Good morning, everyone! Ready for my first day with Ss!

Happy Thursday, crew! Topic: "How're you going to share a love of learning with Ss & encourage them to develop their own love?"
I was up WAY TOO EARLY! No likey. I'm all for the excitement of the new school year. But 3:30am is the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT!
-"steph curry" Good morning all! Michelle from Ontario here. Grade 1/2. 47 degrees yesterday. No A/C! https://t.co/JdsEPEXrXK
Love of learning? I'll share my own. Things I'm learning that fascinate me. Help them follow their passion/interests.
I tell them every day how much I love to read and write. Follow your passion! They want to read my book! https://t.co/IOEYjVRJAK
Happy Thursday, crew! Topic: "How're you going to share a love of learning with Ss & encourage them to develop their own love?"
it's going well! I love my classes this year, all 68 students!
Good morning .
Brian, HS principal from Mass.
So this Q hits me at an interesting time. Our new grading policy implies a level of student involvement. I need next steps.
Nerds of a feather flock together here at the ...
Good morning, everyone! Jennifer from WI checking in today.
I'm Mark from Indiana and I am a tech integrationist and taught in the classroom for 19 years
RT: Topic: "How're you going to share a love of learning with Ss & encourage them to develop their own love?"
Share my love of learning. I talk about my own and invite them to learn together. We try new things.
Day 2 and I'm waking up to the earworm of "When Doves Cry".
Do I need to be concerned?
G'morning', !
I reel them in with my coolness & caring attitude, then Bam! Hit them with a side of nerdiness! Little by little I let it peek out
Good morning peeps. David MS Principal from VA here. Hope everyone is doing great!
Ridiculous, but it happens:/ 😴
I love telling Ss that I'm still in school and will always be a student. Talking with 5th grade about their aspirations today!
I constantly talk about things I learn from them, from my kids at home, in my classes and from books.
I also tell them that I get the brightest, most interested students.
I jumped out of bed at 3:45 then Promptly jumped back in
A buddy of mine and I discussed having conferences based on "I Can" Statements with kids, to promote the idea of practice.
How do you share your passions?
Model.
Model.
Model.
Truth. https://t.co/de87najRx3
I love telling Ss that I'm still in school and will always be a student. Talking with 5th grade about their aspirations today!
On my intake survey this year, I asked Ss: "What has a teacher done to impress you in the past?" Almost 1/2 of responses re: passion
Give Ss the space & time to connect everything they are learning to things they care about (PBL style). https://t.co/hU0jBy92I5
We also talk a lot about WHY we study and practice certain things.
Yikes! That has to be humidex, right? Either way: oof! I'm on the St. Clair River, so we had some relief. But not much.
Projects like , , , twitter, make them love school
You need next steps for you or for Ss?
Good morning ! Stacey from NJ. Excited for day three. Chromebooks go out to Ss today!
What kind of s involvement are you talking about? Planning, action, review?
Good Morning Kimberly! How are you?
Good morning! Short weeks move so fast but I am up and moving with them.
also relates to love of learning: Ss reflect: I can...
Sharing a love of learning by building relationships, giving them choice and voice and modelling my passion for reading.
Good morning, . I'm Ku, Learning Coach, Argentina.
Wait. That's not normal? Huh. That's an awful discovery 10 years later :/
and things they can't do yet- "I will"
My centers all had "I can" statements. 😉 https://t.co/FXCTXnpn3j
A buddy of mine and I discussed having conferences based on "I Can" Statements with kids, to promote the idea of practice.
Good morning all - this early rising in beginning to catch up w me
At least it's not The Biebs!
Hi is anyone seeing my tweets? they seem to not want to actually tweet.
Today we are working on auras in
Aaaaand now we all have that ear worm. But nobody's upset. *dances in chair*
I have more contact with Ts than Ss these days, but I try to get Ts excited about new tech/methods and hope that transmits to Ss
68 opportunities for you to make a positive impact. Now that's exciting! Have a great school year!
We work to take the focus OFF stand. testing & put it on making learning exciting, then help them find their way
My class is working on I Wonder projects before school. My twist on genius hour. https://t.co/LXUboml12T
Happy Thursday, crew! Topic: "How're you going to share a love of learning with Ss & encourage them to develop their own love?"
I see you Denis - I see you!
I need to figure out how to get students to care about work that isn't graded. I'm sure we will figure it out.
For me it's all about modelling my own curiosity about the world and love of learning. And it's not an act.
I was up early too, though not that early (4:20). I blame and !
I would like to develop a safe space in my classroom where Ss can learn from each other as well as from me.
I keep a list of books I'm reading for the quarter on the board. & confer w/ Ss during IR time to recommend books
Good morning! I plan to share my enthusiasm and make it fun.
When my Ss see my passion for what I'm learning/teaching, that passion becomes contagious. They want in on the fun.
Yes! Show that taking time every day to work on mindfulness, reflection, Genus Hr, etc. are just as important.
awesome! Thanks for staying up with me last night. Hopefully you're energized for today!
Saw an article that said kids who love school do better on tests. Makes sense, but we forget.
any more thoughts about nerd camp? I'm holding a date on my calendar, thinking you may be up by my way
There's the crack of dawn and then there's the butt crack of dawn...
I think it's so important to remind our Ss what we are learning from them! Great point!
Ss know that you are learning alongside them is powerful (and also can put Ss at ease with trying new approach to learning)
It's also important that our Ss see us as learners too. We walk the walk.
I'll take that blame, and invite you back next week shamelessly.
I know, Cletus! My love, compassion, and enthusiasm gets to be spread THAT much further! I love it!
I share the books I am reading - from classics to beach trash - and talk about what 'm Iearning about now, including my failures.
That's never stopped our friend https://t.co/N2Xrvtf0mN
I was up WAY TOO EARLY! No likey. I'm all for the excitement of the new school year. But 3:30am is the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT!
the idea is that we score formative assessments but dont grade them. I love it. the how will be somewhat tricky.
I'm going to share my learning & my projects and encourage them to do the same. Making & robotics will be big this year.
Oh, man! you had to go there? "Ba-by, ba-by, please" (make it stop!)
For AP part of summer assignment is science❤: show me you at museum, Natl park, Google alert, talk w scientist, watch a documentary
Another very humid day for CT. I am almost out of nice warm weather clothes. Where is ?
Invite Ss to share curiosity. Get help w your question of the day, week, month. Who knew? How do we find answers?
great discussion last night - and I have the coffees!
I see this one asking if I see it.
Nice! Very inclusive of all ideas.
Awesome, Life-long Learner! 😊😊😊
Or we r forced to forget to get that almighty passing mark. ?
Brian and I finally get kids in the lab today! All day! oh and as of yesterday I am officially heading to ! It's a great day
Our Ts posted speech bubbles outside of our classrooms. Yesterday I had Ss write statements. They were great!
SOOO important. We did our meditation yesterday. Ss were AWESOME. Nobody wanted to move too hot.
revisions with follow up act that leads to final product-portfolios?
I ask Ss (11th & 12th grade) to tell me how they consider themselves to be smart. No negative answers.
May be out of classroom, but I'm working with Ss during Clubs, Global Leadership, Coding Club, & MS Advisory. Love it all!
Honestly, if not more. My Ss learned more from those things than written curriculum.
By showing my passion and sharing it with them, hopefully it's models for them, & it catches a fire within them !
Love that – by opening and sharing own ideas and interests, it builds relationships and motivates others!
right? That thing just keeps churning in the skull...
That's awesome! We are doing a combination of that and Maker Space. It's my favorite time of the day:)
I am crazy about writing & reading. I make sure my Ss see me doing both in the classroom.
Rigor is great, but it can't come before strong relationships AND relevance to what Ss care about. Otherwise we're pushing a rope.
In my work w Ts to help them find ways to make time for Ss to make, create, and explore.
Good Point. There was also something about challenging Ss daily also resulted in higher scores.
I see it. Good morning Denis!

I managed to fall back to sleep. Now I need to get moving! I get 5 more minutes for
Sounds like a recipe for sun and success!! https://t.co/wC1urOBhk8
I reel them in with my coolness & caring attitude, then Bam! Hit them with a side of nerdiness! Little by little I let it peek out
I share by modeling and asking questions. I try make connections and encourage them to do the same. Sharing through inquiry
Oh, no, is Denis wearing his Harry Potter invisibility cloak again?!
I try to do the same. Curiosity should be the catalyst for powerful learning.
Not easy to explain in 140 characters, but speaking sincerely while looking Ss in the eye never hurts. https://t.co/tkH39U3q6a
Happy Thursday, crew! Topic: "How're you going to share a love of learning with Ss & encourage them to develop their own love?"
That sounds very progressive and the direction we should be heading in edu-assessing Ss growth and not assigning a letter
Would love to read that one. Have a link?
I admit I need their help every day. I love learning together.
A teacher's excitement about their subject can be contagious. If a teacher isn't excited, can't expect our students to be
We do the same. In grade book it shows Y or N for completion. Some Ss only care about graded assignments. https://t.co/6zCn6EExpB
the idea is that we score formative assessments but dont grade them. I love it. the how will be somewhat tricky.
give Ss ownership I'm being more responsive to Ss interests and personalizing learning & I model enthusiasm bc I LOVE science
Perfect! Have fun:) Learn tons!
I do struggle with this question because sometimes I encounter Ts who have the "I got my degree, I'm finished" mindset
No (bows head in shame). If I run across it again, I will send your way.
pushing a rope-great visual
that is kinda crazy - one should not have to live an entire day before 5th period ends
I always like talking ab the things I like learning about outside of school and bringing it in. This Q goes handily w .
After opening up and sharing interests & ideas, it's important to consistently model them daily to show commitment
Have you read anything by ? A standards based approach can do this. https://t.co/LWWshfhj7A
I need to figure out how to get students to care about work that isn't graded. I'm sure we will figure it out.
exactly, if we looked & act bored they will also ! (PS so hot !!)
I get it. Not every learning experience has a rubric. It's not about points.
yep. I love the idea. But my task is getting teachers from the old way to the new way.
Where are you in CT? I am in CT as well.
Personal and professional passions should most definitely be shared with Ss. Listen to them & embrace their ideas.
Morning! How r things in Norfolk? Good start?
creative grading is a great way to increase intrinsic motivation
It was good--book fair arrived, so today I finish setting up while also opening. Hope you're feeling better!
It does work! 4 weeks in and I haven't "graded" anything. Just growth/improve focused feedback. Love it!
Good morning, Ellen! How are you?
Kids love to learn ... Just not always what we are teaching, must connect with them ... To their passions
I feel like I'm sleep-tweeting. Hope I'm making sense! How are you?
yes also makes us "real" & relatable to Ss
both today and when I go to Toronto! 8th graders talking digital citizenship in the lab
Yeah right (about both things you just tweeted)
what not a better way to model and illustrate a love for learning! You rock!
Have you tried ? https://t.co/HjlhfpiWJX
For me it's all about modelling my own curiosity about the world and love of learning. And it's not an act.
Love of learning has to include using knowledge, Ss need to connect w 'why' of courses
Good luck-that will be tricky to get buy in across the board when "school" has been done in another way for so long
And when that passion of learning is obviously shared and modeled across a school, you have magic.
exactly. and not every learning experience is worth a grade.
I introduced myself via Animoto this year. Doing that verbally 5X in a row makes my brain hurt! https://t.co/wO5ezlGSBm
I share my broad (weird) range of interests w Ss to kick those "if you like this, you CAN't like this" ideas in the pants
Near where I grew up in Meriden!
Our craft is ever evolving & so should we."We've always done it this way"is not best practice! Learn, grow. https://t.co/F1Y06MxJ81
I do struggle with this question because sometimes I encounter Ts who have the "I got my degree, I'm finished" mindset
I also talk to kids & ask about things I don't understand. Shows them I am learning ab them too
You're going to need tools that allow assessment of S progress while they work
grading formative asgnmts helps stu see where they are and gives them opp to try again. Gr8 strtgy.
Wondering how has been. Long time no chat
so we are in our 1st year now. Lots of discussion last year. but I wish my teachers had more time to play with this.
The power of yet and I can combined together creates a powerful mindset
such a smart way to make it simple.
Hi
Carl from Avonsleigh Australia
It's my birthday tomorrow and I get to dress as a wizard for medieval day
Morning, buddy! Love your bow tie:). I'm not usually so dressed up for :)
You are a 'model' of effective assessment for all of us! 😊
So much is not about that! We need to give Ss time to make mistakes to learn. We grade what/how they deal!
That's true! I'm anxiously awaiting cooler weather down here so I can open the windows.
Craig couldn't possibly be sleeping... could he?
Showing our own passion for learning will model for them that school can be cool. walk the talk, people!
gotta look good for my peeps !!
Yes! described it as collecting hobbies. That's so me!
I was thinking about him yesterday! Maybe he decided to sleep during the night in California!
Getting kids to understand that it is about the learning not the grade
So very true -- if we let them do that, we'll be the ones running to catch up with them! https://t.co/SEk5b4nm2Y
Kids love to learn ... Just not always what we are teaching, must connect with them ... To their passions
It's been a long journey, but well worth it!
If they get strong feedback, it may eventually mean more to them than a grade
No way, not Craig. He's probably getting donuts somewhere https://t.co/gOfpSA4xj4
Craig couldn't possibly be sleeping... could he?
Its apparently going to be crazy hot today. Cant wait.
today's digital citizenship discussion will be a lot about learning outside of school
Time is necessary-we are running into something similar with PLCs-we know we want it but not enough time yet to look at it
if I could afford it, I'd keep getting more degrees!
How awesome is that!?!?! https://t.co/iKiQvkd42c
Hi
Carl from Avonsleigh Australia
It's my birthday tomorrow and I get to dress as a wizard for medieval day
There's performance, participation and progress. I've learned to assess all 3, not just the 1st
Giving Ss permission to struggle w/o penalty. Success comes at a cost, but the cost shouldn't be self-esteem
https://t.co/sZ0CWutQ1b
Happy Thursday, crew! Topic: "How're you going to share a love of learning with Ss & encourage them to develop their own love?"
Your energy is contagious:). I'm so glad you like your new edventure:)
yes some of the best days are off curriculum or plan, if Ss are showing passion & interest, lets go with it https://t.co/X4BysMHrR2
So very true -- if we let them do that, we'll be the ones running to catch up with them! https://t.co/SEk5b4nm2Y
Kids love to learn ... Just not always what we are teaching, must connect with them ... To their passions
Also agree. Also important to create a place where Ss can make mistakes, learn from those mistakes and grow.
That's what I call the cloning effect...where Ss collab to hep each other grow & I simply facilitate the growth. Amazing.
I share my passion by letting my students know they are know. Once there is the connection passion becomes a shared experience.
Yes! I've run into those "I'm not a student anymore, I'm a professional!"
I'll tweet some of the Medieval activities. It will be in your evening.
Seriously, Manny was right. We are better than a great cup of coffee:)
Whole-heartedly agree, and I don't give up on those Ts, I just try to find something else to engage the.
Well ladies and gents, I've got to feed the doggies. Have a great day!!!
I've been charged with planning a literacy fair this year. Looking forward to pulling together some cool stuff!
So one of my tech standards is to discuss how social media effects the larger world... I am really looking forward to that
Less testing for outcome & more choices for students to test their limits and learn how to overcome https://t.co/9KzCmlWeZ0
Another great topic today! Have a great day everyone!
True. but lets not go crazy. we can still have both.
I just cannot syllabus the 1st day of school.
It is my hope to instill joy for students, teachers and parents. Simply joy.
Have a great day everyone!
Good morning, Carl! Happy Birthday & I'm a little jealous of the dressing as a wizard thing. But happy for you!
And I'm always looking for opps to tie their own outside interests to a task - how can you advance *all* of your learning?
OK everyone! Have a great day! Inspire those young minds with your love of learning! 👉this lady👈 has to go get ready for the day!
So true! Time with colleagues is precious. Learn from one another-not just admin!
Created a video to explain grading policy. On chalkboard in video is this "You are more important than a grade"
I have a knack for making your day more interesting:)
Great discussion this morning. What a way to begin the day!
Thanks .
they are only going to do so much "in the lab" I want them to be aware that this is much bigger than that
I explain to Ss that success requires constant learning I point 2 figures they know 2 make it relevant
You could use as an example of how we share, learn & spread ideas around the world w/each other https://t.co/X2DsX3vzL1
So one of my tech standards is to discuss how social media effects the larger world... I am really looking forward to that
Stay tuned! I'm looking for teachers to participate in a traveling journal project. Much like flat Stanley, but with a writing jrnl.
Big smile:). Hope you all have an awesome Thursday!
Stay the course! Very inspiring, Ben!
Agree. One of the most important (and often hardest) things we can teach them! https://t.co/O8ss8tdT9r
Getting kids to understand that it is about the learning not the grade
These 15 mins always go by so fast! Have a great Thursday everyone!
I didn't even know that was a thing until last year. (Thanks !).
Ok folks. Gotta run. Remember that you have this great team behind you.
At the moment, the book fair. It's pirate themed. If I could figure out how to be a wizard-pirate...
happy birthday for tomorrow Carl. Dress ups are always a way to connect and communicate passion
Oh I'm in!!!! 🙋🏼 https://t.co/OMLBi1baRo
Stay tuned! I'm looking for teachers to participate in a traveling journal project. Much like flat Stanley, but with a writing jrnl.
Oh, I cannot ever be -- though I aspire to is greatness. And I love his tip to keep ice cream at school
Great to see you,! One of these days you'll have to check out my pals:)
Give Ss ownership, voice, times to be silly, give peer to peer feedback, teambuild, explore passions. https://t.co/MluAJPKLep
It's Ed related. Google it and you'll find tons of info. is THE guru!
I started them off by stu putting their wonders on stickies ea Wed. Now it is a 9 week before school prjct
Awesome discussion today! Ready to inspire, forgive, teach, and nurture. Thanks for all the insight
Have a great day, Friends. Already off to an awesome start.
def!, but it will also be an chance to discuss social justice, how SM is used to find loved ones, start revolutions
More than subject material. How do you treat Ss? How is your clssrm arranged? Ss can pick up your excitement in many ways.
Have a thoughtful Thursday!
Dressing like a pirate is equally as fun! Rock that sister!
I share my personal story & how I'm always learning and that they teach me everyday
So we can dish it out, but:) Mr U you crack me up:)
Yes...once there's a grade on an assignment they don't look past it to feedback.
I know! I'm paying tons just for workshops!
Enjoy Thoughtful Thursday friends! Worth some discussion with Ss about what it means to be thoughtful. 😊😉😊
so far just a lot of behind the scenes work. Today I get to spend some legit time with kids, excited!
Great perspective! Joy matters and not just for students! Everyone should be in the learning cycle. https://t.co/YHMwI8JOM6
It is my hope to instill joy for students, teachers and parents. Simply joy.
I'm still giggling about Christina's donut comment
YES! YES! YES! Every student must see success every day. It's down to me to ensure that happens and I acknowledge it.
What a great thing to each kids! Keep us in the loop! https://t.co/PV7reRnnjI
def!, but it will also be an chance to discuss social justice, how SM is used to find loved ones, start revolutions
-"steph curry" Well my friends..time to go into the heat! Yesterday my clothing changed states of matter! https://t.co/JbEoYYJkxn

Definitely - the writing workshop format spread to all subjects.
that's what I was hoping. An exciting start to their day. Kind of like is for me!
Lifelong learning & continual growth is what makes teaching such an exciting profession!
Waiting to read a blog on how it's going in your new school Brian!
yes, Carla, I wholeheartedly concur!
Have a great "Think Outside the Box Thursday" (That's what we call it in my class) everyone!
Let a burning question spark a burning pursuit! Answers are out there.. Go get them
Actually that's redundant, but we were it proudly!!!!!! ❤NY. https://t.co/087JDbrLdf
I'm an obnoxious NY sports fan. It's how we roll (over Philly fans!)
Yes, you must model and be enthusiastic about learning
Currently a bit overwhelmed with school work. Hopefully I can get caught up and rejoin Twitter.
Good morning 🤗 Caiti from Canada🇨🇦 hope everyone has a great Thursday 😉
I get very excited about the material/ subject! If I'm excited and ready to learn, than they will feed off that energy.
It helps to make learning fun with activities, videos, games, KWL charts. Give them a good hook and the rest will follow 👍🏻
Happy Thursday crew! Topic: "How're you going to share a love of learning with Ss & encourage them to develop their own love?"

Happy Thursday crew! Topic: "How're you going to share a love of learning with Ss & encourage them to develop their own love?"
For sure! If T is passionate about subject, it comes across to the Ss. Helps makes a difference. https://t.co/xos0WOibbX

Good morning! I hope your day is starting well?
Passion should drive learning. When we allow kids to tap into their passion, they thrive
Wow! Can't believe there aren't more teachers on central time.
It's 8:45pm Thursday night, my day was full and busy but wonderful! May you have a similar Thursday,
Leveraging how kids learn in informal spaces &bringing that 2 school nurtures love of learning. I learned by watching my kids @ home
Although and are great company
yeah. CT seems to be quiet around here :/. I'm ET but this time works better
Usually would be joining from the train but her commuting path didn't warrant today

Get to know the Ss as learners, their interests, and learning styles
Yes! & the kids can definitely see which teachers have a passion for what they are doing.

I am SO guilty of this in World History. We've been talking about the fight for the South China Sea https://t.co/WSx91yHe9n

Morning, . 1 way is staying connected & sharing w/Ss what I'm reading, seeing, hearing, writing learning myself. 1/2
Another way is asking Qs about what Ss say/see/read/write/share themselves. S taught me Wed about all the bassists named John 2/2
