Chris from Bloomington, IN. Teach world history for private online HS affiliated w/ Indiana Univ. Big advantage of Twitter is making connections to increase learning! #nt2t
Hi everyone, my name is Amanda Brennan and I am a student at NC State in the College of Ed so a future teacher! I'm still new to twitter chats but super excited to try one out! #nt2t
My name is Elizabeth Manuel, I am from Pittsburgh PA and attending Grove City College, and an advantage to using twitter in a word would be "connections" #nt2t
My name is Rachael Stille. I'm from a small town north of Williamsport called Nauvoo. I'm a pre-service teacher from Grove City College. One word to describe twitter would be communication. #Nt2t#gccedu
Hello! My name is Hannah Mercer. I am from Massachusetts, but I am attending Grove City College! I am a pre-service teacher studying elementary and special education. A one-word advantage of twitter is collaboration. #gccedu#nt2t
I’m Jeremy in Connecticut, a parent and #nt2t team member returning from the Land of the Dead. A virus yesterday kept me immobile and staring off into space instead of on Twitter. Better today! Because my No. 1 Twitter benefit is connecting with people like you. #nt2t
A1: I would rather include a picture, it gives more personality to your profile. The picture someone chooses tells you a lot about who they are #gccedu#nt2t
A1: I think a profile photo is a better way to go when using this account for your classroom or professional career. It is always nice to be able to put a name to a face and it makes you seem more connected and interested in posting when your profile looks polished. #nt2t
A1 A photo helps prove you exist. An egg -- or now the gray profile -- is more like the Witness Protection Program. Who are you really, and why would I want to engage with you? #NT2t
Especially when you have the opportunity to meet in person someone you first got to know through Twitter. And it helps to use the same photo across platforms so you’re easily recognizable. #nt2t

I would rather watch the chat unfold. I think it's a lot easier to follow what's going on as opposed to piecing it together after it's happened. #nt2t#gccedu
A2: I would rather watch the chat unfold. I think it's a lot easier to follow what's going on as opposed to piecing it together after it's happened. #nt2t#gccedu
A2: Chats have always seemed so overwhelming to me. I have read a lot of transcripts. I am excited to jump in today and be a part of the conversation. #FirstTimer#nt2t
A2: I would rather be involved in that chat as it is happening so I am able to get the most out of it. Reading through it after is still beneficial, but I would prefer to be a part of it as it is live. #gccedu#nt2t
LOL I send Bitmojis to my husband all the time via email and text. He loves it b/c they crack him up. He agrees that my Bitmoji looks very much like me. #nt2t
A2 Lurking in a chat now is better that plowing through the transcript later. Not only is that a chore, but real-time you might see something that makes want to chime in, which you can't do with the same effect later when no one's looking and engaging. #NT2t
Are you on a phone or computer? If you're on a computer, I highly recommend using Tweetdeck as you can have a separate column just for the chat you're following. It's AMAZING! #nt2t

A2) Confession: I NEVER get around to reading transcripts. Sometimes if I miss a chat I’ll scroll through it afterward on Twitter; that way I can still respond. #nt2t
A3) I get good ideas from both groups but I get more from fellow social studies teachers in #sschat, #sstlap, #whapchat, #engsschat, etc. They are my big names. #nt2t
A3: I believe that both are important, but connecting with like minded teachers is what I believe can create the most connections as a preservice teacher #nt2t#gccedu
A3: I try to do both because I think they both provide valuable insight. But if I had to choose I'd probably go with the big names in ed. Like-minded sounds like they think like me and if I had to choose I'd rather be challenged than affirmed #nt2t#gccedu
A3: I would rather connect with like-minded teachers because then we can share similar ideas with one another. It's also very important to get new ideas too! #nt2t#gccedu
A3 I recommend following a mix of people to get all points of view and ideas to use with the students, staff and parents. My Resources page has some of my favorites https://t.co/GX9w9Phd1j#nt2t#gccedu#edchat#edtechchat
A3: I would have to choose both. I can learn a lot from the big names in education, but I also can learn from like-minded teachers. Both are very useful to follow and can be valuable resources that can help me to become a teacher of impact! #gccedu#nt2t
A3: A mix of both would be the best option, or at least it has been for me. I think the two types of accounts have their own advantages and can go hand in hand! #nt2t
A3: I would rather take aspects of both into my classroom. I think it is easy to get suck teaching with only a couple of influences but it is important to constantly pull from a variety of sources to reach ALL students #nt2t

A3 No reason to discriminate between big-name educators and like-minded teachers. Follow and engage with them all. Twitter is a big enough town for everyone, and you benefit from exposure to many views from many sources. #NT2t

A3: Being in a small rural school, it's important to me to connect with like-minded teachers virtually. And teachers teaching the same courses as me too. Although I follow a few big names too. #nt2t

A3. Inspiration don’t depend on names. Important is the right attitude to share and motivate and curate content so that other like-minded people find useful things to learn and grow. #nt2t
Good evening #NT2t from Mumbai, India
A1: a profile pic not only completes.your profile but adds more creditability to your profile. It helps relate to ppl one interacts with online.
This is so true! I joined Twitter when I was teaching for a different online HS and feeling isolated. I've taught in a very rural school as well & Twitter would have been so helpful then (that was 1998-99). #nt2t
A3: Being in a small rural school, it's important to me to connect with like-minded teachers virtually. And teachers teaching the same courses as me too. Although I follow a few big names too. #nt2t
A4: I would rather retweet because whomever sees the tweet is able to go back to the source if they are interested in the context. I was always taught it is good to cite your sources! #nt2t

A4: I would rather retweet! It is so easy to do as I am scrolling through twitter, and I enjoy seeing the accounts that others retweet from so I can look for who else I could potentially follow! #nt2t#gccedu
A4) Depends on what I'm doing. I do try to quote more now, especially since Tweetdeck made it easier. :) Helps provide context for what you are RTing. #nt2t

A4 Retweet or quote tweet? That's a mixed bag. If you retweet, it's better to say why you're retweeting rather than just hit the retweet button. A quote tweet lets you say more and keeps the original tweet in context. A reply counts more on Twitter for engagement. Whew! #NT2t
#NT2t A4: some with enough explanation maybe just retweet. But for most I'd like to QT to give a reason /or my take and why I like that article/tweet/post and thought it to be interesting enough to RT.
A4: I would rather quote the teeet vs. reteeet in order to give my thinking on why I’m teteeeting in the first place. Unless I just want other people to read. Depends on purpose #NT2t
Both are important, but I feel like it depends on the age group. High school kids could benefit from a classroom twitter while parents of elementary kids should have more contact with the teacher. #nt2t#gccedu
A5: I don’t use twitter in the classroom for ss or parents. I use this platform to connect with my PLN about best practices and to learn from other Ts and educational professionals #NT2t
A5: Would rather use it with kids in the classroom. I could keep them updated on class happenings and there's a ton of other ways to use it. Using it with parents would be more hit and miss as some parents may be unfamiliar with twitter. #nt2t@gccedu
A5) Think both have a lot of value though I don't know that many parents are on Twitter. I share resources & tools w/ my Ss via Twitter - have feed embedded on homepage of my courses in Canvas linked to class hashtags. #nt2t
A5: I think it's important to use both! Teacher's need to establish a trusting relationship with parents and Twitter can be used to communicate with them. It's also fun to implement in the classroom since social media is everywhere. #nt2t#gccedu
A5: I would use it for both! Twitter can be a great tool to communicate with parents and show them what their children are doing, but it also can be a useful tech tool in the classroom! #gccedu#nt2t
A5 Twitter is probably more effective in the classroom with students because good luck if you can find parents on Twitter. They're more likely on Facebook. I don't have stats to back that up, just anecdotal from my experience. #NT2t
#nt2t A5 Good Idea, but currently I don´t use twitter for students or parents. We have other digital ways for communication. But I think I try it later.
Could let parents know class or school hashtag or handle. Parents could follow to see updates, pics, etc. A few Ts at my kids' schools are on Twitter & their schools have accts that I follow. Keep them in a list so I can follow easily. #nt2t
#NT2t A3: a mix of both. The big names always give new ideas, perspectives & information.
Like minded would help for friending & interacting regularly and sharing ideas, thoughts discussions on various topics especially T centric ones.
IMO it is more effective to have a whole school on Twitter versus one classroom. Then you can see events and happenings. Creating a stronger school culture #nt2t

One of the schools tends to RT what the (few) teachers on Twitter post. If many Ts were posting on Twitter, might get kind of crazy if only coming from school accnt, make harder for Ps to see their kids' Ts. #nt2t

A6: I would rather send someone a tweet unless it's personal. That way more people are able to see my tweet and respond to it and share their thoughts! #nt2t#gccedu
A6: I would rather send someone a tweet. That way others may be able to collaborate and help if I asked a question. Twitter is filled with talented people, so making more connections and getting more input would be great! #gccedu#nt2t
A5) I’d love teachers to do both. Great opportunity to teach digital citizenship in the classroom. And if you want parents on Twitter, you have to share on Twitter. You’ll get an audience beyond the parents, so why not? #nt2t
A6 A tweet vs. direct message depends on what you want to say. Do you want the whole world to see it forever? Then tweet it. If personal, send a direct message. Remember that even direct messages can be copied, pasted and tweeted. Written notes might be best. #NT2t
A6: I think a tweet or shout out is more fun to send so that it is public and others can see what you write, I don't think I would post anything too private on social media anyway. #nt2t
#NT2t A6: If I know the person well and long time & vice versa then DM is fine. Otherwise always better etiquette to tweet out to them first and ask if you can DAM them.
As a parent, I loved when our daughter’s pre-K and kindergarten teachers shared pictures every day. The K teacher even shared a “tweet from the kids.” It allowed us to visualize her day and know what to talk about (and had pictures to share) when she got home. #nt2t
Q7: I would rather like tweets so I can have an organized collection of everything I have liked over time. This way I can go through my likes for inspiration and encouragement #nt2t
A7: I would rather like tweets. It is easy to do as I scroll through twitter, and I can always go back and look through my likes! If I am worried about finding a tweet again, then I will save it or retweet it. #gccedu#nt2t
A7: Use both. I like tweets but don't save them if I want the person to know that I liked what they said. But I'll like it and save it if it's an idea or project or something that I want to keep for later. I would use Pinterest not email though #nt2t#gccedu
A7 Liking a tweet is really easy to show recognition and -- more importantly -- to keep it on file for later use. I've written blogs from likes that I've gone back to draw from later. #NT2t
That’s fantastic. I hadn’t thought of it being used on field trips. Then parents have some background to talk to their kids about their experience. #nt2t

My son's school live tweets @PeriscopeCo videos of their off-site study visits to institutions like once they went to learn about management from an @StarbucksIndia store and live casted it through periscope!

Sure. Thing is, just like teachers and students can be nudged into trying something new, so can parents. It’d be more effective to keep them on Twitter if it were a school-wide practice. It isn’t in our schools, so I can only look fondly at past years. Missed opportunity. #nt2t

A7: Seems that this workflow is not usual for everyone. But sometimes you need to work on some ideas mentioned in older Tweets - so you have to find them. Are there any other kinds of workflow to handle this problem? Heard about using Pinterest. #nt2t
A8: I think I would like to do both. I like to be very organized and have back ups. I do love making lists because it makes me feel like I have everything in order. #nt2t#gccedu
As I’ve said, the whole school needs to do it. Ideally the whole district. It needs to become ingrained to catch on. If a principal or superintendent is retweeting from your child’s classroom, more people will hear about it and think, maybe I ought to get on there! #nt2t

A8 I can't make sense out of my Gmail contacts, but creating lists and adding contact is a breeze once you've started. You also keep up with what they say by clicking on their photos or handles. #NT2t
A8: I would put them into my e-mail contacts, but also use a list to keep things organized. I also would like to have both in case one of them gets lost/will not load. It is always good to have a backup plan! #gccedu#nt2t
A8: think it’s a question of your personal workflow. Interesting are the reasons - interesting for others. So you work with your contact list. ;) #nt2t
a8 Organizing contacts on Twitter in lists is great for me personally (not for business), but it depends what you're using them for. Announcements are usually by email. If the people check their Twitter more than email, then use both. #nt2t
Challenge: Make a photo card with 3 of your favorite workflows on Twitter as a recommendation for new teachers to Twitter. Don’t forget to include #NT2T in your post.
I’d love if it weren’t such a guessing game year after year whether a teacher were on Twitter. They’re usually not. A school hashtag and active handle would help. #nt2t
