A1: To me, collaboration is working together to achieve a common goal. An example can be to figure out how to work out a solution to an issue. #learnlap
A1: I’ve spent years studying PLCs, but what I’ve learned is that if Ts and Ss don’t see value in it, collaboration will never happen. We end up having coblaberatoon. The real ? Is how do we help others see the value in collaboration? #LearnLAP#principalsinaction
Collaboration- discussing, working with others toward a common goal; collaborate with a colleague on lessons/planning/reflecting; collaborate with other Ts in school on clubs and school wide activities #learnlap
Collaboration in my class means students supporting each other, pushing each other to think differently and more deeply, and inspiring each other by setting positive examples. https://t.co/y2kYJvCFCc#learnlap
Collaboration is working together to produce a result greater than one could produce alone. My students collaborate in Google slides regularly! #learnlap

Hey #LearnLap, sorry for the late start… I am excited to be with you guys tonight.
A1) Collaboration and teamwork go hand in hand. When you stop to listen and learn from others, every has the opportunity to grow and show their full potential, both as educators and students. #learnlap
#LearnLAP Def: to come together in a discussion for the betterment pf all parties involved.
Ex: Kdg. teachers formally meet once a week, during plan, to talk about students and data.

Cannot stay, but just wanted to say...
#OneWord2018 = Meraki
*meraki [may-rah-kee] (adj): Doing something with passion, soul, creativity, or love — when you put "something of yourself" into what you're doing.
~from Paul & co @ the CoreAtlas Project
Happy New Year ☠ #LearnLAP 🎆
Word #1
Ex—My 6th graders retelling folk tales through a series of tableaux. They must decide togetherness to tell the story through frozen action. #learnlap
A1 Collaboration is often shortchanged for mere cooperation. I only have my Ss work in partners or groups when the task necessitates true collaboration. If it can be done independently, then I don’t use groups for that particular task. #learnlap
A1: Cooperation and collaboration...distinction to be made here...collaboration goes beyond getting along, working toward a goal...collaboration is about ‘getting messy’ together. #learnlap
A2: Taking the time to look back over a period of time to see what works well and what needs tweaked. Always knowing that there’s room for growth and being able to receive/give feedback. #learnlap
You have to be open to learning from someone and knowing that part of beconnng a better educator is to gain knowledge from those around you. #growthmindset#neverstoplearning#learnlap
Example of collaboration- making our Mock Newbery club the best is can be this year by meeting throughout with teacher moderators to discuss progress and book lists. #learnlap
I’m not much of cold weather person. I suffer from cluster headaches. Going on day 5 of a headache because of the weather. So not cool. 🤦🏽♀️ Happy New Year Alana! 💕 #LearnLAP
A2 The process of looking backwards to assess what you did well, not so well, and what do do about it. I try to do this all the time, and all my Ss do a weekly reflection. #LearnLAP
A2: For students there was almost a daily @Flipgrid and I used a note from @ramusallam and started a microblog to put our daily activities in a Spreadsheet that allowed us to reflect and learn. #learnlap
A2: Reflection is thinking about where you are and getting to where you want to go. An example is making a blog just like what I am doing to reflect on my student teaching experience. #learnlaphttps://t.co/psAUreV586
A2. An important part of the process for teachers, students, admin- thinking about goals, checking in on them, tweaking as necessary, asking important questions and planning for the future. #LearnLAP
A2: reflection is the process we as teachers use to help our students get better. Also a tool for students to learn from in order to succeed #learnlap#edugladiators#edchat
Ok, that was just a joke, science definition.
Taking a good look in the "mirror", seeing yourself critically, but fairly.
Example: That didn't go as well as it could have--I could have . . .instead, but this went well
#learnlap How can I make it better?
2) Reflection is evaluating something you created... a lot harder to do accurately than evaluating others. Reflection always has a bias. Reflection requires light. Find a light to help you grow. #learnlap
This is a key skill and one I have had to work on heavily being a talker. Many books and Tedtalks have helped me along the way, I will always have to aggressivly work on this.
#learnlap
A2: true reflection should be daily. When we take time to truly reflect we explore our strengths & weaknesses. Everyday before I leave school I ask myself did I do what was best for kids and did I impact atleast 1 life.
#learnlap
Reflection: something I've been doing a lot as I work on my National Boards. Trying to find the line between reflection and ruminating. Think I over-ruminate about my lessons and my kids. #learnlap
A2: We skip this step with Ss far too often. Why do we “grade” papers? It appears just for the score. What if instead Ss were asked to reflect on their own learning and judge their own progress, correcting their mistakes along the way? #LearnLAP
A2 Reflection is vital for teacher and student alike. The best part of reflection? Taking a pause, taking a break, refocusing, and refining. I teach my Ss to value slowing down and thinking deeply. #learnlap
A1 Collaboration is often shortchanged for mere cooperation. I only have my Ss work in partners or groups when the task necessitates true collaboration. If it can be done independently, then I don’t use groups for that particular task. #learnlap
A2 making sure Ss learn to reflect as well and see where they need to work/can share strengths with others - make Ss feel a part of the learning #learnlap
reflection=time to pause, tinker, refine, assess, and sometimes just breathe it in, allows one to hold the mirror up and inspect one's practice and refocus on "why" if needed and also recharged us...balance. pause and pray #learnlap
Word #2
Reflection—Thoughtfully looking at the strengths, weaknesses, stories created, a-ha moments learned through an activity—professionally, educationally, whatever. #learnlap
A2: Reflection - what did I do right and need to keep doing? What do I need to improve upon and either stop doing or start doing something different? #learnlap
reflection=time to pause, tinker, refine, assess, and sometimes just breathe it in, allows one to hold the mirror up and inspect one's practice and refocus on "why" if needed and also recharged us...balance. pause and pray #learnlap
A2) Reflection allows you the opportunity to strengthen your craft by evaluating what works, what doesn't work and what your student's most benefit from while with you in class. #learnlap
A2 Reflection, because it happens at the end, often gets short shrift. Either always make time for it or (better) teach the importance of reflection so that students do it on their own. #LearnLAP
A2 Reflection leads to greater understandings of the why & the how things are working/going. It allows educators to truly grow and improve upon their practice. #learnlap
A2: Reflection - what did I do right and need to keep doing? What do I need to improve upon and either stop doing or start doing something different? #learnlap
A2. Reflection is intentionally pausing to look for improvements in practice by analysing what I have previously done. Often blog post, video recording and other reading will help #learnlap
W2: Reflection is how you see the “man in the mirror” you can’t make a change without facing him/her. Powerful and something we all should face regularly if we want to improve #LearnLap
Always share my reflections with Ss so they see the importance. Tell my afternoon class how I made changes to my lesson from the morning based on results #learnlap
Without reflection, there is no growth as an educator. Not for you and definitely not for your students. It's critical to take time to think about what we do each day as educators. #learnlap
A2.Our pupils forget most of what we teach them. They will however remember us their teachers forever.Lets be good and kind to them.A kind word lasts a lifetime #LearnLAP
Reflection: to look back up and evaluate, notice, think upon. My students take time for reflection after an investigation or activity. A normal reflection prompt might be, “what did you notice?” #learnlap
A2: Reflection examples...adjusting lesson plans based on recently discovered learning needs, changing instructional practice due to ‘lessons learned’. #learnlap
Communication: Web, email, talking, verbal and non-verbal. The interactions we have with one another and with our Ss. Dialogue is key for student growth and understanding. Getting them to talk and reason is essential for growth #learnlap
W3: Communication is a tool that unlocks understand. Helping students see that there are so many ways we communicate: Nonverbal: Empathy, to Visual arts… Communication takes all forms and each has +s and -s #LearnLap
Without reflection, there is no growth as an educator. Not for you and definitely not for your students. It's critical to take time to think about what we do each day as educators. #learnlap
A1: Cooperation and collaboration...distinction to be made here...collaboration goes beyond getting along, working toward a goal...collaboration is about ‘getting messy’ together. #learnlap
A3: communication is what our world is all about. Multiple forms of communication today we must expose and teach our students about in order to be successful #learnlap#edugladiators#edchat
A2: True reflection requires you to step outside of your context and your comfort zone. It also requires empathy to see yourself through the eyes of others. #learnlap
I'm late but here and so ready to go back to school tomorrow!! I reflect daily, sometimes hourly. The most important thing I've learned is that when the reflection makes me squirm.. I've really found a pocket for growth! #learnlap
A2: I used to ask my students what I can do to improve on google forms. It was a great way for me to improve especially as a pre-service teacher. #learnlap
A3. Now >this< one has so many darn examples of purposes of communicating and the why behind it - amazing! Great conversation starter with students could result from this. #learnlap
W3: Communication is something we work on in advisory with our students. Try to teach empathy and the power of non-verbal communication. Often overlooked but so important. #learnLap
A1. Growing involves learning and listening along with collaboration. Reflecting daily upon these skills and how we can contribute and apply meaning. #learnlap
A3: multifaceted and multilayered process of sending and receiving information...if we only send we are missing a HUGE part!! also a facilitation of understanding... #learnlap
Word 3. Verbal and nonverbal cues we give eachother to move toward a common goal. Key to success and always important to have trust and relationships along with it. #LearnLAP
#tlap is at 8CST TONIGHT & I'm hosting 1st chat of the year w/ #piratewife@burgess_shelley who saved the day w/behind the scenes travel magic to get me to my program (fingers crossed) for tomorrow...despite massive flight issues! Join us! #LearnLAP#LeadLAP
Without reflection, there is no growth as an educator. Not for you and definitely not for your students. It's critical to take time to think about what we do each day as educators. #learnlap
A3: communication is vital to any school. It needs to be productive communication. Communication is the tool that drives performance, understanding, and clarity.
#learnlap
Communication isn’t just sharing. It’s also having awareness of our own & the other person’s feelings and values, listening with empathy, taking risks, being vulnerable, making mistakes, forgiving, and—let’s not undervalue this in the age of edtech—making eye contact. #learnlap
A3 Communication is key. Students require both the CONFIDENCE and SKILLS for articulate, scholarly conversations. This is why teaching to the #WholeChlid is so vital. Social-emotional development balanced with academic growth. #learnlap
Absolutely! We model what we most want from our students. Reflection and being honest when things go well (and not so well) are essential to building bonds with Ss. #learnlap
A3: Communication is a key word for my school in 2018. We are trying to improve the flow of information between key stakeholders. Any and all ideas/suggestions are most welcome! #learnlap
2) #learnlap putting your own ideas into the public and having to decide whether to censor yourself or share freely is an amazing way to reflect. Having a pln like this helps the reflective juices flow.
A3. Now >this< one has so many darn examples of purposes of communicating and the why behind it - amazing! Great conversation starter with students could result from this. #learnlap
Hey Alex… fun bumping into you here… I just wrote a comment back to you on my YouTube channel. Thanks for subscribing and for interacting. So powerful when this happens. #LearnLap
A3: we communicate constantly through body language, tone of voice, ALL CAPS; we help Ss (and ourselves) learn to communicate effectively and through multiple mediums #learnlap
A3. Now >this< one has so many darn examples of purposes of communicating and the why behind it - amazing! Great conversation starter with students could result from this. #learnlap
A3: Challenging, more than merely words. Honest, transparent, & fun because when the people with you all have the same goal, achieving that goal is so much fun! #learnlap
Communication - My mom used to say, "Now tell me what I just said..." She knew that if I couldn't give her feedback, she hadn't communicated. (Cause I was on a different planet...) #learnlap
A3- As admin, effective communication is one of the hardest parts of the job. Have to make sure you heard the same thing that I said. Must clarify to get on the same page. #LearnLAP
A3: Communication is used everywhere in schools. Students have to effectively communicate their ideas to others, teachers share ideas with their students, schools need to share with parents and the school community #learnlap
Hey Alex… fun bumping into you here… I just wrote a comment back to you on my YouTube channel. Thanks for subscribing and for interacting. So powerful when this happens. #LearnLap
Word 3: Communication is a classroom or school is best when there is time to clarify what is being said to make sure there are no misunderstandings. #learnlap
A3: Communication...expressing thoughts, ideas, feelings, opinions, based upon experiences/insights, in order to ‘connect’ or share with others. Examples: teacher/student, student/teacher, teacher/parent, parent/teacher, educator/educator #LearnLAP
A3 this one is the lifeblood of this work without it a vision dies and teams fail. It is also the HARDEST thing to get people to do in my experience! We misinterpret each other SO OFTEN and forget to just ask for clarity. 🤷🏽♀️ #LEARNLAP
A3: communication is vital to any school. It needs to be productive communication. Communication is the tool that drives performance, understanding, and clarity.
#learnlap

A4: Student lead, in charge of their learning, #ditchHW I introduced Passion Projects in all my classes, build what they were passionate about. Amazing learning. #learnlap
Communication - My mom used to say, "Now tell me what I just said..." She knew that if I couldn't give her feedback, she hadn't communicated. (Cause I was on a different planet...) #learnlap
A3 Communication is an essential component of all systems. You cannot effectively lead, teach, or learn without being able to communicate. Know your audience, think things through, & express ideas accordingly. #learnlap
Word 3- I’m learning new forms of communication through Twitter. Stepping out of my comfort zone has really opened my eyes to the power of it. #LearnLap
A3) The greatest strides in my career were made when I just listened. Recognize what others have to offer and just listen. #LearnLAP Error on the side of listening.
W4: Empowerment… I work on this daily with my students. In my #Gamified course that is filled with student choice but also student challenge, they naturally feel empowered by the risk rich environment they find themselves in. #LearnLap
A3) The greatest strides in my career were made when I just listened. Recognize what others have to offer and just listen. #LearnLAP Error on the side of listening.
A4: Empowerment happens when enable someone else to lead. That only happens when we are willing to give up some of our power in the classroom. #learnlap
A4: Giving others the freedom to take ownership in the process. Everyone must know their role, but also be able to have autonomy in how to reach the ultimate goal #learnlap
A4: empowerment is knowing when to lead and when to follow. We all have strengths and we need to let them shine. Empowering others gives them a belief that you trust them, appreciate risk, and their contribution is valued.
#LearnLAP
A4: something I struggle with...but I’m working on. I think it means letting go of your grip on the reins and giving the students more ownership of their learning. This allows learning to be engaging and not compliant #learnlap#edchat
A2. Reflection is necessary in learning to look back and see how we can improve on things. Our Ss can do this, as well, in everyday situations! #learnlap
A4: empowerment = teacher as facilitator... not a sage on the stage who wants to show off all of his/her knowledge but someone who is always looking for evidence of student learning #LearnLAP
A4: Relinquishing/sharing control and authority. Some of my favs is to have Ss plan the day, help design the classroom, have authentic voice & choice #LearnLAP
A4 Empowerment is when a teacher meets the current needs of each individual student. All it really takes is listening, watching, and taking a genuine interest in each student. A bit at a time adds up to major growth over the year. #learnlap
A4: Empowerment is especially important for my special ed students, they need to be able to reflect and communicate their needs to others. Teachers need to feel empowered to try new things! #learnlap
A3) The greatest strides in my career were made when I just listened. Recognize what others have to offer and just listen. #LearnLAP Error on the side of listening.

A4. Giving students a safe space and the opportunity to try, to experiment, to fail, to build trust until they believe they CAN do it, and that you'll be there to support them. #LearnLAP
A4: Empowerment: Ss making decisions about their learning and where they do it. Tomorrow my room will be a blank slate & the Ss will arrange, design, and decorate our learning space for 2018. #empowerment#mightbecrazy#LearnLAP
A4: Giving others the freedom to take ownership in the process. Everyone must know their role, but also be able to have autonomy in how to reach the ultimate goal #learnlap
#learnlap Empowerment comes from independence and self-advocacy. When students feel in control of their own learning- they take charge and feel empowered
I love your mention of "allowing Failure to be tolerated" I know how many times I felt that if my students failed that was a bad thing and I was a poor teacher. I now know that mistakes are part of the learning process. #LearnLAP
Thank you so much for the kind words. I hope you stay connected and check out https://t.co/HlHOyv1rEH plenty of good videos there to help you though the processes. #learnLap
So important! @globalearner speaks very eloquently on the need for Ts to relinquish their obsession with control in order to remain relevant. #learnLAP
A4: Relinquishing/sharing control and authority. Some of my favs is to have Ss plan the day, help design the classroom, have authentic voice & choice #LearnLAP
A3. Communication is a multi-person function. As one person is speaking and presenting their ideas, the others must listen. Listening is an important skill which people take for granted. #learnlap
I love your mention of "allowing Failure to be tolerated" I know how many times I felt that if my students failed that was a bad thing and I was a poor teacher. I now know that mistakes are part of the learning process. #LearnLAP
#4 Empowerment
Ss taking control in a knowledgeable way over their learning. Ts take control over their teaching. Admins take control over the overall learning environment, this giving opportunities for T and S empowerment. #LearnLAP
A3) Communication with both parents and Ss allows for learning to be supported. Ps always appreciate knowing what to expect for their student. Ss need clear expectations, the ability to ask questions and to be able to measure their learning and mastery of the content. #learnlap
A4 Empowerment derives from a culture that embraces risk taking and values ideas and suggestions. Empowered Ts see value in trying new things. Empowered Ss see value in voicing their opinions. #learnlap
W5: Creativity is at the heart of what I teach my students. It is the only class of jobs that is growing right now… My #gamified class helps students take the risks needed to try new things, and learn through failure… Lessons needed for the Creative class #LearnLap
A5 Creativity allows others to be unique, try new things, and express yourself in different ways. And it needs to be cultivated all the time. #learnlap
Sorry guys distracted by the #Dawgs#PleaseWin
A5 Above and beyond thinking, when you don't have something, how can you achieve the outcome you desire.
My kiddos, "you don't have purple paint, well what can YOU do?"
#learnlap
A5 Creativity is exploration, adventure, and wonder!
Don’t let Ss get hung up on being original or innovative.
Just encourage them to express who they are, what they believe, and what they dream of. If it comes from YOU, it will be new. #learnlap
A5: Creativity is unlocking your own potential and thinking outside of the box. An example is coming up with a unique solution that goes beyond the status quo. #learnlap
#4 Empowerment
Ss taking control in a knowledgeable way over their learning. Ts take control over their teaching. Admins take control over the overall learning environment, this giving opportunities for T and S empowerment. #LearnLAP
A5: 1 of my fav quotes from TLAP: “Creativity is not the possession of some special class of artistic individuals, but is rather something that can be nurtured and developed in all of us—including your students!” - Dave Burgess #ineedtonurture#learnlap
A5: Its your idea and no one else. I Do this with the Elevator Pitch that is inspired by @jedikermit funko pop biographies and then #geniushour final projects. #learnlap
A4. Empowerment- Ss taking control of their own learming in the classroom. Leading the way through opportunities in discussions, helping others, giving them choices in learning! #learnlap
Creativity - I thought of a new way to do this and it worked! I bet I can add this to it too. And this and this and this! Maybe the two of us can think of 100 ways to do it. Let's. Try. #learnlap
A4) Empowerment: giving our students the ability to own their learning and being transparent with parents to bring them into the learning process. #learnlap
W4: Empowerment: W4: Empowerment - an attitude where one feels safe, accepted, to express, collaborate and communicate with others -- sharing ideas, questions, creations, etc.#LearnLAP
We ALL should be, Kristin. Support doesn't stop when students leave the classroom. Everyone who works in our industry has this awesome responsibility to rise up and respond to the call. #LearnLAP
Creativity is interesting. Does pedagogy curtail the creative process? How do we teach it or develop opportunities for inquiry with student agency in mind?#LearnLAP
5--Creativity
looking at something in a different way..doesn't always have to be something brand new! Listening to curiosity, asking questions, pushing boundaries... #learnlap
A5: Using your gifts, talents and imagination, to invent or make something new or better. Allowing for different paths to the same destination. #LearnLAP

A5: Creativity - The ability to think and perform outside of that which others would expect. To push what was once thought to something that is new. #LearnLap
Empowerment is the feeling of worthiness & that your participation matters. Empowerment comes through noticing your value. My students anD I empower others when we notice the value in others and name it. #LearnLAP
#learnlap Creativity is a often as a result of empowerment. In a classroom-let students lead and use a makerspace and tinker and play. Let kids have options and problem solve and creativity will flourish
A5: #LearnLAP The use of imagination and/or one's own ideas for sharing thoughts. Ex: After reading "Go Away, Big Green Monster" Halloween, students were given choices of constructions paper to create their own monsters.

A5. Ccreativity-Unlocking the key of your imagination and demonstrating it through ideas and projects. What if thinking, going beyond the endpoint! #learnlap
A5: creativity is being able to see new possibilities, two of my favorite things took people looking at an existing concept in a new way to develop - #sketchnotes and #gamification#learnlap
A5 creativity= to be able to do your own thing be that outside the box thinking or deeper in the box thinking, it's non-conformist, it is stretching & changing boundaries, it's morphing & changing to build new or different...its innovating & iterating...don't box me in #learnlap
I use to be so passionate about following everyone else's passion and tyring to copy that. If #tlap taught me anything is to teach with my OWN Passions's. I can only be the best version of me. Even @burgessdave can't teach what I am passionate about. #learnlap
Initiative - taking the risk, finding the reward, and trying things that others have said, I wish too. Stepping out and doing, not waiting for someone else to do it for me. #learnlap
W6 Initiative is part of Purpose Driven Learning found in Explore Like a Pirate book… I use this every day with my students. With side quests and adventure paths built into my classes students have tons of opportunities to take the initiative. #LearnLap
A5: Creativity...all levels, in many forms, of genius in action! Examples...building a structure during play, making up and playing a new music piece, co-designing a learning space. #learnlap
I love how @burgessdave talks about this in his book. Sometimes We don't even know the RIGHT questions to ask. That's why we have this amazing PLN #learnLap#tlap#pln365
A6: Initiative is doing things just because you want to. Not forced and not compelled. An example is taking initiative to join Twitter chats as a pre-service teacher. @megan_hacholski and @_on11 always support me in this. #learnlap
#LearnLAP That spark of determination and grit that gets you focused and moving. Creativity and empowerment spark initiative and collaboration often keeps us motivated to push through
Having purpose and taking action. Not waiting to be told to do something, or waiting for a teacher assigned task. Looking at the world and picking a problem to start solving today. #learnlap
I use to be so passionate about following everyone else's passion and tyring to copy that. If #tlap taught me anything is to teach with my OWN Passions's. I can only be the best version of me. Even @burgessdave can't teach what I am passionate about. #learnlap
A6) That magical place where we find ourselves when we are in the right environment. Initiative happens when people are safe, free, and growing. #learnlap
Initiative- taking on a task because you feel it is important, not waiting for someone to tell you to do it, like Nike has been telling us for years... JUST DO IT #learnlap
A6: Initiative is doing things just because you want to. Not forced and not compelled. An example is taking initiative to join Twitter chats as a pre-service teacher. @megan_hacholski and @_on11 always support me in this. #learnlap

A6: initiative is ownership. We have to model this for our students because as they go to HS/College/Workforce they will be EXPECTED to take initiative/ownership of their tasks not always told what to do #learnlap#edchat
A6: Initiative: recognizing something needs to be done and doing it without having to be told to do it or asked. Ex: Educators chatting on Twitter to grow prof #LearnLAP
A4 What is the most yummy and most challenging part of designing empowering learning experiences?? Taking them from vanilla to cherry 🍒 on top #learnlap
Initiative - Frank: You can't do that. Sam: Why not? It works. Frank: We don't do that here. Sam: But I'm reaching the kids so I'm doing it 'til someone stops me. And Frank, that ain't you. (but say it nice so he's empowered too) #learnlap
Join #tlap tonight at 8CST...and bring your BUCKET LIST!! @burgess_shelley is steering the ship for the 1st chat of 2018...and maybe me, too, if plane WiFi gods cooperate. #LeadLAP#LearnLAP
A6 Initiative is being a self-starter & a self-advocate. There are so many resources and opportunities for kids. But if they do not have the drive or the self-belief to access and avail themselves of those gifts, they remain stuck. Teach pluck & perseverance! #learnlap
A6 Initiative...What gets me out of bed in the morning. I LOVE my work and LOVE trying new ideas/approaches out. I am seeing that same fire in the Ts I coach! 🔥🔥Why wait for someone to ignite you when you can light your own flame? #LEARNLAP
I do have to say that Initiative its sometimes the biggest aspect of teaching I have trouble with. I have all these great ideas. But I am afraid of failure. Sometimes My motivation is that I want my kids to take risk, well I better be doing the same #Learnlap
A6: The power or opportunity to take charge. Ex: When a T sees a student crying in the hallway. Do you ignore the child because they're not in your class or take the INITIATIVE to check in with the S?

A6: Joining Twitter chats as a pre-service teacher requires initiative. I am so grateful for these chats, but no one forces us to join. We are here because we care and love what we do. #learnlap
This is so true, what we decide to do each day and how we treat others big and small matters,
What is our impact is a great question to ask ourselves

A7 Leadership isn't a title. Everyone is a leader at some time. Leadership is earned through relationships with others over a long period of time. #learnlap
A6 Leadership in the best sense is helping those around you to bring their A-game to the table by removing as many impediments as possible in their way #LearnLAP
I love this term self-advocate. I think sometimes I am afraid to promote because I am afraid that I am just coming across as being egotistical. #learnlap

Good reflection. Remember that when you try something new and fail, your Ss learn from that too, not only about taking risks but truly about how to reflect, revise, and continue, all WITH a good sense of humor. You've got this! #LearnLAP
W7 Leadership is knowing when to lead, when to guide and when to get out of the way. Setting up the right environment allows you to do all three. #LearnLap
A7: if you haven’t followed him yet, I think one of the best leaders in our world currently is @simonsinek: I’ve read a couple of his books and they are great! #learnlap
If teachers and parents combine LEADERSHIP with equal parts LOVE, LAUGHTER, and LEARNING, kids thrive! Leadership gets neglected these days, but every child needs structure, stability, and supervision in order to become independent and responsible. #learnlap
Leadership - What do you need? Here it is. Now go do your job because you're a professional and let me know what else you need. Oh, here's a way you can do it easier and more powerfully. #learnlap
Word 7 Something each of us has in us. Some of us formally but so many informally. Inspiring people so as to bring out the best in themselves and others around them. #LearnLAP
A7: Leadership is understanding how to harness inspiration. To make others believe in themselves more than they thought possible. To serve others dreams, because that is your dream. #LearnLap
Leadership is EVERY staff member in an educational setting doing the right thing and being role models. We all have young, impressionable eyes on us...learning from us. #learnlap

A7: Leadership involves doing what is right when no one is looking and leading by example. Be someone whose characteristics are ones people want to emulate. An example is @bethhill2829 and @burgessdave who are outstanding leaders in education and genuinely inspire. #learnlap
#learnlap Leadership can come from the smallest of fish in the very large pond of educators through words of wisdom and the sharing of ideas- the largest of fish lead by example and the insights that stir the current of change
Leadership is being part of the team. I sit in Ss desks while they show how they got it.We are all a team, sometimes they get to lead. Always learning from one another #learnlap
#LearnLAP A7: The act of leading an organization or a group of people. However, I don't believe that you need a title to be a leader. You can lead by example. Ex: Not doing an activity because "we've never done that before" is not a good excuse to NOT do the activity.

Yes, Debb, it is a consistent emphasis on the #WholeChild that leads kids to the confidence and capabilities to take charge of their choices and future. #LearnLAP
I half agree. Where I’d go further is that we have to teach them all of those soft skills in order for them to feel empowered enough to take initiative. At my level—MS—I’m not sure the Ss know what to do w/ the resources.
A7: leadership is making REAL connections with others and being willing to work with them instead of just directing them, empower others as well as yourself #LearnLAP
A8: I'm curious what my score is??? Kidding aside, curiosity is that flame that we inspire to burn more brightly as learners expand upon their wonder to make sense of their learning. #LearnLAP
A7: leadership = collective of capacity builders of others, fillers of the oil in the lamp when it runs low, believers of the tribe, fanners of the flames to be better, compasses to true north... #learnlap
Leadership- when you share meaningful ideas, spread a growth mindset and generosity of collaboration- you are a leader. Lead from the bottom or the top- we are all leaders. #learnlap
A8 Curiosity describes all in this chat tonight. It's wanting to learn about anything with anyone and connecting to learn even more at another time. #learnlap
A8) Kids come to school curious and our institution tends to drive that out of them. Every kid is excited about the first day of school and coming back after break. #learnlap
A7: Leadership: John Wooden was a master of leadership and created leaders throughout his life. Leadership is action, not a position. I strive to create leaders in my kids. Create leaders for today and for the future. #learnlap
A8: Curiosity...what I bring to the table even though students think I ask too many question...but I do get to know them and develop awesome relationships even with the hard to reach students... always curious...it’s my game plan #Learnlap
Agreed. Once we see the limitless ness of our ideas and accept our role as learners and leaders- the boxes we once perceived disappear and all that is left is open terrain #learnlap
I love this term self-advocate. I think sometimes I am afraid to promote because I am afraid that I am just coming across as being egotistical. #learnlap
Word 8: When I think of the word curiosity, I think of wanting students to not ever lose their love of learning. (PS- I also think of the Mars rover Curiosity!) #LearnLAP
a8 curiosity is simply the wondering of the world around us. asking why and searching for the answers leading to possible improvements of our world. #LearnLAP
A8 Curiosity should be #lifegoals for leaders. We should all be INTERESTED in what is out there and looking for what we can add to our knowledge to best serve kids. #LearnLAP
Such great words tonight! Making posters this week to hang around my room! Word of the week for 2018? One work notecard for each one to get kids thinking?Yes please! #learnlap
A8: Curiosity is what we want to develop in all of our students. The willingness to learn for the sake of learning and the desire to see it through #LearnLAP
A8: Curiosity is venturing beyond what is and going to what can be. Never stop questioning, and never stop learning. An example is asking ourselves how we can make our lessons more engaging. #learnlap
This is awesome, Susan! Thank you for these kind words. I am honored to be mentioned by you and with Dave...he is one of my biggest Eduheroes! #learnlap#tlap#joyfulleaders
A7: Leadership involves doing what is right when no one is looking and leading by example. Be someone whose characteristics are ones people want to emulate. An example is @bethhill2829 and @burgessdave who are outstanding leaders in education and genuinely inspire. #learnlap
Curiosity - I wonder if... In fact let's look at that thing that we've been avoiding. What would this look like if it were easy? (Got that question from someone; don't remember who.) #learnlap
A8: curiosity keeps us impassioned, interested, learning, and invested - just as true for Ss as it is for Ts (and I argue that curiosity did not lead to trouble for Alice but to new friends and a new appreciation for her life 😉) #LearnLAP
Curiosity- is always questioning your environment. Hunger for learning. What would happen if.... or could we try this? What else can we test? Never satisfied with the staus quo! #learnlap
A8 Curiosity simply means an openness to awe and new experiences. Being open, accepting, and non-judgmental always results in joy and growth! #learnlap

#LearnLAP A8: A strong will or desire to know something. Ex: (which I am doing when we go back to school on Wed.) blowing bubble into the freezing cold air and seeing what happens to the bubbles. Ss will watch out the windows w/ my para.

A8: Curiosity is the spark behind every great idea! We are charged, as educators, to keep that spark alive through all grades! I see it every single day in Kindergarten! #LearnLAP
Love John Wooden. Huge impact on my life. I think John Wooden Said be more concerned with your character then your reputation. Character is what you are. Reputation Is just merely what people think of you. #learnlap
I was afraid you were going to ask this question. So torn, the more I reflect the more words I come up with... intentional, advocacy, possibility, grace, journey, focus, purpose... I'm going to have to keeping thinking it out. #learnlap#oneword2018
My #OneWord2018 is BUILD. I am officially going deep into my work this year and focusing my energy on creating the things I would like to see while pushing myself to engage more than I ever have. #LEARNLAP
Thank you @teresagross625 for a wonderful chat on #LearnLap and the fact that you made it different and #Gamified, well you know I love that even more.
My #oneword is energy. Because if teachers don’t come with energy, students won’t bring it either. Everyday is a new day! #learnlap#edchat#edugladiators
#LearnLAP PLN, be sure to follow and learn with the eighteen awesome educators featured in my latest blog post! Some of them were here in tonight's chat. https://t.co/AD0XxOFdhL
