CatholicEdChat is a twitter chat. Topics focus on discussions around educational issues for Catholic Educators and topics beneficial to Catholic Schools. We look forward to continuing to connect Catholic Educators online to discuss education and teaching with faith in our schools. The chat takes place on Saturday mornings. Time 9am EST.
Good morning. Maureen from Iowa/Omaha. I tried to spread the word this week and asked a former colleague from Montana to join us. She's a tech rockstar, like many of you! #catholicedchat
Denise! I keep meaning to tell you. Because of something you shared here, our entire school staff got copies of Virtue-Based Restorative Discipline for the summer. Thanks for the tip! #CatholicEdchat
Adam, 5/6 social studies, Brooklyn, Ohio! Last #CatholicEdchat chat before I celebrate the sacrament of Holy Matrimony! It’s going to be a crazy week before next Saturday!
Have you noticed that you still eat quickly too! By the time I start slowing down eating dinner, it's back to school time and I have to speed up my eating again. LOL #CatholicEdChat
That is so great! The Diocese of Wichita has completely bought into @VirtueBasedRD for their Catholic schools. They finished a 4-day training with @LynneLang4 and @gpriceisright this week! So glad to hear! #CatholicEdChat

We have been working with @Heart_of_Ed who is just fabulous. Can’t wait to watch as this pays dividends. It’s something I believe in with my whole heart. Finding it tough to get buy in from everyone, though #CatholicEdchat

@CatholicCoaster I think I also feel guilty that I'm relaxing. I feel like I should accomplish something. #CatholicEdChat So I guess reading books and painting my nails is my accomplishments for the summer. LOL
I struggle in summer with wanting to attack the issues ahead of me, but knowing I need to be refreshed to be the best principal for my staff. #catholicedchat
I understand the #ISTE18 registrations topped 24k this year! Very well organized, wifi pretty good overall, and so many topics to learn about. #CatholicEdchat
Really? I heard from so many people the lines were long and they couldn’t get into any of the sessions they wanted. I personally jus networked and hit the exhibit hall #CatholicEdchat
It's like your first year of teaching, when later you want that class of students to forgive you for being your first class! LOL. Just keep the mission of the school in front of you at all times. #CatholicEdchat
#CatholicEdChat needs a little vacation. @ncara and I decided to take July off. Please consider signing up to moderate a chat in the Fall. Nancy has a Google Doc ready for sign ups!
One thing that was important to me was sharing the process of preparing for the sacrament with my students. Sharing the faith formation of the Catholic faith is why we are in Catholic education! #CatholicEdChat
NCEA gets it right with their smaller conferences, like this summer's #NCEAAssessment, or the STREAM conferences. Small sizes, focus, networking in smaller settings. #CatholicEdChat@NCEATALK

#CatholicEdChat Unorganized? How so? I have never been to an ISTE conference, so nothing to compare it to. Seemed like the venue worked for moving that amount of people.
I’ll be sure to share some stories of my awesome day next Saturday with all of you when we return in August!! Keep my fiancée and I in your prayers!! #catholicedchat
Congrats to the young college student! We are doing the college search with my youngest, who is entering his senior year, & my eldest is about to start a Master's program in western NY, so yeah, I get that kind of busy! #catholicedchat
I always want to talk about reading! Would love to talk about Catholic teachings about immigration/refugees and how we are addressing this in our rooms, would be interested in talking about prayer journals and how teachers use them #catholicedchat
There were not enough sessions. Long lines and many people couldn’t get in. Also the poster sessions should have been more spread out. I was dying while I was doing mine. Claustrophobia kicked in! #catholicEdChat
#CatholicEdChat I'll admit there were long lines at #ISTE18. I'm glad I had preregistered for sessions where that was available. I was unable to get into some sessions where I hadn't. Maybe less sessions, bigger rooms?!
Yes! A chat about immigrations and refugees. This was a session at #NECathEdCamp on Tuesday. I'm going to the rally this afternoon in Omaha too. #CatholicEdChat
Agreed. I'm trying to finish up things for my grad class. Got behind because I just go with the flow in the summer. Flowed right into the procrastination zone. #CatholicEdchat

It might also be cool to talk about Social Studies in this chat- I know I've seen reading, math, science and religion but I don't know that I've seen history? #catholicEdChat
That could lead to some interesting discussion, especially since SS is more than history/the way and parts of history are presented is important #CatholicEdchat
It's always crammed like that in the rooms. They want all these people to attend to cover costs, but can't really accommodate all of them. Sessions could require an eTicket which could help w/ room sizes, but it would make a mess getting people into rooms. #CatholicEdchat

Hey Jan! I had an amazing time at ISTE Denver and spent so much time in the hallways having conversations with other Ts and actually planning how to implement different strategies & tools. #CatholicEdchat
My kiddo didn't like College Park for some reason. He seemed OK with UMBC, but his top pick at the moment, I think, I RIT. Oy, my bank account! #CatholicEdchat
#nerdcampNJ did a session on this and it's so needed. I read a thread the other day about how so much of what is discussed when "exemplary teachers" are being honored are things that are done OUTSIDE the classroom which is tough! That balance is really critical #catholicedchat
I'll be supporting an English T who's gamifying her classroom and a number of Ts who are trying to #tlap
I'll also be running more #CoffeeEDU#PatioPD and #PubPD sessions this summer. Scheduling and posting these sessions after July 4.
#CatholicEdchat
I have struggled with this especially in the last couple of years caring for my husband. At one point I did wind up in the psych ward for 4 days to pull myself together. #catholicEdChat
Then the summer comes and all the home projects I put off during the school year are ready for me to tackle.....um, I'd rather read a book! LOL #CatholicEdChat
Me too! I always tell my kids: my favorite thing is teaching, my 2nd favorite thing is learning about teaching, my 3rd favorite thing is talking about teaching lol! I'm doing Jenn Seravallo's writing camp & Penny Kittle's Book Love this year #catholicedchat
Thank you. So many people are shocked when I ask them, "When and where do you want to meet? Starbucks? Brewery? Back Yard?" I do it for one reason. Our students benefit from it. Ts grow so much more when they feel supported. #CatholicEdchat
