Good Morning, #nt2t Glad to catch you all and take a breaking from packing and cleaning! Happy almost Thanksgiving! Trish in TN, 6th social studies and 6-12 community partnerships.
Welcome Lindsay, awesome to have you with us! Hope your 1st year is going well...last year was my first year and I remember how it was around this point. Positive vibes! #nt2t
Morning Everyone! I am Julie; co-founder of #NT2t I am a tech trainer in higher ed. Many people who made a difference in my life including 2 people who are my kids Godparents.
Parent of an eighth grader here. This was parent/teacher conference and @UnifiedTheater performance week so I’ve been reflective on what the experience is like for teachers working with that age. #nt2t
As for the person who made a difference - since this is about a Twitter - it is @vicpasquantonio - who took a chance on me and my teaching methodology. https://t.co/yCbrZO76fH I may have left teaching without her #Nt2t
A1 I have learned so much from people over the world. I have found MY people as well - those who share my interests and took me off of my island. #Nt2t
A1: Twitter opened the door to global learning. So many wonderful educators to learn with and from, so much content, so many new topics - so it's a powerful tool to be thankful for. #nt2t
A1. It's given me a community of people who are working towards similar goals w/their Ss but in a wide variety of ways who share their awesome strategies & resources. It's added to my own reflection questions too. #nt2t
A1: Has helped to understand the global impact of PLNs, helped me see myself as an inquirer/seeker, problem-solver, helped eliminate barriers to reaching out to people who write, lead, and are in this game with me. #nt2t
A1: It has reinforced the saying "it's a small world after all". And the understanding that learning is an all-round experience - cognitive, social, emotional and mental. #nt2t
A1: Only been in education 1&1/2 years but never knew the extent of PLCs and PLNs. Hearing different ideas and experiences helps shape my teaching philosophy. #nt2t
A1 Twitter has allowed me to connect with educators and listen and understand their views and issues. Helping me to support teachers in a better way. #nt2t
A1) Twitter has changed everything in a way because it’s given me a sense of belonging in the education space. Didn’t have many global forums before to be part of the discussion. #nt2t
A1b. It's also given me a way to connect my current Ss to Ss & Ts I worked with in my overseas years for their insights as we study Global Cultures. #NT2t
A1: Twitter has helped me see that my classroom is so much bigger than 4 walls, and that I have just as much education ahead of me as my 1st graders! #nt2t
Danielle from Georgia. I just passed edTPA to receive my certification. I am finishing my student teaching to receive my Masters degree in Teaching and hope to have my own classroom soon! My high school history teacher! 👨🏼🏫 And my mother! 👩🏻🏫 #nt2t
Not the beach but to a family get together that doubles as a joint birthday party for my brother, a sister and me. I got the cake with the sentimental inscription. #NT2t

The power of twitter has opened the education app world, validated by educational vision, connected me to the world & provided countless resources & opportunities for students and personal growth #nt2t
A1: Has helped to understand the global impact of PLNs, helped me see myself as an inquirer/seeker, problem-solver, helped eliminate barriers to reaching out to people who write, lead, and are in this game with me. #nt2t
A1: It has opened me up to global learning! I have been able to build a PLN and find resources and articles to help me with beginning my teaching career! #nt2t
A1: Twitter makes it easy to be a lifelong learner! Rather than having to plow my way through books, I can interact and bounce ideas off of colleagues and peers...much more my learning style! #nt2t
A1: Only been in education 1&1/2 years but never knew the extent of PLCs and PLNs. Hearing different ideas and experiences helps shape my teaching philosophy. #nt2t
A2: Twitter has motivated me to teach both practicing teachers and my pre-service teachers about chats as a way to enrich their PLN. It has also helped me to grow and reach out to others when I have questions or need help. #nt2t
A2: Via Twitter was intro'd to books like #ditchbook and #ShiftThis that has led to changes in homewrk policies and teaching focus (among many other changes that have shaped my class this year) #nt2t
A2 - For me, it has helped to fight of stagnation in my teaching...Seeing others reading, writing, conversing, etc. keeps me inspired to do the same. #nt2t
A1: Twitter makes it easy to be a lifelong learner! Rather than having to plow my way through books, I can interact and bounce ideas off of colleagues and peers...much more my learning style! #nt2t
A1: Twitter has shown me that I am not confined to just learning in my classroom. There are so many people out there with great ideas & resources — Twitter connects me to them! #nt2t
A2: Twitter has opened doors to educators and people I would not normally connect with. With that comes ideas that are new and encourage me to step up my game. #Nt2t
A2: As a science teacher, I love finding new labs or ways to model content. Getting to see pictures and have tips, allows me to be better prepared and gives my kids experiences they will hopefully relate the content to! #nt2t
Makes me wonder whether differentiation works the other way too—for some adult learners it just wouldn’t fit. Though all would benefit from finding a way to connect with others. #nt2t
A1: Twitter makes it easy to be a lifelong learner! Rather than having to plow my way through books, I can interact and bounce ideas off of colleagues and peers...much more my learning style! #nt2t
Cool -- I just sent home an optional Family Challenge that covers our course work so far - Global Cultures Bingo- and they were thrilled to take it. #nt2t
A2: Twitter is always a reminder to scrutinize my teaching process. Twitter is the way keep up-to-date with methods, tools, ideas. So it's the best motivation #nt2t
Hmmm, good point. I could definitely see how the fast pace and sheer amount of people here could be overwhelming. Is there another platform that would be better? #nt2t
A2 we ran a padlet with a class in France, created comics w/students in Norway on civil rights, Skyped with ABCNews editors in NY and Paris... https://t.co/KDzdpGMmO7 all through magic of twitter contacts #Nt2thttps://t.co/KDzdpGMmO7
I'm not on the Periscope train yet. I tried Voxer and there is definitely value there, but it was hard for me to keep up with how busy I was. Maybe I should try again... #nt2t
A3. It's allowed some colleagues (large numbers are not on Twitter), some people in admissions and in development to know what I am up to. Ps are slowly following but more so on the community service posts than the classroom ones. #nt2t
A3: Not as many of my in building colleagues engaged with Twitter yet. But has allowed me to connect with other in-district colleagues I probably would not have otherwise. Not used w parents #nt2t
A2: I have already found tons of ways to use technology in the classroom via Twitter! I am not very tech savvy and I am having so much fun learning new ways to engage Ss through technology! I can’t wait to try them in my own classroom! #nt2t
A3 Since most parents and likely a lot of your colleagues are on Facebook, you can be the leader and source of all things Twitter. Maybe you can inspire the others to jump over. But don't hold your breath. #NT2t
@JeremyDBond This is the challenge-- I never expected so much enthusiasm and cannot wait to see their results and photos! Some faculty are playing too. #nt2t
A3: I have connected deeper with colleagues by first asking if they are on Twitter, then seeing cool things they were posting on Twitter and being able to conversate about them.
#nt2t
One of the most valuable aspects of Twitter is the interaction. When trying new ideas you can ask for help, feedback, encouragement, or celebration! #nt2t
Q3: Largely b/c of Twitter, I know the answers to questions my colleagues want answers to. It helps me to be a contributor to my field. As a parent, it helps keep me in the know. #nt2t
A3: I think having a Twitter page that parents could interact with provides them with a front seat in your classroom & they will feel more involved in their child’s education #NT2t
A3: I am unable connect much with parents on social media due to where I teach, but I am able to connect with my colleagues outside of work and learn more about them. This opens doors to closer relationships and a better camaraderie. #Nt2t
A3: Transparency and communication is key to building those relationships. Twitter is one way to do just that. It's not the ONLY way, but it is one of several #NT2t
Yes, me too. We're focusing on map practice in small chunks over time & I think that's been refreshing and a relief since they're getting plenty elsewhere. #nt2t
A3b: With my colleagues, it’s tricky. I share what I’m learning when I feel like it will benefit the person. Most are afraid to innovate or are quick to tell me things won’t work without even trying. It’s a challenge. #nt2t
True. I think that setting a mindset is the most important, and getting out of the isolationist mentality. First reaching out within a building, then a community, and then the world. #babysteps#nt2t
Helping parent see into the classroom makes a huge difference to them. We shared pics of an activity and parents were really pleased as children don't always go home and say what they have done #nt2t
A3) As a parent, I think Twitter has the potential to transform the connection to our kids’ classrooms. But only a couple of their teachers have used it. #nt2t
A4 A role of becoming a role model to others who are seeking one. Role models motivate you to be better and stronger. It creates a positive learning environment. #nt2t
A3: With where I teach Twitter cannot be used for parent communication but as the only biology teacher in the county it is a great way to connect with other biology teachers around the area! #nt2t
Q3: I could create my own Twitter page for Ps that includes a Weekly or bi-weekly Twitter chat to answer questions or concerns. Using Twitter to improve relationships with Ps and encourage them to be involved in their child’s learning process sounds like a good idea to try! #nt2t
I teach within MO’s Juvenile Justice system. So, any communication with parents needs to be done at work. Due to policy we do not use social media for communication purposes. #Nt2t
Stories shapes us who we are. They are the center of what we do! They are always welcomed and worth hearing. Like I say "behind each student is an untold story". #nt2t
Maps - I'm the geo teacher. We focus on Africa 1st semester and Asia 2nd. It seems that my Ss get plenty of HW in math & F. Lang to keep them busy. #nt2t
Oh, I love that! I haven't heard the idea to do a Twitter chat with parents before! One thing to make clear to them though is that everything is public...one of the potential drawbacks of Twitter. #nt2t
The content people tweet can show you their world quickly. It could easily allow to get to know someone by seeing who they follow and what they tweet! #nt2t
At our 8th grader’s student-led conference this week, we learned that many kids were overly focused on good grades at the expense of taking risks. Our daughter said it was pressure from other parents. Sounds like they’re an important target for sure. #nt2t
I was nervous presenting the "no homework" to parents at Open House but most were open. Had a few request packets or practice pages. But happy to see parents realizing there is no magic to nightly worksheets
A4: As a new teacher I have found that education is the most uplifting place to be a novice. Almost everyone I encounter has been empathetic & so supportive. I think Twitter provides a larger platform for more teachers who need empathy & advice in their challenges #NT2t
2 of my students just present on risk taking & challenge related to choosing their level in my class at a 6th grade parent coffee. Parent reaction was great for the girls to see. Even better for Ps to hear girls' thoughts & process. #nt2t
A4: I feel Twitter can help build empathy by getting everyone's stories out there. When you are able to openly see and feel all sides how can it not build your empathy? #Nt2t
Yes, so true! I had an opposite experience in that I did not have a lot of support in person, so Twitter was a wonderful place to keep my spirits up. #nt2t
A4: The opportunity to connect with others globally can NOT be understated or utilized. Twitter provides Ts & Ss the opportunity to connect, build relationships, and share our beliefs, cultures, values. It a window to our world! #NT2t
It doesn’t take much. When we had it in pre-K and K, it was mostly sharing what they were doing and the class’s tweet of the day. We haven’t experienced a window onto the classroom like that since. #nt2t
That’s awesome that you are having this experience. When some of us first starting teaching, it wasn’t like that for us. I’m glad it is different for you. #Nt2t
That's how I ended up here too, a class requirement! I was auditing the class, and friends with the professor, so I told her I thought it was dumb and useless and I wouldn't use it. @SFecich sure proved me wrong. #nt2t
Q4: Using Twitter to listen to Ss opinions of the class and even let Ss give new ideas on how you (Ts) could improve the class. Ex: new technology Ss are interested in or a cool project idea! #nt2t
So glad Twitter was a place of empathy for you. I am incredibly thankful for the school & the teachers I work with. They have made my first year teaching such a great experience. I could see Twitter being a safe haven for those who lack the empathy at their schools! #nt2t
Q4: Using Twitter to listen to Ss opinions of the class and even let Ss give new ideas on how you (Ts) could improve the class. Ex: new technology Ss are interested in or a cool project idea! #nt2t
Sweet. Students can be the best spokespeople for changing adult mindsets. And there’s student leadership in the process. #HackingHomework#stuvoice#nt2t
2 of my students just present on risk taking & challenge related to choosing their level in my class at a 6th grade parent coffee. Parent reaction was great for the girls to see. Even better for Ps to hear girls' thoughts & process. #nt2t
So even something that little was greatly appreciated? Good to know. I tend to be 'all or nothing' and really bad at baby steps, but that would be a great way to get started. #nt2t
Hey Nicholas! Thanks for popping in! This is why I love getting Ts to join #NT2t - we have a global audience & this gives everyone a chance to connect with each other.
I can express my interest and what it’s done for me. But I’d need more parents on board too. Think I need a team of Twitter believers regardless of role. #nt2t
Hi Julie and Jeremy, I think it is vital in today's Hi-Tech world for Ts to be on Twitter, so much to learn. So more people propagating the usefulness of Twtr the better, Ps included! #NT2t
A5: I try to appreciate others on a more personal level, by taking interest in both personal and professional and being both a friend and colleague. #nt2t
A5: #nt2t#WhyIWrite has been a great vehicle for appreciating others' reasons to write. I also feel loved and appreciated when others comment, love, or retweet my thinking. Twitter chat responses in some ways are gifts of words. #inspire#encourage#appreciate
A5: I love communicating and giving props to others on social media. I think we all feel good when people brag on us! Post a funny picture...a trophy...a GIF! Put it out there! #Nt2t
#Nt2t (Jumping in late.) I used #flipgrid w/ my Ss and it has a share feature. Might take some of their posts and post to twitter. (Yes, I have media release forms.)
Sure, but it doesn’t have to be all parents. I say that cause there aren’t many parents around here who are on either! Could team up with an educator or two who are connected. #nt2t
Welllll, baby has been awake for the last 15 minutes, but happy until the last few minutes. And hubby is on baby duty until the chat is over, so I'm good! Pants on the head...a classic of children everywhere. :D #nt2t
Seems to be the prevailing idea. Wonder how we break that for people still holding on to that idea. Sharing what we find is one way of course but... #nt2t

A6 Thankful to have met fascinating people and learning from them. Knowing that I will always have a great PLN with me. Its like a education family. #nt2t
Q5: Tagging people in inspirational Tweets to let them know you are thinking of them and how much you appreciate them. In the case of Ss, Ts could put a comment on a class Twitter page that Ss made in class to show you appreciate their participation in class discussion. #nt2t
A5: I think by posting a picture of your class using someone's idea would be the quickest and easiest way to show appreciation. Showing how you could take someones idea and implement it into your classroom would be all I would need! #nt2t
A6: I am most thankful for the relationships I have been able to build here. Even though I have not met MANY of my tweeps f2f, I still feel so connected to you. I don't think I ever expected this when I first started. So thankful for YOU! #NT2t
A6. I'm thankful for the connections, the community, for the resources, & last summer in particular-- thankful for the book chats that kept me focused on the many things I wanted to accomplish and plan for. #nt2t
It is with a heavy heart the #NT2t community sends our thoughts and prayers to Erin's family. She contributed so much with her energy and passion. You will be missed, friend! #NT2t

I am thankful for Twitter for connecting me with passionate educators and people who are truly interested in improving education. They share, care & matter so much to me. #youmatter#nt2t My Twitter Pages https://t.co/Hyuw8zkz1S
A6: I am most thankful for the doors that Twitter has opened to other educators, both in and out of the JJ system. I truly enjoy seeing everyone's ideas and what they're up to in their classrooms. #Nt2t
#nt2t I have been most thankful for the opportunity to connect with authors in meaningful ways. I appreciate @jodipicoult for the way she engaged her readers and asked questions about the intentions of her work #smallgreatthings
I am thankful for those like Erin @butterfli820 who took the time to pour into me when I first started on Twitter. She encouraged and included me, helping me see that #MyVoiceMatters#nt2t

That's why I love to speak about Twitter at conferences. It's generally well received, which makes me think that people know that Twitter is useful but just don't know how to get started or where to look on their own. #nt2t

A6: The constant support and encouragement from other teachers! As hard as the job is, the majority of teachers always seem to stay positive! Thanks for helping me figure out what I am doing lol! #nt2t
It will! However, you do need to invest some time in building your #PLN Make it manageable for yourself though, build your PLN the way YOU want it to be built. #NT2t
Awesome! It is so important for PreTs to learn about Twitter before they go out there so that they are better equipped and can build a community before even starting in a classroom! #nt2t
Before we all head out, I would like to wish everyone a blessed and happy Thanksgiving. Let those you love know they are cherished, take time for yourself, and enjoy the time with your families! #NT2t
Thanks to everyone for a great chat this morning! So many great ideas and encouragement from all of you. I am truly thankful for this community and my #PLN! #Nt2t
