Hello All, Steph Dill - elementary SPED T in Colorado. I had a message until the time of the chat tonight, so I scheduled my responces. I will check back on the chat once I get home. #122edchat
Hey #122edchat! So happy to be here tonight! This is Michael A. in Chicago. @SmartLab_tweets#STEM Facilitator for @Simmonsknights1. May sound cheesy, but YOU ALL light up my evenings. Winter is rough, but I appreciate each one of you for the investments you make in my life.
Hello #122edchat
Melissa, 7th Grade Science T from NY and your moderator tonight.
On these dark winter days I love that my Luminara candles are on timers. I come home to the glow of candlelight every night.
Hey, #122edchat friends! I'm a literacy coach and international literacy consultant based in Tokyo. To light up dark days, I give prayers of thanks. Gratefulness shines so much light!
Hello. My name is Susan, and I am a first year teacher from IL On dark days, I take time to relax and read kind words from my students or former teachers to remind me of my why. #122edchat
Rachel, teacher and tech Integrator from NY. I like to go to the gym or walk. (Although @Math912Teacher will tell you I spend all of my free time designing #hyperdocs) 🤣🤣 #122edchat
Hello, my name is Angie and I'm a 4th grade teacher. On dark days, I love to curl up and read next to my husband and listen to my children laugh and play. #122edchat
That is the best! I love sitting in my Lab, music cranked. Sometimes, after a long day, my kids email me and ask, "Dad, are you coming home?" #122edchat
#122edchat Hello! Kathleen from Illinois. I teach eighth grade special education. On those dark days, I rely on playing music or going to a band rehearsal.
Hello friends, @JamesHeniff checking in. I teach 6th grade science at Simmons Middle School in Oak Lawn, Il. Glad to be here, maybe this is how I light up the darkness. #122edchat
Helllooooooo! Kristen here from PA. I teach 6th grade science and today someone put THIS on my desk... soooo. I guess now you can call me a weather girl too... and you bet your bottom dollar I spent all day staring at it, praying for snow.... #122edchat
I want to shine a light on our SSR program. I am continually trying to improve it with some direction for the students and staff along with new books to add to their collection. #122edchat
Hello! Destiny Huggins, Houston TX teaching curious 5th graders science and social studies. I love listening to electronic music and meditation. #122edchat
A1 #122edchat
I really want to work hard for the rest of the year to refocus my efforts on increasing reflection in the classroom. I do it every week already, but I need to do more to make it purposeful and meaningful
A1: I would shine a light on our school culture, we are working as a whole to improve upon our 5 stances through Mindset for Learning. January is a foucs on empathy. We've created a tree and given cut out leaves to Ts in order to write how others show the stances. #122edchat
A1: Improving students' tech skills has been a massive goal of mine this year, despite it also being part of my curriculum. Our Ss are late to the 1:1 game, and I've seen too many gaps in their skills because of it. #122edchat
Becki from Rochester, NY. Intermediate librarian. I actually go to trampoline fitness class twice per week to survive the western NY winters. #122edchat
A1: Feeling alone. In the past, I was able to visit classrooms and interact w/other staff, but now that I'm in the Lab, I am essentially on an island. I see the same handful of people each day, and it bums me out. I would like to build more Lab > Classroom connections. #122edchat
A1: I want to shine a light on honoring teacher agency. While we are thankfully growing in honoring learner agency, teacher agency is often overlooked or even ignored.
You cannot truly honor learner agency without also honoring teacher agency.
#122edchathttps://t.co/7eSewN86cZ
A1: My school is undergoing a big culture change with our new principal. Risk taking and innovation are supported and highlighted. #growthmindset is evident throughout the building. #122edchat
A1: A lot of students still have trouble reading and writing effectively. Before we add tech or gamification or whatever, we should remember this fact! #122edchat
Hey #122EdChat, Jessica here, from TX - 5th grade ELAR teacher. I light up the dark days by being okay with the darkness. I know that life still can be found in the darkness. It’s the reason I have my owl tattoo to remind me of this.
A1: working on asking more questions than answering them so ss see me as a facilitator and their peers as experts rather than seeing me as the keeper of the knowledge. #122edchat
A1: I would like to shed light on my reluctant readers. Even though we read every day in class, I still have Ss who just go through the motions. : ( #122edchat
A1: I came in with one rule. Be kind. I haven't be on my kids about being kind lately ; however I want to do something daily about being kind.
#122edchat#goforitLK8
A1) I want to shine a light on our restorative practices work so that we continue learning, practicing and working toward a restorative culture. #122edchat
A1: this year I want to shine a light on better teacher – parent communication. I want to better equip my students' parents to help me teach Spanish to their kids. #122edchat
A1 I would love to work on consistency. Not everyone doing the same thing always, but just making somethings consistent. As we add more tech, we add more communication - but Ps and Ss need some streamlining. #122edchat
A1: I want the Diversity Club that I co-advise to shine a light on groups of individuals who are looked at as minorities and learn more about them and how to be accepting of one another! #122edchat
A1 I’m excited by the idea of going grade less! I’ll also say my yours of some schools and my Canadian friends are showing me the issues with ease consistency; 80 = A...?!?!! Regardless of where we stand on it, the inconsistency is an issue #122edchat
A1 One goal I continue to have is to look at the typical things I do through a different lens - and see what I can to spark them up a bit. #122edchat@MrsAsztalos
A1: I want to really focus on what my 2nd graders need to be successful in 3rd grade next year. I have amazing readers and writers. I want to make sure their comprehension and vocabulary skills are strong as well as their paragraph writing skills. #122edchat
#122edchat
A1: Been working with schools in Asia to really empower kids to lead. We've recently had students run professional learning around #TeachSDGs for adults: educators, parents, admin folks and it's going splendidly in helping show how SDGs link deeply to curriculum
I like to shine a light on the student creation that is going on. For example, we broadcast our portfolio presentations on Periscope. Had over 400 views in two days! #122edchat
A1. I would love to incorporate more student reflection. I have provided journals for students so they can just write their own thoughts down but I would love to know where they are at too so I could best help them. #122edchat
A1~
~continue to shine a light on the importance of focusing on supporting those hard to reach Ss by using words & actions that shout out 2nd chances are welcome here !!!
#122edchat
A1. It's been a rough year. 4th principal since August. Love the one we have now. Really focused on changing the school culture and adding stability. Love first. Teach second. #122edchat
A1: My students are very kind. A few days ago, my Ss wrote cards to our music teacher because she was going through a lot. She thanked my students, and it was evident that it meant a lot to her. I want to continue to find ways for them to spread kindness. #122edchat
#122edchat A1: Since we have gone 1:1 this year, I am working on pulling more technology opportunities into my class. My students are really enjoying breakouts/escape rooms/combination of both and are willing to read and do so much more than in the past to be successful!
Hello friends, @JamesHeniff checking in. I teach 6th grade science at Simmons Middle School in Oak Lawn, Il. Glad to be here, maybe this is how I light up the darkness. #122edchat
Yes! I tell kids that my one rule is to be good to each other. Meanness is not tolerated. But I feel the same - need to be more proactive about encouraging kindness instead of having it just be a passive "rule." #122edchat
A1: I want to be more dynamic and engaging, so I need to keep learning and implementing best practices. This will help students want to invest in my class and the school. Be the change...
#122edchat
A1: this year I’ve been shining a light on Ss being leaders - helping each other, cleaning up, complimenting each other. I like that community feel in the classroom. #122edchat
I would like to shine a light on re-engaging our inner learners. We get so focused on making sure that the students are learning that we often neglect our inner learner. #122edchat
A1: I want to keep momentum going with service learning and getting kids involved in civics. When kids get involved with their community it transforms their learning. #122edchat
A1: I want to shine the light on focusing on teaching first... technology can be BEAUTIFUL but we have to have the purpose of "why" are we using it? What are the students getting out of it? #122edchat
A2 #122edchat
I am hoping to start presenting my work on reflection, goal setting and growth mindset at conferences. Submitted my first proposal to #AMLE18, so fingers crossed!
A1 One goal I continue to have is to look at the typical things I do through a different lens - and see what I can to spark them up a bit. #122edchat@MrsAsztalos
#122edchat Crikey it's warm and it's only noon in #Melbourne. For those of you feeling chilly, this should make you feel warmer. Heulwen here teacher of all sorts of random things.
A2: I have 10 new teachers in my building this year so I am fanning the flame of doing what it takes to keep them afloat and successful. I want them to feel good about what they are doing and how they are impacting kids. coaches, mentors, readings, collaboration #122edchat
A1: I try to instill this message in my students, it's better to fix a problem, than to point the blame. It's a little bit harder with adults :-) #122edchat
A2: I hope to connect with and teach with at least one teacher I've never had the privileged of doing so with! From there I hope we'll both share and encourage others!
#122edchat
A2: We have so many talented Ss w/incredible passions & expertise, but are we getting the most of their abilities? I would love to develop a "Tech Sherpa" program for Ss to be the first line of defense for tech problems. Might alleviate stress on our technicians. #122edchat
A2: In the coming academic year, I will move full-time into my work as an international literacy consultant. I am so excited to continue growing and learning with incredible educators around the world!
#122edchathttps://t.co/ZIO6HKUldP
A1: I am still working hard to implement Reader/Writer Workshop model consistently. Creating enough choice tied to the standards & varying Ss levels while still finding time to conference is a challenge. At times I feel like we progress like a car that got bad gas! 🤣 #122edchat
A2: I am hoping to continue seeing Ts continue to use tools, ideas, apps after we work together. This tells me that what we worked on was relevant and stuck. #122edchat.
A1. I want to continue to grow as an instructional leader. I have worked through a lot of culture and climate improvements and gotten our RtI process in a good shape. Now to reach and stretch myself and our teachers!
#122edchat
A2: I want to move in to more of a self paced classroom. One move would work the grid method. #TeachBetter I want to challenge some kids and continually work with some kids. #122edchat
Wow. 4th principal? That's madness. However, it sounds like this leader has the right mindset. Very @eduprotocols...relationships first, curriculum second. Be sure to check in next week as @jcorippo and @mhebern lead #122edchat.
In reply to
@TheStephenKeys, @eduprotocols, @jcorippo, @mhebern
I've constructed it off of visions, passions, needs of my school, and what neighboring schools have done! Message me and I'll get you some resources I use! #122edchat
My goal this year is to go to a conference, EdCamp session, or spend time with @mrchemgeek@senortaylor2@BarbTasber that gives me a learning concussion. I want to be the person in the room that looks up and says what just happened? I LOVE learning! #122edchat
A1b:need to sing more. I sang a lot at the beginning of year. You could hear me on other side of the school apparently. crutching around has gotten the best of me. People tell me they miss me and singing. Working on my repertoire now as well as 2nd sem. shenanigans. #122edchat
"Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared."
~ Buddha
Question #3 will be up in 1 minute!
#122edchat
A2: a goal I wrote down at the beginning of the year was finding consistency with teaching and I have found consistency with using #eduprotocols week to week. Ss are using the 4c’s on a regular basis. #122edchat
A2: Just holding my breath for my passion projects. I will never stop trying, but man.... the first time doing anything, especially this risky is tough!!! #122edchat
Hey friend! So glad to be chatting with you tonight! You are spot on with this mindset, Sarah. We need to ask is it best for Ss, then be willing to take the leap if the answer is YES. #122edchat
A1 Kinda going with my #1 answer....getting other teachers to embrace Google (Classroom). Personally I’m working on Google Certification and a few other projects. Gotta nail down some time with myself. #122edchat
A2 I'm hoping to create a primary model classroom to join our intermediate, MS, & HS rooms so teachers can visit and see how a teacher plans through an equitable eye with everything #122edchat
A2: That many of us come from different places, can speak different languages, have different academic abilities but we don't find out these things unless we start talking&understanding that our differences don't have 2 be negative no matter what is portrayed in media! #122edchat
A2: My goal is to cultivate a growth mindset. I have a growth mindset bulletin board, and I really want my Ss to realize that we are all learning. I tell my Ss that F.A.I.L means first attempt in learning. #122edchat
A2. I have ideas to connect my sixth graders with older students AND younger students. I think it’s a great way to grow a stronger school/program community. #122edchat
A3 #122edchat
Talk about it at meetings and in the lunch room, take pictures for your school newsletter, post with school social media tags, empower students to share it as well. You want to write the narrative, or someone else will.
A3: Right now, the development of the lab has not included anyone in the community besides administration and myself. Hoping to get our art teacher involved in training to go from STEM to STEAM, & I have future plans to include all science teachers as well! #122edchat
A2: I've been sparking community involvement & authentic audience. This year I've grown it so that the students expect it. "Who will be seeing this? Who's coming to help?" In order to get learning in, we've got to the kiddos out... digitally, literally, or virtually! #122edchat
#122edchat a1 I've learnt how important it is to have quiet thinking moments in the day. I'm going to work on making that happen when I get my classroom and extend beyond the 4 walls.
A2: My goal is to cultivate a growth mindset. I have a growth mindset bulletin board, and I really want my Ss to realize that we are all learning. I tell my Ss that F.A.I.L means first attempt in learning. #122edchat
Students sharing ideas from one class to another is a great way. I also use Smore as a tech tip newsletter but and my blog https://t.co/I9FITIR1Ki#122edchat
A3: I have built the case that a "Tech Sherpa" program would alleviate pressure on technicians, but more importantly, would build confidence in our middle school Ss, helping them to realize their voice matters and has power. Now, it's finding the right ear to bend. #122edchat
A3: My goal is something I share often but I need to do a better job of reaching out to all teachers. Spreading it will be done through stepping up my sharing of resources and direct contact.
#122edchat
A3:
We can spread our ideas to others in our school communities to create more light by forming genuine relationships.
Talk with others.
LISTEN to others.
Share your ideas.
Stay open-minded.
Grow and learn together.
#122edchat
A2 You know, I listened to our SCA bat around ideas today and was so impressed by their thoughts and insight into our climate that my teammate and I are hoping to help them learn the power of and how to use and magnify their voice. Our kids are MIGHTY! #122edchat
A2: I'm trying to ruthlessly cut out anything in my class that doesn't help my Ss to become better readers, writers, thinkers, speakers, and people. #122edchat
A2~
~stressing the importance of friendships, focusing on the positive & Ss being okay W/risk taking & owning their mistakes & knowing how to move on with confidence, dignity & acceptance 😊
#122edchat
#122edchat A3: Toss ideas out on Twitter is a way to start. Continue to reach out to colleagues in my building and in the elementary buildings in by district.
A2 One goal is to look w/ kindergartners at student-led conferences to see what they really value sharing w/ their families. Today when I introduced the concept, they literally cheered! Although I love what we do now, I want their ideas to take precedence. #122edchat@MrsAsztalos
A3: After seeing the consistency week to week and finding ways to use #eduprotocols with some of my best lessons - I have become passionate in speaking about and sharing with others through Twitter. #122edchat
A3: I don’t get to share with ppl in my community as much, but I’m getting to share more with Ts across the state, thanks to @japhillips0722 and #coffeeEDU#122edchat
A3. I am filled with new ideas! But sometimes it’s difficult to share them with others who are so set in their ways. I think I need to start small and share simple ways for our students to connect that wouldn’t overwhelm them. #122edchat
#122edchat
A2: This year is about working to help T/Ss take risks to look at how "good for all and sustainable development" can be a school mission first, while including academic and other holistic pathways to attain this goal. I'll be keeping tabs here: https://t.co/se24QaQ0Up
"There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it."
~ Edith Wharton
Question #4 will be up in 1 minute!
#122edchat
A2: I haven't given up on #learnlap. It's a work in progress, but I won't give up on the idea that my students will enjoy learning more if they are in control. #122edchat
Still figuring that out this year. #AMLE18 is the first one I applied. I don't really know about too many others yet. I plan to search twitter a lot #122edchat
A3.
Our school was recently aired on KET, Ky Educational Televison for our work on trauma informed care in our school. I would love for all of you to watch and give me feedback.
And ask for direction in setting this up for your students!
#122edchat
A3: Sharing/spreading my goal to the school is something my club works on weekly. It's challenging b/c they're preteens/teens & have different ways of being interested in something. Engagement is hard at times when it pertains to diversity topics #122edchat
Come on! Modeling choice at the collegiate level! YES! Imagine what those seeds of discovery will look like when they bloom in classrooms in the years to come? Go you! #122edchat
A3: I have been spreading growth mindset to my Ss, but I want to continue to spread the message. I feel like all teachers at my school are positive, but I want to introduce them to @joboaler and her work. #122edchat
A4: Greet every student at the door in the morning for homeroom and for each of my classes. I try to be in the hallway as much as possible to make contact with Ss for those all-important connections. #122edchat
A4 #122edchat
The Math T on my team does a great job of reminding us to focus on what is going well and the kids who are rocking it. Don't always be the T complaining or counting down, be the one making the days count!
A4: Last year we had a Sunshine jar and at the end of staff meetings we would share positives about Ts and Ss and put a $1 in the jar. The money was used at the end of the year for our staff party. We need to work to get back to this weekly. #122edchat
A3: I am doing a morning session for staff about my journey with my students on the road towards Self-Regulation and student owned classrooms. #122edchat
A3: Gary, former supt from Illinois, now a supporter of Ts in CHARACTER COUNTS. In a project with 22 Buffalo PS, we coordinate an every other month meeting of a lead character T from each school to meet and share implementation ideas & PD #122edchat
YES! Go you! Always learning. Always growing. Being here tonight is the best way to stay connected and keep your blade sharp. Proud of you, Amanda! #122edchat
My students held a Twitter chat using #positivelykind and one using #positivestart. They were student created, student moderated and student led. It was awesome! #122edchat
A4: I listen. I ask questions. I observe when things don't look right, then press in to see what is going on below the surface. I value relationships with staff and Ss. I encourage people to dream bigger than their current surroundings and then help them to live it. #122edchat
A4:
To spread and reflect positivity and light to other teachers and students we can radiate our own light.
Smile.
Ask how others are doing.
Listen.
Check-in and follow-up.
Be compassionate.
Be grateful.
Be joyful.
#122edchat
A4: I constant praise Ss and Ts throughout all schools I work with. I acknowledge big leaps and small victories.
I'm there with a joke, uplifting story, or just an un-judging ear whenever I can.
#122edchat
A3 I'm grateful to live & work in a place where kid & T ideas are valued. My dear colleague & I are taking on this challenge of revamping stud-led conferences together. Scaffolding kindergartners as they share w/ parents will truly light up all our lives! #122edchat@MrsAsztalos
A3: I’m pretty good at posting to my “teacher twitter account,” which makes me ask... do the rest of you have 2 accounts or just one? I figure with all the chatting I do, parents and ss don’t need to see 25 tweets a night from me... 😂😂😂#122edchat
#122edchat a2 A mate brought these eggs back from Texas. I'd like to use them with my students to make question for Scavenger Hunts and get us outside more often.
#games4ed#brain break but fun learning
Have you shared any of that with #4OCFpln? I'm sorry if I have missed it. I feel like I am being pulled in 12 different directions recently. Trying my best to keep up. #122edchat
My students held a Twitter chat using #positivelykind and one using #positivestart. They were student created, student moderated and student led. It was awesome! #122edchat
A4: one thing I do is try new things. I'm pretty fearless in the classroom. If there is something I want to try, I do it. What's the worst that is going to happen?
#122edchat
A4: I give my Ss kindness challenges where they have to write notes to other faculty members. I love seeing how much work they put in and the reactions that teachers have after reading the notes. #122edchat
#122edchat I agree. Loving something so full of life changing opportunities as reading and seeing someone not yet connected is a challenge. Always looking for ways to engage Ss.
A3 We are working on strengthening their voices through class meetings. I'm hoping we can use our SCA to help spread the word as they learn how. As for closing cracks, I'm speaking up and questioning more this year. I'm learning.
A4
Work morning drop off line every day and Welcome all parents and students! Morning rounds to say hello in all classrooms and ask how I can help or what's needed. Gratitude grams... randomly passed into mailboxes for staff to complete, share with other staffers.
#122edchat
A4: One of my favorite ways to spread positivity/light happens when the class earns a full class reward, like donuts. I always bring a few extras, and give students the opportunity to deliver them to teachers they're grateful for -- and they tell them with the treat! #122edchat
"Do not worry if all the candles in the world flicker and die. We have the spark that starts the fire."
~ Rumi
Question #5 will be up in 1 minute!
#122edchat
A mentor once told me that you should take risks. We are not brain surgeons, so calculated risks are not dangerous and can be very rewarding! #122edchat
How ARE things going in your new role, Stella? I'm being serious... you're my buddy. I feel like it has been a month of Sundays since I have heard from you. #122edchat
A4: I try to continually share the great things that are happening in the classrooms in my school. I love talking about learning with my Ts. #122edchat
A4~
~try to be kind in my interactions
~do not engage in negative banter (this is SO upsetting to me)
~smile a lot
~love my Ss unconditionally ❤️❤️❤️
#122edchat
Super busy. More tired than everrrr! But I am loving it. The teachers in our district are awesome and I am enjoying getting into all 14 of our schools to help. #122edchat
#122edchat A1 We have monthly mixed K-5 "families" during our morning meeting time. I would like to have one microloan a month funded so throughout the year the building votes on 3 candidates and chooses a loan together. https://t.co/CwTOnlkuZz
A4: I think sometimes it's better to be the mirror and reflect all the good things that others are doing. Give a louder voice for those who may not have one. #122edchat
YES. Always, ALWAYS get those big kids looking out for the littles. That is a powerful combination. Great learning experiences and teachable moments on all fronts. Kudos to you, kid. #122edchat
#122edchat
a4
Build a culture of co-facilitation.
Let observable student learning and engagement be the prize and the light.
I love "leading" initiatives but it can't be about me.
#BetterTogether
A4: As a school, I don't think we do enough activities that strike MS Ss interests. Many of the activities we do are elementary and these are requested by a specific group of teachers to do weekly/monthly #122edchat
A4: I #CelebrateMonday by shining light on the hard work of my peers and the Ss I serve. Each Monday, I dress up for morning drop off, leave treats in the lounge, and celebrate my VIYs (Very Important Yellowjacket). #122EdChat
A5: I'm fortunate to have access to the best in education nightly. Grateful for @khoggardGRT, @CristinaDajero, @megan_hacholski, & @MrPStrunk who have the power to pick me up when I am scrambling to survive. They find the good in all situations and help me celebrate. #122edchat
A5: When my flame starts to go out I take time for me by going for a hike or being creative and sewing. Both such different activities, yet help me to reignite my soul. #122edchat
A5: When I sense my energy flame beginning to dim, I unplug from the tech side of things and re-plug into the in-person connections of friends and family.
We must take time to take care of ourselves and truly be there, undistracted, in important moments.
#122edchat
A5 #122edchat
I rewatch my all time favorite Ted Talk! She gives me life every time I watch it. If you haven't seen it, do it now!!!! You won't regret it.
A4 I share out all the great things I see through my Friday focus, twitter, and Instagram. I also encourage staff to get in one another’s rooms when I see great things happening! . #122edchat
A4 I build community through my relationships with my kids and coworkers. I seek help and also try to give help. We have class meetings and we do some RAKs. It's great when you notice them helping because it becomes norm as opposed to an adult telling them to help. #122edchat
#122edchat A1 the other idea is to create small non-huge commitment (time wise) ways to leverage connections on Twitter. My first idea was this week for social studies: https://t.co/gfIcerVgNd
A5: I try to learn something new. Learning keeps me interested and keeps me going. It is what motivates me. Oh and running. Have I mentioned that I am obsessed with running? #122edchat
A5: I reach out to others I trust for that extra boost, a little meditation, some self-care, and a visit to my folder of sweet words from my former students. #122edchat
Go for a walk, go to the gym, make sure that I spend winter break and spring break in Florida on the beach and every single day that Mother Nature allows on the boat in the summer. The water calms and refreshes my soul. #122edchat
Wait! #122edchat is over? How can that be? Such a great discussion going on here once again this evening! Great work, crew. And how about our hostess with the mostess, @MrsAsztalos? Grateful for your voice and leadership in our lives! If you haven't done so, get connected!
A4: I tout the benefits of learning from experts in the field via @Twitter ; I encourage my students to let others know of their learning via @Twitter and blogging. #122edchat#troll209
YOU, Stella Pollard, are the right person for that job! Igniting fires everywhere she goes. So happy that you are loving what you are doing. #122edchat
A5.
I have been journaling to better track my days. I start with quotes, grateful fors. I am learning how to give myself grace, like I do freely with everyone else. I have a support system that I have learned to lean into. Step away, tomorrow will be better.
#122edchat
#122edchat a4 Had this great cadre of students archiving and putting up displays. It was a way of showing value of other groups. Would like to extend that maybe like with shelfie selfies.
A5: My go to is speaking with my significant other who is not in education & therefore no ability to take sides. He always hears what I have to say while offering others' perspectives & ways to go about getting through the exhaustion #122edchat
A5: I go back to my WHY. Why am I here? I'm here because we have the incredible opportunity to make a positive difference on the futures of children. Then I start to get FIRED UP again. Self care is really important too. Good food, good sleep, etc. #122edchat
Wait! #122edchat is over? How can that be? Such a great discussion going on here once again this evening! Great work, crew. And how about our hostess with the mostess, @MrsAsztalos? Grateful for your voice and leadership in our lives! If you haven't done so, get connected!
#122edchat This is great--there are always discussions of "screen time" the real issue is are the Ss creating or consuming. Empowered and engaged means creating and learning.
A5: In all honesty, when my flame grows weak or goes out, I say a prayer so God reminds me why I'm doing this. That always gets the fire going. #122edchat
#122edchat A5: Read for fun and make something. I always seem to have many unfinished projects sitting around waiting for the need for a creative outlet! Plus, there is nothing like using power tools or learning a new instrument or song on an instrument to reignite the spark!

Work can be consuming (love it) but I need to turn off and recharge daily. Twitter community is incredible but my little one keeps me grounded and inspired. We #teachSDGs for our students, kids, and the future. It keeps me going every day.
A5: Journal. Listen to my favorite Spotify playlist. Get a pint of @eatenlightened. Plug into other passionate, innovative educators in my school. #122edchat
A4. As simple as it may be, I always start the morning with music. Those passing my room sometimes peek their head in to listen. But my students enter and know they’re in a calm and welcoming environment. #122edchat
Q5: @Twitter has become my goto resource for finding inspiration, especially when I see students or former students like @MissKasprzak spreading inspiration.
A4 We are the keepers of the Storybook Garden. We do our best to maintain it - & invite others often to share the wildlife & our fav books with us. #122edchat@MrsAsztalos
A5: Assoicate with positive people and turn away from the CAVE people (Colleagues Against Every Thing) Then model positivity. Staff will see your example – positive or negative – as a pattern for the way life is to be #122edchat
A3: We have a pretty great pineapple chart and observation program. Even if I don't have time to visit in person, I get to see and share the big ideas in our building! #122edchat
A5 #122edchat I have advised all of my St Ts to start keeping those small unexpected kind things kids, Ps, and colleagues send/give you. Some days you pull that pile out and get perspective.
A5. Lately my flame has been dim so I’ve been trying to think of the bigger picture. That’s why I’m so grateful for all the ideas and support that twitter brings. #122edchat
A5: I tell people I’ve lost spark. they pick me up, put me back on my feet. (Sometimes literally.) they make me laugh, distract me with shenanigans, etc. I’m lucky to have many people I can just be me around. I don’t have to hide that 17 wks of crutches is killing me.#122edchat
A5 When my flame's burning low, I just pick up a favorite book - or a jewel or two - and join a friend! My littles help me remember my purpose! Keep the big picture. #122edchat@MrsAsztalos
A5: I like to take part in Twitter chats to find positivity and I like to blog and reflect on my teaching. I just completed a new post last night..... #122edchathttps://t.co/wVn8BNNRvf
#122edchat a5 When my flame went out I didn't deal well but luckily mates reached back. So now I know texts, tweets, loaning books, quick #coffee, all of these can help keep or reignite flame once more. Reading Becoming has really been good and reaching back to friends now.
I simply adored all your connections to light tonight. You definitely helped me remember who I am - and think about reflecting that light again tomorrow morning. Thank you so much! #122edchat
Reflection is a big key to students taking ownership. I created a learning journal for them to do their reflections every friday and goal setting. I am always trying to do more. I agree that they need to do more than just write things down. #122edchat
Don't let anyone put out your fire. I'm telling you that right now...Find your crew and let them care for those ideas you have cooking inside of your heart. Don't dumb down what you dream to do. #122edchat
Yep! I started adding passwords, a kind of one word challenge, or "this or that". They tell me the voice level expectation and "sweet or salty" or the best thing they ate on the weekend. It starts the class off with a positive interaction. #edchat#engagechat#122edchat
This is a great practice! I have a desk drawer full of amazing notes, letters, and encouragements. I have heard of people writing to themselves and hiding them in their desks for "rainy days". #122edchat
A3: Self efficacy has a .92 effect size. Belief in setting goals matters. We need to model and practice setting smaller goals as a class. Using gradual release we can empower Ss to set & reach goals. #LeadChangeEd#leadered#122edchat#AODL Love Hattie: https://t.co/oSJ7Lc3GjR
A2 set a stopwatch when giving a lesson or demonstrating a skill. When timer goes off, they have to collaborate with peers or figure it out individually. #122edchat
A2: I feel the best way to help students look for serendipitous moments is teaching and reminding them that there's not often one way to find an answer. #122edchat
