A0 hi! Shayla Fortenberry from Lubbock, Texas! I love the A for Art!! It is my favorite way to get students not typically “in to” STEM to dive in!!! #LCPvanguard#AppleEDUChat
Good evening #AppleEDUchat/ 4th & 5th grade school teacher and steward of a future innovation lab in Maine to be unleashed in a few months. Looking forward to lurking and learning
A1: I love to bring robotics in with our science engineering challenges. From Sphero to LEGO to 3d printers to drones and more. Love robotic components! #appleeduchat
Worked quite a bit with Mindstorms with our students. Pairing them with @scratch and then really setting them free. Mindstorms, Dash/Dot, Spheros… Can’t get enough #AppleEDUchat
The space is part of our new elem bldg. Looking to develop opportunities that will immediately connect with current curric as our faculty have not had access to a innovation lab in the past. Thinking of centers and lit based entry points. #AppleEDUchat
Hi everyone - Marc near Philadelphia, PA. While all the subjects in STEM are great, Technology has always been my favorite. Mostly lurking tonight since the focus is K-12. #AppleEDUchat
A1: My favorite example would have to be using #sphero in #ela - Ss coded Sphero to show understanding of characterization. Credit for this idea goes to @JessicaRae929#AppleEDUchat
A1 - We have used iPads to control a robotics olympics where robots are the athletes in an #ESportsEDU kind of contest. Here's Steal the Bacon - Girls Versus Guys! #AppleEDUChathttps://t.co/bn8WH9FrGP
I'm putting together an activity with an ELA teacher to use Sphero as the "actors" in a play. Students will direct and do the voices. They really have to think about the scene to get a robot to act it out well. #AppleEDUchat
They are so much fun. And now so affordable. I've been working on ways to get them in classes all over the building. Next stop is geometry... #AppleEDUchat@MrsKemper

We started the year with straight up lessons on @codeorg then moved into @scratch projects such as “Build an application that can draw an N sided polygon with X number of sides” #AppleEDUchat
A2: Right now I’m working with a student with an interest in python. Working on building something to help us locate devices student misplace in the building! #AppleEDUchat
A2. I'm all about Everyone Can Code... Learn to Code and App Dev. We use it in all of our engineering classes and other areas. it's fantastic. Also works well in classes outside of STEM. Journaling, reflection, discussion... good for any subject. #appleeduchat
A2: My 3-5 students have loved learning Swift playgrounds and applying their knowledge with spheros in HPL! I especially loved the Coding Machine activity (the kids were so proud of their different machines!) and I'm amazed how fast they pick up Swift! #AppleEDUchat
A2 I’ve been teaching coding to kids and undergraduate non-CS students since 2010. Alice 3D was nice then and I’ve taught Ss to understand or illustrate how characters really run/walk on 3D. Swift Playgrounds was not created yet. #AppleEDUchat
Check out the @_SwiftTeacher podcast with West Chester. The did some research that showed strong relationships between coding and writing using Swift Playgrounds. #AppleEDUchat
A2 Not a student project, but had some success with a web app I wrote recently that generates responsive YouTube and Kaltura embed codes for the web page templates we use in our LMS. Written in JavaScript and jQuery. #AppleEDUchat
I’m embarrassed to admit I don’t know what LOTE stands for! I will definitely check out Swift Playgrounds. I’m #appleteacher on #iPad & #Mac but haven’t move on beyond that just yet. #appleeduchat
Hey everyone! I’m Chasten Greeson from Lubbock, TX. I teach 3rd Grade with lots of QR codes, and we are currently making an iBook about our community! #LCPvanguard#AppleEDUChat
I love these! They'd be great for a Jackson Pollock lesson! You are so great with combining art and tech! From sketchnotes to sphero painting! #EveryoneCanCreate#AppleEDUchat@AppleEDU

Sorry @MrKelly027 and @BBTNB I’m late to #AppleEDUchat tonight! We’ve done Sphero Art, We-Do LEGO Olympics, and Mindstorm mazes at the all grade levels!
A2: I came across a project that I’m doing next year where the students code an autonomous car using #Mindstorms and then explore the MIT morality project to understand implications of their code. Will be beyond cool. #AppleEDUchat
A3: After seeing @theipodteacher's example, I really want to do this when teaching abstract art! Totally ties in to Jackson Pollock and they'd have a BLAST with it! #AppleEDUchat

Languages Other Than English. You'll have to check out Swift Playgrounds. It is soooo much fun and so easy to get started. You could even have them do their reflections and journals in French. I just came up with that one. 🤓 #AppleEDUchat
A3: We use @sphero to analyze plot and characterization in high school literature classes: https://t.co/6p9fEx3hWT Have done this w/ Huck Finn, Beowulf, and Canterbury Tales #AppleEDUchat
A3 - Don't forget DRONES are #Robotics and a fine piece of #STEM. We started Canada's first K-12 #Dronography program in 2014. Here are our students practicing disaster first aid deliveries! Apple devices supporting! #AppleEDUChathttps://t.co/YqAu7bmAXY
@BBTNB A2:we started w/ Tynker/Osmo then moved to Hopscotch during Hour of Code. My Ss created a coded game that related to their project. For example, 4th grade wrote a book on cottontop tamarins their game included saving the 🐒 from 🔪
A3: I want to use @SpheroEdu@Sphero in English classes. Code them to make movements that coincide with creative writing that is being read to class. #AppleEDUchat
Making our own science manipulatives, fixing equipment, and designing tools for special needs students have been some of the best pay off of the #3dprinters#appleeduchat
A3 We have incorporated @SpheroEdu into 1st/2nd Grade with measurement and estimation lessons. Students learn non traditional units of measurement #AppleEDUChat
I'm thinking that a Sphero maze/scavenger hunt would be a fun project as well! Have the kids create pieces to the maze, then navigate it with Spheros to discover clues! #AppleEDUchat
Super jealous of your #Dronography program. I’ve preached it to anyone that would listen here. If only we could do this it would be so powerful. #AppleEDUchat
A3 In higher elementary, we use @LEGO_Education EV3 Mindstorm kits to have students measure, build and problem solve through different challenges #AppleEDUChat

A1 We try to do a lot of challenge based learning like this challenge where students need to transport a bucket of legos from one platform to the other using their @ParrotEducation drone #AppleEDUChathttps://t.co/mse8JmBpn8
A3: Using @Sphero in science is my FAVE! We just jump started this engineering challenge today to investigate pollution. I’ve used the robot in seismic safe building challenges too as a sensor. Love that little robot! #appleeduchat
A3: stealing this idea! Adding in #coding and #art after some #impressionism? I think yes. Wrapping it up with a reflection (on another S’s work) answering the Q, “what do you see?” #AppleEDUChat
A3: ELA any grade- create an obstacle course representing a book setting and code @SpheroEdu to navigate through, Math middle grades- code sphero path to represent correlation of angles/degrees rotation #AppleEDUChat
A3 - Annually we usually do a history unit looking at Roman chariots and then have a @Sphero chariot #STEM design and race battle! I'm morphing this into a Star Wars Pod Race now. #AppleEDUChathttps://t.co/sy6Ypn8bqv
A3 - Often the best part of my #Robotics experiences are when I let students develop a custom build for a set purpose. This example was named "The Beast" and students made a portable claw for all sorts of tasks. #AppleEDUChathttps://t.co/sSC3kRd3bG
It’s a process and we did a lot of guiding with the students but with the help of @codeorg lessons, they’re genuinely creating applications with @scratch now. Would be happy to support in any way #AppleEDUchat

A3: also used @Sphero races for character review before a test this semester and Ss loved it! Such a fun way to get kids collaborating and talking about what they know! #appleeduchat
A2: My kids loved coding to create original animations of science processes...but now that they have seen how Keynote can be used to create animations, they tend to go to that instead #AppleEDUchat
Awesome! There is a great series for elementary students too, called Mati and Dada that are WONDERFUL! :) You'll have to check them out! :) #AppleEDUchat

Right?! These kids are SENIORS and they were so. freaking. excited. every time they got a right answer! It was hilarious and amazing all rolled into one! #AppleEDUchat
I try and share as many resources as I can about #STEM and their possibilities on my website. Is so exciting seeing how fast things are advancing in #edtech today. #AppleEDUchathttps://t.co/X2XHE3TFEi
A4 - The United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals are a wonderful #STEM resource because they allow teacher to make the STEM outcomes authentic and modern! #AppleEDUChathttps://t.co/1efMPyImrp
A4: One of my favorite resources that has been super successful in elementary is the Everyone Can Code Curriculum Guide and Multitouch Books #AppleEDUChathttps://t.co/g2RMSQEKkD
Working through each of my printers little quirks has been fun this year. ;) From the 3 @newmatter printers to my @ff3dprinters Finder to @DremelEdu and @makergear M2 printer…lots to learn! Getting some kids involved makes it easier. #appleeduchat

Thank you all for sharing your examples. I have been delightfully sidetracked by looking at these engaging activities you have done with your students #appleeduchat
Absolutely! It's a great "entry point" activity for Ts and Ss that are maybe a little less familiar with @Sphero. Keeps the focus on the content and lets them explore the functionality of the robot/app #AppleEDUchat
A4 One of my favorite multitouch books to share is Apple’s “Get Started with Code 1” Excellent for beginners and experienced coding teachers. #AppleEDUChathttps://t.co/QVWIBTl8qm
A4: Shameless plug for my Multitouch book “Creativity Through Making” that walks through a project I did where Ss created and 3d printed their own video game controllers that they designed for a specific game #AppleEDUChathttps://t.co/jrv3PbjQiy
The 1st graders recorded videos on @Flipgrid to thank the high school seniors who made them and tell them about the shapes. Awesome, for sure! #AppleEDUchat

For those talking about 3D printer ideas in #AppleEDUchat … if you have Apple TVs students can design Apple TV remote holders. Then use them in classrooms and show how useful that can be for simple projects.
I feel the biggest skill students of today need is perseverance and an ability think abstractly, to be courageous in though and actions and be willing to make mistakes. Easy to say, harder to do a lot of the time #AppleEDUchat
A5: Flexibility in repair, reading of manuals, persistence, fine motor skills! I feel like our students need to get back to being Makers, Breakers, and Fixers. Robotics helps with this development. #appleeduchat
A5: Flexibility, openness to taking risks, ability to reiterate an idea until it works out; these are skills that will make our kids successful in jobs that don't even exist yet #AppleEDUchat

Students worked to repair a water fountain button in my hallway by using our #3dprinter More math involved than they thought, and super useful. #appleeduchat

A5: I think kids have to learn to unplug from tech to fuel creativity too. With access to so many ideas online, it can be hard to be original rather than recreating. Ss have to learn to let their minds wander so they can be more original too :) #AppleEDUchat
A5 I would add writing and communication skills to what’s been said already. Students need to be able to effectively communicate what they’ve discovered to others. #AppleEDUchat
A5: Understanding the impact of the problem they are aiming to solve and empathy. Sometimes we forget how robotics solve day-to-day challenges for some folks. #appleEDUchat
So true! Tech makes it so much easier to persevere too! My kids love that they can "undo" and are much more willing to take risks because they can always try again :) Technology is much more forgiving than paper! #AppleEDUchat
The beauty and perspective in this is amazing! I will always be grateful to @trendingedtech for bringing drone tech into my world. He was able to share our local estuary from a whole new view. Talk about learning more than ever before. #appleeduchat
I have a group of kids creating some Braille 3D Puzzles for a younger student in our school who is blind. Similar to this: https://t.co/BJxRHSpKnC#AppleEDUChat
The first stage of our design process begins with sketching. We also teach aesthetics in our engineering classes. We make them use/develop both sides of the brain. #AppleEDUchat
AWWW! It's like you KNEW! lol I love using technology to have kids create videos, augmented reality projects, and interactive images. It takes their art to the next level and makes it come alive! :) Kind of reverse steam I suppose:) #AppleEDUchat#ArtTeacher#ArtTech
YES! Every time the students return I can't wait to see the footage! We have learned so much about our county they even made a movie! Autumn in Albert :) #AppleEDUChat#Dronographyhttps://t.co/T0Cxtsyr2Q
That’s fantastic! Builds empathy, community and drives home the importance of solving tangible, meaningful problems right there in the community! #AppleEDUchat
A6 We always try to add some sort of artistic element to projects. Like Ss creating @SpheroEDU Shape Paintings to be displayed in the school. Programming a shape path and letting the @Sphero paint it (Like @theipodteacher ) #AppleEDUChat
My class is all art wth technology integrated throughout. And it’s even more fun when when I collaborate with the STEM teacher, two Ts are double creative!#AppleEDUchat
A6 3rd/4th Grade Ss are using @Ozobot robots to re-create stories through drawing and using the robots path. They plan on "Reading" the interactive stories/Posters to our 4K students #AppleEDUChat
SO glad @cicohen tagged me in a tweet and pulled me into #AppleEDUchat tonight! Great topic, awesome questions, and amazing ideas from everybody! Happy Tuesday, guys!! :)
