....and fav game show was $1,000,000 Pyramid. I think that's what it was called? Loved game shows back in the day! Best reason for staying home sick! #xplap
Justin from KS, MS science teacher, missed out on the live chat for well played, had two other chats tonight #AIMSNetwork & #teachermyth last one for the evening #xplap

Hey, #XPLAP Crew! I'm Kimberly from NE, and I teach 7th grade ELA. I loved watching The Price is Right growing up! Maybe that's why I love using https://t.co/3hbDHVzLcz in my classroom?!
A1: In my Kahoot and Quizizz quizzes I've inserted cryptic messages/questions that deal with my game as clues for the students to figure out. I've had varying success with it. #XPLAP
Hey, Adam! So fun! Love how @mrmatera at some point mentioned not assigning point values in games like Jeopardy in the classroom until the end to keep the suspense! Love that idea! #XPLAP
A1 making digital games kinesthetic in some way to slow down answers for responses, IE go to this corner if you choose this and rush back to submit answer #xplap
A1 I'm not sure about this one. Maybe keeping a leaderboard? The problem is that the same kids tend to win all the time though. Maybe some chance element? #XPLAP
A1: I think the best way to mess with any game is add ITEMS to your game that break the rules.
I.E. Kahoot Arrest! This makes other kids have to put their divices down on the table and hands over their head. All but the kid with the item.
#XPLAP
A1: I like adding side challenges that take students away from their devices. Cards that allow a 5 second delay, touch a wall before clicking your answer, etc. #xplap
A1: Letting the kids make their own Kahoot or Quizizz is a lot of fun. If they can do that, they really understand the content. They love seeing other kids playing their game! #xplap
A1: I let different teams answer a question but the other teams can steal if they are not right. Then students roll to see how much they multiply the base points by #XPLAP
A1 Haven't tried it yet, but I like the idea of throwing in random "road blocks." Something the student would need to complete before continuing. Or maybe have two students switch devices mid-game. #XPLAP
A1: Also, one of my all time favorite things to do is to add answers that are completely up to chance. One of my questions says, click a box and 3 of the answers are correct and one is wrong. The luck factor makes it fun. #xplap
A1- I combine Kahoot with @classcraftgame and I give my students characters XP to all levels based on where they end...that way I have people staying involved the game longer. #xplap
Some days we play quizlet a couple times and then we don't let the students find their groups but have to stay in their desks without talking. Also adding a penalty box has been fantastic!#XPLAP

🤫🤐🤫🤐
SHHHHHHH!
🤫🤐🤫🤐
Love having students keep it quiet during a pre-built game like GimKit, Kahoot, or Quizlet Live. It hads a whole other challenge to the game! #XPLAP
I had a group last year that was rude when they played a card like that. Every group had to stand up before they could answer a question, so I told them where to stand...right in front of the screen so the rude team couldn't see. (Don't anger the game maker). #xplap
My students love Kahoot, but the speed element definitely favors certain students. Right now my district isn't allowing Gimkit, but I like the fact that it is self-paced. #xplap
A2: I’m a huge fan of grudgeball review... while it’s not super interactive, the ability to steal questions & take points from opposing teams definitely helps it earn its name. #XPLAP
A2 I recently used Chutes and Ladders for some Integer review. Students were in teams and had to solve problems quickly, but also had to take turns. As they answered questions correctly, they got to roll a yard dice to see how they moved on the board. #XPLAP
Describing a musical instrument technique as a question in Quizziz for my students and then having the students try to demonstrate the technique on their instruments. Always good for a challenge! #xplap
A2: We played a paper version of Headbanz at a district meeting to review computer science vocabulary. The words/terms were on paper & we had to see how many we could guess in 3 minutes. So fun& good for vocabulary! #XPLAP
That is a good one. I use that one too. Those that don't know about it can find it in Explore Like a Pirate book along with like 25 other great review games. #XPLAP
A2 I like Sink or Swim. 2 teams stand in a line facing each other. They take turns indy answering question. S gets Q right they can sink a player or raise one of their own. 1st team sunk loses. #XPLAP
Mystery Box is a huge hit in my class. I really like the digital version that allows you to create your own games with some hidden graphics. Check it out on https://t.co/YCH10eLlXN#XPLAP
I use it in my DreadSheets. I also have a "Steal another Power" Power. Since each player only has 1 to start it adds some strategy as to when to use the powers. #XPLAP
A2 MARIO PARTY! Wait, that's digital, and nothing like a review game. But it sure is fun! I'd like to make a Mario Party like analog game for library skills review. I usually use a trap filled board to review skills. #XPLAP
A2 So Family Feud is a HUUUUUGE game that my Ss love, it is also fun because I interview other Ss (6th graders, 8th graders) and teachers for real responses #xplap
A2: OH! What if each team had a Mr. Potato Head. Every time they got an answer right they got to add something. First completed Mr. Potato Head wins! (or you could do a reverse one) #XPLAP
A2.2 I also use a buzzer system for review to be like a quiz bowl set up, if a team member says a wrong response they rotate out and it makes it a tourney of sorts #xplap
A2- I have had some success with a bracket type set up where students answer and the fastest would advance but some groups have a hard time when you get to the final four of the bracket #xplap
A2: OH...cheaper idea. Get a couple of boxes of Cooties (remember that game?). Each team has a cootie bug & correct answers get a leg or eye, etc... 1st team with completed cootie bug wins! #XPLAP
A2 We do password type game where partners need to explain a word to their partner team, using class vocabulary. Also have done this with acting out words. #xplap
Name that Tune in Four Notes or Less. Students or teacher choose tune; one student performs it, others have to guess title. Works really well for beginning instrument students. #xplap
A2: OH! What if each team had a Mr. Potato Head. Every time they got an answer right they got to add something. First completed Mr. Potato Head wins! (or you could do a reverse one) #XPLAP
A3: I heard about this one special called “Blinding Light,” which requires students to close their eyes & listen to the question... oh right, that was @MrPowley! #XPLAP
I'm not an Item Master - yet - I'm testing it out soon this year. So far I have stat booster items, and items that help student get special access to the library's resources #XPLAP
✨A2c✨
During my first gamification experience (unit long) last year, we played a ton of low tech games with high player interaction... any sport or yard game you can thing of... we played it (with a twist) as a review game! #XPLAP
A2: I just got two Breakout boxes. Excited to use. But another game that I have done in past is to Ss make their own bingo cards from a list of vocabulary/concepts. No two cards are alike and they have no idea what the questions will be. Fun to do once in awhile! #XPLAP
A3 so during jeopardy review I offer double or nothing questions an item could be a life saver of sorts and if they get the double question wrong they could keep their original score earned #xplap
A3 I like the idea of giving students extra chances during a skill game. Working on creating an item that allows a retry. Call it "Second Chance"? Or "Rewind"? #XPLAP
A3: What if every time a team gets an answer right, they get a letter that fits in a mystery phrase (like Wheel of Fortune). At the end, teams could use the letters they earned to figure out the puzzle. First team to figure it out gets a big amount of XP? #XPLAP
A3 “Future Goggles” where they get to see a set of questions in advance or an item to force a team to give some kind of opposite to the question—like if the question is about Neolithic Revolution they have to instead give an answer for Paleolithic—to get credit #XPLAP
A3- I will confess that since my game is new I have not added items to spice up my review games. I will be definitely checking out the answers from other amazing #xplap people #newbie
A3: There is a board game called "CURSES" that I am planning to use to allow one team to curse another. It has cards with things like "You must talk like a pirate," "Everytime you speak you must start by clapping twice and saying Attention Class", etc. #xplap
✨A3✨
Have a Google Doc open for suggestions in my Google Classroom... students love anything Fortnite inspired... a "Chug Juice" power up was recommended recently! #XPLAP
