#ProsperISD chat open to all in and out of district teachers discussing best practices and working with students K-12. It will occur on the second Thursday of every month at 8:00pm CST.
Patrick O'Neil, admin, proving that professional learning can happen anywhere - by taking a quick break from unpacking literally everything I own at our new house! #Prosper4ward
A1: WATCH and LISTEN! It is so important to really observe and listen to your students to fully understand their needs. Giving voice and choice in a variety of formats can also help you in meeting all the different types of learners in your classroom. #Prosper4ward
A1: Edtech lends itself to many great ways to personalize instruction to cater to each Ss needs. Think choice boards, student voice, @hyperdocs, and so much more. Google Classroom also allows for assigning tasks to specific students rather than the whole class. #Prosper4ward
A1: I personalize instruction by putting the kidsâ names in Math problems and incorporating their interests into instruction. I also ensure all needs are being met by differentiating groups and stations. #Prosper4ward
A1 Piggybacking onto this question - for those of us who are in a non-classroom role, how do you personalize instruction for ADULT learners - if you're a coach of some sort, a team lead, an administrator? #Prosper4ward
A1: So some awesome ways you can personalize instruction is through student choice boards, hyperdocs, and learning menus. Use PLC time to collaborate about all of the awesome ways to teach kids and use ALL ideas for a choice board! #Prosper4ward
A1: I personalize instruction by providing opportunities where students get a choice and create their own product that shows their level of understanding. #Prosper4ward
A1 Google Classroom is one of the best tools for personalizing instruction. It allows me to give individual students supports, scaffolded and leveled material, and monitor in real time student progress. It allows me to immediately re-teach or extend as needed. #prosper4ward
Give adults LOTS of choice in HOW they learn and WHERE they learn such as flipped learning options with book studies, online self-paced courses, or in person sessions like Lunch and Learns! #Prosper4ward
A1: I personalize instruction by giving my Ss voice and choice. Using their names in prob solv, letting them teach strategies in # talks, having them discuss the verbs in our I cans so they are in their language are a few ways. #Prosper4ward
During PBL I rely heavily on student feedback and critiques to find out what lesson each student or group most needs and then customize it to there personal learning style. #Prosper4ward
A1 Of course I'm going to give a technology plug, BUT the beauty of technology is being able to differentiate to meet the needs of all your kiddos. It also allows teachers the opportunity to be intentional and work with small groups. #Prosper4ward
A1: I take interest surveys, learning style surveys to make sure I understand what they enjoy. Menus are a fun way to allow for choice. I allow students to manipulate and construct products based on their interest. Analyze data to learn students needs is important. #Prosper4Ward
A1 Choice Boards in ELAR and math have been a game changer! Assigning activities in @Seesaw and Google Classroom based on student need. Collaborating with our amazing SPED staff @HeatherDoke@tammy_tfielding@nicolecalderEDU and Mrs. OâBryan r fab @ helping w/ this! #Prosper4ward
Student surveys!!!! Ask them!!! Sometimes they are their best advocate, and if they arenât, this is a great way to show them how to be!!! @PompTeacher for the win! #Prosper4ward

A1: Truly getting to know your learners (of all ages) and what drives them - do they crave autonomy? self-expression? opportunities to be social? - is imperative in order to develop a learning plan...but do it *with* them and not *for* themđ#Prosper4ward
A2: Keeping lines of communication open is key! Make sure to invite each other to meetings, CC on emails, share data sheets, and generally function as a team. It should not be "us" and "them" - we are all working towards the same goal. #Prosper4ward
A2: Communication is key! Ts need to work together, collaborate together, and TEACH together. Its a powerful thing when the gen-ed T & SPED T have a relationship that transforms a classroom. #goals#Prosper4ward
A2: Constant communication between the two (or more) teachers. Feedback and having them join in planning time with general ed teachers to see what we are doing in class and allows them to manipulate that to do in their classroom with the students on their level.
A2: One of the easiest things you can do is to invite the Special Education teachers to collaborate with you! Invite them to your PLC! Ask questions! They want to collaborate! #Prosper4ward
A2 I think it all begins with the mutual understanding that every single educator wants what is best for students. Once that is established, communication and collaboration can be effectively used. #Prosper4ward
A2 Having general education and special education working together from the planning stages, looking at the why of each activity, and determining the best way to affectively make each lesson/ activityâs why attainable for everyone. #Prosper4Ward
A2: Communication is most definitely key, but having a clear common purpose and goal for collaborating helps with knowing what to communicate about. #Prosper4ward
On the note of Q2: it was such a pleasure today to sit in on PLC @hugheselemand see SPED, Dyslexia, specialists, Coaches, and teachers ALL working together to find solutions for ALL students #Prosper4ward
A2: Be open and transparent! We all have different experiences and different knowledge. We all have something to learn from each other to do whatâs best for kids! #Prosper4ward
A2: They can collaborate by incorporating new ideas and techniques into daily lessons. Effective strategies are best for ALL students. Together we are better! #Prosper4ward
A2: Literally a day never goes by that I don't see/talk to our 5th grade SPED teacher..... like multiple times a day.... she should just have an office in our classrooms. :) #teamworkmakesthedreamwork#Prosper4ward
A2 Having general education and special education working together from the planning stages, looking at the why of each activity, and determining the best way to affectively make each lesson/ activityâs why attainable for everyone. #Prosper4Ward
A2: having SPED present at PLC and an open line of communication is critical. Data diving, lesson planning, and even those small on the fly convos about students are powerful tools to make sure we are servicing those students equally. #Prosper4Ward
A2 Always keeping it about the kids and having a mutual respect for one another. Planning time before the school year began to go over goals, lesson plans, etc with the SPED team was huge to our collaboration! #theroomrunsitself#commongoals#Prosper4ward
A2: Sharing ideas and collaborating with Sped to provide the same learning opportunities in a resource setting as the general ed classroom. This provides equity for all learners. #Prosper4Ward

A1: I love to use interest inventories to get to know what students enjoy. Then talking about those inventories. Students thrive when given choice as well. I sometimes allow students to choose how they want to respond to literature, using chrome book or written. #Prosper4ward
A3: It starts w/ relationships. You wonât get anywhere with anyone without that foundation. Build the foundation first, and then find what makes that S tick. You will likely find it doesnât take much if youâve taken the time to meaningfully connect with that S. #Prosper4ward
A3: By choosing to highlight the positive behaviors verses the negative ones and using rewards that they select. That way they are more motivated to earn them. #Prosper4ward
A1- my team is working hard to create CFAâs. We are constantly looking for enrichment and remediation ideas for upcoming units. We used these resources and our data from CFAâs to offer differentiated options. #Prosper4ward
A3: Having a goal chart the kids have with them and once goal is met, they get rewarded by something of their choice. The goal has to be obtained quickly to help them see they can do it. #Prosper4ward
A3: Simply acknowledging when students do things well, no matter how small, goes a LONG way! Too often we focus on what kids do wrong instead of what they do right. Small wins, like great job walking into the classroom LOL! #Prosper4ward
A3: Exactly this. This can't be skipped. It doesn't matter how tempting the external motivator is...relationships last when rewards don't. #Prosper4ward

The best behavior support is building an authentic relationship with the student. Gaining trust and respect then giving genuine praise for expected behavior then redirection, firm limits, or keeping the demand for unexpected behavior depending on the function. #Prosper4Ward
A3: Any and all positive rewards work. Just as in my opinion, negative consequences donât work. That and clear expectations and mutual respect. #prosper4ward
On the note of Q2: it was such a pleasure today to sit in on PLC @hugheselemand see SPED, Dyslexia, specialists, Coaches, and teachers ALL working together to find solutions for ALL students #Prosper4ward
A3: One word- Relationships. When a kid knows you love them. Truly love them for who they are. Not for their grades, or their parentsâ volunteer hours, but for the awesome lil human they are- WOW. Thatâs all I can say. Too many words for Twitter. #Prosper4ward
A3: I steal from the best on positive behavior support. @ELARwithMsB is the best. Recognizing and promoting positivity plus proximity!!!! She is always moving around and talking to everyone!!! #Prosper4ward
A3: Give students a chance to show their awesomeness. Join in the silly at times. Go to their soccer games. Smiles, laughs, hugs, and high fives! #Prosper4ward
A3: Building relationships is the ONLY way to develop trust. Students will please anyone they KNOW loves them. When things get tough...students rely upon you to be their compass and safe place to fall. #Prosper4Ward
Q3: Morning meetings! Creating an inclusive classroom where we all WANT to be and are HAPPY to be! Our morning meetings are where it all startsâ¤ď¸ #Prosper4ward
A3: Be specific. Celebrate and make sure the student knows how they were successful and point out the positive behaviors that got them there. #Prosper4ward
Thinking back to @psoneil and how we can do this for adults, the same rule applies, make relationships with your staff, keep moving and talking to everyone! #Prosper4ward
In reply to
@mrsjacksonelar, @ELARwithMsB, @psoneil
A3: Specific instructions with clear and encouraging statement of expectations. We often wrongly assume that everyone knows what we want them to do. #Prosper4ward
A3: Iâve had various different PBS reward programs over the years. When kids have say in what those rewards are, the buy-in is way higher. Even my 6th graders were all about it. They have to have an investment in it for it to work. #Prosper4Ward
A3: Build relationships! Show the students you respect, care, and support them. It is amazing how Ss will work for you! And Listen to them! #Prosper4ward

A4: Setting the stage from the beginning and reinforcing those expectations...EVERYONE has talent and something to contribute. Regardless of a âlabelâ that has been placed, we strive to learn from each other! #Prosper4Ward
A3: KICKBACK -each letter stands for 2 mins of technology or educational free time earned by each student at the end of the week. Table Points help with group norms for projects. End of Wk winner gets lunch w/ a friend Just #positivity! #Prosper4ward
A4: @DrTempleGrandin says it best, âdifferent, not less.â Cherish the S that march to the beat of their own drum, bc they play the most beautiful music. If we instill this into the heart of our Ss & staff by modeling it everyday, life would be much more wonderful. #Prosper4ward
A4: By treating EVERYONE with the same respect and kindness I would want to be shown. It is also important to view each person, student, etc as an equal partner in this educational journey and that each person should have equal access to the same experience #Prosper4ward
A2: Sharing ideas and collaborating with Sped to provide the same learning opportunities in a resource setting as the general ed classroom. This provides equity for all learners. #Prosper4Ward
A3 Positive reinforcement for adults as well. Legal issues, timelines, and advocates can be overwhelming. Sometimes your sped staff may need that little extra reinforcement to get them through the day #Prosper4ward
A4 Honestly, when I was a theatre teacher, this was pretty easy for me. All types of kids were on my stage and backstage. Find and celebrate what kids are great at, and help them to excel at that while you are working on the other stuff! #Prosper4ward
A3: Specific instructions with clear and encouraging statement of expectations. We often wrongly assume that everyone knows what we want them to do. #Prosper4ward
A4 I try to give a welcoming smile to everyone I see. So much can be communicated with a simple smile. I definitely fall short, but that is the goal! #Prosper4ward
A4: We are a family in my room. Every person has a voice. That voice equally matters & deserves to be heard. We value each other, big or small. We treat each other w/ kindness & we treasure each otherâs creativity & thinking. It makes us mindful of our differences. #Prosper4ward
By finding each personâs strength and giving them an opportunity to use that strength as well as showoff that strength: to be proud of it in all settings. #Prosper4ward
A4 I legit almost started crying when I first saw this quote lining the hallway outside the office before the school year began!! Dual, SPED, etc... #allmeansall#Prosper4ward@RuckerRocks
A2: Be open and transparent! We all have different experiences and different knowledge. We all have something to learn from each other to do whatâs best for kids! #Prosper4ward
A4: I think modeling inclusivity in Prosper ISD is easy because we all love and help each other. Kids see the words and body language we use toward each other, so choose kindness!!! Your words and actions when nobody is looking matter! (Little eyes always see) #Prosper4ward
A4: Showing respect to everyone, all the time. Your character is who you are when no one is looking! I model that each day and hope my students know I couldnât do what I do alone! We need each other! #Prosper4ward
A1: I love to use interest inventories to get to know what students enjoy. Then talking about those inventories. Students thrive when given choice as well. I sometimes allow students to choose how they want to respond to literature, using chrome book or written. #Prosper4ward
A2 Communication between both SpEd and GenEd is key for effective collaboration. Itâs difficult at times for SpEd to join PLCâs but itâs not difficult to communicate over lunch, walking in the hallway, before/after school. #Prosper4ward
A4: embrace the unique and different qualities of your students, colleagues, and families. Thatâs what makes us a cohesive and strong community.#uniqueiscool#Prosper4Ward
