to a gymnastics gym, we’ve brought in inflatables, usually we have a teacher swap and do Chick Fil A lunch #CatholicEdChat
We give our Ss a few fun dress-out days, “mixed-up”, “athletics”, and a school spirit dress out. We will play school wide Bingo, Rock Paper Scissors, and SpheroBattle Bot Competitions. 3 of the 5 days have some fun for Ss. #CatholicEdChat
A5: The most anticipated even for Ss during #CSW19 is the 7th vs. 8th volleyball game. Then there’s ice cream and a school-wide rosary in the gym. #CatholicEdChat
I love that the R in #STREAM stands for religion. Reminds me of how @BishopBarron is always discussing how faith and reason go together.
#CatholicEdChat
A4: every day is celebrating an aspect of our community, but some highlights are: letters to parents at drop-off on one day, a gift for the Sisters another, and our Foundress Day liturgy at the end #CatholicEdChat
Q8 - During #CSW19 will your school tell the community about the unique benefits of your school? @nceatalk? #CatholicEdChat Have you seen the infographics and school marketing info shared via @NCEATALK
Last year we did theme hallway door decorating contest - Pick a #CSW18 “day” theme to illustrate #catholicedchat The students and teachers really got into it!
A8: we have an amazing Social Media director here at @heliascatholic Mrs. Hentges does an amazing job promoting our students and school and keeping the community informed. #CatholicEdChat
#catholicedchat A8: thinking about using some marketing wordplay. Like CU@SFX... Each day focuses on a c word, compassion, creativity, confidence, etc.
A6: breakfast for Fac/Staff on Thursday along with thank-you letters written by the Juniors and Seniors (Sophs are writing to friends and Frosh write to parents) #CatholicEdChat
A7: One of my favorite #CSW19 activities has always been our Regional Mass in @archstl to begin the week on Monday. 8th grade Ss from 15-20(?) nearby Catholic schools meet at one school & attend Mass together w/@abp_carlson. #CatholicEdChat
Q9 DID YOU KNOW - there is #CSW19 Day of Giving happening on the 29th https://t.co/Ot5AfAtZYi Schools can customize their page - encouraged to do so by this coming Monday #catholicedchat
Why Catholic education—-> Based on the average public school per pupil cost, Catholic schools save our nation about $21 billion each year. 💰
PLUS Jesus saves our Ss’ souls. #TeachThemToHeaven ✝️ #CathEdSocial

A8 Yes, we will have a student at the end of all the Masses speak about what their Catholic education means to them. Also, I will speak about the school, thank the parish for their support, and introduce the 2nd collection for the school #catholicedchat
A8: definitely my favorite activity is always our Foundress Day mass. We celebrate with our girls, the K-8 community, and the @SNDdeN that live on our shared campus. It is a wonderful celebration of community! #CatholicEdChat
A7 Not sure what day we'll do this this yr, but in the past Ss have called their parents in the middle of the day (sometimes at work) thanking them for sending them to Catholic school. We'll probably do this w prayer partners this yr.
#catholicedchat
The Catholic school my children attend have a parent appreciation too. Parents are given a note and muffin at drop off. Teachers are greeting Ps at their car and deliver a treat. #catholicedchat
