Please don’t for get the hashtag when responding and commenting
Question 1 https://t.co/vpqbjZmkj3
Q1: How would you define Differentiation? What does it look, sound, and feel like?
A1: Ability to take material/content and make it understandable and manageable for a variety of learners and learning styles.
follows a Q & A Format. Q1/A1 Q2/A2
Interesting you bring up learning styles. I can’t wait til we get further into tonight’s discussion! https://t.co/D4FNg7FHr0
A1: Ability to take material/content and make it understandable and manageable for a variety of learners and learning styles.
Meeting students where they are developmentally, facilitating learning experiences that stretch students to the next level
A1: D.I. is about groups of students and meeting that group’s needs by process, product, or content.
A1. Differentiation is ALL Children Learning!
A1: Teaching to student at their level or no one size fits all.
A1: Teaching to student at their level or no one size fits all.
A1: A T can differentiate the process, content, or product
A1: Knowing the TEKS before your grade and after, so you know how to intervene and challenge kiddos. It's not just "your grade"
I think we have done a great job define what D.I. is but what does it look like exactly?
A1. There's collaboration amongst colleagues...Ss talking to each other...Sharing ideas...
That's an excellent point. Most Ts don't understand this.
Q2 will come soon, but what it looks like is huge!
It looks like a group of teachers meeting after school talking...sharing ideas...ensuring children will succeed
Q2: Now that we have defined Differentiation, how do we define personalization?
Yes! Helps to understand the continuum of learners across a range of grades
A1: Differentiation can look like a flipped classroom, small group. It depends on the needs of the learners.
Benefits of an effective PLC https://t.co/4Wwb22X7po
It looks like a group of teachers meeting after school talking...sharing ideas...ensuring children will succeed
A2: I think personalization is more about S control of their learning/direction/future. Less about needs more about interests.
YES!!! YESSS!!!! YESSS!!!! https://t.co/pPhbnoTkQP
A2: I think personalization is more about S control of their learning/direction/future. Less about needs more about interests.
But one thing I will add is that I don’t think it is about less or more of needs vs interest but a hea… https://t.co/V699EccWLE
A2: I think personalization is more about S control of their learning/direction/future. Less about needs more about interests.
A2: providing a range of ways to access content (varied curriculum, projects, choice, technology)..
A2. I think personalization is catering to a S's learning style...Want to learn more about this
It's so hard to find that range in the day and age of testing.
A2: Personalization is needs and interests being met.
A2... and engaging children in helping figure out ways they learn best
A2: Ss perspective and input involved with learning. I would even add Ps input if Ss is young.
A1/2:Sometimes u go "rogue" & just do what u know will help Ss get it-even if the "other side of the tracks folks" will freak
is discussing personalization this evening. Interesting perspectives
Freak! They almost have a near death experience! LOL.
A2. I think it might also mean getting to know them...their interests...That'll help build a relationship between T and S
Love! Talked about this in PLC today with and https://t.co/ZxfL3VY3G0
A2: Ss perspective and input involved with learning. I would even add Ps input if Ss is young.
Q3: Now that we have defined D.I. and Personalization, what is the benefit of each?
Jumping in late in . Monica, Special Ed Teacher, Texas. Thanks, , for the reminder!

Question 3 https://t.co/4KprawFlPp
Q3: Now that we have defined D.I. and Personalization, what is the benefit of each?
A2 students controlling their learning so they can succeed in all classes
True. Some of our teachers do project based learning, but grounded in district required curricular themes
Q3: Both can lead to more individualized student driven and lead instruction.
3rd grade teacher from Stockton, CA joining late.
We are going to discuss this further in a little! Get ready https://t.co/v4szomkp6B
It's so hard to find that range in the day and age of testing.
A3. When both are connected, the T can deliver valuable instruction and the S will be engaged to learn...Success! ☺
A3: Connecting learning to WHERE they are, academically...IN their reality.
I'm trying to find that balance!
a3: I feel that DI has its place and so does Personalization. Allows for a deeper, personal connection though!
a3: I am a big fan of metacognition and Ss becoming so. Personalization lends itself more to Ss becoming self-regulartory.
A3 both the students and the teachers can show growth in each and the lessons become more authentic
A3: DI's benefits is all Ss being able to learn content in diff ways. PL allows Ss to guide & be excited about learning!
A3. Student inquisitiveness, investment, persistence (even if work is hard), & pride, plus authentic learning & skill building
What is an authentic lesson?
Interesting. Is it one that has been done over and over but still connects w Ss? https://t.co/g7NnbMEBvH
What is an authentic lesson?
A3. If you make education relevant, students will buy into their education. It creates a sense of ownership.
Q4: When beginning to personalize the learning experiences of Ss, what is one of the first things that should be done?
I agree! https://t.co/LO3UHrnb60
A3. If you make education relevant, students will buy into their education. It creates a sense of ownership.
A4: Really know your Ss..... Is that a trick question?
This was the 2nd time they've done this-they're getting better w/ the purposeful talk/social stuff of groupwork
Honestly… no! But how do u get to know them? https://t.co/p81K70r5Ch
A4: Really know your Ss..... Is that a trick question?
A4: You need to make/take the time to really get to know your Ss and their fams. Prioritize it. No excuses.
LOL. No I promise it isn’t
A4: I love the looks on kids faces & their responses when I ask them for permission to do or try (fill in the blank)
A4. I think Ss need to realize we're a learning community in our room...everyone has something to offer
a4: One thing I did recently with every S 3-5th grade is created a S Interest Survey using Microsoft Forms.
A4: OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL INVESTMENT OF TIME! Can you tell I'm passionate about this? Football games, church, TIME!
a4: when planning for personalization, use the data for needs but also see what they are interested in & their learning styles
A4: knowing your Ss starting points, strengths, and challenge areas.
A4: Maybe try to start with issues children really care about and to which they bring some interest or expertise
Make a sincere effort to chat and learn about them. Do not talk at them. Listen. Minimize your ego and biases
A S in 5th grade said today that she wish schools would listen to students more https://t.co/GoRDOSUGIX
Make a sincere effort to chat and learn about them. Do not talk at them. Listen. Minimize your ego and biases
A4: I "walk with kids" every now & then-Folks think I'm nuts walking down Alabama 2 the Cuney Homes, but those convos-priceless
This! Capitalize/celebrate those strengths! https://t.co/TW1c2sbYfk
A4: knowing your Ss starting points, strengths, and challenge areas.
This! https://t.co/pVqKILEDyb
Make a sincere effort to chat and learn about them. Do not talk at them. Listen. Minimize your ego and biases
A4 Good assessment is important, too, to have right range of reading materials, media, etc. for children to access new info
My district has a framework for personalized learning&Ss have to adopted 3 of the principles. Link: https://t.co/RammZxL9sB
Q5: What three principles would you focus on in your school/classroom? Provide justification https://t.co/RammZxL9sB
A5: Co-planning, choice/voice, & flex pacing. Involved in process, how they learn, & at a pace that works for them!
Choice-It's shows Ss we value their opinion/trust them-HUGE-I'm trying 2 get Ss 2 see they are N the driver's seat of their edu
A4. Get to know your Ss and their interests. It would amaze you how much equity you get from knowing Pokémon.
Love it! How do you think you would do this w/out overwhelming yourself? https://t.co/19y4NYHx1P
A5: Co-planning, choice/voice, & flex pacing. Involved in process, how they learn, & at a pace that works for them!
Work with struggling readers, so a big fan of varied strategies, and voice and choice.
A5: voice&choice; mastery based assessment; flexible pacing. Ss learn if they buy in & shouldn't have to wait for others.

Agree! Sep when my “higher” Ss still have their struggle. https://t.co/pA5AdmjlIx
A5: voice&choice; mastery based assessment; flexible pacing. Ss learn if they buy in & shouldn't have to wait for others.
I think it's about taking steps - 1 at a time then build to all 3 being utilized eventually!
A4: Insight into who each of your kids are is critical... https://t.co/yHPbAl7hHl
Q4: When beginning to personalize the learning experiences of Ss, what is one of the first things that should be done?
Y’all this conversation is amazing and on FIRE tonight! You can def say that the ThingLink on PL is a great resource
Choice and Voice. Their voice will demonstrate the learning
A5. Engagement by Choice...How exciting that would be for Ts and S to be a part of a lesson that a S designed/created
I'm trying to find the time to reteach, and keep up with the curriculum pacing. https://t.co/5M8WMLIlkF
A5. Instructional Strategies-They need to constantly be improved, updated and are reaching all Ss
A4: We have some curriculum constraints, but choice for demonstrating learning helps a lot w/investment in challenging tasks

& flexible pacing bc it teaches Ss they're alright right where they are. They can move at their own pace and still thrive!
we picked the same 3! https://t.co/81NYxFeGsi
A5: voice&choice; mastery based assessment; flexible pacing. Ss learn if they buy in & shouldn't have to wait for others.
Q6: PL is hard work! How does one make themselves or other Ts feel, this is just an extra task or another thing to do?
Can you say a little more about Just In Time Instruction?
Q6: If PD & DI is used, being in a CR will be easier - Ss will have needs met & feel personally connected to their learning.
I wish I had a choice in the models that I use to teach math. I so dislike base 10 blocks!
JITDI is providing instruction based on data needs. E.g. Ss take a test on fractions, i might remediat… https://t.co/7cZbgikiWa

I wish I had a choice in the models that I use to teach math. I so dislike base 10 blocks!
a6: 1 thing we tried to do is keep in mind what Ts are already doing. They do JITDI through Guided Reading and Guided Math
Q6. I'm lucky..Not an issue in our school...We all work hard + make efforts 2 help our kids daily...strong school culture
