Rob Leichner, MS Math Specialist in Charlotte, NC...I remembered tonight! (I'm currently writing our @cmsmathproblems Snow Day tweets for the students to keep sharp tomorrow!) #teachnvchat
A1 - Intentionality = Everything you do, planned and spontaneous, having a reason for doing it and a goal to achieve. Why did you ask that question? Why did you redirect that student? Why did/didn't you grade that assignment? Etc. #teachnvchat
A1... wow... start with the tough questions
A culture of working through struggles to meet an outcome and taking responsibility for that outcome
#teachnvchat
A1 Time is precious and limited. Realize that you have you be very purposeful in why standards say and what kids need. And deliberatelypkanning for that. #teachNVchat
Yes, East Coast represent! Also, I already had huge respect of course, but I have an even greater respect for K teachers now that Samantha is in K! You guys rock! #teachnvchat
A1: The things we do with intentionality are the ones that are prominently on our mental "To Do" list when we wake up, and if they don't get done, the day feels incomplete. #teachnvchat
I love that you included spontaneous decisions too bc sometimes I feel like when I make on the fly choices that I'm not being intentional. But I am making those choices bc I think they're best for the Ss #teachnvchat
A1: knowing why you are doing what you are doing; in teaching- the small tasks and lessons build to a greater understanding over time for Ss #teachnvchat
A1: making authentic choices, not "ok, sure." Articulating it when you are asked to do things you don't want to, knowing your intended purpose. #teachNVchat
A1: We often fool ourselves about how diligent we are in doing most things unless we do them with intentionality. If it's important, schedule it or give yourself multiple prompts to ensure you do it each day. #teachnvchat
Newcastle is one word... I went there for a soccer tournament once.
Perth, our greatest female soccer player is from there
They say soccer is how Australians learn geography. #teachNVchat
A1: One thing I've noticed is that most people do not truly notice others, give them authentic compliments, thank them, encourage them etc nearly as often as they think they do. It must be done with intentionality. #teachnvchat
Sorry I'm late! I think intentionality is doing things with a purpose. Even when I just binge watch a show on Netflix, I have intentions to be entertained and to unwind for a while #teachnvchat
A2 yes through reflection on @NBPTS@NBteaching you can see what worked and what didn’t, then make adjustments #teachnvchat I really learned intentionallity via @NBPTS
A2 - I thought the same thing Maggie.I don't know how you would "teach" it. Planning structures? Observing others? I think commitment to being intentional is key, then you work on how you can do it yourself within your class/life.(Maybe...I'm still working at it!) #teachnvchat
A2 I don’t think intentionality alone can Be taught. It comes from deep and honest reflection on your craft. It requires learning from others. #teachnvchat
Deciding and articulating is really important, Stacey! Sometimes I fall into the trap of being asked why I'm doing something or seeing something on sm and doing it even though it's not well connected to my overall purpose. #teachnvchat
Yeah I agree it is sort of an innate ability some have an easier time doing but all can get better at with practice being purposeful with choices & actions #teachNVchat
Oh I'm with you...football Sundays these days take lots of purposeful planning. Is it worth it to have my wife upset to watch the Giants lose this week while 2 toddlers run around the house? Lots of intentionality! #teachnvchat
A2: I agree @MaggieJCox modeling intentionality could be a good skill, especially in PLCs with newer Ts. Asking Ss why they make the choices they do helps foster reflection #teachnvchat
A2: Intentionality has to be systematic. Planned, scheduled, prompts created. Many educators put reminders in their attendance book, grade book, even on the walls - posters that encourage students but also remind them of who they want to be as an educator. #teachnvchat
Mary, do you have Ss or Ts in mind? I think it's important to teach young kids how to be intentional with their i.e. breathing, relationships, growth mindset #teachnvchat

Great question - I would think the prioritizing is a huge part of the intentional, purposeful planning. Because as we know, they all have to get done somehow! #teachnvchat
A2 yes through reflection on @NBPTS@NBteaching you can see what worked and what didn’t, then make adjustments #teachnvchat I really learned intentionallity via @NBPTS
A3 with empathy we lead to integrity , respect can only exist if honesty is there first. But empathy smooths the edges that truth and honesty can sometimes cut with #teachnvchat
A3: I think being honest, clear, authentic, and genuine in communication goes a long way towards intentional. Also work together on a task like a BHAG = Big Harry Audacious Goal. Share the same target. #teachNVchat
Not an easy feat, especially when mindsets may not match or meld, but if you're honest with yourself, it'll make it easier with colleagues #teachnvchat
I love this answer. Certain things are simply part of who you are. I'm newly obsessed w/this speech by President Reagan (from about 10:00 - 15:00) on how the values we build intentionally & through reflection influence the actions we take: https://t.co/vf4ynXmVu0#teachnvchat
A2 I don’t think intentionality alone can Be taught. It comes from deep and honest reflection on your craft. It requires learning from others. #teachnvchat
I agree that intentionality is important in all parts of our lives, not just teaching. I try to be intentional about making time to exercise, journal, planning and reading each day. #teachnvchat
They "why" about students thinking is the heart of learning-are students connecting to other learning-are there misconceptions or gaps in understanding? this is where the real teaching starts #teachNVchat
A3: build and maintain relationships. My #oneword2018 is “responsive” and my thinking is that by living out that word, I will deepen ties with others #teachNVchat
A3: First and foremost, you have to care. Learn to love who you are, who you work with, and what you do. Honest conversations are uncomfortable, but they mean you care enough to have them. Intentionality means something is a high priority for you. #teachnvchat
YES! because we have a finite amount of time! That's why I like having a paper planner where I can write down my to dos and work out how I'm going to accomplish them. #teachnvchat
Yes the honest answer with the why behind it-being real & being that way all the time creates the relationships that allow us to be intentional #teachNVchat
