YEAH! Time for #XPLAP!!! Come join in on this fantastic community tonight as we share ideas of how to sprinkle color, joy and challenge to our classrooms!
What's goin on #XPLAP ! Chris Haller reporting in for the first time from Chili, NY. 7th and 8th Middle School Teacher for the Rochester City School District!
Welcome to #XPLAP Chrisā¦. This is a great community. Tonight @tishrich is hosting so watch out for her questions. Canāt wait to learn with you tonight!
Hi all! Stefanie from Illinois. 8th ELA and team lead. I don't really do ice cream much (more of a savory person) but I like Oreos or crunch coat (like the crunchy sprinkles)...mmm #XPLAP
For sure! Seemed appropriate for the day. I participated in #BowTieTuesday my first few years of teaching, but got out of habit. Now Iām back in the groove! #XPLAP
Hey #xplap! First time joining! New to #gamification, but excited to learn from you all, so I can begin trying it out later this year, hopefully! Oh, and most importantly.... OREOS
A1: I give bakery missions each unit linked to essential Q's where Ss can demo learning in various ways to go above & beyond what we're doing in class. No grade, but XP is awarded! #xplap
OMG, I am actually awake for #xplap - Michele 8th grade ELA teacher in NY and I have to say that I like my soft serve ice cream with out any toppings - hold the whipped cream, hot fudge, and cherry on top
After my Ss have practiced and have the skills to do so, I offer different ways to present their learning especially when it comes to math and side missions #XPLAP
A1: My classroom today was a toppings bar with learning stations for students to move around and pick and choose to show their understanding of O'Henry's short stories #xplap
A1: I try to always offer some sort of alternative a proposed activity, and, if the opportunity arises, encourage my students to follow their own path, as long as its a well defined one. If we've done it before, then I always welcome a student led rift on the original! #xplap
A1: I tend to make projects open-ended. Just a driving Q, some basic requirements and 1 rule: Be Epic. Lets them have a ton of options limited only by their creativity. #XPLAP
A1) I think the items can lead to kids being able to build their own experiences. Different items would let the players twist the game into something they enjoy more. #xplap
A1: I give Ss a choice of delivery many times with assignments and side quests. Also try to give choice by offering broad guidelines that Ss can adapt to content of their choice #XPLAP
A1 I try tongive students options on choice of product tonsgow mastery. Best example is @NationalHistory. 5 categories (website, documentary, exhibit, paper, performance). Its a big project, but I do smaller as well. #xplap
A1: I always advocate for choice of books/articles in the ELA classroom - choice not always guided by a reading level but by passion. Passionate students will outperform the others no matter their starting place. #xplap
A1: Choice is essential. I want to use more of this, allowing students to build the way that they prove their learning. Adding side quests with different tasks can help make this a reality! #XPLAP
A1: In science the visual appeal/presentation is often lost due to the focus on effectiveness/practicality. Allowing time to add a creative appearance engages some Ss that would otherwise be disengaged. #XPLAP
A1: I offer a build a project at least once a yearā¦ Students choose from a menu of optionsā¦ They need to reach a certain amount of points for the project to be doneā¦ Lots of little tasks or a few big ones. #XPLAP
A1: @Flipgrid is offering our students a lot of choice! Use it as an exit ticket response, a station, a warm-up, or just a challenge question. What an amazing resource to tap into! #xplap
Cannot offer choice in ELA via exile level - Ss need to be able to choose a book no matter the level. Ss can read a text no matter the level if they are passionate about the topic #xplap
A1: I tried something new for the end of last semester and gave the Ss the overall question and they designed their own individual project ideas and guidelines. Their requirements were a lot more challenging than I would have done. It was great. #xplap
A1: I often find that when I don't offer more than one way to the goal, I get a group of students who feel trapped. They crave the choice toppings. As a first year teacher its hard to always provide a solid toppings bar, but I'm getting there #xplap
āØA1: ALLOW STUDENTS TO BUILD THEIR OWN EXPERIENCES BY OFFERING CHOICE!āØOffer choice whenever possible (seating, topics, tech tools, assessment, creative options, etc.) #XPLAP
A2: Kids can show their understanding in many ways. We did a lesson on polygons and they could choose how they wanted to present it- some chose songs, raps, making comics, coding #xplap
A1 I think choice and then letting Ss combine ideas to make crazy combinations just like mixing toppings. Can look nasty at first but ends up being delicious! #xplap
A1. Choice is always the answer. Not everyone learns the same way. As a band director when I do my assessments I give the students choices on their songs. Same concepts used in all songs. I even at times let them choose their own i stead of one of mine. #XPLAP
We got side-tracked by other things this week, but they are printed up and ready to go out tomorrow. I told some of the kids about it though and they are psyched. #xplap
A2: As a cart teacher in a jampacked building, so far my options are limited. Fitting into another teacher's space can, on occasion, be treacherous. I try to negotiate a little bit of space in each room to display student work.
Also trying to work music in there... #xplap
It's such a GREAT tool for our language learners prepping for our language exam in Texas, #TELPAS as well as using for fluency practice for early readers and I'm hoping to use for progress monitoring of interventions next year! #xplap
I try to make videos to tie the stoyline into the learning. Also I'm hoping that I can get my room decorated to look like NASA mission control since I have a bit of a space theme. #xplap
A1: I think the best way to have students show their knowledge is to have a self-serve approach. They can make a project, write a paper, do a rap song. Let the student tell you how they want to show their understanding and that understanding will last a life time! #XPLAP
A2: Ss are on a mission each unit to recover a rare antiquity (which becomes an item in the game). 1st day is always a mission briefing from Dr. Jones himself. #XPLAP
A2: I feel I teach in full color all the timeā¦ I have music, activities, some silly jokesā¦ I guess you never know what you are going to get when you enter my class. #XPLAP
A2: flexible setting, splashes of color, Harry Potter themed decorations and house points board to go with my theme, and Ss artwork (both current and former Ss) is hung with pride in my room. #XPLAP
Well, I have to say, it took a while for students to find the hidden link in our #hyperdoc today. Four #StationRotation rounds in fact. I must say, @mrmatera, my Ss will be sleuths from now on. Thanks, @jmattmiller, your #DitchSummit was phenomenal. #XPLAP
A2. At some point in every class and every day I want everyone to laugh. Sometimes its what I do. Sometimes its what the kids do. Plus an awatd winning personality never hurts. #XPLAP
A2: Today every student got a mustache walking into class so they can used O'Henry's mustache to help inspire their understanding of the short story Ransom of Red Chief https://t.co/UE9k40ybKs#xplap
A2: My Classroom has bright fun colors, NASA deco for our game, flexible seating to offer choice and collab space, and a basketball hoop we use often! #XPLAP
A2: During my Eastside High game, I painted 5 wall panels from the theater department to create an actual floor-to-ceiling setting for the game. Then a mission was to graffiti the walls with great quotes from their choice novels. Wall annotations š. #sprinkles#xplap
Yep. For example, one decided to record a podcast and decided on the length requirement and guidelines for quality. Another did a video presentation. A 3rd created a website/blog. They all had to show me they were going to answer the question though. #xplap
A2 My sprinkles - I use technology seamlessly in my instruction, so the students have the options to be comfortable but challenging enough to dream. #XPLAP
A2: while teaching my room was a reflection of me! I had decorated with everything that I was passionate about from Lebron James posters to George Washington is my homeboy posters. My room was the Willie Wonka Chocolate Factory of Education. My students wanted to be there #XPLAP
Very neat! I did something similar! Next time, I will be more specific in how I want them to "propose" their project. I love that your students set the expectations. #xplap
2-5-8 is a differentiated choice board with different projects at varying levels - 2 would be easy, 5 medium, and 8 would be more challenging. Ss have to complete a minimum of 2 projects to earn 10 points or more. Allows for choice, Ss voice #XPLAP
A2. At some point in every class and every day I want everyone to laugh. Sometimes its what I do. Sometimes its what the kids do. Plus an awatd winning personality never hurts. #XPLAP
A2: A student of mine started a sideburn hall of fame last year when we were talking about the Civil War (Ambrose Burnside). She's still adding to it! I love it! Now there are about 40 people up there... I have to update my picture. #xplap
A2: My room is covered in books. On every wall, shelf, cart, you name it. That sums me up pretty well. Any other space is taken up by superheroes. #xplap
A2: Displaying student art; Iām also going to be using Canva templates for the #oneword2018 challenge on Thursday. I bought 2018 glasses on clearance and am going to display pics of the kids in the glasses holding their Canva/One Word. š#XPLAP
A2: I don't have my own classroom but I love our #BringItToMeFriday program where teachers send students to the library where admin and coaches celebrate anything from a good score to extra effort and improvement! #XPLAP
A2: ADD SPRINKLES, ALWAYS! Sprinkles can be anything that sweetens your lessons! I love hooks, room transformations, games, art, and anything that involves collaboration and movement! #XPLAP
A2: I also taught out of the box! Did science experiments as āProfessor Protonā made claymation videos for life cycles. I wanted to make sure that everyday the students had a new flavor of ice cream to try and love. #XPLAP
Hereās a clip of me in action
https://t.co/yZpufJy0sw
That's awesome. I agree with needing to have a great system for proposing their projects. I definitely want to tweak mine too. But it was fun to try something different. #xplap
A2: Stories but done so in a way that shows my human side. The guy with the tie didn't always shine as a kid. Mistakes played a big part in the growth and development process. #XPLAP
A2 https://t.co/VbBzekA0mK allows me to turn images (book covers, Stranger Things 2 image, Calvin and Hobbes panels) into big posters to hang around my room. #XPLAP
A2: I love to have my Ss experience an immersive environment so I have music playing and there will be some sort of narrative that goes along with the theme of my game #xplap
A3: the collaborative spaces created with our flexible seating and @Seesaw brings us together as a community of learners sharing our work with each other and our families #XPLAP
So glad I started participating in #BowTieTuesday months ago. I have fun in with it, and my Ss expect the bow tie while some play along too. The week before break we had a spirit week, and I forgot my bow tie. My Ss noticed and gave me a hard time. š#xplap
A2: #XPLAP A $25 karaoke microphone from @Amazon can turn any classroom or duty into the most fun brain break and student engagement activity you'll ever have!
A1: I love giving my kids choices during projects and activities. At minimum, it's flex seating choice and using whatever to write with (if I can read it š). The other extreme is #geniushour where my kids are diving into their own explorations! #XPLAP
A3: 1:1 iPad school, so Ss are free to use any app to help with any project, though some choose old-school hands-on crafts. Trying to merge parts of ISNs from prev years into next yearās game. #XPLAP
A3: Just "sprinkled" in a participant HyperDoc into my Game-based Learning at #CESA11 today - I think it helped attendees gather their ideas in a creative and organized way! #xplap
A3: I use chromebooks on and off with my middle schoolers in order to shake things up a bit and pull them away from the dreariness of worksheets and textbooks.
I'm constantly working on finding new videos and games to play with students. #xplap
A2: A student of mine started a sideburn hall of fame last year when we were talking about the Civil War (Ambrose Burnside). She's still adding to it! I love it! Now there are about 40 people up there... I have to update my picture. #xplap
A3: FLIPGRID has added a richness to my classroom by allowing students to practice forming their thoughts, speaking, and having their voice heard. I love adding it after journaling or a writing activity. #XPLAP#FlipgridFever
I like this! I need to structure my CYOA assessments like this! Do you have an example of how you would present? How long do you provide for students to work on this? #xplap
2-5-8 is a differentiated choice board with different projects at varying levels - 2 would be easy, 5 medium, and 8 would be more challenging. Ss have to complete a minimum of 2 projects to earn 10 points or more. Allows for choice, Ss voice #XPLAP
A non-tech addition to my game is my items... Students love collecting, trading, and using them. All they are are printed paper slips... But they love them! #XPLAP
A3: Youtube, YouTube and more Youtube! I put every things my students did on Youtube so as they got older they could always go back and see some great memories! I have students in High School now that email me and tell me how they still watch their videos! #XPLAP
It's about application so I am currently convincing my Ss that their GeniusHour/Passion projects need to "Come Alive" https://t.co/jhgq5CRJbc - My one students are going full throttle and doing a "Linus Blanket" project love their passion coming alive #xplap
A3: #sketchnotes, #booksnaps, @flipgrid topics, LEGO builds, dice games, Play-Doh challenges, items to be earned, leaderboards; the opportunities to enrich the classroom environment are all around us even in the littlest things #XPLAP
A3 (pt2) I use Google Sheets for everything. I have a Gamified gradebook in Sheets which is linked to personalized student dashboards. I am making a XP most improved Guild leaderboard in Sheets. My Dreadsheets boss battle is in there too #xplap
A3: I know this might be outside the box but starting to blog about my activities/ideas has really helped bring an authentic intention to reflect on my teaching/coaching/leading that I didn't expect. It's a really deep process to put into words what just comes naturally. #XPLAP
A3: Honestly, engaging my kids in real discussions adds so much richness to our classroom! They've grown so much this year in their ability to express their ideas, along with giving constructive feedback to one another- proud teacher right here. #XPLAP
A3. The nature of my class is hard to tech (middle school band). But when I am able its @noteflight and @soundtrap. The Google Suite has also made life easier. #XPLAP
A3: Lot's of tech going on in my room. Current favorites Google Drawing (getting to be masters), Canva, Pixlr, LearningApps, with Wix as always to publish. Example: https://t.co/83XSBLgemY#XPLAP
Just got up to get my comfy pjs on, and look what i found came today!! Ready to extend learning further with these two books! The last two in my big Christmas haul! #xplap#learnlap@alicekeeler
A3 Also my students in my Video Club, are going past my expectations creating their own YouTube Channels - taking the technology and applying it to their lives #xplaphttps://t.co/M4axovccHi
A3: I try to simulate "real world" experiences whenever I can - Writing menu descriptions in ELA, creating an advert strategy using population maps in SS, etc. #xplap
A3: I just started using @Flipgrid w/my Ss. There is something special about having the Ss record their thoughts & experiences, vs writing them. They not only enjoy it, but I do as well! #Xplap
Here is one I did a while back for an outside reading project https://t.co/Vztfx2pQGw
I will rethink this and redo for class assignment now that I am reviewing it. Depending on the projects I give Ss about 4 weeks for side quests #xplap
Same! Any excuse for a dress-up day, transformation, or change of schedule (like rotating class/teachers) is my jam! Turns out brain research tells us it's the exact thing kids need to create memorable moments to activate scheme and build background knowledge š¤ #XPLAP
A4: I've had some success coming up with thinking prompts at the end of lessons, although truthfully I could stand to come up with some more
Nothing says new experience like urban middle schoolers passionately arguing over whether DNA can be extracted from rocks and trees! #xplap
I use to take a whole 9 wks and have Ss become publishers of various business documents. I have many Ss come back and tell me that it was the best lesson they ever learned. Helped them in their business jobs. #XPLAP
A4: My Ss assignments are called quests and each quest has a certain amount of XP and whthin there might be Easter Eggs and Powerups if they try something new #xplap
A4: Love using these ABC dice in my class to just sprinkle a new take on an old assignmentā¦ Check out the video hereā¦ https://t.co/FSG4DIqomU#XPLAP
A4: By reversing field : I've said to students, "let's flip the script, imagine if you were completely wrong. Explain it to us another way.....from the beginning." #XPLAP
A4: anyone can give a worksheet or a simple reading assignment but when you develop activities and experiences that really draw students in; then students are no longer just ālearningā they are ātransformingā and by the way; so are you!!! #XPLAP
I can totally share it! Right now it's full of random stuff for this specific presentation, but I could make it a bit more generic so it would be a better template to share. Sound good? #xplap
A4 #XPLAP It is taking the toppings and the real learning is when the students can collaborate with one another. It doesn't become solidified in their learning until they can share it with others... @Flipgrid, Combined Google Slides, @SMART_Tech SMARTAmp, so many possibilities.
A4: It's a little random, but I have a catchphrase I add at the end of every video I do. If I don't include it, the kids go crazy. It's fun. Now I sometimes leave parts of it out just to bug them. #xplap
A4: One thing I've helped students AND teachers incorporate into literacy is tweeting the authors. To see their response brings a really brings literacy full circle. So many amazing authors on Twitter! It just takes a small video, picture, and a tag! #XPLAP
A4: 1st vocab assignment this semester was changed into team challenge. Have to give a presentation on word & definitions, but have to use visual, sound, & movement elements. They present on Friday! #XPLAP
A3 I like to incorporate student reflection and student recorded video that goes over material or problems. Letās them relearn from themselves at a later date. #xplap
Thanks so muchā¦ if you want to learn more check out https://t.co/9r1XK8i0qt there will will find links to other communities like my youtube channel and podcasts.
If I can find a way to make an assignment into some sort of a mystery or scavenger hunt by simply having a certain order for problems that students need to figure out, then I do it! #xplap
A3: I know this might be outside the box but starting to blog about my activities/ideas has really helped bring an authentic intention to reflect on my teaching/coaching/leading that I didn't expect. It's a really deep process to put into words what just comes naturally. #XPLAP
A4: I like to spice things up with my attitude. If my class isn't into a particular subject or activity, I know it's up to me to get the PUMPED to learn (even if it's not my favorite). Ss feed on energy, so be excited! #XPLAP
My Ss are in 8th grade and we do them as a team to discuss books each month, some break out into small groups and host their own and then send me a link to the transcript or hashtag for me to read through later #XPLAP
āØA4: I try to think of things my students wouldn't do on their own, but would enjoy doing and incorporate those things into my lessons. Today we learned and practiced card tricks (for upcoming writing/speaking project)!āØ #XPLAP
Im throwing in some problem based learning activities in one of my classes right now. They are given a story and a question that goes with the story and have to come up with reasoning for the explanation. #xplap
A4: I love to have epic dice battles whenever I can. Kids rarely win something outright. They usually have to have a dice battle at the end or have the option to increase their prize through a dice roll. #xplap
Alright guys, I've gotta roll out. The worst part about this being a West Coast based chat is that I'm an East Coaster with a pretty strict 10:30 bedtime. It's been a pleasure chatting with you all, I look forward to checking back in next week. #xplap
A4: Anything with a global connection #GRA17#GKP18#AwesomeSquiggles Anything where kids can connect to other students. It just opens up our classroom #xplap
I just saw this at #stciu13 this year! Looked very interesting, by tying those familiar tools into one. I have yet to use it... @IU13IMS@SpiralEducation#xplap
In reply to
@Stella_Pollard, @SpiralEducation, @IU13IMS, @SpiralEducation
A5: They would say: Saltyā¦ Because it is full flavored and intenseā¦ In fact, when students call my class intense, I tell them that is a high complement in my book. Welcome to intensityā¦ #XPLAP
A4. Google Earth and Tourbuilder really bring the outside world into the four worlds of our classroom. Try to have students explore new places often that they may never get the chance to explore otherwise! #xplap
A4 I like to include random jokes and scenarios into my activities. One of my favorites during review is to give them one minute to draw something ridiculous like the student and I battling Santa. The pictures are horrible and we all get a good laugh. #xplap
A5 im going outside the box here (yeah that's right...) Unshelled peanut - seems hard... Takes some work... So worth it when they get to delicious nut... An I through stuff on the floor #xplap
Yes! One example of meeting @kaaauthor at a book signing and took it back to my students. You would have thought the most famous person in the entire world was in our room. 24 seconds and my kids wanted to read for hours! #xplap
I am glad to hear that you will begin using itā¦ #Gamification, done with #XPLAP intentionality is a powerful shift for both students and teachers! #XPLAP
A5: Maybe a combination of sweet & spicy- like when you combine chili pepper on pineapple. Definitely fun & enjoyable, with a bit of unexpected. We are close like a family, but I try to keep my kids on their toes. #xplap
Have to say goodnight #xplap
You rock and always inspire me through the remainder of the week. Going for fruity and sweet this week. Next week I will add more crunchy
A5: none of the above it would be nutty! Many of my fellow teachers don't like the crazy classroom. But a crazy classroom is fun & means kids are engaged #XPLAP
For real! For example, just tweeted @alicekeeler about her book I recieved in mail and she retweeted in minutes! The power of connecting with other educators! #xplap
A6: In our Amazing Race Game coming up I use detours. They have two choices. Ex. Sight or Smell. Don't know details until they've chosen. Adds a little mystery & chance. #xplap
A6: Limiting options can help Ss be intentional about their choices. It can also assist our struggling Ls by not overwhelming them with too many options. #XPLAP
A5 #xplap I think savory -- A rich flavor that can sometimes take an adjustment, but then you come to realize it's worthy deliciousness or maybe I'm just odd . . .
A6 Depending on the projects, I limit choices to no more than 3. I try to change those choices up for each project that way Ss get to run the gambit. #XPLAP
A4: I believe that giving choices is ideal for engagement but that after a certain number of choice opportunities, adding in stipulations or constraints that ask students to be innovative INSIDE the box is one of the greatest challenges we can offer #XPLAP
A5 SWEET! I don't think my current students realize how lucky they've got it, until they come back next year wishing they were still in my classroom - LEARNING! #xplap
A6: Limited choice allows Ss to try new things, while still giving them a safety net. Our classrooms should be a safe place for them to make mistakes and grow- limited choice allows for more creativity, but still provides framework. #xplap
LOL there's no better thrill - I love that author replies/tweets get the same reaction from us ALL, kids and adults! #XPLAP and sometimes you even get to Twitter chat with them ššš
a6) I have some construction challenges where they have a certain amount of money to spend on items. Forces students to plan their work first so they don't run out of money. #xplap
A6 #xplap -- when I taught freshman Eng I would let them choose an equivalent alternative to a formal paper --- I got some really amazing Odyssey productions involving puppets, legos and even one kid who wrote an original score and performed an interpretive dance #NoJoke
A6: limited choice needs to be used strategically especially if you are teaching a specific skill. It is also very useful when you have students who are struggling to come up with ideas on their own. #XPLAP
A6: Since I want Ss to practice different skills, I sometimes limit the choices of product (i.e. if you have already done a text response, you have to create a video for this assignment) Gets Ss out of their comfort zone. #XPLAP
A6 ever heard of the diner menu problem? An inverse relationship between the number of items on the menu and the quality of the food. There was a hotdog place called the Windmill in NJ. Literally made hotdogs and fries. AMAZING #xplap
Hey #xplap friends! Iād be so incredibly grateful if youād vote for my #ISTE18 sessions! Click link below!

https://t.co/DuWHgZyHt1#tlap
A6: I used to do a writing assignment that they first wrote a page response, then had to answer the same question in a paragraphā¦ Then again in one sentenceā¦ Brevity is quite a challengeā¦ #XPLAP
A6 #xplap now that I teach tech, I start with the end -- create a presentation -- and then give them options on how to do that and I really love when a kid tries to sneak in something not on my list thinking they are being sneaky when I recognize THEY ARE THINKING #boom
That's why I love using the dice to limit students' responses. They come up with some brilliant things when they're forced to choose words carefully. #xplap
A6 In my building/engineering challenges, they have a limited budget to cover materials and insurance. Tape insurance for example, always bought ahead of time, replaces up to half of your tape if you need to Untape things. #XPLAP
A6: This was sorta my lens for how I answered Q4, so instead Iāll just leave this link to an awesome video on this subject right here. #embracetheshake#xplaphttps://t.co/1CpP2NjgYO
My GT learners hate it when I limit their word choices. We do infopix- vocab image with 7 word or less definition. The kids become very intentional with the words they choose. (Sometimes I even make it 5 words or less) #XPLAP
A6 I am a sucker for the āspecialsā. Non menu items that seem rare. Giving Ss an opportunity to pick something to do that is off of the norm creates excitement and may engage them to try something new. #xplap
I had an art professor who said the same thing. She gave the class an assignment saying do whatever you want as long as you use ___. When giving full class feedback she reflected that she should have limited us more to better focus us. #xplap
āØA6: CHOICE BUILDS ENGAGEMENT. When students have choice they are instantly engaged and the content is relevant. We are all unique, allow students to build their own learning experiences!āØ#XPLAP
Its a football analysts theory. Mike Lombardi I think? When an offense tries to do a lot of different things, means they don't do much well. My restaurant experience bears this out... #xplap
Hahahaha. Love that those are still up there! PS @tishrich - @sesrock1979 here is one of our leaders in gamification at the HS and sheāll be in our session Monday. Thanks for being willing to share your expertise w out educators #xplap

@sesrock1979, @tishrich, @tishrich, @sesrock1979
A7 #xplap I was really reflecting on how important it is to treat every day as though it were as powerful and exciting as the first day of kinder -- I want Ss to believe their education is powerfully important and worthy of seriousness
A7: If my mouth is watering, I'm anticipating something awesome. I want my students to feel that way about our class! Build relationships, have cliff hangers, change it up (I'm adding a section of tundra tomorrow š ), push the envelope for them to be excited! #XPLAP
A7 Mouthwatering moments are always experiences whether students are absorbed by a project, playing a game, sharing an awesome book, or just being silly together. #xplap
Hey #xplap, I'm going to head out tonight. So impressed by this group, and I hope to join again next week. 10pm is hard to do in PA! You're all great! Hope to keep learning from you!
A7: Hype up events in class! Build anticipation for the exciting moments/lessons. One of my phrases I use a lot is: āTune in tomorrow, same bat time, same bat channel.ā #XPLAP
I love when they figure out they CAN do this -- not just that they are allowed to make that choice but that they have the ability to carve their own path through the mountain #XPLAP
A7: mouthwatering moments in the classroom come from preparation by the chef in the kitchen! We have to plan plan plan so they can connect and grow #XPLAP
a7) I like to include a lot of mystery in the class. My 7th graders keep asking why I wear a space suit to school sometimes. I tell them "I don't know what they're talking about, why would I wear a space suit to school?" they have to wonder until they experience it #xplap
A7: Ts being truly excited and passionate about their classrooms helps build S anticipation, items that have abilities that will give an advantage in a challenge, teasing things to come #XPLAP
A7: Always be looking for new ideas and connect with this amazing #xplap community! No end to the amazing things we can do to make mouthwatering moments in our classrooms!
āØ#A7 MORE SPRINKLES, PLEASE! Adding hooks, building mystery, and allowing student choice create anticipation and build suspense (mouthwatering lessons). #XPLAP
Time to say goodnight to the best #Xplap crew around. Great chat @tishrich and @mrmatera . Loved the questions tonight. Lots of thought provoking responses.
A7: Love it when a series of challenges/side-quests provide enough clues for a group to, over time, be able to complete a task that brings in each of the other challenges. That āfinal boss battleā or breakoutbox is a BIG moment! #XPLAP
A7 in science I think a lot of these moments come from blowing the kids minds with things they have not seen before. Being awestruck has a powerful influence on the brain. https://t.co/5hB9IgXkwY#xplap
A7 Mouth watering moments are when I am pushed off the stage and the Ss take over to teach something they want to share with their peers. #LearnLAP#XPLAP
A6: Haven't done it yet, but I want to create an end of semester, week-long review "playoff." Sort of like March Madness where even the underdog has a fighting chance to win it all. Still ironing out the details. #XPLAP
