We do have the inimitable CaraJohnson aka @Flip4Students with us tonight so don't be shy to participate, collaborate and question. #flipclasschat#flipclass
Hi! #flipclasschat I'm an instructional specialist and former #flipclass#flippedmastery Biology and Anatomy teacher. I've been flipping for 7 years. I have 2 kids (3rd and 4th grade) and I wished more elementary teachers flipped! I also am triathlete #Swim#Bike#Run
My name is Ashley! I teach 2nd grade--all subjects and I am trying to learn about flipping! Other than being a teacher, I enjoy working out and watching college football! #flipclasschat#flipclass#flipclasschat
Q1 Flipped Class gives teachers the opportunity to create an engaging, and student-centered classroom. Let’s celebrate this! Tell us about an activity, or lesson you do in your flipped class that you weren’t able to do before you flipped.
#flipClassChat#flipclass
#FlipClass I almost forgot to tell you guys about the non teacher stuff! I love to hike, go for walks, and read books. Dystopian young adult novels are a bit of a guilty pleasure.
My name is Shanice Greene and I teach Kindergarten. I haven't flipped yet, but I love the idea of it and would love to try it in my classroom. I also love working out and going to the gym. #flipclass
that is awesome @Mr_WillsClass there are some great resources on tonight. I am following #flipclass but to see the full conversation check out #flipclasschat
A1 allow students to come up with their own questions to drive their learning instead of just giving them questions with an expected answer or an expected output. #FlipClass
Remind me to connect you with the pathophysiology teacher at my school. I think you guys can share a ton of resources with each other. He is #flipclass AND #masterylearning :-)
A1: I haven't flipped, but I can imagine it's a good way to teach comprehension skills. You can have the students watch a video or listen to a PowerPoint about retelling a story and then have them complete a project when they come to class the next day. #flipclass
You have to let go of a little control. Definitely the hardest part of #flipClass BUT when Sput their hands on the learning & have opportunities to ENGAGE in the learning their understanding goes deeper. .
A2: I have taken to adding student creation components to both the learning phase and the assessment phase. this can take a variety of formats but Student presentation and creation is key.

Q3 How do you meet the needs of all the different learners in your classroom? Do you keep everyone on the same pace, or allow for asynchronous pace?
#flipclass#flipclasschat
Love this! I work with a lot of teachers doing this. The key is to create a rubric that assessment their understanding of the concept through any avenue they choose.
A3- some days on the same page, most days it's asynchronous. Luckily I'm not a Type A personality and find beauty in this cacophony of learning styles #flipclass#flipclasschat
Q3 How do you meet the needs of all the different learners in your classroom? Do you keep everyone on the same pace, or allow for asynchronous pace?
#flipclass#flipclasschat
That is true...my students do love choice boards but for small group, I decided what each group does then they switch. I think it would be an easier transition than I think! #flipclass#flipclasschat
That's a good point. The first year I did a #flipclass I had much less variety. With every year that passes I gain more insight, options, and methods. They didn't create Rome in a day! #flippedclasschat
I put the same stuff on both but only the district one is live and public. The other is just in case and has different things one it that pertain to my #flipclass. That one is so old, docs and sheets had individual sign ins. #LearnLAP
I have found interactive learning maps are a great way to bridge between lack of Student self organization or need for constraints and our desire for them to learn individually and independently #flipclass#flipclasschat
More asynchronous but the assessment deadline is still there. If they aren’t ready they take it anyway and can always retake it later for a new grade. #flipclasschat#flipclass
Q3 How do you meet the needs of all the different learners in your classroom? Do you keep everyone on the same pace, or allow for asynchronous pace?
#flipclass#flipclasschat
A3: I try to address the different needs of my learners continuously. I can have two or three different things going on in one station during small group time depending on what the students need. #flipclass
@MickieGibbs2 here is a map I am using this week for graphing lines instruction
pre-skill, student choice order with various skill proof, and summative creation. bvery basic but not a big stretch https://t.co/Li6GSp742p#flipclass#flipclasschat
our entire HS math deptartment shifted to a reassessment model and I am finding a similar thing. the Ss are also seeing how many arithmetic mistakes and reading errors they make #flipclass#flipclasschat
A4 When I gave students the opportunity to retake their assessments for 100%, their questions shifted from "What was my grade on that?" to.... "Why didn't I get this one correct?" and "Can you explain why I got this wrong?" #flipclasschat
Q5: Every educator knows that is can be challenging and sometimes chaotic to meet the unique learning needs of all their students. What are some classroom management strategies you use to manage the chaos of a differentiated, student-centered #flipclasschat classroom? #flipclass
#flipclasschat I'll share the cup strategy again even though most of y'all know it. But it changed how I ran my day-to-day class. Each S has a stack of cups & they would change the color of the cup to communicate what they needed. Yellow = I have a question Red = HELP!!
I have no seating chart as the seats have no permanent placement. seat location should not be an impediment to learning...desks are too easy to move. #flipclass#flipclasschat
BIG thanks to Cara Johnson @Flip4Students for joining us tonight to share. #flipclass#flipclasschat see all of you and more back next monday night. in the meantime don't forget to check the #flipblogs tag and catch up on some great blogs from some of the particpnts and more
