Hi everyone! Stacey Macoff 8th grade physical science teacher and @mitastouch this is a great weekly chat I like to join great ideas and a great professional community to join! #champforkids
A1: It begins with our teachers. We have passionate educators who enjoy what they do. They will do what is best for Ss and the Ss know this. #champforkids.
A1: We started a weekly genius hour this year! It’s so much fun to see the kids excited about their projects! (Shhh...don’t tell them they’re learning😂.) #ChampForKids#BeWillbern
A1: Ts at @JWMSGoCougars are constantly working to bring innovation into the classroom. Our hope is that as we make the learning more relatable and engaging to Ss! Have seen a big difference since going 1:1 this year! #champforkids@ERobbPrincipal@KTuttleEDU
A1-I think first try to get the staff excited about new learning is key. Even if it is something they have heard or seen we try to make it new or awesome. #champforkids
A1: I have really been pushing Ss voice in decisions and having Ss take ownership for their learning. I have been working with my Ts on helping Ss be goal oriented and engaging Ss in out of the box activities. #champforkids
A1: Through valuing student voice; personalized learning and UDL; collaborative opportunities with peers and real-life experiences in our STEAM labs/maker spaces/coding with bots #champforkids#ThisIsWe
A1 I try to build everything based upon learning new things that are cool, neat or helpful to their lives. I use a variety of tasks, and try to limit lecture and worksheets. #champforkids
Welcome! We like to think of it as one if the best kept secrets on Twitter! This family is astounding! Glad to welcome you into the fold! #champforkids 🥊🥊❤️🥊🥊
A1~
~ we have fun while learning ~ bigs & littles
~ our classroom is built on a continuous flow of ❤️, support & limitless opportunities to grow, make mistakes, get back up & try again ~ all the while praising, supporting & encouraging each other 👍
#champforkids
A1: Sounds simple, but listening to kids. Allowing their feedback, thoughts, leadership shape the learning environment and experience. Ideating alongside them. Kids want to and can make a difference in their schools and communities, TODAY. And that is so motivating. #ChampForKids
A1-I saw an awesome lesson on the Tell Tale Heart where the teacher set the mood perfectly and all the kids were so pumped to talk about it and share. It was her passion and planning! #champforkids
I’ll just throw in this. Getting kids excited is about teachers and staff sharing that excitement. Our ability to model will always shape learning. #ChampForKids
Ack! I’m late! School Counselor from VB trying to catch up! ...A1. the teachers at my school are still inspired by their content, it’s contagious! #ChampForKids
A2: I work like crazy to build a relationship with them. Positive relationships have been key for me reaching those students. One student in particular, I saw a HUGE turnaround when we finally connected last year. It was amazing to see and be a part of! #champforkids
A2: I make connections with them. Get to know something they enjoy or something about them to show I care. I listen to them and how they want to learn. #champsforkids
A2 Talk to them! make a effort to get to know their interests outside your classroom and find a way to help use it to motivate them inside the classroom! #champforkids
A2: The best ways that I have found, besides building relationships, is providing student choice as much as possible and giving them a voice!#Champforkids
A2 Continue to build those strong positive relationships. Let them know we are excited they are with us and celebrate the positive. Remembering each day is a new beginning, a clean slate if you will. #champforkids
A2. Giving them a chance to settle in is so important. It allows them to trust that you’re still going to care, even if they slip up. Every day is a new chance for everyone. #ChampForKids
A focus this year is to invest in my people. We have used 15 minute staff meetings by content area and grade level. We will be creating a faculty room staff library(thanks @teacher2teacher for the tweet/recommendations!). Our next PD will be #edcamp style. #Champforkids
A2~
~keep showing/modeling/speaking about your unconditional ❤️ & belief in them~never waiver from this
~ find what interests them & make time to engage in conv, activities that highlight strengths
~ offer endless 2ndchances to engage, reengage after set backs

Relationships are the driver behind getting everyone excited to learn. This goes for students, all the way up to admin. People want to feel valued and respected. #champforkids

A2: Consistently work to build positive relationships. Check in with them in class, on the playground, in the hall. Greet them at the door. Ask them how they are doing? Without a solid foundation, you are less likely to find successful outcomes. #Champforkids
A2: We can’t enjoy a class or teacher who doesn’t embrace us for who we truly are. Do we show genuine interest in each kid, value their strengths, demonstrate that we care about and need their voice? Many learners feel disempowered and their behavior is information. #ChampForKids
A3. In counseling we say we can be a “mirror” for the client. Staying positive and smiling even in the face of someone upset can often settle the situation and turn the corner from confrontational to collaborative. #ChampForKids
A3: I’m always smiling and using jokes and laughter to engage Ss. Whenever there’s conflict, I always am 💯 with them. Making those connections and building off of the foundations I have with the Ss. #champforkids
A3: Our positive words are contagious; @shawnachor encourages us to be praise prisms. 31% of organizations claim to be positive but don’t express it; tap into the hidden 31 #champforkids
To empower and have success with something most are not familiar with, I have spoken to a few teachers to see if they will facilitate a session topic I think they are strong in. They will take the first sessions and then I am opening to teacher choice. #ChampForKids

~positivity is contagious ~ allows all of us to smile, laugh, be present & truly live in the moment ...
~we all have worries and focusing on the positive allows a reprieve from such 😊

A3: People want to be around positive people. My own kids always talk about their positive teachers! It is contagious. Be the one that everyone wants to be around! kids will want to learn from you to! #champforkids
A3 If I am going to promote growth mindset, I have to live it myself. I never let Ss give up, and and always their biggest cheerleader when needed. #champforkids
A3- I greet every student with a warm smile and hello even if they aren't in my class! They often ask me why I am ALWAYS happy and my reply is "I'm not" and I explain being positive builds positive #champforkids
A3. Not sure if it promotes or annoys! I’m a BIG KID! Always have fun with my kids! Stay on the positive & promote positivity & let it go, let it go the naysayers/energy vampires 🙄#champforkids
I am just as thrilled to learn something new as my students. I love seeing things through my colleagues eyes. I think we just have to be thankful and authentic. Fake isn't cool! #champforkids
#champforkids The best way we can inspire students who may be difficult to reach- kindness, consistency and lots of eye contact. The more you listen and interact with them- the more they will open up and trust you. Never give up - even a little bit
A3: What we look for, we see. So, when we look for the good, there is so much good to see and to celebrate. Seeing the good makes me grateful, and as Brene Brown says, “There is no joy without gratitude.” So, expressing gratitude leads to joy.
And joy is awesome. #ChampForKids

#ChampForKids I think that even in the most frustrating of times in a classroom- a smile, a mindful interaction, acknowledgement means so much- positivity is contagious- consistent positivity becomes a routine and children notice
ABonus? not sure If that is the right format. But... its the kids! To hear about their game/concert/ trials tribulations. To hear the amazing things they are doing motivates me everyday to be the best T I can #champforkids

Bonus: my Ss and the opportunity to make a difference in their lives every single day. #champforkids
#champforkids The most important aspect of my classroom is respect. Our motto- keep moving forward and above all listen to one another and look them in the eye-make a safe haven and learning takes a front seat
