-
-
Love my sport! Love to walk, run, stay active and love learning constantly!!
-
Hiya , Welcome to . What time is it there in ?
-
I usually 'get in there' as opposed to out! I enjoy yoga, spin class, the gym, and indoor soccer :)
-
I'm a student taking a class on teaching - very excited to be a part of this chat!
-
-
-
Welcome, Sarah! Thanks for joining :)
-
I'm really into walking, nice and low impact! Also enjoy swimming and badminton every so often!
-
-
A1- Lots of Outdoor and Indoor active games during Breakfast Club and setting pupils sport challenges whilst they set me some
-
-
. is far more appealing than marking https://t.co/jyjwN5zytK
-
-
That's what I should be doing! Couldn't face it. Left them at school. There's always tomorrow...
-
Also - chasing children around a nursery counts as exercise right?
-
Hi Raul! Welcome! Make sure to include at the end of your tweets :D
-
Nice!! :) Make sure to include in your tweets :P
-
-
I'm not seeing the question, not sure if it's a privacy setting issue or internet connection at school:/
-
Yes, sorry... I saw it after send the tweet 😅

Q1 - What are you doing to promote healthier journeys to and from school?
-
I now have images of you as the Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang ;0)
-
late, but here!! Jenna in Bournemouth
-
Oh dear... that's not what I was going for :p I meant chasing in the nicest, friendliest way possible of course!!
-
Hey Jenna! Thanks for joining :D
-
Q1 is here! What are you doing to promote healthier journeys to and from school?
-
A1, our school has a wellness committee that works with the whole school to challenge people to walk or bike
-
-
Make sure they have somewhere safe to keep their bikes
-
My placement school used the 'travel tracker' online. Rewards chn for healthier travel
-
Hiya . How are your children travelling to school in more eco-friendly ways in Bournemouth? https://t.co/vXk2GAah4m
-
-
late, but here!! Jenna in Bournemouth
-
the committee used funds to purchase bike locks for those w/o
-
Seen great examples of children on bikes and scooters https://t.co/cNQzDA8MmM
-
-
Make sure they have somewhere safe to keep their bikes
-
Biking and walking to school is great, but what if they live too far away, or live in a dangerous area?
-
I wonder if that is like the "Fire Up Your Feet" site my school used
-
survey this week is collecting travel data. Lots of bikes and scooters!
-
Then utilise class lessons, PE sessions and Breaks effectively to get the most out of outdoors and active learning
-
-
safety is a huge problem in Baltimore city, especially for bikes, depending on the neighborhood
-
hmm, get off the bus 1 stop sooner than the school and walk a little? Not easy to monitor that though!
-
Great to hear. What do you reckon ? https://t.co/VzTU16uMrG
-
-
survey this week is collecting travel data. Lots of bikes and scooters!
-
Some schools do the 'daily mile' to encourage exercise and physical activity
-
A2- Distance from school, areas in which they live, having to drop off other children at a further distance than one child
-
Can you give us examples of the issues in ?
-
we also have lots of lovely bike/scooter sheds to encourage it. As you know, parking availability at ours isn't great!
-
Q2 is here! What are the barriers to getting families to travel to school in more ecofriendly ways? How are you overcoming them?
-
Saw great examples of this at https://t.co/re9w7cuAEv
-
-
Some schools do the 'daily mile' to encourage exercise and physical activity
-
A1 some schools do a walking bus, where they walk and pick children up on the way to school!
-
A2 - Maybe have outdoor classes where students aren't confined to a desk
-
lovely idea! I've not heard of this one before
-
besides the people there, traffic, often congested, a lack of care by drivers. Ss walk in street
-
-
barriers include distance of journey to school & worry for child safety. Many parents drop off b4 work
-
A3- To some degree. Healthy Body = Healthy Mind. The more physically active, the more aware and more able to retain information
-
Love this idea. You can incorporate so many learning opportunities into a https://t.co/zNe0tL59vE
-
-
A1 some schools do a walking bus, where they walk and pick children up on the way to school!
-
we've done this during walk to school campaigns
-
A2: little hard when the temperature outside is +40 degrees Celcius
-
And many children end school hours before parents get off work!
-
Our y5/6s have walkers' passes that allow them to walk home from school without parent collecting them. Families apply for one
-
A2, time- parents in a rush to get to work, drop a sibling off, etc. no one wants to take the time to walk anywhere
-
-
interesting but our child protective services laws would probably not allow it!
-
Unquestionably yes! Seen numerous examples in Ss i teach. Great read https://t.co/h85A0QS550 the benefits are endless
-
Q3: According to : "Children who are physically fit are better at absorbing + retaining info." What are your thoughts?
-
-
A2 many parents drop off on the way too work so don't have time to walk!
-
A3- I agree, my school allows K students to have 2 recesses, is working on recess for middle school, and is top school in Balt
-
Where are you based? Difficult to empathise with such high temps here in the UK
-
A3- also, class dojo breaks are perfect for getting juices flowing, calming when needed, and indoor recess when rainy
-
It's important for kids to get their energy out through fitness in order to be focused during class... so perhaps yes!
-
Fitter children are less lethargic so spend less time in the day feeling tired
-
A3 I would agree. Chn who are full of beans and haven't had chance to work it off tend to be fidgety and distracted
-
-
I think giving all children time to burn off energy makes them happier leading to better performance in class
-
-
A3 - children who are physically active have less pent up energy and are able to focus better in class
-
A4- Yes. When delivering sessions and sharing planning with colleagues, I share targets & LO to outline key expectations for all
-
Middle East and we have not hit the high season yet :D
-
We've found similar results with out games https://t.co/3Imc6RFfIP
-
-
I think giving all children time to burn off energy makes them happier leading to better performance in class
-
depends on the stability of their mental health
-
Do ALL teachers do this? Or is the emphasis on core subjects only?
-
A3: active body contains an active mind. I am more aware and motivated when I am more fit and regularly exercising
-
-
I think the emphasis is on core subjects but it should happen in PE too! I consider PE to be a core subject also
-
-
-
Q4 - We set targets and share learning objectives in core subjects -- do we do the same in PE?
-
A5- Use and other initiatives like to make learning more active and suitable for outdoors!
-
-
-
We did in my placement school. Exactly the same as with any other subject - Learning Intentions and Success Criteria
-
I have been talk a lot of science outdoors recently. Messy experiments! Quizzes that involve map reading around sch >
-
Maybe I am missing something... Who does not? has changed with some many inspirational Ts on here
-
grounds. (Inspired by ) Great way to get chn out of their seats.
-
-
A5 our pe teacher does during pe class, but in class exercise is mostly for getting wiggles out!
-
Q5 - How can you make core subjects more active? How do you get Maths and English lessons outdoors?
-
-
A5 - is fab for getting kids outdoors and learning while moving! Also is great for movement in the classrm :)
-
A4 - I think free play benefits students the best. They can be active how they want!
-
Sounds great. Don't forget to follow 😊 https://t.co/2M5w6dGO90

-
-
Maths is quite a good one for outdoor learning - lots of shape, measure etc. have lots of good ideas
-
we are taking part. I'm taking y2/4 to beach for beach art.
-
A5jumping/clapping math facts, syllables, large letter writing, everything can b connected to movement and would increase memory
-
every class planning to be outsde. All organised by
-
Hi by the way - sorry for the late entrance - it is 6:15am here in Australia - good morning.
-
A6- Dojo Points for pupils who engage in physical activity and those who make the effort to walk to school etc
-
-
A5 The key to an outstanding PE curriculum is embedding PE across ALL subjects, not 2 stand along lessons per week.
-
Getting students up doing big role play activities like modelling the digestive system works well to get them moving in Science
-
Do they need to be 'active'?
-
A5 you can include activity everywhere - instead of "put your hand up" use "stand up if you know the answer".
-
Not necessarily -- but the topic of today's chat is about getting active :)
-
A5- while on the subject of pe- in Baltimore city it is a luxury class not offered in all schools :(
-
-
A5 Think how well some sports link to core subjects - Athletics to Numeracy is a perfect example. Speed, measure, time, data
-
ah sorry. Late to the party. I do like getting them active! Farmer Farmer in phonics is great!
-
Q6 - How do you use ClassDojo to promote physical fitness?
-
A7- When pupils show they can work with others on trips, working in the community on visits, playing sport for a club
-
I know a lot of PE teachers who use the ClassDojo app to encourage students outdoors! Mobility is key
-
-
A5 Get kids planking every day. Record their time over 30 days. Use the data to see % improvement, avg time, percentages
-
-
A6 points for activity and then send parents pics of the activity so they can discuss it that night
-
A8- Eating Healthy and rounding off each day with my 5 things I have learnt. Encouraging pupils to list 5 things they learn/try
-
great question- thanks, Bryn
-
A3- edit, we use go noodle for wiggle breaks, calming, and indoor recess when rainy, lol
-
-
I do this with throwing and catching - great for Kindys.
-
both and up and running at our school. All aware of 5 ways to wellbeing & have made pledges
-
Thank You for hosting this week!
-
Great suggestion ...
All about reflection https://t.co/Id9Kf6tQil
